Anyway...

Seeing all this talk in the Romance thread about his age and the probability of going through his Calling would make his possible LI story a tragic one, I'm wondering if Avernus' research into manipulating the Taint (should you side with him back in Soldier's Keep) would come into play in DA:I? I also wonder if the fact that...

Spoiler

Of course, not without the iron price. It'd be too easy without consequence, and this IS Dragon Age after all.

for the answer to your spoiler, fiona was cured because she was a mage turned abomination and turning her back is what cured her of her taint

Dont mind so much if he is not cured. As long as he's not a ghoul at the end of my game. Or at least a sad, bittersweet heart-wrenching ending.

@Aimo. And what were the negative consequences for Fiona? I don't remember any. Of course, she is a very special case. Very very special.

IIRC, I don't think there was any, which makes her the special case. Also, the dagger Duncan stole from the First Enchanter had properties that slowed down the acceleration of the Taint in him throughout the book, though I can't remember what happened to it....I'll have to read The Calling again.

Now don't you make me sad now ;A;

This is reminding me too much of the fan art Dakkun39 made of Larius, pre-and post-ghoul ;A;

Imagine Blackwall's fine beard and locks withering away ;A;

And done, thanks Aimo :)

No probs!

Now it looks like as if every post you make is so scandalous it alarms him :D

we've discussed this, the beard is blackwall, the wardens body is just a mindless corpse for the beard to control.

So his glorious bread will find and infect a new host, hopefully a new warden. Akin to this:

There's no chin under the beard, only another fist as well

@aimo how about taking his final walk before his glorious beard withers away? :-p

Seriously I dont want to see him ghoul-like. Its better to climb his wall all the way to deep roads at the end of the game. Since we cant deny that he's been tainted for a long time and calling is inevitable. At least give him a good few years left. Otherwise I'll just grab on his beard and yank it so hard it in a desperate attempt to wrench away his taint.

Let's all just acknowledge that this has been said.

If he is an LI and the scope of the game results in his Calling by the end of it, I'd at *least* like the option of my Inquisitor going into the Deep Roads with him.  I rather they spend the final times together, and not leaving Blackwall to be alone in those waning hours that eventually come to claim him.  But I think that's more the romantic in me speaking -- and it's disgusting.  Ew.  Sentimentality, get away.

I can't vouch for Baldur's Gate, but in all Bioware games I played there never was "happily ever after" for protagonist and their LI (exсept Jade Empire, but it's not very popular). I suppose Inquisition will follow the suit.

I might just be a glutton for punishment, but I think a story arc ending with Blackwall as a ghoul would make for a wonderfully heartwrenching tale. You might have to end up doing a mercy kill as well. Oh I'm getting depressed just thinking about it, but I'm betting I'd lap it up if it happened in the game proper. I like a good sad side story in my fantasy adventures.

Well, if you take the games as standalone, and ignore any sequels, KOTOR had a pretty good happiky ever after for Bastilla or Carth. And Origins had relatively happy endings if you romanced Leliana or Zevran or married Alistair. Or if you went off with Sten to Par Vollen.

Here's a brief summary of my BW romantic history:

BG2: LI died (Viconia)
NWN: LI died (Aribeth)
KOTOR: Happy until the sequel came along)
JE: Happy together (Silk Fox)
DAO: Happy, eventually, maybe (Morrigan)/single (FWarden)
DA2: Ambiguous (Sebastian)
ME: I died (LIs vary considerably, but I hardly ever choose Destroy)

So yeah, I'm good with Blackwall going on his Calling. What I wouldn't like is a repeat of ME3 Thane where I got the feeling BW was really pushing death itself being ennobling and not being able to live without someone as the highest form of romance. The Calling is a tragedy, if one that must be accepted. I want his attitude to be "I must so this" not "I get to do this" and I want a romanced Inquisitor to live her life and not seek to join him.

There were actually a few in NWN2: MotB.  That game is one of my favorites of all time, all the endings were really cool imo.

That was made by Obsidian, not Bioware.
