Lorek - Outskirts of Jalnor
The large island that Jalnor sat upon was a rare landmass that managed to span not just the Habitable Belt that made up the tidally locked worlds equator, but also extended East and West, into the dry arid zone and the cold frozen tundra zone. The western tip of the Island had a constant day and was humid hotbox, a miserable place once you got past the thing belt that made up a warm watery beach area. The eastern stretch was cold, with icy chunks leading into the frozen ice-shelf of the oceans that served as the "winter area" for any tourists. The island itself was massive, and there was lots of space for the millions of residents to call home.
Which made living on the outskirts a rather strange place, unless you wanted to be left alone, or were being forced to be alone. For the Esan Resistance, or Esan Movement depending on who you asked, it was both at once, as the asari nationalists who wanted their colony freed from hegemonic rule knew staying in the city would be a death trap. Instead, they hid in the forzen edges of the island, where few willingly ventured to, held up in the small compound area they were forced to call home.
They'd done much to try and win over the people, the other asari, the occasional salarian or hanar, even a few batarians. They'd donated and offered their services as a security force for less government oriented events. They'd given speeches, organized non-violent protests, even attempted to arrange some form of hearing with the colonial governor, yet to no avail.
Now any hope of coming to some sort of agreement was over. Many people's lives were lost in the Wayland-Yutani facility blowing up. Many families demanded justice on the world. And the Governor had to answer them, to give someone to blame while his homeworlds government sought justice with the one truly responsible. An asari had done this crime, and now the asari would pay the price.
"This is your last warning. Surrender now. Or you will be charged with Resisting Arrest!" Police Commissioner Yudas was an aged batarain, who'd served the colonial police for nearly 40 years of his life. He stood with the other officers behind skycars and erected barriers as the square grey compound sat silent in the snow, is doors firmly shut and barriers active. The arrest of any asari activists was an order he knew was bullshit. But it was neccisary bullshit to keep the people of this colony from rioting. The Esan just happened to be the unlucky ones to get their time called.
"We Didn't Do Anything! You have the proof that we didn't already!!" Came a cry from one of the only open areas of the compound, a small window open and facing the exterior. "You've been monitoring us for years, You know we didn't do this!!"
Yudas let out a sigh as he rubbed his temple, feeling the familiar stress building inside of himself. He didn't want to call in the BSIU, not for something like this at least. The smoother this went, the better it'd be in the long run, and the better retirement package he'd get for himself a few months from now. If the Intervention Force got involved, he'd have to spend a whole year just filling out paperwork about why so much broken bones and dead bodies filled up from a simple arrest warrant.
He turned to look at the stranger in his little band of policemen, an asari sitting in the back seat of skycar. He grumbled out to himself as he weighed his option, already hours in to this and with no success. Every time he sent one of his men in, the biotics would come flying from the window above. It wasn't lethal, but it was delaying for certain. And he couldn't escalate things by bringing in the bigger guns.
Which left him with one option. He walked over and opened the back of the door. "I've considered your offer..." He said as the asari inside turned to look at him, or rather, look in his general direction.
"And what have you come to conclude, Commissioner?" She asked, her voice icy cold as the yellow lenses of her glowing visor illuminated the dark back seat of the policecar.
"If you help handle this situation...I'll consider reducing your sentence." Yudas said with a reluctant sneer. He hated having to use a foreigner for something liek this, much less dealing with them. But his options were limited, 'Besides, I don't need to keep my word. As long as she does what I ordered her to. I can throw her back in with those other squid-heads.'
Ezkra K'Seni was silent as she got out of the car, boots crunching in the snow as she walked forward. Even with her holographic glowing visor, one could see the white color of her eyes. She walked forward as the visors visuals sent their signals through connectors in her brain, acting as her eyes as they zoomed in to the window above. A snap of heat vision let her assess the situation. 5 in the upper floor, multiple unknowns on the bottom levesl, too unclear to see.
She stopped in the front of the building as she looked up to the other asari, seeing one of them rushing to the door as she spoke out. "Who the heck are you? Do you think sending out some random asari's gonna convince us to give up?"
"I'm just here to talk..." Ezkra said aloud, her breath fogging in front of her as she flexed her hand behind her, getting ready to move, "Why don't we talk, face to face?"
"Face this, Bi-" The asari inside moved, her hand ignited with biotic energy, but Ezkra was faster. In the blink of an eye she had sent a stasis field around the target, now stuck halfway out of the window with her head and right arm exposed. Ezkra held out her other hand, a biotic glow easily seen by everyone around.
"You're friend's snagged in my field. Unless you want her to become a biotic explosion trigger, Open the doors now..." She said flatly as she spotted movement behind the stasis'd asari. She moved faster, her omnitool out and firing a cryo blast as it struck the frozen asari. It did nothing to her, but the shriek from behind made it clear, the area of effect for the quick freezing fluid had found a mark. "Don't try to move her, and don't try attacking me. Open the gate, or none of you will walk away alive..." She said flatly, frowning as these asari rebels tested her patience.
She felt sorry for them, truly she did. IT was clear the council had pulled strings to strike at the hegemony. And it was clear they'd signed these asari to take the blame. But such as life, betrayal was an inevitable part of living. Someone always had to stab someone else in the back, even if they never realized they'd done so.
The compounds doors unlocked, Ezkra's face unchanging as she threw out a low powered warp bomb towards her stasis target, screams from the upper floor as the sudden blast blew out the room and sent all inside slamming against the wall. They were disoriented, some perhaps were deaf, but they'd live at least.
She didn't even flinch when her occular sensor detected multiple people sneaking up behind her, knowing what it was about from the start. "Let me guess...you're going back on your word?" She asked as she turned around, seeing Yudas pointing a gun at her, with 3 other cops giving him backup.
"Nothing personal. But flaunting the law isn't something so easily forgiven..." He said as he motioned for the others, a quick shot of the submission net sending Ezkra to her knees, her hands bound in cuffs and a collar slapped on her neck, already feeling the sense of nausea it caused her sweeping through her system. Biotics were dangerous to take in, and unless one had a means of keeping them from using their powers, they were essentially always armed.
The Anti-Biotic Collar made a person feel like ****. It's effects weren't damaging, but it did make it hard to concentrate and use ones biotics. Still, Ezkra looked towards the aging, over-weight batarian with a scowl.
"Betrayal is inevitable. All things in life hurt the ones who trust them eventually...your time will come..." She said with a glare, as Yudas activated his enforcer gauntlet of his omnitool, rearing back his hand as he brought it hard across her face.
Her entire world was swallowed by darkness. Once again.
