One of the shots hit the beast and it turned to face the group. The warrior saw the group with their "magic" sticks and used the opportunity to flee deeper into the forest.

"Now I see why you get along with Goldie, Eli!' Jenus shouted as she drew her Claymore shotgun. She started a run towards the beast to intercept it, an attempt to also keep the animal from going after someone else.
"Clear the lane!" Iole shouted, leveling her Hellbringer. She wanted to fire, but with the dense jungle, and Jenus' pathing through the direct firing corridor, she had no shot.

As Jenus approached the beast it roared at her and it's aura hardened. The creature was huge, about the size of a giant grizzly. Naleena drew her Black Widow and took aim, but because of Jenus, didn't have a shot at the beast's head.
Irina drew her Mattock and slapped a mag of incendiary ammo in it. "This ought to give it some incentive to leave." She had an angle and fired a burst hitting it, but due to the barrier, it only singed its fur, making it mad.

"Oh, void take me," Jenus exclaimed, as the beast reared up. No biotics, no biotics. Jenus finally jumped out of the lane of fire, to the side and backwards, finding the best way to get some height and obstacles between her and the creature. She had wanted to distract it to prevent it from going after others, which she did. Now she had to worry about saving herself.

When the beast reared to a height of 12 feet, Naleena had its head in her sights and fired twice with the high powered weapon, penetrating the barrier, the second round exiting the skull. The creature stood motionless, appeared confused briefly, and then fell forward.
The jungle returned to silence.
"Anyone need a rug?" Irina asked.

Frank walked over to the corpse, and poked it with the barrel of his rifle.
"It would make a sweet-ass rug." He crouched for a better look. "If only I had a place to put it..."
He slung his rifle, and moved closer to the head. Pulling open the jaws, he gripped one of its long canine teeth, and tugged. When it didn't budge, he placed a foot on the beast's face, before trying again.
"Get.. *grunt* outta there... *grunt* you..." The tooth suddenly gave way, and Frank fell right on his ass.
"This'll look good next to my Pet Rock."

"Give me a hand with him," Irina said, "Help me flip him over."
"You're crazy," Jenus said. "You're gonna skin that thing?"
"Yeah, I'm gonna skin it." Irina said. "That's a fine hide, and we might be able to use it for trade."
"Trade?"
"Yeah, trade. That warrior probably belongs to a village, and chances are we'll run into it," she said. "This is proof he owes us."
Vayne interrupted. "Unless we interrupted his rite of passage."
"In which case, he'll have to do it again, right?" Irina said.
"No. In which case we'll have disgraced him," Vayne replied.
"Aw, sh*t. And here I thought...." Irina said, "Forget it. Let's just keep going."

"Your not seriously going to keep that thing, are you?" Essul asked as he looked towards eli and his tooth prize. He didn't much feel like messing with this things corpse, and actually winced a bit at Irina suggesting they skin the thing for its skin, "Please don't." he said simply.
"It's kinda a shame though. If we had a shuttle we could drag this thing in, make a nice souvenir." Vayne commented as he looked to the biotic bear. Still, draging that fur through the jungle to that things village could end up being that warriors death sentence. Or could be some sort of act of war. It was the safer bet not to skin it, "Sides that though, I don't much fancy dragging a pile of rotting skin through the jungle and back to the ship..." He said as he looked to Irina with a sigh, "It'd ruin the fur quality, get ti full of dirt and holes."
As the group moved forward, essul curiously held up his hand, walking in pace with the others as he stared to it. He focused a second as his hand suddenly glowed a bright blue, shimmering with energy as he closed his hand and extinguished the field.
"The hell are you doing?" Vayne asked curiously as he looked ahead towards essul.
"Experimenting. My biotics aren't that powerful on their own. If I need to use them, knowing how much I need to hold back could be useful..." Essul answered plainly as he walked forward, biotic field shimmering to life on both his hands this time, weaker then before, "It's usually a huge strain to use my biotics. Here though, It feels almost natural."
"As opposed to unnaturally?" The krogan asked sarcastically, unsure how batarian biotics worked. He'd been around a while, and never heard anyone talk about their biotcis that way, not unless they were high on sand at least.
Essul was silent, turning away from vayne as he resealed his helmet, "...We should get moving. Locate wherever this relic is leading us." He said formerly, dropping the conversation then and there.

Irina had moved ahead. The group followed her and she saw what appeared to be the same young warrior and an elder. They appeared to be afraid. Irina sheathed her machete and held her hands palms toward them to indicate peaceful intentions.
The elder spoke in a language that no one could understand.
Naleena stepped forward. “VERA, listen and let me know if you can figure out what he’s saying.”
“I will do my best.”
The elder continued to talk, and Irina continued to try to explain in hand signals that they were looking for a Drell. “Damn, I wish Tallis were here right now,” she said.
“I am sorry, Boss, but the interstellar databanks do not have any languages that match,” she said. “I will continue to monitor and construct a language algorithm that I can upload into your omni-tools.”
“Unfortunately we can’t keep him talking forever,” Naleena said.
The young warrior said something to the elder. The elder listened intently and nodded.
Naleena decided to take a chance and approach the elder. Her eyes went black and she melded with him.
Irina fumbled through her pack and found the relic while they were in the meld.
Naleena broke the meld after gathering what she needed and communicating what she needed to communicate.
“What did you see?” Jenus asked.
“The images were jumbled, but I believe he is the leader of a servant tribe. There’s a dominant tribe near here. He has memories of tyranny and brutality; whoever he serves is ruthless,” Naleena said. “I communicated that we came in peace and would do no harm. Strange though that this race resembles the Collectors, yet they are different.”
The elder approached Irina and looked at the relic. Then he proclaimed something in his language and fell to his knees. Others of his kind came out from the forest and did the same.
“Hey, Red. They seem to think you’re some kind of deity.” Jenus said. “Must be your hair.”
“Or this relic,” she replied. It was glowing quite brightly. “Something nearby must be triggering it.”
“And they think we can save them from their oppressors, and they’re begging you to do it.” Faed said.

"You see anything in that bugs head about where our drell is?" Vayne asked as he crossed his arms, looking towards each of the not-collectors suspiciously, "If not, I suggest we find whoever it is who has em, and torch em." He said plainly. These things look close enough to collectors that he didn't much mind seeing a few burnt.
Hearing franks words, he couldn't help but chuckle, "I'd like to see them try. I hope they like eating lead shot and flame fuel." Vayne said, not really seeing the threat. Sure they had biotics, but so did they, who were better trained, and guns as well. He was sure whatever they threw their way, they could handle it.
"No..." Essul stated simply, walking towards Irina and Naleena as he looked towards both of them, "We're helping them." Essul said, making it clear he'd made up his mind on this.
"You can't be serious..." Vayne said with an exacerbated expression, "They're primitive collector-things. Let em sort it out themselves and kill each other off."
"You said his memories are filled with tyranny and brutality. That whoever their serving is ruthless. It's a safe bet that the drell was taken there. If he was, I am doubtful that this tribe will show mercy on a strange creature they can't even understand." Essul said, laying out the facts as he saw them, "And even if he's not there, we should help them anyway. This should not be allowed to stand."

“I agree,” Naleena said. “We liberate them from their oppressors. Maybe Feron’s alive, maybe he’s not. But they appear to have recognized the relic, and if we help them, they might be able to help us. And Irina, since you have the relic, you should give the order.”
Irina sighed and was about to try and communicate with the elder. “Where is Tallis when I need her?” she said. “I don’t know if this will work, but…. Oh well, here goes.” Irina tried to make some Aboriginal signs indicating they would help, but they needed someone to show them how to get to the dominant tribe.”
The elder approached Irina and touched her face, then he backed off and turned to the young warrior and spoke to him. The young warrior was afraid, and the elder spoke firmly to him.
While this was going on Naleena was curious. “Irina, did you feel anything?”
“No. It was not like an Asari meld, but I think he felt something.”
The elder put his hands on the young warriors shoulders and pushed him toward Irina. “Mandu.”
“The boy’s name is Mandu?” she asked.
He pointed at the boy. “Mandu.”
Irina looked at the boy. “Mandu,” she said and gestured to lead on.
Mandu led them on a trail through more heavy jungle about a kilometer from where they spoke to the elder. The trail wound around the side of a cliff and climbed upward. This was not good. Irina grabbed Mandu and made some hand signals about guard positions and the camp location. He pointed away and made some other gestures.
Irina turned around. “I think he’s saying that the camp is further down and near some kind of structure like a temple of some sort.”
Mandu made some other gestures and spoke.
“He seems to indicate the temple was theirs a long time ago,” Irina said.
VERA spoke over the communicator to the team. “I have been comparing the spoken language of the tribe with the spoken and written languages of all galactic species in my database. While it is not an exact match, the language has its roots in Prothean.”
“And this is what is left of their race?” Faed asked.
“It is highly unlikely that this is the only tribe in existence. The gene pool would be too small for survival,” VERA said. “However, this world could have served as a place to hide from the reapers, or perhaps a dreadnought crashed here. The way the atmosphere and environment disrupts scanners and communications, perhaps the reapers never found them?”
“Do you have enough of their language deciphered to where we can understand them?” Naleena asked.
“Perhaps 1000 words. They, however, will not be able to understand you without an omni-tool. Studies of primitive societies indicate that advanced technology would appear to be magic,” VERA said. “Presenting one of these could be seen as ‘bad juju.’”
“Understood. Thank you, VERA.” Naleena said.
Irina indicated to Mandu to continue.
“This way,” Mandu said.
The trail continued up for another 100 meters then veered westward along the canyon, however the ground flattened out. They came to a junction of several trails, and the trail they were on widened, meaning less cover. Mandu motioned that they should leave the trail, move into the forest and continue parallel to the trail.
Then they came upon the enemy camp, and heard them. The noises were familiar to Naleena and Vayne. They approached quietly and saw them from a distance…. They looked like Collectors, but they had been here a while. They lacked sophisticated weaponry, but seemed to have firearms. A few seemingly important members were occupied with a Drell prisoner, apparently about to be sacrificed.

Vayne's blood went cold the moment he heard the clicking, chattering noise, eye shrinking as he looked towards naleena, "That doesn't sound like these collectors..." He said, knowing the sound they made all too well. In the distance, he spotted them, not collector like-beings like these natives were apparently, but real collectors, old but still very much real.
"Collectors...with guns..." Vayne said as he spotted the objects they were holding and the position their arms were in holding them, recognizing the grasp anywhere on any species. He drew his shotgun slowly, growling to himself as he looked back towards the others, "Irina. Stay back there. This could get very bad."
Essul meanwhile looked towards the two asari and faed, assessing the situation and coming up with a vague strategy, "Whichever one of you is more skilled with a barrier, get one up over faed and irina. We may not have expected armed hostiles, but that doesn't mean we can't handle them..." He said as he drew his kishock harpoon gun, looking towards the 4 eyed bugs as they got ready with their drell prisoner, moving up.
"I can take out 1, maybe 2 of them from this range. Just give the word commander." Essul said as he glanced towards Naleena, getting his tactical cloak ready to move up after he'd fired his shots.

Naleena motioned to Essul that they would take out the three at the alter upon which they had laid Feron in a synched kill, and to the others that would signal the attack. The weapons that the Collectors had did not look like mass effect weapons, nor did they look like energy weapons. They were firearms. Primitive, but deadly nonetheless.

...on the Citadel
Detective Hagen could hear the others, but she was temporarily separated. Most of the people inside the warehouse weren’t guards, but many were asari, they were reacting, and those that were picked up weapons. Unless they had something else to use…
One asari tech engineer by Molly began to raise her hand towards the detective and glow blue. The warp that was fired was only a second too late as Hagen dove behind one of the large crates for cover. Without thinking twice, Molly ran to the other side of the obstacle and came around, gun leveled. Another asari tech engineer was picking up an avenger. Molly aimed and fired five times, hitting her with all but one shot. The tech shouted out in pain and collapsed dead. The detective knew she had to keep moving, and tried to set her course indirectly deeper into the facility.
There was an office block Molly spotted, across the warehouse but able to be reached if she was careful. Another tech, this one a man, popped up from over a desk and fired pistol shots at Molly but he wasn’t trained and his projectiles went wide. Hagen pulled back, then came out again, firing another series of shots, with one landing square above the man’s eye socket. As he went down, Molly moved again.
This time, she came around a crate face to face with a Geth Armature. She gasped at the death machine looming above her, then immediately sighed in relief remembering it wasn’t activated. More shouts distracted her, and she could hear Miss Priss somewhere, tearing up the place with her minute, yet deadly accurate, holdout pistol. For a moment, Molly searched out a path to get her closer to the office block, and then something cause her heart to jump and her skin to draw pale.
The Armature in front of Molly began to move.

Over the communicators to the team, Naleena spoke quietly. "There are three Collectors that look like they're ready to sacrifice Feron to some deity. Essul and I can take out two of them. We'll need a third for a synched kill. Who is a real good shot with a sniper rifle or assault rifle?"
"I have a scope on my AR," Irina replied.
"Anyone else?" she asked.
Frank was thinking about how the bulkiness of his heavy armor would affect his aim. He was really thinking about it. (and could interrupt if he wants)
"Alright, we'll kill the three, and that's the cue to open up on the rest," Naleena said. "Try not to hit Feron. He's on the altar in the north end of the camp. We're facing west."
Faed looked very nervous and he was looking back and forth. "What about me? I have no combat training?"
"You just lay flat on the ground behind everyone," Naleena replied.

"Taking Aim..." Essul said as his mind shifted into combat mode, shutting out distractions as he breathed carefully, aiming his shot for the collector through the kishock as he felt the butt resting against his arm. He didn't envy Naleena and the widow she wielded, in fact, the memory of his time with the widow and it breaking his shoulder made his stomach feel like it was fluttering for a few breif seconds. "Training on Center. Call your targets..." He said aloud, wanting none of their shots to go to waste as he aimed for the middle collector.

"I'll just... take whatever's left, I guess." Frank half-shrugged a shoulder from his prone position. He adjusted his scope's magnification to 8X, giving him a decent view of Feron and his captors.

The group was hidden behind bushes, and rocks. Frank was prone over a fallen tree, Naleena steady over a rock, and Essul against an old growth tree. Irina was against a younger but mature tree, and had her AR ready. Vayne had his favorite weapon ready, and Jenus had her Claymore ready. Iole had the Hellbringer set atop a rock on the far right flank where she had a clear view of the camp. Arian was behind another rock. Faed lay prone on the ground behind the rocks.
The Collectors were at platoon strength. Cover in their camp was modest made up of rocks and a few huts constructed out of rocks with straw roofs. There were no young Collectors.
“Alright, I have the target on the right. Frank, take the target on the left,” Naleena said. “Let me know when you have a lock.”
“Ready,” Frank replied.
“Ready,” Essul replied.
Naleena initiated the countdown. “On my mark: Three… two… one…” Shots rang out and the three targets around Feron dropped.
Iole opened up with the Hellbringer. “Let’s rock!!” Three Collectors were ripped to shreds by the fire from her weapon, and the others dove into cover.

"I've got your backs from here. Good luck, guys." Frank briefly looked away from his scope, as the others began to advance. He would be much more effective from a distance.
"I'm hangin' back with Faed."
Leaving Faed behind in a jungle full of goddamn biotic bears and sh*t would be kind of a dick move.
"Let me know if you see any goddamn biotic bears or some sh*t, Slick." He brought the scope back to his eye.

Essul activated his tactical cloak, his form shimmering out of sight as he moved up along the treeline, keeping aware of the environment around himself for any rocks that could be used for cover as he moved invisibly up through the tree line. He held down the trigger on his rifle, the clicking noise from his rifles charging sounding eerily familiar for some as he took aim for another collector heading up towards Feron, blasting it clear through the side of its head with one of his harpoons as he took aim for another shot.
"Once we break this line, we give them goddamn hell." Vayne said as he held his shotgun in one hand, prepping his omnitool for a multi-grenade launch to scatter the collector force, and hopefully get them a bit shaken up and unable to coordinate well.

Wait a second...something's wrong...hmmm...hm...AH! Yes, right...forgot about this...
For Arian it felt as if he didn't use his voice soon it would just die away. Since his return to the Janiri he hadn't talked to anyone and spent most of his time in his quarters or in the gym. Except for getting helplessly drunk the only other thing he did on the Citadel was to buy a new set of armor. It was a just a light titan armor and the lack of weight made the turian feel almost naked but at least it gave him some more freedom for his movement and the extreme temperature of this jungle wasn't as bad as it would have been with a set of heavy armor. The armor that his krogan friend had given him on Omega was still in his quarters and still refused to wear it.
On the team's way through the jungle Arian kept as much distance to the others as possible without losing them. He noticed that there was something going on between Jenus and Iole but since he didn't even know the commandos he didn't care about it for a second. And while Irina and the others dealt with the tribesmen Arian stayed back and looked out for any dangers. He wasn't interested in any natives or some glowing artifact while there could be countless wild creatures around like that biotic bear just waiting for them to be unwary.
When they approached the collectors who seemed to be in the middle of sacrificing a drell captive Arian to cover behind a large rock and had a look on their enemy. He already had heard stories about these creatures who once lived behind the Omega-4 relay and now were believed to be wiped out because of Shepard and her team. It was the first time Arian encountered a collector and was surprised how ordinary they looked like. Sure, they looked different than any other known race but they didn't seem to be much of a threat, not with their primitive weaponry.
The need to fight them without the use of biotics was no problem for Arian since he was no biotic. When the three collectors around the drell dropped Arian stunned a fourth and then opened fire with his rifle on the collectors who ran into cover.

The Collectors drew their weapons and began returning fire at the team. Several of them concentrated fire on Iole forcing her to take cover.
Irina prepared a grenade and threw it at a group that was behind a rock wall. "Frag out!" She missed. The frag landed in front of the wall, but it caused them to take cover. Iole opened up with her Hellbringer again, pinning down that group.
Naleena took out another one that was running forward to take position behind a stack of crates.
Irina went prone and moved forward to what she thought was a better position. She had her shotgun drawn for this. Moving through the tall grass, she saw a low pile of rocks over which she had a clear shot of everything in the camp. This maneuver had become known as "going Rambo" especially when she failed to tell anyone about it. Unfortunately as she approached the rocks, a Collector had the same idea, and saw her. She quickly rolled out of the way as he fired and missed from close range. She fired her shotgun and missed. The Collector closed into close quarters range, and Irina fired her second round and missed as the Collector dove to the ground. She drew her combat knife and the two entered into a struggle. The Collector was strong, powerful, and kept pushing the knife toward Irina. She struggled to roll out from underneath. Naleena had a shot and took it, rapid firing two rounds and the Collector's head exploded.

Nice.
Frank's finger moved from the trigger, back to the receiver, as Irina pushed his now headless collector off of herself. He smirked as she spat, and retrieved her knife from the corpse's hand. He immediately scanned for another target.
"Heads up. Four comin' from the South..." Frank followed the group through his scope, while carefully moving his finger back to the trigger. Keeping the reticle slightly in front of his target, he pulled it straight back with the pad of his finger, and dropped the lead collector with a fairly clean shot that missed the center mass and passed through the neck. "Make that three."
His next two shots only served to wound one out of the remaining three.
