"They're popping out of those!" Mira practically spit, when she saw the lingerie models on Jess' datapad and what they were wearing.
"What do you mean?" Iole asked. "I'm sure the Captain's cuffs were meant for practical use. We've got plenty in the armory which are alloy, if you want to carry those instead of zip ties."
Jenus really didn't have a good view of what was on the datapad across the table, but she could see Mira and she really wanted to see what was on the datapad. Very badly.
Mira couldn't speak for a moment. She waved her hand in the air, as if to disgregard her concern. Or possibly to fan herself.

Naleena noticed the shade of purple Mira had turned. "*Ahem*... cuffs are... a good idea, but they can make some extra noise especially when we're carrying multiple sets. And the Moby Dick reference, the lesson there is that Ishmael was the only survivor. Captain Ahab led the crew to their deaths and his. That is not what I want to accomplish. Didn't think I knew that, did you, Jess? So, Jenus, whilst I appreciate your enthusiasm, let's come up with a decent plan.
"So far the the teams are:
"Negotiator: Jess
"Demolitions: Frank, Avan.
"Infiltration team: Williams, Essul, Eteon, and Me.
"Assault team: Irina, Team Boom, Dahlia, and Anika
"Anika, sorry you'll need....:
Mira interrupted. "Excuse me, Ma'am. Are we hereafter going to be referred to as 'Team Boom?' Or will blowing up the train never be forgotten, Ma'am?"
"The train?" Iole interrupted, "The train was nothing. It's Jenus' fault. How about when she blew up the Nova Dawn building?"
Jenus blushed.
"I rest my case, Mira," Naleena said, then turned her attention back to Anika on the communicator. "Anika, you'll have to wear something other than white. How about some urban camo? Did I forget anyone?"
"Why am I on assault and not infiltration?" Dahlia asked.
"Everyone on infiltration has a tactical cloak," Naleena said, "You do not. Besides, I've seen you in action. You'll do fine."
Dahlia nodded.
Naleena continued. "The basic plan is for the infiltration team to enter the area, and neutralize any tangos we see. The assault team will follow and secure the area so that the slower moving demolitions team can enter."
Irina raised her hand. "Why don't we enter using the utility tunnel entrances inside the dome? Are those the only ones, VERA?"
VERA pulled up the map again. "No, there are others much closer to the bombsites, but they are exposed. I highlighted these particular access points because of their proximity to the bombsites, and their locations in alleys. Logically, these access points also have the lowest probability of being known to the terrorists, however you could run into terrorists inside the utility tunnels themselves."
"Well, that answers that question," Naleena said. "So do we work our way from the back to the front, or front to back?"

Jess sighed as she brought up a schematic of the Medusa and tapped a comm hookup.
"Hear that Anika? Your up. Sorry luv, looks like Morgan's going to have to babysit the Medusa".
"Uh..... Cap'n? He's..... kinda in a hospital bed right now and these people who keep coming aboard are kinda...... well.... unreliable. They say the ship's not safe to fly".
"Shows what they know. How old are they"?
"Young. Like fresh out of engineering school young".
"Find a salty dog and see if he remember's how real engineer's work when it wasn't all swap in, swap out component's. Don't worry about Morgan I expect we'll have our secret weapon coming aboard soon".
"Secret weapon"?
"You'll see who I mean. Meanwhile come aboard and break into a camo kit. That armor's the only one aboard that'll fit you so you'll need to wrap it in camo bands".
"Aye aye Cap'n".
Jess shut down the link and leaned back leaving the tech schematics on screen.

Jenus finally got a glimpse of Jess' datapad and saw nothing but the schematics of the Medusa. She leaned back in her chair, perplexed.

Naleena looked a bit puzzled. "Something has been bothering me since the meeting started. Everyone is here except for Anika, and I knew she would be aboard the Medusa, but listening via com system. Yet, there is an empty chair next to Frank. Would someone care to explain that?"

Jess looked over and shrugged. "Did we pickup someone else on way? I've been too busy to notice..... And their not getting their pastries for tardiness"! Jess reached over and began sliding the pastry away from where it sat in front of the empty chair.

Essul glanced to the empty chair, and then to frank, raising a brow in curiosity. Looking to jess as she got the pasteries, "I don't believe we have...have we?" he asked looking to naleena.

"Yeah, what was that all about, commando?" Frank frowned at Iole from under his helmet.
Way to f***ing go.

Iole had been trying to figure out how to back up Frank, when he inevitably tried to explain his imaginary friend.
But Frank totally threw her under the bus.
Iole's found her mouth wide open and snapped it shut.
Then her golden eyes burned like twin suns as they glared at Frank.

After a brief moment of silence, Frank spoke up. "I'm sure it was just an honest mistake. Anika's absence threw us off, is all." He shrugged. "There are more important things to worry about right now." Frank looked to Naleena. "Wouldn't you agree, boss?"

"I agree we have very important things to worry about, and that's why I'm asking. From the looks being exchanged and the awkward pause, there seems to be more going on. We just came off a very stressful mission, and we're heading into a powder barrel," Naleena said, trying to use an Earth saying, "Now I'm even more curious."

"Alright, fine." Frank threw up his hands. "Since retaking the Medusa, I..." He paused. "Well...It was my first actual combat experience. I'm just trying to wrap my head around what happened, is all."
He shifted in his seat.
"Look, it's nothing that's going to affect my performance on this mission."

"Uh, demolition guys can be a little twitchy. I've seen this before," Irina said.
"Yeah, I remember it, too," Williams said, "Remember that guy on Elysium?"
"That's the guy I'm talking about."
"He had an imaginary friend. He'd talk to him while he was diffusing sh*t. Did amazing work, too. The I.F. even had a name," Williams said.
"They gave the bloke a Section 8 a year later," Irina said and then a saddened look appeared on her face. "Really too bad. The guy was really funny to listen to, and it never did interfere with his work."
In a saddened tone Williams continued. "Yeah, I know. That new CO had a stick up his ass and wouldn't cut the guy any slack."
Then Irina interrupted. "Just have him see the ship's counselor. He'll be alright. Don't forget to make two appointments, though."
Naleena raised a brow. "Two appointments?"
"Yeah, one for the I.F." Irina said.
Naleena turned to Frank. "It's not that bad, yet. Tell me it's not that bad."

"Jesus Christ..." Frank muttered, while holding a hand over his visor. "A few hallucinations hardly qualifies as having an imaginary friend."

Jess took a bite of the pastry. "You want hallucinations"? She said between mouthfuls. "You should try PinkShroom. Caught the Navigator once who swore she could float noise and smell colors.....". She swallowed the last of it and licked her finger's. "That was after she claimed Albert Einstein made her plot a course into Geth space and pumped out a long range comm call with a looped version of Sinatra's 'Final Curtain'.

Tallis had never tried coffee. She had heard it was all the rage from Earth. So she picked up the steaming beverage in front of her and took a sip.
Then she gulped it down like it was a soft drink on a hot summer's day.
The coffee burned Tallis' tongue. She didn't care and quickly poured herself another cup.

"Thanks for the heads up, Jess." Frank's eyes focused on Tallis, as she took hold of a cup of coffee. "I'll be sure to pick some up as soon as I can."
Uh-oh.
"Don't!" It was too late. He cringed, as Tallis guzzled the coffee.
How'd that fee-- oh my god, she's doing it again!
"Really, guys? We're just gonna let that that one go?" He gestured at the asari with an upturned palm, while standing up."And you're worried about me?" Frank moved to prevent Tallis from punishing her esophagus any further.

Jess looked over towards Tallis. "I guess it's true what they say. Asari Commando's probably can chew nails and spit bullet's If the ship's coffee can't stop her". Looking over at Mira she inclined her head towards Tallis. "I guess commando training's enough to make anyone who braves through it a little masochistic to one degree or another".

Essul rested his forehead between his hands, staring to the table as he kept his mouth shut. This was the team that would be engaging terrorists in a hostage situation. If he hadn't seen their skills in the field for himself, he might have begun to question his own sanity.

Frank couldn't help but chuckle at Jess and Dahlia's exchange.
I can't tell if she's joking...
"Slow it down a bit, commando." He smiled, setting Tallis' coffee aside. "Moderation, moderation."
Essul rested his head in his hands.
Yeah, I know how you feel, buddy.
Frank pulled off his helmet, and looked around at the team.
I can't believe I've managed to survive this long.

Tallis followed the cup of coffee as Frank removed it from her hands, watching it longingly as it was set aside. When it was out of reach, she looked back to Frank and wiped her mouth with her sleeve.
Mira wondered why the fingers on her right hand were hurting so much. She peered down and realized since Jess made her last comment, she had been white knuckle gripping the edge of the table.
Iole, still glaring at Frank, got up, moved across the room to the empty chair beside him, and stood in front of it. Then she threw herself back, hard, to sit in the chair.
And Jenus appeared to have her fingers walking across the table while Jess was distracted with Dahlia to try and snatch the captain's datapad.

VERA finally spoke up. "Since no one is willing to formulate the plan, I would suggest the team use the utility tunnel and disarm the bomb on the northwest support column first, then re-enter the utility tunnel, and move to the southwest support column and disarm that one. From there, the team should move anti-clockwise through the potential bombsites. Be advised that they will know you are there. It will be up to you, Jess, to keep them distracted and talking." VERA said while she paced around her office, "And do not inform the team if the terrorists execute a hostage."
"VERA! How can you be so callous?" Dahlia asked.
"Callous? While I have studied organic psychology so that I may better understand organics, I do not possess the emotional responses of an organic. The death of organics do not produce an optimal result, and thus it is not a preferred outcome. I do not like it. You may have heard me say that. 'Like' is shorthand for preferred outcome. When something is not a preferred outcome I must make adjustments, and that is not optimal use of my processes. But it is easily overcome.
"However, with organics, the reaction to unpleasant news causes the release of certain chemicals that can impede ones actions and increase the chances of error." VERA said, stopped took a deep drag off her cigarette, and sipped her coffee.
Another moment of awkward silence passed. Naleena finally spoke. "Okay then, that seems like as good a plan as any. I want everyone on the ready-line in the shuttle bay in 30 minutes. Essul, I need to speak with you in private."
The team filed out of the room, and Essul remained behind. He knew what this was about. Asari mind invasion, here we come.
Naleena looked over at Essul with caution. "Essul, VERA intercepted an outgoing message on Hegemony channels with weak encryption. I want to hear it from you. I advise that you come clean."
