Auto attack. One click one blow is just so tiring ![]()
Are you auto attack guy, or do you prefer one click - one blow ?

And if the combat pace is going to be as fast as how DA2 was, then button mashing will probably break my mouse.
Witcher 2 wasn't really a button mashing (1st one was, though) imo. For Witcher 2, simply spamming attack button won't really work and combat speed wasn't that ridiculously high like in DA2 or some other Online RPGs.
I think it'd be realistic and suits well for manual attack (one click = single swing) if the combat&movement speeds in DA:I are more or less same to Witcher 2's. That way, you actually have to care about blocking and dodging instead of just hack&slashing mindlessly.

Auto attack. It pisses me off that I have to follow the target with my mouse. DA2's 'R' was amazing...

Autoattack for mages (plus lower cooldowns and/or more skills) and button mashing for warriors/rogues (nice combos, much less skills and less teleporting mobs). I suppose it would be sweet if this autoattack was turned off/on.
I would have rolled rogue and kicked all of my companions out ;D

Playing the dragon age games on pc, I definitely prefer auto-attacks. I find Da:O combat a little slow and too easy getting close to the end. Instead i really love DA 2 combat, with auto attacks. Note that I always play on nightmare difficulty. I started DA 2 believing it would be straightforward like the first, and not caring too much about skill points and abilities (taking what looked cool), or party composition, cause in most games it's not really needed. But i was pleasantly surpriesd by the challenge the game posed and in some instances i had quite a few problems winning some battles, having bought not enough potions or having an horrible party composition. But I had fun, and to this day I feel more inspired to replay DA 2 for the third time than DA:O (again, third time) only because of the combat. Despite the fact that i consider Origins to be, overall, the "better" game. To me DA 2, with auto attacks, on nightmare difficulty, is a good mix of action and tactics. On my first playthrought I played a bit randomly, but on the second i built the characters well and tried to bring with me always a balanced party. I found out that playing with a more studied tactical approach I could do some very cool things and I was very effective. So I feel like the tactical aspect exists in DA 2 (at least on the high difficulties) and is maybe even more important and satisfying than DA: O simply because the greater difficulty of the game makes it more needed and compelling.
Just as a note, I didn't like the direction the combat was taking in the dlcs, especially with some bosss fights or the charging genlocks. Those felt way too actiony, tipping off the tactics-action balance. In my opinion.

Playing a rogue on the PC version of Dragon Age 2 was almost impossible for me... I'm left handed, and after playing WoW/swtor for so long... I got used to my hot keys. Mostly keyboard turning with a bit of mouse turning. It becomes a hindrance when I need to move AND attack at the same. But hey, I can move and strafe just fine, kthnx! The difference between those games, and DA2 is the auto attack feature
which definitely helps me move from target to target without having to worry about mashing another button. I have a razr naga now with 12 buttons, so I'm teaching myself how to fully mouse turn... maybe that'll help. And yeah, I'm an auto attacker! But I tend to use my moves when needed ![]()
All in all, I've played a mage so much... I'm damn sick of it.

I play on console so I'm good with either one. But I just don't want attack speeds that are as slow as DAO's.

When I play on PC I prefer auto-attack.
Either way, I'm terrible at combat.

Couldn't they put a "on/off" function for the auto attack?
Much as Bioware hates toggles, this one is already confirmed as being in the game - btw, AFAIK, for BOTH console & PC players.

Why not both?
But I think DA should be completely non-twitch, or at least as close to it as you can get with RTwP (there's still kiting).

I play on PC and the thought of button-mashing is sort of nightmarish. Damn mouse is kinda "going" as it is...
On console, though, I'd much prefer button-mashing. Toggling it on/off is a good compromise.

People like button mashing? All I've been hearing on this board for years is that this was one of the worst things about DA2
Thats because mashers are now the largest population left in these forums. Dirty peasants.

The "R" auto target was really convienient and helped speed some things up in DA:2. But no I do not like spam clicking/mashing a key to auto attack (Diablo style). Auto target/select is cool with me tho.
Side note: I hope DA:3 has "quick cast" toggle that lets you cast the spells without the pause for the range indicator to show up to speed things up a tiny bit. But that is probably at the very bottom of the toggle list.

It depends, if it's the "non-interactive turn based style of selecting and opponent then standing there and hitting each other" combat all the dragon ages have used then you might as well have them auto-attacking. I cannot for the life of me figure out why the do not have autoattack in Star Wars the Old Republic.
But from what I've seen of combat footage it looks a lot like the Witcher 2, where your clicks actually control your swings and you damage your opponents when your weapon connects. So yes I prefer so called "action combat" and one click - one blow. But if the combat comes down to "highlight and hotkey" then it's bloody pointless

I played DA2 before DAO, so I got used to the button mashing. Didn't know you could change it in settings.
Then when I played DAO I just couldn't get into the new, or I guess old, battle system. I stopped playing it after like 5 hours.
I decided to try it again like 6 months later and forced myself to play through those first few hours, and I just fell in love with it and got used to the battles.
So I guess now I'm an auto attack person.

And yet PCs are way overrepresented in the "what system will you play DAI on" thread.

Auto attack for me, though I found myself spamming the R key a lot in DA2 to move onto the next target anyway.
