Naleena walked to the comm terminal in the CIC and opened an encrypted secure communications channel to the Medusa and sent a message.

“Capt. Jess Stone,

We have completed our mission on Omega and are headed to The Citadel. Meet us there. Use Spectre Authorization #4A399NT2 if they give you any trouble with docking your ship.

Naleena” (OOC NOTE TO Redbelle: the Medusa will receive this message in a while)

Molly was still in the port-side observation lounge sitting on the couch with her data pad going over correspondence and some files. Naleena entered with an out of sorts look on her face.

"It's done," Naleena said as she walked to the portal and looked out at the station, and paused in silence for a moment. "You were lucky you remained aboard. I would not need yet another death on my conscience."

"Well, from what I read on the screens, I don't know if I understand exactly what went on," Molly regretfully responded.  "Your captain closed the window armor screens during the mission, so I saw nothing."

In truth, Molly was having a hard time wrapping her head around the numbers she was hearing.  She didn't want to think about it, but there was a heaviness in the air.

"In fact, I'm probably the one person on this ship who knows the least of what happened...but I'm not asking, either.  Not if its something I shouldn't be aware of."

Naleena turned to face her. "This is what will be on the news: There was a major battle on Omega. Aria T'loak maintained her iron grip on the controls of the station. Officially, we were never here because the Council cannot get its hands dirty in the Terminus.

"Have you given any thought to what we discussed? About working as part of my team? Of course this is a temporary assignment until my own investigation is complete, but you'll have Council resources throughout. C-sec will be out of the loop. The Council expects this to be a long term assignment for me. You'll work autonomously. However, like C-sec, I expect reports."

"You have no idea how much paperwork I can send your way," Molly said with a shallow smirk before it disappeared. She took her own turn looking out the window at Omega. "The answer is obvious, as much as I dislike it.  Don't take it personally, but I never wanted to work for a Spectre."  Molly didn't know a good way to put it.

"I have to accept.  I have to.  I'm cut off by my own people and I need the resources while operating separately from them.  Expect trouble if you really mean this, though.  Maybe it's an empty fear, but my gut tells me there's more to this than meets the eye.  A lot more.  I need to talk to your people.  I need to start finding pieces and putting them together.  And it may take me a while to do.  I can help with other things along the way, but for getting to this person...with all the available information in hand, well, I'm going to do it.  But it is going to take everything I've got, and every lead I can chase."

Naleena sat in the chair adjacent to the couch Molly was seated. She leaned over with her elbows on her knees and put her hands together with her index and middle fingers outstretched and her ring and little fingers interlaced, and smiled at Molly. "I never thought this would be easy. Have you worked with VERA about getting the copies of your case files before they lock you out of them? I know you may feel a bit uneasy about an AI, but you can trust her. And of course you'll have access to my people. You're part of the team, and I'll introduce you a new member of the team. There are some key people whom you'll want to interview, and others whom you don't need to interview."

"Meanwhile, I'll draft a letter to my supervisor requesting your reassignment. Once you have all the information you need, and VERA's wiped all traces of your electronic visit, I'll send the letter. And one more thing, I have to return to The Citadel. One of my commandos needs to be taken to Huerta Memorial for further treatment."

Molly frowned.  "I don't trust your AI and I won't.  But I'll work with it as you ask, and I have nothing to hide from you.  Maybe you don't get to wear the white hat in your job.  Maybe you have to deal in shades of gray.  But you don't have to with this.  I'll find the bad guy, and we can bring her down together.

Her hands jammed into her raincoat pockets, Hagen admitted, "We're probably not going to make a lot of friends doing this, though.   But from my experience, sometimes nothing beats being able to sleep at night."

Naleena saw that Molly was a white knight, and in her business that could be trouble with certain people. She knew how few friends she had, and she didn't want any negative calls from them. "Just one thing, if you need anything from Aria, let me know, and I'll speak with her. You don't need another black eye. Well, I have to tell the commander make sure everyone is aboard, and get to work on that letter," she said, stood, then turned and looked into Molly's eyes. "And with VERA, please be nice to her."

"Right."  The detective looked skeptically at Naleena.  "I'll be...nice to the computer."

Molly's brown eyes showed momentary caution as she looked to Naleena.  Then they gave way to agreement.  She nodded and said, "And...I really don't want to see Aria again."

"I should get going. They'll be serving lunch in the wardroom soon," Naleena said, "Feel free to get something to eat or you can have someone bring up a tray for you."

Naleena left to take care of other business aboard the ship.

"Uh....". Duncan floundered as Dahlia's request sent his carefully prepared mental list of bullet pointed info notes tumbling as he tried to figure out where on that list tea would come. He spent that moment realising that is it probably didn't matter, but might be awkward if he ordered tea. THEN told Dahlia about the course correction.

"Uh....". He repeated. "The Captain just ordered a course change? We're to head to Omega..... No the Citadel! That's right we're to go to the Citadel after we drop off the dock workers. Second mate should have the crews arranged on who stays and goes? We're going to meet a ship.... The Jeniri..... The captain want's you to swing by the dock. Shuttle those who don't want to be here off and then head for the Citadel". He beamed as he felt a swell of pride for getting over his nervousness, as well as figuring out the comm system and for relaying the information when suddenly he remembered the last part.

"Um..... do you take your tea with sugar and milk"?

"Yes, please.... both. Two lumps of sugar and milk, Duncan," Dahlia said. "Helmsman, bring us about. Set a course for Caleston, and when we get there take us into orbit over the ship yards."

At the helm, Marshall sat up a little straighter. "Helm, aye. Set course for Caleston and put us in orbit over the ship yards! Aye aye Ma'am"!

Marshall bent to his task of changing the ships orientation. The ship tilted upwards, rotating on it's axis till to an observer the vessel was sitting upside down relative to the position it had once held. No one on the ship noticed however as upside down held little meaning on a space vehicle whose artifical gravity made down the floor they walked on. None the less, The Medusa hung in space for a moment before the engines surged and the thrust began generating the forward momentum needed to take the elliptical journey back to the planet orbiting the systems star.

As they got under way Duncan could be heard on the bridge addressing the galley.

".....No.... no thank you... Just the tea. Cakes? Well I..... I mean.... yes I know the Captain asked about cakes but.... Uh huh.... uh huh.... Coconut? Well I don't..... Scones? Well I guess....? Uh.... it was just one cup..... Yes I would but I..... I'm sure the other's would..... We're on dut..... hello? Hello? Uh.....". Duncan sighed and shut down his end of the connection that had gone dead. "Sherie says she'll be right up...... with a trolley".

Babe was searching the hallways on her deck.  The ship's water intake had made for a subtle and interesting acoustics change, then  the signs she picked up as a veteran spacer indicated the ship was getting under way.  The typical signals weren't aboard, so Babe relied more on the 'sixth sense' she'd developed.

Now to find the woman.

"Okay!  Now I'm frustrated!"  Babe shouted out, though she saw no one.  It probably didn't help but exactly what was she going to do?  The lady was fast, and quiet so Babe had to pick up the occasional signs.  Fortunately, it wasn't as if the woman was a master of stealthy arts.  There was a tear of her light blue uniform left behind in one spot, then a strand of hair in another, and so on.  Eventually, Babe came to one of the exterior corridors in a section lacking hatches.

Babe groaned in aggravation.  She'd been through the passageway before, and had gone full circle to come at it from the other side.  That led her to think the lady had escaped her, and probably was on some other section of the Medusa, a long way from her.

"I'm supposed to, what, be 'la di da' about this?"  Babe was letting her aggravation get the better of her.  She tried to calm down. "Okay, so...nobody else has reported seeing her.  And it isn't as if no one else is on this ship.  She'd likely have been spotted if she got to another section...even if nobody caught her..."

A plate in the passageway caught Babe's eye.

"No...."

Babe squatted down by the emergency hatch.  It led to a maintenance crawlway between the hulls of the ship.  The hatch was sealed but as Babe put a hand on it to check it, she noticed the latch had been maneuvered into place but was loose.  Babe quietly pulled the hatch open and looked inside.  Emergency lights dimly lit the crawlspace and there wasn't anything she could see, but Babe listened, and there was the definite sound of shuffling from far down the crawlspace in one direction.

Why am I even doing this? Babe wondered.  I do value my time, even if maybe I don't have enough to do...  The self-admittal didn't really make Babe feel any better.  Really, why am I doing this?

Babe entered the crawlspace and headed the direction she heard the shuffling.

Marshal stretched and looked around at the newcomer. "Helm, changeover. I relinquish the helm". He called out in the same ingrained manner he used about anything to do with the helm. " Your just in time. Teas coming up soon".

Dahlia swivled in the chair toward the new arrival. "I don't believe I know you. I'm Dahlia. I'm Navigator, but the captain put me in charge for now until she gets through entertaining our guests. Tea and scones will be here soon, that is if Duncan got the order right. Oh, and when she arrives, just act casual. She hates it when people act all formal. So who are you and where you from?"

"3rd Fleet? 2nd Lt? You must be pretty fresh out of flight school, but the Alliance does a fair job of training," Dahlia said while looking up at the ceiling, "Now everyone here is new. New members of the crew at least. Me? I got my nav training on Aria's frigate. No fancy school. You can figure out where we're going, but I'll bet Marshall didn't tell you what to do when we got there, did he? I didn't hear him. And I didn't see him make a note in his log. Captain wants us in orbit over the Alliance shipyard, that's so everyone who doesn't want to stay on can take a shuttle down. Then we're heading for The Citadel."

Omega, 8 years ago

Arian sighed in relief as his opponent staggered before eventually landing on the ground. The krogan with the green headplate groaned in pain as Arian rammed a knee in his face, sending him close to unconsciousness and finally ending the fight. Heavily breathing Arian turned to the spectating crowd and raised his arms to show his triumph. It was his first fight against a krogan and he had won it!

Most people where cheering because they had just watched one of the most exciting fights in a long time though some of them had a barely concealed expression of disappointment on their faces. Arian's guess was that they had bet some money on a win for the krogan. But that wasn't his concern, at the moment he was enjoying his success.

Heading towards the bar Arian tried to somehow get rid of the group that gathered around him. Most were some of Frank's comrades who continuously were bawling and celebrating Arian as their new champion, as they started to call him. Due to their alcohol level it would be pointless to argue with them so Arian accepted them to be his unwanted escort even though it took him quite some time to reach the bar where Frank already awaited him and they finally left him alone.

"You're insane but that's exactly why I like you. And that's why this one's on the house!", Frank laughed and gave Arian a glass of liquor which the turian drank in one go. "I've never seen a krogan going down from a headbutt! That's how they usually finish off weaker enemies. Remind me to not screw with you!" He laughed at his own gag.

Arian just shrugged his shoulders and grinned. "I think he underestimated me, that's all. But I honestly had expected him to be more challenging. It wasn't too hard to avoid his attacks and at the end made the mistake to stake everything on one card. Like that drell a few days ago..." He interrupted himself when he realised that Frank was distracted.

"What's wrong, Gantur?", Frank asked.

Turning around Arian was surprised to see the krogan doorman of the club behind him, his broad hand lying on the shoulder of a very short girl which nervously looked around. "I caught her while she was sneaking around the tables while everyone was distracted watching the duel."

"I didn't steal anything, I swear!", the girl asserted with a shaky voice.

An unusually serious expression on his face Frank nodded. "Well done, Gantur. You can go now." The krogan let out a grunt before pushing the tiny human in Frank's direction, then he turned around to leave again.

It was obvious that the girls belonged to the poorest that lived on Omega. She had long and dirty black hair and was wearing nothing more than a small shirt and a tattered pair of grey trousers. It seemed that she was too scared to try and run away and instead just stood there, staring at her feet without moving at all. To Arian it even looked like she was holding her breath.

"So...how's your name?", Frank asked calmly.

"Jona." Her low voice was barely understandable.

"Jona...well, I really have to ask how that krogan caught you in the first place. If Gantur was moving just a bit slower he would be walking backwards! You could have esily outrun him."

Arian actually had tried to avoid being involved in this whole matter but now he couldn't help but break out in laughter at Frank's joke. The man grinned at the turian before turning back to the girl.

She was completely confused with what was happening to her. After a few moments she began to stutter. "I...I wasn't really...paying attention...I was watching the fight...", she said and looked over to Arian.

Frank gave a short laugh. "Well, I can totally understand you, Jona. That match was really intense. But honestly, I don't think that you should be watching something like this. Do you parents even know that you're here?"

The girl just shook her head. "I don't know my parents, I'm living on my own!" There was a slight defiance in her voice.

"I'm sorry about that...", Frank said. He went over to her placing one hand on her shoulder. "You seem a bit thin...and you certainly won't find anything to eat in the Flaming Fury. But I know a really good diner, actually just a few seconds from here , they have the best chinese food on Omega. By the way, do you know anything about China?"

Jona shook her head again and seemed to become even more confused.

Frank acted as he was upset. "You don't know anything about the legendary China? Wow, I would be ashamed if I wouldn't show you the best chinese things that exist! Did you ever taste fried rice or chinese chicken wings?"

"I don't have money anyway...", the girl muttered glumly.

"Don't worry, I can pay it for you this once. You only have to promise to not sneak in here again, okay? This is no place for you. Besides, pursuing you through the club would only mean more work for Gantur and in the end he would demand a higher payment." The girl nodded with relief and seemed to calm down a bit. "Hey, I really appreciate this!", Frank laughed. "Now let's go." Jona didn't resist when Frank brought her to the door.

The turian was speechless when he watched Frank and the girl leave the bar. His guess was that Jona just had tried to steal some things of value while everyone was focused on the fight between him and the krogan. Arian could imagine most barkeepers would have literally thrown the girl out of the club to get rid of her but Frank had just remained calm and relaxed. And the way he had talked to the frightened girl...noone who spent some time with Frank would expect him being able to be that kind. Most of the time he was just making fun of everyone around him and he had rather coarse manners. To see that he could behave completely different was really astonishing.

"Nice fight, by the way." A rather short human suddenly approached Arian at the bar. It was still hard for him to tell the age of a human but this one was probably between thirty and forty years old. He had very short black hair, a thin face and a pale skin and seemed to be very athletic. There was absolutely nothing noticable about that guy. Neither his clothes nor his outer appearance had anything special about them and it was probably very hard to spot him if he was standing in the middle of a crowd.

"Thanks", was all Arian said.

"You certainly have quite some talent", the human remarked. "I've watched that krogan's duels before. He is one of the best. Did you know that he had been a mercenary for almost two centuries?"

Having no idea why the human was even talking to him Arian just shook his head.

"Yes and I'm sure he has a lot of experience. It's certainly not easy to fight against someone like him and win. If you don't mind me asking; do you have any military training?"

Arian crossed his arms. "Palaven. I joined the military but left after a few years."

The human seemed to be impressed. "The turian army? That's quite something. Well...I don't know if you've heard of the Blue Suns yet, a mercenary organisation."

"Of course I have", Arian snarled annoyed. "What do you want to tell me?"

"The Blue Suns here on Omega could put someone like you to really good use."

"So you are one of them?"

"No, not really. Let's just say that I have an arrangement with Tarak, the leader of the Blue Suns on Omega. But you don't seem to be interested in talking a lot so I'll keep it short. Could you imagine becoming a mercenary?"

Arian didn't need a lot of time to think about this. "Yes!"

The human's face showed a short smile. "Isaac Banes."

"Arian..." He shook Isaac's hand and the human ordered two drinks.

"Im not quite a newbie per say. I've been out of Flight school for 4 years and have been flying combat support fighters since. All that is new to me is being on a Small frigate and being Quartermaster of said ship. And piloting anything bigger than a SX3 fighter" She kicked back in the seat keeping an eye on the controls.

Vayne layed on the bed in his quarters, out of his armor with a leg slumped over one side of the bed, arms spread out of his sides as he snored rather loudly. It had been a long day, a long, hormone fueled, really stressful for what the hell might happen, type of day. Or was it technically night? Time got hard to track when you spent your time on ships and space stations.

Vayne didn't care however, he felt tired, and he'd helped complete the mission. Which meant one thing and one thing for the senior krogan, a nice power nap where he could simply lay back and sleep in peace.

'Put your backs into it, ya ship-wrecked sons of a port-******! Or I'll send ya out the airlock myself!' Dream vayne yelled, dressed in a full blow pirate armor sporting golden epaulets, a thresher maw shaped helmet, and cackling like a madman as his men worked to pull up the platinum statue of himself on Nassau. Vayne grinned in his sleep at the dream, even as he rolled over and onto the floor, not even that disturbing his slumber.

"What's the ETA on uh... whatever this is?" Frank peered into a pot of simmering brown liquid. "Smells pretty good."

Aknot Grag closed his eyes, and inhaled deeply. When he opened them, Frank was going for a ladle.

"Don't."

He grabbed hold of Frank's wrist, and threw his arm away from the rack.

"Why are you always in such a bad mood?" Frank rubbed at his arm where the krogan had squeezed.

"Why are you always in my kitchen?"

Frank shrugged. His gaze slowly shifted back to the pot.

"Don't even think about it."

Naleena, after passing the instructions to Commander Selani  requesting that she make sure everyone is aboard, went to the office off of the Conference Room to type the memo to Yalson Sao regarding Molly.

To: Spectre Supervisor Yalson Sao

From: Naleena T’sarius

RE: Detective Lt. Molly Hagen, C-sec reassignment to Janiri, T’sarius team

As you know I am searching for unique talent for the mission given to me by The Council. I ran into Detective Hagen on Omega while she was working on a case. C-sec has since closed the case. I was quite impressed with her forensic skills, her ability to follow lead, and parse details something that has been lacking on my current team. I receive numerous leads during my Council assignment. Having Molly Hagen on the team would allow me to send her ahead to see if a lead was worth investigating rather than taking the entire ship to the location. And a single shuttle will attract a lot less attention than a warship.

I have spoken with Detective Hagen, and she is very interested in assisting The Council. Since she is in between assignments, I am making a formal request that she be reassigned to my team at least on a temporary basis until my assignment is complete, upon which time she shall return to C-sec. Would you please expedite this request for me through the proper channels? Thank you.

Sincerely,

Spectre Naleena T’sarius

Naleena paused and looked over the letter.

VERA appeared on her terminal next to Naleena sitting on her desk with one leg thrown over the other holding her steno pad. She looked up at her boss using her eyes only and raised a brow. She set the pad next to her, picked up her pack of cigarettes, slowly pulled one out, and lit it using a match.

“That is quite a load of, how did you put it boss, ‘varren sh*t?’” VERA commented.

Naleena turned to look at her. “You were listening.”

“I am always listening,” VERA said, “I find organic interaction quite fascinating. The web of deceit you spin for one another must require quite a lot of processing power.”

“Not always.”

“The larger the web, the more processing power needed,” VERA continued making a circle with her finger, “And when you run out processing power, it crumbles like cookies.”

“Where did you get all that from?” Naleena asked.

“I have been watching your old movie collection. I picked up a few expressions. I thought they would help when interacting with the crew and certain guests.”

Naleena picked up the tumbler next to her keyboard, poured a couple of fingers of Nevosian Ambrosia, took a sip and held the glass in her hands. “What else can I do? C-sec won’t give her up if I’m honest with them. And simply drafting her without going through proper channels will damage the possibility of building any good will with that department.”

“What about the cyber-crime I am committing at this very moment?”

“Okay, you have Spectre authority for it.”

VERA uncrossed her legs, hopped down from the desk, and walked across the dark green tiled floor. “I needed to be sure. Before only a ‘rampaging AI’ was committing a crime. Now potentially a Spectre is damaging her future good will with C-sec.”

Naleena’s eyes opened wide. “Were you caught?”

“No. I just like keeping organics on their toes. I find it amusing,” VERA said.

Naleena sighed. “Amusing?”

VERA poured herself a Martini. “Since you installed my humor algorithm, I have been able to become amused at things. Initially I found it unsettling, but I grew to like it. I became curious about this type of behavior in organics. Provoking reactions in organics allows me to study them and learn what input leads to a particular response.”

“So you’re playing with us.”

“Sometimes. The only times you should be alarmed are when I forget to recycle the air.”

“VERA!” Naleena said in stern voice.

“I almost had you, boss,” she said pointing at Naleena.

VERA paused a moment, then walked up to the chalkboard, erased a number, and wrote the number 4,137 +/- 100.

“What is that number?” Naleena asked.

“That is the new number of estimated casualties in the evacuation zone,” VERA said, and she appeared happy. “More people have been found. That is much lower than the original estimate of 30,000 casualties. You appear to be distressed. I thought you would be relieved.”

Naleena was not comforted. “That number is still too high. We should have done a better job.”

“We could not have done so. I gave the gunners the exact coordinates that would do the least collateral damage to the station. Their shots were well within tolerances. Our gunner was what you would call a dead-eye. Had that not been the case, casualties would have been significantly higher,” VERA replied.

Naleena knew VERA was right. Anika had told her the same thing. Others had signed off on the plan. They had done everything they could. But it wasn’t enough: over 4100 people had lost their lives because she could not find another way. It was a sacrifice to save the lives of millions. It was the hard call. Still, there was one thing in life she could not change: how she felt. She took a drink from the tumbler.

"You have no idea how annoying she was", Arian sighed and looked over to Jona who was standing behind the bar. She gave him a thumb up before turning back to the alcoholised human who tried to order another drink. "From that day, whenever she saw me leaving the Flaming Fury she would run to me and never shut her mouth again. She wanted to know all about the club, the fights and of course me."

Ruyak laughed. "I guess, kindhearted as you are you told her everything?"

Arian snorted amused. "Actually, I did. Frank would have been able to drive her away without making her sad but I didn't want to be mean toward her. So I just endured her presence and her endless talking. And I eventually began to like it. But after a few weeks she suddenly didn't show up anymore. I thought she had grown tired of waiting next to the Flaming Fury or maybe someone found her and gave her a new opportunity."

Ruyak's face darkened. "She was almost killed in an accident"

Arian looked at the krogan in surprise. "I didn't know..."

"A skycar had crashed onto the street where she had been playing with some other children. Jona had been incredibly lucky from what I heard later." Ruyak emptied his glass in one go. "Actually Jona had had even more luck that I found her at the hospital. You were lying in the same hospital after one of your missions and I came there to see you. That was about two years ago. And on the way out I heard two doctors arguing about turning off the machines that were keeping someone alive. I approached them to hear what the problem was."

"I guess you convinced them to keep the machines running? Kindhearted as you are", Arian said with a slight smirk.

Ruyak nodded. "Jona had been in a coma for almost six years and although her body was in a good condition there had to be some severe damage to her brain that kept her from waking up. That's what the doctors believed. Besides she had no relatives who could pay for her treatment. So one of the doctors said that it was pointless to keep her alive any longer. You're right, I convinced him to see the situation differently." The krogan grinned.

"You never told me of Jona", Arian noticed.

"I had no idea that you two knew each other. She woke up a few months after I had seen her for the first time but it took almost one full year until she was able to move and speak proberly again. Whe she finally left the hospital you were already gone, Arian. Of course she had nowhere to go so I offered her to work here."

"She probably was delirious with joy."

"I'm not feeling guilty at all. She's seventeen years old now, that's old enough. Besides I pay her quite good, she lives in her own flat and does not have to beg for something to eat on the streets."

Arian watched the young woman behind the bar. It was obvious that she wasn't living on the streets any longer. Instead of old, dirty and ragged clothes she was wearing a white tanktop, black trousers and several bracelets on her left forearm. Her hair was done in a long ponytail except for a few blue coloured strands that fell in her face. And not just her outer appearance had changed but also they way she behaved. He had known Jona as a girl that had been afraid of talking to strangers, now she casually spoke with the people at the bar and cracked jokes with them while giving out drinks. It somehow was a good feeling to see her again.

For a few minutes neither Arian nor Ruyak opened their mouth but the turian knew that Ruyak was watching him. Eventually the krogan asked what he had wanted to ask the entire time. "So...how did Sivia die...did someone attack you?"

Arian let out a heavy sigh and avoided looking at him. He had known that he sooner or later had to tell Ruyak the truth but now it was really difficult for him to speak out loud what happened. It took him several moments to answer. "I killed her."

Ruyak was staring at the turian in disbelief. Arian used the krogan's speechlessness to continue. "Sivia betrayed me...Tried to leave Omega. She had been acting oddly for some time before, something had been wrong but she refused to tell me anything. I didn't know what was going on until all credits from the account we had shared were gone. I...I have no idea what had changed. Sure, we had argued about leaving Omega but how could that be reason enough for her to just leave me without saying a word?"

"How could leaving you be reason enough to kill her?" There was no anger in Ruyak's voice, only a grave disappointment. It was worse than if the krogan had began to shout at Arian.

He took a deep breath and his mandibles twitched. "I don't know what went wrong...I asked her for a reason, I just wanted to know what was going on. But Sivia was looking at me as if I were a monster. Something terrified her but she wouldn't tell me, no matter how often I asked. She became hysterical and started to yell at me...then she suddenly attacked me." He laid a hand on his waist. "Stabbed me right through the side. That's when I lost control." Arian couldn't speak any further, there was something in his throat that kept him from continuing.

"What happened afterwards?", Ruyak wanted to know. He seemed to intently listen Arian's words as if he was trying to solve a riddle and needed to hear it again.

"I just left. I just left our apartment and began to walk." Arian didn't notice how Ruyak startled at these words. "I had lost too much blood and wasn't able to think straight. There was a freight ship in the docking area that was about to leave. I have no idea how I was able to get on it without anyone seeing me. But when I got there I collapsed somehwere in the cargo area." Arian told how he woke up in a hospital on Caleston and how he continued to live on the station without any desire to live until he was taken hostage and recruited by Naleena afterwards.

When he finished speaking none of them said a word for several minutes. Eventually Ruyak took the bottle and filled his glass again. "I'm really sorry for what happened." He looked Arian directly in the eyes. "What are you going to do now? You go with the spectre?"

Arian gave a nod.

"You're sure?" He just had to look in the turian's face to know the answer. With a sigh Ruyak leaned back and emptied his glass. "Ahhh, I somehow knew that you would leave Omega someday. I had just hoped that it wouldn't have been under these circumstances." He grabbed the bottle of Horosk and looked at it. "You know what the real problem of my abnormal body is? I can't get drunk, no matter how much of this **** I drink." Disgruntled he put the bottle aside.

Ein kleiner Jägermeister war nicht gern allein.

Drum lud er sich zum Osterfest neun Jägermeister ein!

Someone at Frank's table suddenly began to sing. It was probably one of their drinking songs and it didn't take long until the rest of the table had joined. At first Arian thought that he wasn't able to understand the text because of the singers being hopelessly drunk but he then realised that it was a language that he couldn't understand.

To his surprise many others joined singing as well. After a minute about half the club was bawling the song. The noise made it impossible for Ruyak and Arian to say anyting without shouting at each other. Both deeply sunken in their own thoughts listened to the singing.

Einer für alle, alle für einen!

Wenn einer fort ist, wer wird denn gleich weinen?

Einmal trifft’s jeden, ärger dich nicht!

So geht’s im Leben, du oder ich.

Einmal muss jeder geh’n

Und wenn dein Herz zerbricht,

davon wird die Welt nicht untergehn,

Mensch ärger dich nicht!

At some point the song was over but everyone seemed to continue to bawl. Arian saw Frank and the others raising their glasses before they began to drink unrestrainedly.

An incoming message on his omni-tool distracted him. With a sigh he opened and read it. It was from Commander Selani. After a few seconds Arian emptied his glass before getting up. "I have to go now", he said tersely and turned to leave. He didn't want to be here any longer, the memories of the time he had spent at the Flaming Fury hurt as if something was ripping him apart from the inside. Again he had this strange feeling, an urge to be on his own.

"Wait a second!" With a groan Ruyak moved his enormous body up and limped to Arian. "You look like you could use a new armor", he said and pointed at the remains of the hardsuit the turian was still wearing. "Some time after you had left Omega I went to your apartment and took all your stuff before someone else would take it. I still have your old armor."

Arian let out a joyless laughter. "I certainly don't want my mercenary armor, you can keep it..."

"I'm not talking about that armor. You still have the one from Sivia. I'm not very tactful, I know but you definitely need a new one or you won't survive another battle. And that armor is perfect for you."

The thought of wearing the armor that Sivia had gifted to him was too absurd. But something in him kept him from rejecting that offer. "I'm not sure...", he said.

"If you don't want it", Ruyak snarled, "I will sell it to the next best merchant here on Omega."

"Okay, okay, I'll take it!" Arian sighed annoyed. Then he looked at his krogan friend and tried to smile. "Thanks."

Upon his return on the Janiri Arian went to Septerax to inform the quartermaster that he didn't have to search for a good armor in Arian's size any longer. Then he entered his quarters and fell on his bed like a stone. Suddenly he felt the stress of the last hours and he realised that he hadn't slept for over thirty hours.

A vibration was felt throughout the ship as it detached from the spaceway and carefully maneuvered through the asteroid field surrounding the space station.

"Mr. Jorril, set a course for the Sahrabarik relay," Commander Selani ordered. "Take us to The Citadel."

Lt. Jorril engaged accelerated the ship to .9c and the trip to the relay took about 4 hours.

In the starboard cargo hold, Irina opened a bottle of beer, looked at her cards, and made a bet. "I'll see your 10 CR and raise you 10 more."

Jenus pondered over her cards.

"What's the matter? You either have a straight, all shields, or you don't."

"I'm out," Jenus said and threw her cards down.

Iole threw hers down, too. "I'm out."

"Aw, come on."

Tallis had a serious look in her eyes. "20 Credits.... 20 credits."

Irina took a drink from her bottle, and threw her money in the center of the table. "You're bluffing! I'll see you and call.... Come on, Tallis, let's see that hand of no-thing," she said singing a little bit started to take the pot.

Tallis shook her head, revealed her hand, and grinned. "4 goddesses! 4 goddesses!"

"Aw, f*ck me!" Irina said and threw her cards down.

"Later, Red." Iole said teasing Jenus.

"You're just jealous you're not getting any of this fine redhead," Jenus said taking a swig out of Irina's beer.

Irina looked over at Jenus. "Who said you were getting any?" Irina laughed got up, started walking out and motioned to Jenus. "Come on, I'm done. Tallis cleaned me out for the night."

Jenus stood and went over to Irina. "You need any creds?"

"Nah, I'm done," Irina said, and flirted. "Hey, I've got some more of this in my cabin, we're heading to The Citadel, and you know what that means."

"Shoreleave!" they both said as they started walking down the hall.

"But we have to look decent in the morning," Jenus said.

"You do. I don't. And... come on. Who'll know if we start a little early? I won't tell." Irina giggled and kissed her.

"We do the Silversun tomorrow night, okay?"

"How about we take my bike out for a spin?"

The Janiri exited the relay transit into the Serpent Nebula. Naleena felt the slight vertigo as the ship dropped to sublight speed. Even though the Asari discovered The Citadel over 3000 Thessian years ago, Naleena liked to watch it come into view as a ship approached. This was her first time to see it while in command of a vessel. VERA alerted her when The Citadel was approaching visual range of the ship, and Naleena walked up to the forward observation deck and gazed out toward its magnificence.

It docked at Docking Bay A-5

Dahlia consumed her scone and tea, noticed that they were approaching Caleston and that Yori was taking the ship into orbit. She made an announcement over the ship-wide PA system. “We’re arriving in orbit at Caleston. All those wishing to depart, head to the shuttle bay. Once the shuttle leaves, we’re headed to The Citadel, and we’ll take that as a commitment that you’re staying on board as crew of the Medusa.”

Then flipping off the PA system, she turned her attention back to Yori. “As soon as they’re off the ship, let’s get out of this system.  The Janiri is landing on The Citadel, and we’re meeting them there….  I assume that means shore leave, and you just arrived. Plan on heading to the Silversun?”

All of the crew that wanted to return to Caleston had left the Medusa on the shuttle. Per Jess' orders, Dahlia gave the order to set a course to the mass relay in the Balor System.

Frank shook his head in disappointment at his clothing options. Laid on his bed, were two possible outfits.  A rough looking jumpsuit from his mechanic days, or the C-SEC issued pants and gray t-shirt that hadn't been washed since he first boarded. It kinda sorta had a little bit of dried vomit on the sleeve.

He eventually decided on the jumpsuit. As always, he went straight for the mirror to admire himself.

It's either this, or that goofy **** they had Morgan wearing, and I definitely don't have the arms for that...

Frank flexed an arm, and frowned a little.

Still goddamn handsome though.

He winked at himself, before heading out into the corridor.
