Shinaga and Naleena (JB and SJ)

Shinaga listened to the voice, her father’s voice speaking to Wrund. It was his there could be no doubt about that. Shinaga shook her head, taking a step back as she spoke, voice faint as she whispered to herself.

"That can't be...that isn't real..." She said as her hands were trembling, eyes wide as the recording played through, "He would never...he...he..." She growled as she threw her hand out to her side, stomping towards Naleena with a fiery anger.

"HE WOULD NEVER DO THIS!!! NOT TO ME! NOT TO HIS OWN CHILD! HIS KRANTT!!!" She screamed, loud enough for her own men to jump and look towards the direction. All the while looking like she was fighting back tears of rage and horror.

"Wrund is a weakling!!! A coward! My father would never promise someone like me that, That, Pyjak!!" She said, seeming to have gotten her composure as she knew the truth. "He would never...." she began, but couldn't finish. She knew the truth, even if she couldn't face it.

This recording was real. The way he spoke, the sound of his voice. It was all too real. Too accurate to possibly be a fake. She knew someone had to have leaked this. The Krogan the forsworn had been ordered to search out perhaps. But those to her were secondary.

She had been used. Thrown aside. And she felt absolute humiliation as she looked towards the Asari she'd been keen on breaking apart mere minutes ago, with a new light.

"Why didn't you...play this out there? You could have turned my men against me and just ran...so why didn't you?" She asked with venom in her words but not making a single move towards Naleena.

Naleena opened her coat, pulled out her cigarette case, took out a cigarette and lit it. "Turning your men against you would accomplish nothing," she said. "You would fight with your men. We might escape. Wrund would win. The blood oath remains, and I'd fail in my mission. Or we might have died trying to escape. Either way it would have done neither of us any good, would it?

"But this isn't just about personal revenge," Naleena said and took a confident drag from her cigarette. "Like I said there's more to this. We need each other for something that your father would never do. He only cares about battle glory. Because of something you said not long ago, I know you'll do this: help me save the Krogan in this city."

Shinaga gave Naleena a puzzled look.

"Wrund needs to die. He's led this city to ruin. Look at it!" Naleena said and then gestured in the negative with her cigarette as she continued. "But Sonax, while they were pulling out their troops built an extensive satellite 'defense' system. My contact with the Shadow Broker asked a question while he was being interviewed. 'Why would Sonax build such a system while they were withdrawing? I find that odd.' So I contacted my ship and had them scan the satellites and we discovered that they were capable of orbital bombardment. The only logical conclusion is that they plan to bombard Dhazil and eliminate the Krogan forces from orbit, then return and take the mineral resources. Population losses are no concern to Sonax. We need to evacuate the city.

"For this information, I ask for Vayne's life."

"All of this effort for revenge...and taking this extra risk, to save one Krogan..." Shinaga said quietly, giving a nod as she came to her conclusion, "You act like a Krogan should act...but there are some things that must end in blood..."

With that said, she got on her comms, "Lieutenant! Release the prisoners! Take a detachment and get them to the tower unharmed!"

"WHAT!? You gotta be kidding me!" A reply came from below.

"I do not kid. And bring the Kadavar here...we’ve something to discuss..." She said, before looking to Naleena, "I cannot forgive him for what he's done. But, I can offer something else. My father must be stopped if any evacuation is to occur. And the only way to do that is to prove he's not fit to lead us in front of everyone..."

Shinaga clenched his fist, growling as she laid out her plan, "Father...Ganar Slayt, must be defeated in a Trial by Combat. I must fight him, but I may bring in help to do so. If Vayne fights by my side and survives...then I will consider his debt paid."

"But before that, there's something I must ask...Wrund has many of the females of this world at his tower...when you defeat him. Please...get them off of this world. The blood pack can try...but there's not enough room on our ships alone."

"My ship can hold 200 in the cargo hold. I'll do as you ask. I'll give them the order for pick up," Naleena said. "I just need their location and a clear and secure area to land the ship."

“You’ll have it,” Shinaga replied.

“You mentioned that I challenged Wrund in the Old Ways. Would you explain these to me?”

Shinaga’s eyes softened. “According to the old ways the two of you must meet and fight to the death. Each of you may bring a Krannt, a second to fight alongside of you. No one may interfere. Should anyone interfere for any reason it will bring dishonor upon the entire clan. In your case, that would be your entire ship and crew. In his case, upon the entire Clan Hailot. Choose your Krannt wisely.”

Ereba and Faed

"Hey, Two-brains, we have orders to pull out," Ereba said.

"We are Legion. The other is Faed. Why do you call us 'Two-brains?'" Legion asked over the comm.

"I think you just answered your own question. One body, two brains. It's easier for me to remember, and I just leave it to you guys to sort out," Ereba said.

Faed/Legion climbed back down the roof drain pipe to street level. "That is logical." he said and saw her waiting for him, cloaked, behind a blown up vehicle and made his way over to her.

"It's kind of how nicknames work. There's Textbrain because she's always thinking, Two-times because she says things twice, Goldie because of her gold flecks, Red because of her red hair, Too-tall because of her height, and Boomer because she blew up the Nova Dawn building," Ereba said as Faed/Legion approached. "Then recently there's Circuit-brain for VERA, because her brain is full of circuits. No offense."

"We do not understand offense. What is your nickname?"

"I dunno. Boomer hasn't given me one yet," Ereba replied. "But I do know it's about to get hot here. Krogan patrols are moving in to the area fast. We need to move." Ereba tapped her comm. “L-T, we’re coming to you. What’s your position?”

“Sending coordinates. The area is hot. Be careful,” Mira replied.

“Copy that.”

“You called her L-T, yet you said her nickname was Textbrain,” Legion/Faed said.

“You use nicknames when you’re familiar with a person… or confused by them…. I don’t know the Lieutenant well enough to call her Textbrain, so I call her L-T. It’s short for Lieutenant,” Ereba explained.

The two moved with stealth through the area dodging Krogan patrols

The pair moved through the streets with stealth until they were only two blocks from Mira’s location. There was a Krogan patrol between them and Mira and unfortunately they didn’t seem like they were going anywhere.

Ereba tapped her communicator again. “L-T, we’re nearby, but there’s a patrol right between us. We can’t easily get to you without risking being seen. They might be able to hear us cross the street even cloaked. Any ideas?”

Iole and Tallis

The two Commandos moved as rapidly as they could while maintaining silence.  There was a moment they stumbled across a civilian family, huddled in a ruined storefront, just trying to survive.  Two rations handed out sealed any question they might have had about giving the asari awy, though chances are they were no friends to the warring sides that had put them in their current state.  Several blocks later, the asari took a few minutes breather.

"The action is making it tough to get to the rally point," Iole admitted.  The Commandos had been moving laterally towards their goal, unable to close distance without being spotted.

"Yes. Yes.  There.  There."  Tallis agreed and pointed across the street.

Iole followed her gesture.  In an alley just barely wide enough to fit it, was the rear of a Tomkah with a Blood Pack skull and fist on its drop hatch.  But something was strange about the symbol; a sharp eye could detect that someone had tried to scrape or sand off the symbol, leaving bare metal to show where the attempt had been made.

"A parked Tomkah?  Meant to stay out of sight."  Iole was suspicious.  "Not wanting to be seen in a mostly Pack controlled area.  And no typical krogan guard outside the vehicle, not that they don't have cameras."

"Empty?  Empty?"

"Maybe."  After a last pause for consideration, Iole said, "Worth the risk.  Let's not make ourselves obvious, though."

Tallis and Iole slipped across the street, through the buildings there until they could find a way to look down on the Tomkah from an abandoned second story room.  The engine was idling but it was quiet.  With a few gestures, Iole pointed towards the top hatch, likely the most vulnerable way inside.  Then Iole and Tallis dropped down onto the Tomkah from above with light feet that made little sound.  Iole tried the hatch and found it to be fortunately unlocked, so she yanked it open as Tallis aimed her Claymore inside.

A voice thick with accent said, "Handsome spotted you when you were crossing the street, little foxes.  What took you so long?"

Miss Priss in her pink armor with silver faux inlines poked her half helmeted head into view from the large passenger cabin area.  For all her put together mannerisms, she obviously hadn't just been sitting around the Tomkah as her face was sweaty.

Morgan couldn't be seen well as he was all the way forward in the driver position, but he called back.  "Come in.  We'll find the rest of your team in this.  I hope you can tell them not to shoot us when we approach."

Vayne, Naleena & Shinaga (JB & SJ)

Vayne had to wonder what was going on, gritting his teeth as he glanced towards the others being forced on their knees. He felt the guilt clawing up his back. They never should have come to this planet. He should never have let them come here.

And suddenly, it all ended. Vayne felt the weight of his attacker ease up, and was dragged to his feet. “Come on...the boss wants a word with you.” The second in command said as he shoved him to get moving.

Vayne glanced back to see the others being helped up, the krogan keeping their guns ready but not making a move against them. 'Just how well did your negotiation go, Naleena?' He thought to himself as he was brought into the room where the two were meeting.

Shinaga glared at Vayne as he entered, keeping her arms crossed, and looked visibly angry. But he could tell this wasn't normal, this was the type of anger Krogan got before a big fight. He cautiously glanced towards Naleena, then back. She didn't seem worried about this.

“...” Vayne looked between the two, waiting for someone to make a move when Shinaga spoke.

“Kadavar Vayne...You, who killed my brother in cold blood... You have a debt to pay, one that must be paid in blood,” She began, glaring as Vayne decided to keep quiet for now, dreading where this was going, “But because of your leader...that blood may not be your own. I now see my Father needs to be stopped. And I want your help...”

Vayne looked to Naleena with surprise, “How did you pull this off?” He said before quickly looking towards Shinaga, “I'll do it. Sure. But...how?” he asked.

“My father adheres to the old ways. Just as Wrund must answer a challenge, so to must he. I can't trust anyone in my squad to fight against my father...They can't bring themselves to do it...but I know you can.” She said as she stared at Vayne right into his eyes.

Vayne was silent, before finally nodding. “Alright...so when do we get started?” He asked.

“As soon as we get there, we have to cut him off, before he makes it back to Wrund's citadel. Our duel can distract half the blood pack forces...and it can ensure you get your shot at Wrund.” She said a she looked to Naleena, “Take one of our Tomkahs, and choose your Krannt for this fight. My men will keep Wrund’s from interfering. Just make sure you kill him.”

After Shinaga finished, Naleena turned to Vayne. “How did I pull this off? By being completely honest with her,” she said. “If the two of you win, your debt is paid. I must also stop Wrund and rescue his females. Good luck, my friend.”

Names had gone through her head. Irina? Tough, unpredictable, but starting to slow down. Johnny? If he loses his goggles he’s done. Arian? A killing machine, but not a biotic. Essul? He doesn’t feel pain, but he’s the XO. Jenus…. Yes, Jenus. Fast, athletic, powerful vanguard, and perhaps the best trained of anyone on the team. Naleena could set her up for biotic explosions with her charge and detonate her lift grenades. Commandos held off the Krogan on Cyone. If they could get a synergy going, they’d own the battle. She’d probably hate her for being chosen, but this was not an option. Then she got on her communicator. “Mira, I found and met with Ganar Shinaga. She and Vayne will fight Ganar Slayt to the death. In turn, due to the recording we played, I challenged Hailot Wrund in the old ways. This means that Wrund and I must meet and fight to the death. I can choose a second, a Krannt, to fight alongside me. Being chosen as a Krannt is considered an honor. Inform Jenus I've chosen her.

“The rules are that no one from either side may interfere, no matter how bad it gets. If they do they bring dishonor to their entire clan. In our case that is our entire team and crew. Make sure Jenus has plenty of thermal clips, lift grenades, a grenade launcher, and a blade of some sort. Victory is the only option. I'll meet you in the City Center. I'll be in a Tomkah. After the fight we will evacuate Wrund’s females from his tower.”

The Commandos (and some guests)

"What?"

Jenus' face was frozen in a blank stare in front of Mira.

"You heard the Spectre.  You've got to load up to fight alongside her and take down Haliot Wrund.  I know you're familiar with the honor duels of the krogan, at least in an ancillary way."

There wasn't a change in Jenus' expression.  After a long pause, she took a deep breath and then spoke again.

"What?"

"All right," Adonya said, "Maybe she's combat fatigued.  I'll step in, or if you prefer, you could ask Asteria or Lusia."

"It's not up to me," Mira followed.  "It's direct from Naleena, and since it's a fight to the death, this isn't open for other options.  Besides, I know my vanguard."

"What?"

Mira rolled her eyes.  "Come on, you've got to prepare yourself."  She put her arm around Jenus' shoulder and walked away from the others a bit, whispering in Jenus' ear.

"Did I hear what I think I heard?"  It was Iole's voice, coming over the Commando's com.  "This may be a secure channel but somebody forgot to exclude us in the com.  I'd like to think that wasn't by accident."

"Where are you currently?"  Adonya asked.  "We're waiting for a Scythe to pick us up and we'll have to fly over to the Spectre."

"Forget the Scythes," Iole replied, "This insanity demands something better.  I've got your ride incoming in less than two minutes."

There was the low, unmistakably mechanical, sound of huge wheels grinding the rubble and dirt beneath them from down one of the streets.  Rounding the corner was a Tomkah, and it flattened an abandoned and wrecked X3M skycar under a front tire as it turned.

"Breaker, is this com on?  I say, is this thing on?"  With it's unique southern accent, Miss Priss' voice was recognized by everyone.  "Ya'all we've got your twenty, so get yourself set to come on board.  Hammer down, we'll get you where you need before you can lick your whiskers!"

Naleena

Shinaga and Vayne prepared for their battle with Slayt. Naleena approached the Mako and her team.

“What did you tell her?” Irina asked.

“The truth. I put our cards on the table and she came over to our side,” Naleena said and turned to rest of the team. “However, you’ll have to go with them to the Blood Pack’s tower. This place is going to get hot soon. It’s the only place you’ll be safe. Vayne will go with Shinaga to fight in a blood-battle against her father. I will fight against Wrund to the death. It’s the Krogan way.

“I have chosen Jenus to be my Krannt.”

Irina’s face turned pale. “Why Jenus? Why not… Arian or Essul?” she asked and turned to Arian. “No offense.”

“Because Jenus is a vanguard which complements my abilities, has over 30 years of combat training, and is probably the most agile soldier on the entire ship. I need someone who can hit hard and stay out of the powerful grasp of a Krogan,” Naleena said. “And yes, she hates me. But it is in our best interests to keep each other alive and destroy our enemy. Now, I must go and rendezvous with the Commando team. If you have any gods, pray to them.”

Naleena gathered her weapons, her Black Widow, Torque Bow, Wakizashis, Carnifexes, Locust, frag grenades, smoke grenades, and plenty of thermal clips. The nice thing about the Black Widow was the way the barrel retracted when holstered on her back. She climbed into the Tomkah supplied by Shinaga for travel through the Wrund occupied zones, and strapped herself in.

Shinaga’s driver took her to the city center where Naleena waited for Jenus’ arrival.

"So, you know how we said we weren't going to need the Scythe for a pickup?" Iole rhetorically asked the others in the Tomkah Morgan was driving.  "We still don't, so it's true."

Adonya didn't look impressed.  "This isn't exactly the most well thought out confirmation of accuracy on a prior direction of an asset that I've ever heard of."

"We do what we have to," Mira explained, "And if Jenus needs something for her fight with the Spectre that she thinks will help, then we get it to her."

Tallis slapped Jenus on her shoulder.  "Affirmative!  Afirmative!"

Through the com, Ferro contacted Morgan, who had an open channel to the teams.  "This is Ferro.  We're over you, now."

Morgan waved from the front to Miss Priss, who opened a top hatch on the Tomkah, and climbed out.  "Come on, get yourself up here," Miss Priss called back down to Jenus who was already pulling herself up, "Mind the wind though, got a nastier bite than a Duellos Coyote!"

Jenus exited and stood atop the idle Tomkah, now out in one of the wider streets away from krogan patrols.  Above her, the Scythe shuttle that had transported Team Boom hovered, its eezo engines singing.  The rear ramp was opened and near enough for Ferro's asari co-pilot to grab a handle with one hand and toss Jenus her special delivery with the other.  The asari had to heave the item with a good amount of strength.

The spear Jenus had been given by the Yautja came her way and she caught the heavy weapon solidly.  For a moment, Jenus appreciated the spear's formidable shaft and long, heavy blade tip.  She'd sharpened the edges of that tip to perfection, and the spear looked mean under the Garvug sun.  The Scythe pulled away and the edge gleamed in the light.

"That's a helluva backscratcher," Miss Priss complimented.

Jenus glanced back at Priss with a gleam in her dark eyes. "I like to drive my points home with feeling."  Then she jumped back into the Tomkah.

Miss Priss cackled, and hollered,  "Ain't gotta say it twice!" She followed Jenus in and closed the hatch.

Shortly thereafter, Morgan drove the team to the location given as the city center.  The Tomkah rumbled in, the last of its kind to arrive, and the side hatch opened to let the teams out.  Jenus came last, hefting the Yautja spear over one shoulder.  When she caught Naleena's eye, she strode up to her side without a word, placing the shaft over her shoulders and behind her neck so she could casually rest her arms.  It was an unusual display of relaxed informality, that also had the effect of emphasizing Jenus' physical prowess.   The only break in her pose was when Jenus caught Irina and gave her a wink.

-Team Wrund-Fighters-

The sight was an odd one, the asari and others who'd been attacking the krogan, sandwhiched between two blackguard patrols who'd gone forward to help keep the challengers safe. Their forces spread out in a semicircle, and waited. They didn't need to wait long until Hailot Wrund and his band showed themselves, their own Tomkah's and forces coming to a halt when they saw the blackguard standing.

Wrund himself, one armed and holding the striker, smirked as he looked around, "And what's all this? The Blackguard giving me an early present? Quiet the way to make up for failing so much!" He said as he aimed his rifle towards the commandos. The blackguard moved quickly, leveling their guns and raising their shields as wrund's forces aimed as well, the one armed krogan looking confused for a moment before growing angry, very angry.

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING!? WHAT THE **** DO YOU THINK YOU'RE PULLING HERE!!??" Wrund exclaimed in fury as he looked between the lines of soliders. The person who answered was not the one many expected, nor the one many rememebred was there.

"Hailot Wrund...you've been challenged to a duel by Spectre Naleena Tsarius and her crew...In accordance to the old ways, choose your Second and step forward to do battle." Talyth said over the tomkah's comms, staying safe and sound in the armored tank as he looked to the others, "I...eh, used to mediate for Slayt's duels. It's second nature to announce for these sorts of things."

Wrund looked floored as he snarled, "A duel?....You want me to Duel this...this...Blue-Skinned SQUID!? What Does an ASARI Know of DUELING!?" Wrund demanded as he looked back to his own forces. "...Weyrloc Kragg...Get out here!"

One of the larger of Wrund's forces came forward, snatching the Revenant from one of the smaller ones as he marched forward, a brown and yellow krogan who now stood side by side with wrund.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-Shinaga and Vayne-

The two krogan traveled in silence with the rest of Shinaga's forces, sitting across from one another as they checked over their gear. Vayne counted the bullets for his shotgun, 12 in total that he'd brought for this mission. He looked over the Hammerburst, seeing it was low as he felt something hit his crest. He blinked as he looked down to see another 2 magazines, looking up as Shinaga gave him a stern glare.

"I don't need you slowing me down out there. If you need any ammunition, nows the time to ask..." She said as she set her hammer down to the side, reaching behind her as she drew a familiar looking short shotgun. Vayne looked to it as he attached the extra mags to the rifles side, where an arm had been attached to hold them.

"That's...an interesting gun you have..." Vayne said, recognizing it as Shinaga looked up to him. "Same to you..." She said, motioning to his double barrel shotgun. "This gun belonged to my brother...from what I hear, it did a number on you. We only found one however...he used to have two."

"Yeah. I remember that part..." Vayne said with a growl, not having forgotten the number it did. He was silent for a moment, before he spoke, "He came at me first, you know? Him and 5 vorcha, shooting up an entire block on Omega. I had to fight with nothing but my omnitool...even still, I'm sorry it had to turn out how it did..." he said, letting out a sigh as he realized he meant it. He didn't like having killed Ganar Grimm, even if he didn't have a choice. Another part of him said he did like it, but he knew enough to know.

He liked fighting, and he liked killing, but he didn't like having no choice in the matter. A solider who didn't choose their actions wasn't a life worth living.

"Ganar Grimm....he wasn't a good krogan..."

Vayne looked up in surprise as Shinaga looked down to her brothers gun, gripping it tightly as she let out a sigh of her own, "He was a drug addict..they kept the voices in his head quiet...or that's what he told me. I knew he'd get himself killed...but I'd always hoped it'd be against an army, taking down as many as he could. Not like that...not dumped in a darkened part of Omega..."

"...I'm sorry..." Vayne said, looking away only for Shinaga to deliver a kick to his leg, Vayne grunting in pain as he clutched his limb.

"Stop that. A krogan doesn't apologize for a kill...." Shinaga said sternly before she holstered her gun, "What is done is done...the past can't be changed. The fact that you're here...now...that'll see if I forgive you or not."

"We're approaching the combat zone in 30 secs. Get your guns ready..." The driver called back as Shinaga nodded, looking to Vayne as she gave him one final look, not a glare but one of concern, "Kavadar Vayne...good luck." she said.

Vayne blinked as he nodded, "Thanks...you to." He said taking in one final breath before their Tomkah entered the battlefield, and the gunfire began.

Jenus and Naleena (Kel & SJ)

Because she was in the Tomkah, Naleena passed unmolested through the Krogan held territory to the City Center. She sent Mira the rendezvous point to give to Jenus. After about 20 minutes, the Tomkah came to a stop. Naleena emerged. Off in the distance the sounds of explosions and gunfire echoed, but in the City Center it was dead quiet. That effect was surreal. Collapsed buildings surrounded the area, but a statue of Shiagur bordered by crumbling stone walls stood in the center facing west overlooking the devastation. This place was once a park and place of business. Now it was nothing but rubble.

Naleena saw Jenus arrive her side standing tall with the Yautja spear on her back along with her other weapons. She smiled, and nodded to the Commando. "Wrund hasn't arrived yet. Shinaga's forces are making sure he doesn't have the opportunity to cheat," Naleena said. "As to why I chose you? You're smart, fast, agile, stubborn, and are the best trained of the lot. You may not like me, but there is no one I'd rather have fight by my side.

"I have a basic strategy idea I'd like to run by you. If you have any criticism of it, do not hold back. Our lives depend on it. If you have a better idea I'll listen. I'll hit Wrund with a dark channel to keep him off us for a while. Then we take out his Krannt. I can use my warp and stasis to set up your charges or detonate your lift grenades. We'll coordinate these via comm. I'll keep an eye on Wrund, and reapply it as necessary until his Krannt is dead. Then we take on Wrund. I'll save my Flare for emergencies. It is fatiguing.

"I have frags and smoke grenades, and this...," Naleena showed Jenus the torque bow. "It fires slow enough so as not to trigger the automatic barrier and will stick to armor before it detonates. So comments? Questions?"

Jenus glanced at Naleena without saying anything immediately.  She didn't like being asked questions and she didn't understand why she was being consulted.  Jenus would have felt better if Naleena had kept to ordering her around, but the two of them were about to face off against krogan, and there wasn't room for doubt with the one person who'd be standing next to her when she'd be facing death.

So, Jenus shook her head for starters, meaning she had nothing to add.  There was a brief, sidelong look at the krogan, before Jenus took the Yautja spear and planted it haft first into the dirt (the spike at the opposite end of the bladed tip made entry easy).  With her hands free, Jenus stepped in front of Naleena, drew her Disciple from her back holster and then next drew the Carnifex newly added to her arsenal.  Each, in turn, she removed the ammo block from, so that only Naleena could examine them.

The Carnifex had armor piercing ammo.  The Disciple was loaded with cryo.

"It's not my normal loadout," Jenus said quietly to Naleena, "But I think this is what will work with what I'm up to.  The spear may be for show, maybe not, I have this feeling I can't shake that I need it here with me, though.

"There are no big plans on my part, just that typical hit and run if you know about Commando vanguards.  I happen to do it well, is all, very well.  I can be fast, I can watch you and read your signals.  When you use your biotics, you'll give me cues, with your breathing, or your shouts.  I'll pick up on them and know what's coming next as you fight.  Don't slow down on account of me, don't wait, or hold back.  Whatever you do, I can handle and I'm not trying to talk myself up.  Go as hard and fast as you can.  If you don't believe me, you can ask Mira."

"Then let's kick some ass." Naleena said and noticed a Tomkah driving into the opposite side of the square. "Looks like they've arrived." She motioned to Jenus to take cover, cloaked and took up a position on the opposite side of the square.

Wrund Duel (JB, Kel, & SJ)

Wrund and his Krannt exited the Tomkah and entered what appeared to be an empty City Square. "Typical squidhead cowards! They call a blood duel and don't bother to show up. I claim victory. Come on. Let's go."

Kragg sniffed the air, shook his head, and drew his Graal Spikethrower.

Naleena on the opposite side of the square from a corner perch lined up a shot on Kragg with her Black Widow on maximum zoom aiming for a head shot. She fired two rapid rounds, the first absorbed by his shield, the second deflected off his Spikethrower, shattered into several pieces most lodging in his plate but one lodged in his left eye. Wrund immediately drew his revenant and ran around the center to his left firing at Naleena's position. She jumped down and rolled behind a concrete barrier waiting for Wrund to become more exposed. Wrund in his zeal only heard the shots and had not paid attention to Kragg's wound and left him isolated.

Wrund snarled as he fired off his rounds off, reaching down to activate one of his incendiary grenades and tossing it towards Naleena's position. Wrund went towards one of the buildings, making his way inside to try and keep himself out of cover.

Kragg reached up towards his eye, shaking his head as he got down and ran forward, covering the distance quickly as he was surrounded by the Foucault currents of his fortification. He charged up his spike thrower, shouldering his way through one of the buildings walls as if it were nothing.

The incendiary hit the ground in front of the barricade behind which Naleena was hiding. The fact that it did not detonate immediately told her what it was. She had four seconds, and she sprinted out of the area toward Jenus' position and ducked in behind another concrete barrier just as the white phosphorus detonated and splattered in the area she'd been in, her biotic dash buying her the precious half-second as a glob of the hot material landed a mere two meters from her.

The approach of the two Krogan was faster than their size would have someone think.  Jenus had been moving around to flank when Naleena's dodge had the Spectre headed her way.  Like a spring, Jenus took off, no guns drawn but the Yautja spear in one hand.  She left a present for Naleena, though, just in case she might need it; one of her lift grenades.

Attempting to purposely distract the Krogan, Jenus sprinted up to the second level of the surrounded ruined buildings, slipping through them with athletic ease, but leaving a visible glimpse of herself here and there to tempt the enemy into firing.  For extra measure, Jenus drew her Carnifex while she ran, and fired two shots into Kragg.  Despite their armor piercing ammo, the lack of accuracy had the rounds halt at the Krogan’s fortification.

"I can't take you seriously," Jenus taunted and laughed. "You showed up to play instead of fight?  Let me know when you want to get started and I'll actually make an effort!"

As she sprinted across a rooftop, Jenus deftly holstered her pistol in one motion, while in the second she unhooked and lobbed a smooth sphere towards Kragg.  He saw the grenade airborne, heading towards him, in an easy, slow arc.

Kragg grunted after hearing Jenus' effective taunt and moved to get an angle for a shot at her only to see the grenade too late. He tried to get out of the way. The grenade detonated lifting him into the air. Naleena unleashed a warp at him detonating the biotic field, slamming him against the wall of the building. Having betrayed her position, she stayed low, carrying her Black Widow, and moved to Jenus' original position where she noticed the lift grenade on the ground. She picked it up and clipped it on her armor.

Wrund was hiding in the entrance of a building on the far side of the square watching his Krannt being beaten about and was preparing to come to his aid. Naleena saw him, focused her energy again, and hit him with a dark channel.

"That should keep Wrund back for a while," she said over her comm. "Watch out for some suppressing fire from across the way. I'll give him something to think about. Let me know if you see him try to move."

Naleena cloaked, moved across to the inner part of the square, propped her rifle on the barrier and aimed at Wrund. He moved back inside at the last second just as she fired and her shots hit the concrete of the building causing him to duck behind.

Wrund snarled as he ducked back into the building, seeing Kragg starting to get up even as a few bits of his armor fell in small cracked pieces from the biotic attack. He smirked to himself, knowing he'd picked the right Krogan for this. Kragg was a decent fighter, but he was built like a tank, and could take a beating most Krogan would call lethal. He

He should know. When he first lost his arm, Kragg was the only one with him to also make it out shrugging off the bombings like it had been nothing.

Wrund looked down at himself, making sure the painful aura of the dark channel was off of him before he held out his arm. 'I need a bigger gun.' he thought to himself as he held his revenant in his other hand, 'And I know where to get it.'

He sprinted out, deploying his shield at the last moment to catch the widow round from Naleena. It stumbled him a bit, but not enough for him to slow down as he leveled his revenant and began to fire it towards where Naleena had been, spraying and praying as he headed for the Tomkah, aiming to get inside and use its guns in this fight.

Rules be damned, and Honor be damned. The only thing that mattered was survival. "Just have to win." he said to himself as he came to the door of the Tomkah, reaching for the hatch.

Kragg meanwhile pulled himself free of the wall, shaking his head as he snarled and let out a roar of anger. Kragg's eye rolled into the back of his head, coming out fully dilated as he activated his incendiary ammo, blind firing at the roof where jenus had been and setting it ablaze before his eyes scanned the area, reaching down for something.

Jenus had only the sound of a loud grunt before a large chunk of debris came flying next to her position, crashing through a wall as Kragg ran forward towards the building, the sound of wall smashing and heavy footsteps coming up the stairs echoing through the ruin as he approached, fully in his berserker mode as he focused on killing the Asari in front of him, Wrund practically forgotten.

On board the Medusa

It had been a while for Babe, but Babe wasn't getting off that cannon.

The silence had not gone unnoticed by the bridge, or those observing her in the hangar.  There Babe sat, only occasionally looking back to make sure that all was well with the cannon, before she stared at the firing panel in front of her.  Babe's finger, in fact, was still hovering over the trigger.

"Come...on."

Those words were all that broke Babe's silence.  A single bead of sweat travelled down her forehead and the blade of her nose.

Babe waited.

Wrund Fight (Kel & SJ)

A city designed for krogan didn't have a need for many tall buildings, with the exception of com towers and such, and Garvug's dwellings were typical of their kind.  That's why Jenus found ample running room across wide, sturdy rooftops that had survived much of the fighting, and yet maintained a good range to the ground.  It was also why it didn't take long for a blood raging Kragg to reach those rooftop and charge after her.

There was another lift grenade thrown, in another easy arc, off target enough for Kragg to avoid.  It seemed like a desperate attempt on behalf of the asari who was losing steady ground.  Eventually, Kragg would catch up to Jenus and he'd pin her against one of the life support unit housings, chase her off the rooftop, or if need be, jump down after her and crush her with his immense strength and weight.  A blood raged krogan wasn't about to tire anytime soon, and though the asari could be masters at evasion, in this city, places to flee would run out.  The asari watched him with her dark eyes in what Kragg could only read as fear.  That fear gave him a carnivorous satisfaction and he chased her with even greater strides.

If Kragg wasn't so overtaken by his rage, he might have sensed more to Jenus' expression.

Jenus was no mathematician, and yet she was making calculations that came naturally to her, as a veteran of decades of training and warfare.  A blood raged krogan was nothing short of fatal, near impossible to stop despite his straightforward nature and yet that was exactly what Jenus wanted.  To know what kragg would do was far more important to the kind of warrior Jenus was than to dread the thundering juggernaut's nigh unstoppable charge.  Her grenade toss had been where she wanted, ensuring Kragg would veer just so.  And while one had to question her strange insistence on using the Disciple as her go to shotgun of choice, particularly in this combat, she had a plan.

The Disciple was light, generally accurate, and in Jenus' case, able to be fired with one hand in a pinch.  Particularly if that accuracy didn't matter as much because your enemy was krogan sized and wanted to get close.  So Jenus drew her Disciple in her dominant hand, while keeping the spear in the other, and fired off a blast.

Kragg was hit with the block shavings of the Disciple, which mostly had the result of stinging him only through his fortification, armor and tough hide.  He was only distantly aware of a crystallization that began to cover him and sense a drop in temperature.  Instinctively, Kragg held down the trigger on his Graal, forgetting that it had been shattered by Naleena, and that he simply hadn't let go of the remnants of the spike thrower.

"You think your toy gun is going to stop me?!"  Kragg screamed while throwing away the Graal. "I'm going to rip your face off and wear it on my shoulder pad!"

Jenus was retreating quickly, quite remarkably athletic given the debris strewn rooftop and the fact that she was jogging backwards.  She pulled the trigger on the Disciple thrice more, each time stacking the effect of her cryo ammo on Kragg.   The krogan howled as the crystallization overtook his entire form, covering him in what seemed a bitter frost.  There was no doubt, despite the protection, that some part of that ammo had broken through to skin and would have seized Kragg completely in a chill petrification if he hadn't been krogan.  But Kragg came on, slower enough in stride, but not slow enough to be avoided.

There was no time to reload and fire again, and Jenus, in fact, had come to a roof edge with nowhere else to go but off the side and down.  She dropped the Disciple and fumbled a lift grenade in the process at her feet.  She could have jumped off, her asari ability to feather fall saving her descent, but likely not saving her from Kragg who could handle the fall and leapt off after her.  So Jenus grabbed her Yautja spear with both hands and prepared to receive her raging enemy.

When Wrund returned to the Tomkah to get new weapons he committed a serious breach of the rules. Naleena could now claim victory, but there was another far more serious matter at hand. Jenus' life.

The raging Krogan now slowed by Jenus' cryo rounds needed some further weakening. The shots would have to be precise. The assassin was not unfamiliar with this type of situation. Her shots had to avoid hitting her comrade, yet cause the Krogan to stumble. With her sniper rifle aimed at Kragg, she took a deep breath, held it and tracked him as he charged. Movements around her slowed to a crawl, her concentration so deep that the Krogan appeared to float almost gracefully in the air between steps. Seeing his fortification field start to dissipate, she fired two rapid shots that struck him in the left knee and knocked him off balance. His forward momentum and partially frozen condition kept him from recovering and sent him reeling out of control toward the awaiting spear.

In the fractions of seconds before Kragg impaled himself on the Yautja spear, Jenus didn't have time to smile outwardly.  Yet in her mind she was grinning broadly.  Krogan anatomy would have been a tough study for her if she hadn't had such an interest in its utility, and the result was Kragg being pierced straight through fortification, armor, hide, a lung and his primary heart.  The spearhead didn't stop until it hit the inside of the back of the krogan's armor.  And the crystallization, still coursing over Kragg, seeped into the puncture, through the wound to invade his body.

But anatomy and a good shot didn't teach Jenus about how exactly determined a blood raged, taunted, dying krogan with nothing left to lose could be.  Any other known sentient species in the galaxy would have been slain in an instant from the sheer physics anyway, but a redundant organ krogan with adrenaline overriding his pain had ways of getting past that too.  At least for the last critical moments he needed to rip his enemy limb from limb.

Jenus' spear could hold the weight of more than even a krogan, cut from the jungle homeworld of the Yautja, but it did bow enough so that Kragg caught Jenus' arm.  Pain shot through her as Kragg's clawed hand dug deep.  Then a follow-up fist found her face as she was forced to let go of the spear.  It was only because of her martial training and her own biotic shield that she wasn't rendered immediately unconscious.  At the rooftop's edge, an impaled Kragg let go and back fisted Jenus.  It had all his strength, in spite of the cryo freezing beginning to break Kragg's insides like shattering ice.  The back fist might have been the final, deadly blow if something else didn't happen at the same instant of impact.  Something rather unexpected.

The lift grenade Jenus dropped went off.

It had been Jenus' backup plan, and it would end up saving her life.  She'd faked the fumble, meant to catch only Kragg in it's biotic forces.  As it turned out, both Jenus and Kragg were swept up in its gravity defying energies, but although the same energies took their toll applying a crushing force to those helpless levitating souls caught in their radius, Jenus had a benefit in being pushed away from Kragg by the back fist.  That fist had just barely struck in time to repel her, but lost all of its follow through strength.

Naleena witnessed the two hurtling skyward, but whereas Kragg was out of control, dying from wound, lift energies, and cryo, Jenus withstood the damage of the grenade with her barrier, and floated with practiced maneuvers.  Probably Kragg would have died as the lift energies faded, dropping a good two stories to the street, a frozen body fissuring on impact.  But Naleena spotted a look in Jenus' eyes that showed the Commando had no intention of waiting.  Jenus positioned herself like a being meant to fly, shone with blue energy, and biotically charged Kragg through the air.
The impact, combined with the ensuing biotic explosion, blew Kragg apart into countless, frozen pieces of meat and armor fragments.  Jenus landed on the ground, and caught the Yautja spear which had somehow survived the explosion.  Naleena saw her favor the arm that hadn't been grabbed, and Jenus leaned heavily on the spear, but the brazen Commando threw her a wink before she coughed up a mouthful of purple blood.

Naleena's eyes sparkled and she shot a big grin at Jenus. Then she saw the purple blood, took a vial of Medi-gel from inside her coat and dashed to her comrade.

She scanned Jenus and found the source of the bleeding. "I've never seen anything like that in my life," she said as she was quickly unfastening the commando's armor. "You are something else.... This will sting a bit." Naleena shoved the Medi-gel syringe into the injured tissue and injected the solution. Then used her rapid dexterity to fasten the armor.

"You've done your job. Hang back and use your pistol," she said, and got a killer look in her eyes as she caught a glimpse of Wrund's Tomkah moving. "My turn."

Wrund Battle (Jen, Kel, & SJ)

Wrund activated the Tomkah’s controls, flicking its main gun to life as it moved, the camera feed from its archaic feed showing in an infrared view and normal view via two different monitors.

"Doesn't matter how I win. As long as they die, it counts.." he laughed to himself, glad they two had picked a faraway area for this battle. Krogan duels would never have allowed this kind of cowardice, but this wasn’t a duel between Krogan.

He spotted heat spots, figuring that it could be either the Asari or Kragg. He took a minute to weigh his options before smirking,

"Sorry, Kragg. Nothing personal." He said before he fired, the large gun ripping through the roof of one of the buildings, where Kragg’s incindeary rounds were still smoldering and away from Jenus’ and Naleena’s current position.

As the building collapsed, Wrund waited for the heavy shell to cycle through. It took 10 seconds, and Wrund was slamming the console impatiently, "Work faster, damn you!"

All the while the tanks rear remained exposed, lacking the 2 or 3 other Krogan crewmembers to man the tank and keep it properly defended.

Naleena knew Jenus' mobility was now compromised. She didn't want her vanguard injured any more than she already was. She needed to distract Wrund. She cloaked and ran around the barriers into the center of the square. Wrund was too occupied getting the shell loaded. Then she leaped over the wall and into the building where Wrund had been hiding. She drew the torque bow, aimed at the vulnerable rear of the Tomkah and fired.

The bolt containing a high explosive charge stuck to the rear of the tank's engine compartment and detonated. The computer system inside the Tomkah showed Wrund the location from where the shot was fired. Naleena immediately left the building and circled directly behind the vehicle.

She got on her communicator. "VERA put this on Krogan comm channels."

"I can only reach military channels, Boss."

"Good enough.... Wrund, you cheating varren. You have dishonored Clan Haliot. In accordance with the old rules of the blood duel, I, Spectre T'sarius claim victory," Naleena said. "There is one way you can restore honor to your clan. Surrender and I promise your death will be swift and merciful."

Wrund saw the warning signals, but was frozen as he heard the Spectre’s broadcast over the Tomkah’s own comm system.

He shook in place, bringing a quivering hand up to his head as he looked down, the Tomkah’s blown engine filling the tank with smoke.

Then he smiled, snickering before turning into full blown laughter. The manic laughing continued as Wrund kicked his way out of the Tomkah, aiming his revenant and emptying the clip into the building.

"You...you think you're smart, aren't you...you think you can do this to me!?" He asked shaking, his eyes darting around and a quivering smile on his face. Everything was crumbling, all of his work and dealings, after everything he'd done. And it was all because of one puny Asari, who had managed to turn everything against him.

The deep end was long gone for Wrund. All that mattered now was revenge.

"I Am Hailot Wrund! I own this world and everything on it!! And you're gonna die here, even if I gotta kill my whole clan to do it!!" He screamed as he saw Naleena out of the corner of his eye, firing off a carnage blast before raising his arm.

The mechanisms groaned a bit, but the metal shield deployed from his prosthetic arm. Lighter than the ones the blackguard used but just as durable, he charged forward like a deranged footballer, plowing through the wall as he looked around.

"Heh ha ha ha ha ha...HA HA HA HA HA.." he laughed as he backed out of the building as he looked around crazily, arm listing to the side from his cumbersome shield, "You think you win? WHO CARES WHO WINS!? All I need to do is kill you!!! ILL KILL YOU AND EVERYONE WHO SAYS OTHERWISE!!! Honor doesn't mean ****!!! Its only about who lives, and who dies...so Die...DIE...DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE!!!!!!" He screamed as he fired off another carnage blast, then another, paranoid at every shadow and noise around him, and going into a panic.

Naleena ducked behind cover. She'd successfully provoked the Krogan into a state where he was coming at her crazy. But before she could take him down, she needed to eliminate the shield he held on his arm. When held at the correct angle, they could deflect her strongest biotic attacks save for one: the lingering weakening dark channel that attacks matter over time at the molecular level. Focusing her mind, Naleena sent the bright green field from her hand slamming into Wrund and enveloping him. Wrund felt his feet become leaden, and his gun felt heavier in his hand.

She knew he would aim it in her direction, but he was slowed and she rolled to her right, diving behind another barrier and prepared another bolt in the torque bow.

Wrund swore in a Krogan dialect that wasn't on the translator, but Naleena knew it was an insult. He fired at her previous position and where he thought she might be. Chunks of concrete shattered and fell on top of the Spectre. Then Wrund paused for a second to look, holding his shield in front of him.

Naleena aimed the torque bow and shot the bolt. It struck home on the shield and detonated. The shield appeared to hold. She cloaked and ran into the center of the square and hid behind the statue of Shiagur.

Wrund laughed. "You'll need more than that, Spectre!" he shouted and blasted the barricade where she was with his revenant. He had to stop and reload his thermal clips.

Naleena saw the dark channel dissipate. She reapplied it.

Back where Jenus had been left, she was sitting and leaning against the corner of the building she'd landed near, while watching Naleena.  Jenus was pretty sure her arm one arm was broken, though the medi-gel assisted and the inner layer of her Commando leathers had hardened like a cast around the injury.  The medi-gel had helped with the damage from Kragg's fists as well, though there was something that didn't quite feel right about the way she was breathing.  It led the Commando to listen to Naleena for the first time, really, with no argument.  That lasted until when she saw Wrund come out, Revenant blazing, and closing in on Naleena's position behind the barricade.

Naleena needed a break, something to give her a moment.  The dark channel was weakening the structure of Wrund's shield, but if Jenus shot it with the armor piercing rounds of her Carnifex, they'd pass through it without wrecking the shield, and that's what needed to happen.  Something with a lot more weight behind it was needed.  Jenus dropped the pistol, lifted herself despite her state, and grabbed the spear.

Like a peltast, Jenus ran at Hailot and hurled the massive Yautja spear.  His attention drawn elsewhere, Jenus was able to make the most surprise, and the throw was no ordinary throw.  Not only did Jenus hurl the spear with all her strength, but used whatever biotics she could focus to send the weapon with supernatural velocity.  There was the sound of a thunderclap as the Yautja spear impacted with Wrund's shield and blew it apart, fragmenting it into uselessness.

It was a victory in one sense but the shield had served its last purpose in stopping the spear from going any further.  Jenus fell forward on her hands and knees, out in the open, and watched as the Yautja spear clattered to the ground.  Haliot Wrund had a clear shot at her and she couldn't save herself.  She heaved, some purple blood coating her teeth from a reopened cut in her mouth.

Losing the shield stunned the Krogan and bought Jenus a precious few seconds. There was no time to waste. She hastily fired the torque bow, but it missed and hit a support column behind Wrund. The explosion caused him to flinch and move to his right nearer to the burning Tomkah but more out in the open.

Naleena dropped the torque bow, pulled the lift grenade from her belt and tossed it on a high arc in the direction of Wrund. She watched it as it reached its apex. When it did she stepped out from behind her cover and focused. Wrund, completely enraged, had his Revenant held vertical and began to lower it in her direction. Her aura glowed a bright blue as her biotic energy built. She waited. The grenade landed and detonated lifting Wrund in the air and separated him from his machine gun. Naleena raised her hands and made a throwing motion toward the floating Krogan. The blue energy, far more dense than any warp bomb, left her hands tracking her target and impacted, detonating with a thunder clap, sending Wrund’s Revenant into the upper level of one of the buildings.

Wrund fell to the ground, coughing and bleeding from his mouth. He was in agony. The compound biotic explosion detonated by the Flare crushed one of his two hearts, collapsed one of his four lungs, and crushed half his quad.

Naleena bent over with her hands on her knees catching her breath for a moment, and looked over at her comrade. She smiled at the commando and approached her.

“It was good to fight alongside you,” Naleena said and helped Jenus to her feet. “You fight like no one I’ve ever seen. You would have made my grandmother proud. Now let’s see what this varren has to say for himself.”

The two Asari walked toward the critically wounded Krogan and stopped when they were standing over him.

-A Battle Between Honor And Humanity-

The blackguard were combing through what was left of the Sonax base, a small semi-circle of survivors brought into the center square being held down by the krogan forces as Ganar Slayt stood in front of them, his chainsaw gun-sword at the ready as he looked at the survivors.

"Each of you are guilty of great crimes against the Krogan People. You've bombed their homes, invaded their world, and all of it...for this." Slayt said as he held up a single large stone, the greyish silvery rock a chunk of nickel as he looked to the humans, "These rocks full of different metals, including Iridium...your peoples greed truly knows no bounds, doesn't it?" he asked as he clenched his fist, the metallic rock crumbling in his grasp as he motioned to some of his men.

"Well then...if you want it so badly that you'd kill for it...we're going to give it to you..." As he spoke, as the sound of an engine drew their attentions, a haul truck full of unprocessed and raw mined nickel and copper being brought forward as some of the men realized what was going to happen, "May this grave of minerals satisfy your appetites..." he said as he truck came to a stop, getting ready to dump its content on-top of the survivors and literally bury them alive.

That was when one of the Tomkah's came revving onto the scene, Ganar Slayt and the others turning to see what was happening as the doors opened and a none other then Ganar Shinaga emerged, hammer in her hand as she stepped down off the tomkah.

"You...what are you doing here, Shinaga?" Slayt questioned as he began to approach his daughter, "Has something happened to the tower?" Slayt questioned, narrowing his eyes when Shinaga didn't respond right away. He came to stand in front of her, glaring as he spoke, "You need to start answering me now, Shinaga...why are you here?" He asked.

Finally, shinaga looked up to her fathers eyes, "You plan on giving the Blackguard over to Jarg...don't you?" She asked, ganar slayt blinking in surprise as he took a step back.

"You...how did you..." he growled, before taking a large step forward, reaching for her shoulders as he raised his voice, "Who told you that?" He demanded, only for shinaga to take a step back.

"You..." She said, a hurt look in her eyes as she got all she needed from his reaction, steeling herself as she pointed to him, "Ganar Slayt! I challenge you for leadership of the Blackguard! On the charge of Dishonoring our Sacred Band by allying us with Warlord Hailot Wrund! A krogan declared for all to hear as not even worth killing!" She said, slayt snarling and stalking towards her as she continued, "Your alliance has brought our forces down! And I demand you answer for your crimes!"

That was when Ganar Slayt grabbed her by the neck, rearing an arm back to pummel her when a shot rang out. Slayt backed off and looked towards the tomkah, the shot having just missed his foot as out stepped Vayne, shotgun in hand as he loaded in another bullet to the double barrel, "That was a warning shot. You want to fight her? You do it like a real krogan should!" he shouted.

Slayt looked towards vayne, eyes going wide as he whispered to himself, "You...you brought the murder here?" He said as he looked to Shinaga, only to see her giving him the same intense anger he'd shown her moments ago. "Blackguard! Kill that child Killer! Kill them both!" he barked out, though none of his men moved. Slayt turned to look to the others as one of them spoke up.

"Warboss...the challenges been issued." One of them said, Slayt realizing what this meant as he growled and looked towards his daughter and vayne.

"...So, you pick this vagabound as your krantt. You disgust me, Shinaga..." Slayt said as he looked back to hiss men, "Jurdon Orsz! Come forward." Slayt said as one of the krogan in his division stepped forward, bowing on his knee as Slayt nodded.

Vayne looked towards Shinaga, looking a bit worried as he held his gun close to him, "You sure you got this covered?" Vayne asked as he looked between Slayt and Orsz.

"I'll handle my father. You just keep his second off my back." She said as she sized up the odds.

Jurdon Orsz held his weapons of choice, in one hand an executioner pistol, and in the other, a massive meat claver looking machete, as long as a longsword as he rested the blade on his shoulder. Ganar Slayt held up his Chain-Sword-Gun, revving its engine loudly as Shinaga activated the electricity in her hammer, and Vayne felt more and more like he'd brought the wrong kind of weapon to this fight.

The 4 took 10 paces from one another, and when the moment came, both charged forward to do battle.

Wrund (JB, Kel, SJ)

Wrund's vision blurred and his hearing slowly returned to him as he felt pure agony coursing through his broken body. The Krogan looked towards the two, one of his eyes now an empty socket dripping blood, with fear as he tried to pull himself away.

"I...I..." He began, coughing up blood as he now realized his current situation. He was done for like this, no weapon and no way of defending himself. But there was one thing he could try.

"I give up...You two...you win. T-there's no need to keep fighting here..." As he spoke, the two kept approaching, and Wrund began to sweat a bit more as he looked between the two, "Y-you can let me live as a prisoner...I've got information...r-resources..."

"I know things! Things about a f-few projects the Batarians are up to! G-genetic research. The council will want to hear all about it!" He said, growing more and more desperate as he tried to drag himself away weakly, "O-Or the terminus systems! A lot of traffic comes through here! You Spectres care about that sort of thing. Y-y-you're not the kind of people to take things personal, aren't you? No, a Spectre would have to keep things from getting personal. Always looking out for things the Council needs! You won't kill me...you wouldn't...kill me..." He began, eye going wide as he looked towards Naleena’s face, vision blurring so he couldn't make out the expression.

"I can get you credits! I can get you resources! I...I'm more valuable alive than dead to you! I can help you...So don't...so d-don't...don't...." He began, voice cracking as he raised an arm up in front of his face, bracing himself as a bit of tears mixed with the blood running from his face.

"Please don't kill me..." he said in a whimper, shaking as the two came to rest right in front of the Krogan.

Jenus stared at Hailot Wrund in disbelief, never imagining she'd find a cowering, pleading Krogan in her life.  She then glanced towards Naleena, unsure if Wrund was all theater and planning to spring some sort of unforeseen trap.  It was hard for the Asari to even conceive what she'd heard come out of the Krogan’s maw.

Naleena glanced over at Jenus, then down at the Krogan. "The Batarian's doing genetic research?" she laughed and shook her head. "Wrund....

"You had an opportunity when I first came here. You were in a bind with Sonax, Guanghui, and Binary Helix all vying for control of the planet. At the time, your planet. They installed a government that would be compliant to their needs. You had a Prothean Artifact. You asked me to negotiate for you. You could have petitioned the Council to become a Council world, making you eligible for protection. Your petition would have been granted months ago and you would have spared your people this," she said and gestured to the destruction. "Instead you chose to throw away that opportunity for your own petty ambitions and where has it brought you? It has brought you here, groveling for your life."

Naleena's tone turned sarcastic. "You think you have saved your people? You think you drove Sonax from this world? Yes, you brought the Bloodpack here and put on a big show. Yes, Sonax withdrew their forces," she said leaned toward him. "But while they were doing that, Sonax deployed satellites. They told the galactic news it was defensive system. No one questioned it. But why would they deploy a defensive system when they were leaving? Because it isn't defensive. They plan to destroy your army and your city from orbit, then return and take the iridium.

"I could have protected your people. I could have protected you. But now it's too late to do anything. I will do what I can for your people, but one ship cannot stop what is coming," she sighed.

Naleena paused for a moment before continuing and pointed with her finger. "What is even more pathetic is that you are willing to sell out your species for what remains of your life," she said and drew a circle in the air with her finger. "The genetic research you mentioned put all the pieces of the puzzle into place. I now know why you gambled with the lives of your people. It explains the presence of the Batarian frigate the last time we were here. The Batarians had offered you an alliance against the Council in exchange for a cure for the genophage. But you should know The Council heard rumors of such research and investigated.

“I know for a fact that the facility and the research do not exist. You were duped as part of their proxy war against the Council. The Salarians devised the cure so that it cannot be reversed. Hailot Wrund, you are truly not worth killing."

With that she turned to Jenus. "Let's go."

Jenus and Naleena walked back through the war torn square toward the awaiting Tomkah. Jenus appeared to be holding her side a bit. Wrund could be heard pleading. "No! Not like this.... You can't leave me like this...."

As they approached the Tomkah, Naleena received a call from the ship. It was VERA.

".... Of course.... Yes, VERA.... I understand.... T'sarius out."

"What was that about?" Jenus asked while continuing to hear Wrund whining in the background.

"Apparently Babe has had a spent drive core rod loaded in one of the guns on the Medusa... the one she used to take out the A-A battery and allowed our shuttles to land. She's had her hand on the trigger mechanism for the past several hours and it's beginning to cramp," Naleena said, unclipped the laser targeting gun from her leg and offered it to Jenus. "Why don't you put that wretch out of his misery? It's for Babe."

Jenus took the targeting device from Naleena. “With pleasure.”

Jenus aimed the device, painting the red dot on Wrund until she got a locking tone. VERA sent the signal to the Medusa.

////////

Aboard the Medusa, nervous perspiration had soaked Babe’s clothing. She wiped her forehead one last time. “Come on…. Come on…,” she kept repeating. Then the signal came from VERA.

“Finally!” Babe said, and made the final adjustments, aiming the gun to match the targeting vector supplied by VERA and hit the trigger mechanism, firing the gun.

////////

Naleena helped Jenus into the Tomkah and strapped her in, sat across from her, and turned to the driver. “Get us out of here, now.”

“But you need to kill, Wrund before the duel is over,” the driver replied.

“His death is on its way. Now get us out of here unless you want to be reduced to ash along with him.”

The Krogan turned the Tomkah in the opposite direction and gunned it to its top speed over the rough terrain at about 50 kph. It was going to be tight.

The rod entered the atmosphere and lit up the sky overhead as it descended like a meteor toward its target below. Wrund, still whining about his fate, saw his shadow sharpen against the ground. He stopped and looked up. The rod impacted the ground with a flash that shot straight up in the air, incinerating everything within a 50 meter radius, followed immediately with the characteristic “whumpf!” of the seismic event that followed, liquefying the ground and lifting it seemingly in plates. The shockwave went out in a circle from the impact rolling the ground as it dissipated with distance. The ruins in the immediate area of the wave crumbled to the ground. Naleena, Jenus and the Krogan driving heard the explosion a mere second before the Tomkah was lifted a meter into the air by the ground wave, landed and skidded to a stop as the driver regained control.

“That’s what I call a ground pounder!” the driver said.

“Are we clear?” Naleena asked.

The driver checked the VI for any activity. “We’re clear.”

Jenus was strong and she'd been toughing it out. But Naleena had noticed Jenus wasn’t doing as well as she'd been trying to act, and hit her communicator. “VERA, lock in on my coordinates and send Sergeant Ferro here with a medical team to pick up Sergeant Stasia. Have Med-Bay standing by.”

"Copy that, Boss."

"I've never seen anyone fight like you. You saved my life back there when you took down his shield. I won't forget that," Naleena said. "Now we need to get your injuries looked at."

-A Battle Between Honor And Humanity Part 2-

The 4 krogan charged at one another all at once, Father against Daughter, Stranger against Stranger, and as each clashed the thunderous explosion in the distance did little to distract the 4, if anything, it only made the moment all too real.

Orsz was the fastest to strike, firing his bloodpack pistol at Vayne as the older krogan hit the deck, going prone with shotgun in hand as he leveled it towards his opponent. He laid on his belly and fired, Orsz's shields rippling from the impact and armor sparking as the krogan charged ahead, cleaver dragged on the ground as he run full sprint towards Vayne.

"Ah ****." Vayne said as he got on his elbows and knees, pushing himself back up just as Orsz brought the cleaver swinging down to where vayne had just been, avoiding being cut in half as vayne leveled the shotgun and fired again. Orsz moved the massive hunk of metal he used as a melee weapon, turning its massive broadside to cover himself just as the bullets pounded into the blade. Orsz grunted as some of the spray went into his shoulder, collapsing his shields.

Vayne tried to reload, only for the other krogan to already start moving, Vayne's eye going wide as he leapt back and narrowly avoided getting sliced, cracking open his double barrel as he then had to leap once more, another slash from Orsz, then another.

'He's going in close to keep me from reloading!?' Vayne thought as he was forced to back-peddle and work on trying to reload, Orsz smiling like a madman as he kept swinging his sword, each swinging accompanied by him taking another giant step forward, always a few inches from catching vayne as he kept the pressure on.

Shinaga ran forward, swinging her hammer with full force as her father swung his massive chainsaw sword gun, the two colliding as a surge of electricity crackled through the air, the shocks of the ground and cloud forming in the distance punctuated by the sound of metal against metal. Slayt held his own, the blades of his chainsaw bitting against Shinaga's hammer as he towered over her. Slayt looked down at her, his breathing mask obscuring his face as he suddenly turned his blade, it's tip pointed towards her as she broke off her attack, narrowly missing his Claymore shotgun firing a crater where she'd been standing.

Slayt sliced his gunblade as if to flick off blood, raising his omnitool as the familiar shimmer of a fortification came online, Shinaga mirroring his move with a fortification of her own, and the two began to circle one another as Slayt looked down at his daughter.

"You were my flesh and my blood, Shinaga. What was it that made you so happy to abandon your duty to me? To your clan?" Slayt questioned as Shinaga flicked her wrist, a blue shimmer enveloping her hammer as she glared at her father, "This alliance you're doing everything to stop could ensure our survival. Is the only thing that could have saved our clan. And you threw it aside, for pride."

"The only prideful one here you..." Shinaga retorted, digging her legs into the ground as she gathered up her strength, "Deciding the entire fate of our clan. Deeming what is and isn't a noble sacrifice on a whim...You're the only threat we face. And I'm going to stop you..." A blue shimmer later, and Shinaga herself was zooming towards Slayt at full speed, the Biotic Charge slamming hard against the Elder Krogan as he stumbled back.

Shinaga wasn't done, lifting her hammer and slamming it into the ground, the pulse of biotic energy knocking Slayt back even more as she ran forward and turned on her heel, slamming it square across his face and sending him to the ground. Shinaga was breathing heavy, but she shook her head as she looked to her kneeling father.

"That...was for even having the quad, to try and make me one of Wrund's females..." She said coldly as she approached, Slayt activating his omnitool as his armors tubes glowed an unnatural color. "And this...this ones for brother." She said as she raised her hammer up.

Slayt was back on his feet in an instance, eyes wide and wild as he aimed his omnitool and fired off his ballistic blades, Shinaga taking them to her chest as she was slammed back, not expecting the speed from her own father as he followed it up with a quick flick of his wrist. His omnitool shifted to that of a flamethrower, the flamer shooting a jet of hot molten material at her as Shinaga raised her hammer to defend herself, backing away as her shields dropped.

Slayt stood, hyperventalating as he looked towards Shinaga, madness in the krogans eyes as he held up his omnitool, showing what he'd done. "Stimulant Packages. Courtesy of a few turians in our midst..." He said with a laugh as shinaga worked to bat away the flames on her armor. "Since you won't see reason...and you insist on such...disrespect of me." He said as he rolled his shoulders, his armor pumping with preformance enhancing drugs and military grade pain killers, with plenty of omnigel and medigel to keep him up and running.

"I guess there's just one thing left to do..." Slayt said, looking towards Shinaga as through his own drug induced berserker rage, two tears an down from his eyes, "I'll bury your remains next to Grimm's...you two will finally be together, forever."

With that, he revved up his chainsaw sword and charged forward, Shinaga aiming her omnitool and firing off a carnage aimed right for her father, the fiery blast doing nothing to slow him as he ran full sprint into her, slamming her to the ground as he pressed his blade against the shaft of her hammer, the blades grinding loudly against it as he pinned shinaga to the ground. Slayt looked down towards Shinaga, tears flowing as he began to pressed harder and harder against her weapon, Shinaga's eyes going wide as the blade began to get closer and closer, until finally it began to bite into her shoudler.

She felt it ripping into her, tearing at her flesh beneath as it ground through her shoulder-pad like paper, and screamed.

Vayne had just gotten another bullet into his shotgun when he heard the shout, turning his head to see the situation as he cocked his gun shut. "Shinaga!" he shouted, realzing the situation just as Orsz brought another heavy swing, this one knicking vayne's helmet and drawing blood as Orsz smirked, bringing the heavy cleaver to his mouth and licking up some of Vayne's blood. "Don't go losing your cool now, Old Man. Not unless you wanna die!" He said, before aiming his pistol at Vayne and firing off another one-shot.

Vayne got out of the way, bringing his shotgun up as he realized his predicament. One shot. He had one bullet loaded since fighting this freak. Orsz was doing what vayne had said he would, distracting their opponent and leaving the other one for a one on one. And shinaga, a good fighter that she was, wasn't going to last if she only had 1 arm to use.

He gulped and made his choice, seeing Orsz closing in on him as he aimed his shotgun towards his target, pulling the trigger as the swing came down.

Slayt let out a scream of surprise as he felt something hit his back, swinging wildly and letting off the pressure from Shinaga as he spun around to slice at whoever had attacked his back. The chemicals leaked slowly from his armor as the shotguns shot went in at just below the barriers triggering speed. Shinaga pulled herself up, taking the opportunity as she drew her brothers gun, aiming the sawed-off looking shotgun at her fathers back and firing. The thunderous boom and hiss of steam drowned out Slayt a moment, as he screamed in surprise and fell to a knee, the back of his armor penetrated as medigel filled in the wound. Yet the stagger gave her enough time to gather her strength and biotically charge her father, sending him shooting forward and going face-first into the dirt.

She turned to look at what had caused her the opening, and her eyes widened at what she saw. Orsz was standing in front of vayne, his cleaver buried into Vayne's right shoulder as Vayne gritted his teeth, his shotgun on the ground as his arm remained motionless at his side. The younger Jordan krogan smiled widely as he pulled his cleaver back, then pushed it forward, repeating the pattern and giggling to himself as Vayne let out a muffled cry of pain, sinking to his knee as he looked the younger krogan in the eyes.

"Gyah-Ha-Ha-Ha...you're a tough one, aren't you? What's wrong? Can't you feel my blades serration tearing into your skin and bone?" He asked as Vaynes eye rolled into the back of his head from the pain, "I hear you got pretty messed up fighting Grimm. That you can't go into a blood rage anymore? Guess that means all you can do is sit there and take it, doesn't it? Weeeee~eeeellllll? Doesn't Ii~iT?" He asked, streching out his word with each push and pull of the saw like cleaver.

"Can't talk, huh? Well, let's just put you out of your misery then, yeah?" Orsz said as he drew his gun, pressing it against vayne's temple as he looked down at the krogan, "Night, Night, Traitor. I'll be eating your organs when I go to Kruban, old m-" Vayne, who'd been staring into Orsz's eyes this whole time, smirked as he glanced down.

"You little kids..." He said, refering to the younger then 200 year old krogan as Orsz raised a brow, leaning closer as he finally saw what Vayne's left hand had been doing, the sawed-off shotgun in its grasp pressed against his foot, "...Talk way too much."

Vayne fired, Shinaga recognizing the sound immediately as Vayne used the bakara pistol, Orsz foot now gone and a bloody stump left in its place, no redundant organ to replace a lost limb. Orsz screamed out as Vayne brought the gun up, pistol whipping Orsz and holding the pistol towards his eyes as the jet of steam released, blinding the krogan as the hot jet of air burned him.

"AHHHHHHHHHHHH!! You Pyjack Waste! You shitty little traitor!" Orsz said as he covered his eyes, Vayne dropping his shotgun and reaching up to pull two of the grenades from his belt. "I'll Rip and Tear! Rip and Tear Your Gu-GYAAAGGHHH!!??!?" Orsz eye's went wide as Vayne shoved his arm into his screaming mouth, the grenade pins pulled as he ripped his arm back, taking a few of Orsz's teeth as the younger krogan fell to his knees, inches from vayne.

"I'll make this quick..." Vayne said simply as he tried to steady himself, the cleaver still buried in his arm as he glared at the now choking and soon to be dead Orsz, knowing he was in the radius and knowing there wasn't a way out, "Rest in Peace, you son of a ******."

Shinaga's biotic charge caught him off guard as she slammed into Orsz, sending the krogan flying before the grenades finally went off. The fiery explosion tore through the krogan, leaving nothing but a blown apart torso quickly burning to cinders. Vayne blinked, not having expected her to come and knock the krogan away as she turned to look at him.

Vayne looked down, grunting as he picked up the Bakara Pistol he'd used. He came back up to see Shinaga with his double barrel, handing it to him as he looked to her with surprise.

"You...you did well, back there." She said, not looking towards him as she felt the blood run down her own shoulder, "Stay there, and try not to bleed out..." She said, seeing her father getting back on his feet as he popped another stimulant pack, vayne cracking open the gun as the spent shell flew out and loading in two more.

"It's time to end this." She said as she charged up her hammer, vayne getting ready to cover her however he could in this state, as Slayt turned to look at the two, blood starting to run from his crest as he held his sword at the ready.

with Naleena

Jenus smiled meekly at Naleena, unusual in both its affinity and lack of energy.  After the smile faded, Jenus remained quiet, staring mostly ahead.  She knew something hadn't healed right and was going to make the trip back, but she felt her breaths short.

The order to drop the ordinance on Wrund satisfied Jenus' warrior heart.  She held onto the Yautja spear for comfort, and thought about things ahead.  It was strange for her, being alone with Naleena, without either Irina or any of her team mates around.  There were few reflective moments in Jenus' life, but for those few that there were, her father always came to mind, last and for the longest period of time.

onboard the Medusa

After Babe had fired, she nearly jumped out of her seat.  If it weren't for the release of all artificial gravity in the hangar bay, she wouldn't have restrained herself.  Instead, she stepped onto the deck with magnetic boot and watched Garvug with her naked eye.  There was no way Babe could see the impact, but she felt it had happened seconds ahead of the confirmation that the shot had been on target.

Babe made a fist and clenched her teeth in satisfaction.  Her arm, in fact, shook with delight, before she relaxed it again.  It took Dogger a second attempt to ask her over the com, "Closing the bay doors now, lass?" when Babe finally recovered from her state enough to remember the world around her and confirm the request with a nod.

While the hangar bay doors closed, artificial gravity slowly returned, and pressure was restored, Babe kept looking out at Garvug.  She didn't understand what gave her the rush of the kill.  It was like red meat for a carnivorous appetite.  But it also didn't feel like her.  Somewhere Babe tried to recall, going back to the time when she was known as Jocelyne, and her sister was Reine, what had happened that made it so.  Reine was so different.  But the pale blue eyes of her sister had a recognizable trait in them.  Without clear memory, Babe thought that she had resisted that trait whereas Reine had the wherewithal enough to follow its call.

But Reine was older.  And perhaps Reine wasn't ever given a choice.

Babe's hands went to her head.  She'd fired guns before, but this had been different.  Something about what she'd gone through on the Medusa  had awakened her to things she'd forgotten, and even more that wasn't there when it should have been as far as her memory was concerned.  There were two shadows forming, and she tried to distinguish them.  One was of a mother and the image was disturbing, but it was the second shadow that made her much more scared.  Someone who's skin was blue like an asari.  Or it was an asari...

"Are you all right?"

It was Serafina, the programmer.  She'd come into the bay to assist with the technical aspects of breaking down the gun and putting it back in its rightful place.  Behind her was the burly shape of Largo.  Both were in their normal attire, making Babe realize she'd been standing there through the entire recycling of the ship's environgment.

Babe made pretense that she'd been intending to remove her helmet with her hands.  She unfastened the yellow Survivors Suit helm and pulled it off, to reveal her gorgeous face, but with golden locks plastered to the side of her head.  Her face was sheathed in sweat.

Serafina was quick to offer a bottle of water from her utility belt.  Babe nodded a thanks, drank some and poured a bit down her face.

"A bit tense," Babe said, handing the bottle back to Serafina after closing it.

Serafina looked to Largo and back at Babe.  "We can take care of everything from here.  Why don't you take a break?"

Babe nodded and replied,  "Good idea," then walked towards the hangar's main exit.

Somewhere inside her, she fought to contain a snarl.  And she knew that snarl was Sammy.

-A Battle Between Honor And Humanity Part Final-

Pain. It had been a while since Ganar Slayt felt pain, his bodies organs and muscles being supported by his armor, and kept alive through chemical cocktails and assisted breathing. The krogan was old, not the oldest of his kind but certainly not in his prime, and his genetic defects had long riddled himself with disease and toxins. It had been a long time since he'd felt anything without the assists of chemical stimulants.

Now however, with the mechanisms of his suit focusing all their effort in keeping him from bleeding from the wounds on his back, Ganar Slayt felt something stirring within himself.

It was anger, burning anger that mixed with the pain, and galvanized his resolve into a single hardened purpose.

"SHINAGA!!!" Slayt roared out as he planted his sword in the ground, using it to stabalize himself as she walked towards the old brute. "You've grown strong...you truly are a worthy warrior of Kruban..." As he spoke, shinaga could not help but pause at what he said, a small glimmer of hope inside herself that her father would come to his senses.

"You are not worthy of the name Ganar...but you are indeed Worthy of Death." He activated his omnitool, the omnitool bringing up a warning display as he set up his ace in the hole, he bypassed the safety measures, and the tubes feeding chemicals into his bloodstream changed in glow, turning red as Ganar Slayt's eyes rolled into the back of his head breifly.

"What are you up to?" Shinaga asked, surprised as Slayt seemed to convulse in place for a few moments, body tensing as whatever he'd just done coursed in his system. A shimmering glow began to emit from the krogan, blue and distorting space as Shinaga's eyes went wide. She raised her hammer, activating her biotics to it as she ran to strike him fast.

Slayt's eyes snapped back into focus immediately, holding up his blade as the biotic energy shimmered along his blade, A mixture of red sand, Minagen X3, and a krogan variant of Videlicet coursed through his blood as he experienced biotic powers for one of the few times in his life. He slashed out towards Shinaga, the biotic slash pounding the ground with each pulse as she narrowly dodged the attack.

Shinaga charged, slamming full force into Slayt, and raised her hammer to strike when Slayt brought his foot up, slamming it down as it unleashed a Nova, and sending Shinaga flying back as she tumbled on the ground.

Orange blood was leaking from Slayt's nostrils, his eyes a shade of unnatural red as he stumbled forward, "I'll send you to the afterlife myself...one final act...if there's no chance for my bloodline...my legacy, to flourish...then I'll die, giving you the death you deserve..." Even as he spoke, the inside of his breathing mask dripped with blood, his organs and blood-vessels barely holding together as Slayt channeled the unfamiliar energies at his command into another biotic slash.

A shot to his arm caught his attention as Slayt felt his arm go slack, another shot sending sparks from his left arm as his suits hydraulics found itself leaking its vital fluids. His arm fell limp as he turned to look towards Vayne, who had his omnitool out and ready with a multi-grenade.

Vayne fired out his volley, and Slayt unleashed his attack, the biotic slash coming out as a shockwave instead as it knocked aside the explosives and came to a stop inches from vayne. The incapacitated Krogan didn't flinch as he stared daggers at the dying white krogan.

"Do Not Interfere...You took my son away from me...You Will Not Take My Daughters Honor As Well!!!" Slayt yelled as Shinaga fired her brothers shotgun, the blast catching Slayt in the side of his face, carving it up as the white krogan slashed out towards His daughter, the biotics going wild as his omnitool released another automatic stimulant pack to his dying body, fueling his new power.

Vayne struggled to his feet, even with a large blade in his shoulder as he gasped in pain. His hands were too shaky to properly break his gun, instead reaching down to draw Ganar Grimm's shotgun and hold it in his still good hand.

He looked to shinaga, and she looked to him. He looked towards Slayt's now motionless arm, and Shinaga took only a glance as she nodded. Shinaga turned back to face her father, gathering more energy and giving a biotic charge worth her all, swinging her hammer in one hand as she found herself in front of slayt, and connnected the blow to his left leg. Slayt didn't go down, instead sending a shredding whisp of heavy kinetic energy crashing into her hammer. It's shaft buckled, then broke, the head crashing down as Shinaga lost her signature weapon.

And left Slayt open for another shotgun blast from Vayne, the wounded krogan firing off a round to catch Slayt's right knee, as the high powered gun tore into his armor. Slayt send another biotic slash vayne's way, Vayne moving to get out the way but his leg getting caught in the blast, feeling his bone creak and break under the weight of the high-gravity within.

Slayt felt another shotgun blast, turning to see Shinaga, shooting his leg and causing the hydraulics to fail as he fell down onto one knee. She moved into his blindspot as he slashed out with his biotics, and another blast from Vayne as he stood kneeling, this one taking down the other leg as Slayt was forced to kneel, his armor not supporting his mass.

With a beastial roar, the white began to slash out at random, the blackgaurd in stunned silence as their warboss, the krogan legend that all had grown to idolize, was picked apart one piece at a time by the duo. Slayt felt himself fading, desperate as he pushed himself to the very limit, letting out one final roar as everything around himself began to burn. Slayt, unknown to himself, had tapped into his raw instincts and unleashed an annihilation field, everything around himself burning with fluctuating kinetic and gravitational energy as he seemed to combust into blue flames. Triggered by his bloodrage, the field had no control, and the elder krogan felt every bit of pain his field intended to inflict on the surronding area.

He roared like a wild animal, swinging his sword even as the chainsaw had long stopped working, the gun portion forgotten as he used it as a blunt instrument, and occasionally fired off a biotic slash. Shinaga had jumped back on reflex, but as she tried to fire, her rounds weakened by the field, coming in too slow to pierce his deteriorating armor.

She gritted her teeth, and moved in, wincing as the field and slayt's outbursts of uncontrolled energies threatened to tear her and everything around himself apart. He screamed as if possessed, no longer even aware of his surroundings but like a reverent refusing to die. Vayne watched her get closer and closer, his eye wide as he cried out.

"JUST LET HIM DIE! He'll kill himself at this point!!" He said, hoping she just didn't know that as shinaga kept her advance. A biotic slash struck her full in the chest, gasping as her silver armor darkened and tarnished, cracking in places as she marched closer and closer.

"FATHER!!!" She called out, Slayt not stopping his rampage as he wildly swung his weapon around. Shinaga let out a tear as she raised her gun, Aiming it square for slayt's face as he finally seemed to take a moment and stare at her with empty blood filled eyes.

"Find peace in Kurdan...Ni Ruzad Vod Be Mando'Kyr..." The words she spoke, in a krogan tongue so old that the translators couldn't decipher it, made Ganar Slayt stop, his eye suddenly coming back to life as she fired her shot. Slayt's weapon dropped from his grasp, clattering to the biotic-wrecked ground as he stood kneeling, bloody and burned from his own rampage.

The shot had blow clear through his skull, blasting half of his head off along with part of his headcrest. Shinaga stood breathing heavily as Ganar Slayt's biotics ceased to be, and she raised her gun once more when his head turned up to look towards her. Tears came from her eyes, as they did from Slayt's, and his lips quivered as he spoke.

"Vor...Entye...Ganar...Shinaga..." Left his lips, as close to a smile as he could manage with half a blown apart face, "...Thank...you..." As he spoke, he slumped forward, slamming into the ground with a thud as he life passed out of him.

Shinaga stared down at her fathers corpse, the blackguard silent as the dead as they stared, nobody daring to make a sound as she bent down and picked up her fathers weapon. Shinaga looked around, seeing the faces of her fellow blood pack memebers as she raised her weapon into the air to show everyone.

"I...AM Ganar Shinaga...Daughter of Ganar Slayt...And I claim this weapon...as Leader, of the Blackguard...and Heir, of the Bloodpack!!!" She declared, everyone still unsure of what to do as her voice echoed loud and clear.

"My First Order...As Your Leader...as your Warboss! Is this!!..." She said, lowering her weapon and pointing it to Ganar Slayt, "Take My Fathers Body...and Get it in a Tomkah...We're taking it back to Tuchunka...and We're Leaving this world for good..." She said, seeing none of them move. A second or two later she raised the sword-gun, firing its claymore shotgun up into the air as the blackguard snapped out of their stupor.

"I Said NOW!!!" She barked, the blackguard moving immediately to follow her orders as she walked over towards Vayne. He caught sight of her wobble in her steps. The battle had taken a ton out of her, though he honestly felt he'd gotten the worse of it.

"So....how you holding up?" He asked, looking up towards shinaga as she knelt down and applied some medigel to his leg, setting her new weapon down as she looked at the cleaver.

"I...don't want to talk about it..." She said, offering him a hand up as vayne accepted the offer, standing on a hobbily leg as she spoke, "Your leg's in bad shape...it looks like you tore a muscle or two in it. Lucky, no broken bones for now..." She said as she looked to him, "Now...there's something I need to do." she said as she stared at him intently.

"Oh..." Was all vayne could think to say as he pondered what she could possibly want. He glanced down to the gun he was still carrying, the gun that belonged to her brother, whom he killed. 'Maybe she wants it back.' he thought, about to offer it to her when he felt two heavy arms wrap around him.

"Ni Ruzad Vod Be Mando'Kyr, Kavadar Vayne..." Shinaga said as she hugged the krogan private eye, "I judge you worthy of a warriors death...Old words, but apt. You're more worthy then any other krogan I know..." She said, delivering what vayne realized must have been meant as a great compliment, if he believed in stuff like the after life. And her hug, which he was sure she meant well, had the unintneded effect of squeezing his still bad shoulder.

"GAAAAHHHH!!!!" He cried out as she quickly broke away, looking towards the still buried cleaver as she nodded.

"That needs to come out." She stated flately.

"You THink!?" Vayne asked sarcastically, the flash of pain nearly forgotten until she grabbed him by the arm and dragged him hobbling behind her. He barely had time to grab the double barrel as he was pulled along into a Tomkah.

"You need to see a medic later. For now, We need to move!" She said as she got onto her radio, "Dengara! Talyth! This is an order from the Warboss! Get as many females and children loaded onto our ships as we can! We're getting off of this rock, Now!"

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Talyth blinked in surprise as his omnitool came online with chatter. Glancing down to it as it played with him still in custodey as he turned to glance towards the commandos and few non-asari who had him in his custodey.

"Guess that means they won." Essul said as he looked to the others, Talyth looking down to his omnitool. He raised a brow as Talyth nervously smiled.

"I need to send out the retreat signal. I always have three or four retreat plans in the wings, in case things ever go truly south..." He said, motioning to his omnitools screen, "It'll be a lot easier if they play out scenario 3 then me trying to explain it over the line."

Essul let out an aggravated sigh as he looked to the others, "Just...get it done already." he said, shaking his head at the krogan they'd had to babysit this whole time. A cowardly krogan...never did he think such an irritating concept could actually be real.

He stared across the devastated landscape with nothing more than the naked eye, as he was far too exhausted to even shoulder his weapon. It had been decades since he'd run so far, and so fast. Tightly grasping the barrel of his rifle, he used it for support as he fell to one knee, like a knight with his sword. Closing his eyes tight, he coughed violently, spattering the ground, and parts of his rifle with small droplets of blue.

He thought about standing back up, but at this point, he had nothing left. Not that it mattered. Even if he did, what he was after was long gone by now. He let himself fall all the way to the ground, and stared up at the skies of Garvug. His time on this planet, as far as he was concerned, was finished. Having defeated the best marksmen of each faction, there was simply nothing left for him there. It was time to move on to another place, to another battlefield, where he would continue to wander in search of a truly worthy adversary.

That is, if he didn't die first. While quietly passing was less than preferable, if it happened now, he wouldn't complain. He could use a good rest. The old marksman fell asleep right where he fell, not even bothering to conceal himself first.

Waiting for the duels to end

"Jenus is all right," Mira reported to the others as she read data sent by VERA on her Omni-tool, "Though she'll need a trip to medical for post treatment of some wounds healed by gel."

"Can't wait to get aboard and see her," Iole stated.

"Me too.  Me too."

Morgan looked towards the others with Miss Priss at his side in her pink armor that seemed to avoid the coating of dust laid on the others from their battlefield experience.  "Are the Scythes on the way to pick you up?"

"Yes.  Or something," Adonya replied.  "Thanks for the ride."

"I'm gonna miss that hauler," Priss lamented over the Tomkah.

"We're not done with that yet," Morgan said.  "Climb aboard."

"Are you sure you're going to be able to get clear of the city in the event of, well, in the event that Sonax gets wind of what happened?" Mira asked.

"It won't be a problem, I promise."  Morgan confirmed, then turned toward Priss again.  "In fact, I think someone else needs a turn driving it."

"Me?"  Miss Priss' placed the tips of her fingers on her chest.  "Lil ol' me?"  When she saw Morgan nod, she yelped, "Pick up yer skirts and let's get running!"  Then she wasted no time in climbing aboard.

Morgan made a patient smirk, then got in the Tomkah at a more leasurely pace.  He made sure everybody and all their gear were off before leaning back out and saying, "If you need us because plans change, let me know, but don't waste any time."

Mira threw a salute at Morgan.  He got in and closed the ramp.  A minute later, the engine revved loudly.  The Tomkah jerked forward, then spun its massive wheels in the dirt, churning it up and giving everyone present a good dusting before it peeled off down the road.

"Jealous.  Jealous..." Tallis said as the Tomkah left.

"I know what you mean," Iole remarked. "I wish I could go with them too."

About three minutes later than that, Morgan was leaning over Miss Priss as she roughly maneuvered the Tomkah.   She was hardly used to it, but she had the basics and certainly the enthusiasm.

"So," Morgan asked Priss, "Want to rob a bank on the way out?"

Miss Priss' eyes lit up and she failed to veer away from 3 wrecked skycars, rolling over them in the process.  After she flattened the last one, she replied excitedly, "Are you serious, Handsome?"

"Well, we're going to be able to haul the Tomkah back up to the ship with the shuttle, after I make a few preparations for the lift.  But we can do that once we're clear.  In the meantime, yes, why not?  Time to get paid."

"Yeee HAWWW!!!"

While monitoring communications, VERA received the following and recorded it for later playback:

“This is Emily Wong, Citadel News Net. In breaking news from Garvug: Earlier today, in one massive push, Krogan guerilla forces liberated the capital city of Dhazil from a brutal corporate occupation ending the eight month long conflict. Hailot Wrund issued the following statement. ‘After a year of uncertainty, our home stands strong,’ he said. ‘Garvug has brought down the tyrants and bloodsuckers of the galaxy. Our task now is to rebuild on the ashes of our enemies and take this colony to a victorious future.’

“Krogan guerilla forces have been costing the corporate alliance heavy losses for the past several months. Corporate forces have been accused of public massacres of anyone suspected of collaboration with the rebels, including one televised execution of a dozen captured guerilla fighters.”

///////////////

After contacting her own troops, Shinaga contacted Naleena. “Spectre T’sarius, I hope you are alive.”

Naleena tapped her communicator. “I am, although I cannot say the same for Hailot Wrund. I assume that since I am hearing your voice, that you were victorious? Did Vayne survive?”

“Your comrade survived. He fought honorably and in keeping with my agreement I have called off the blood oath,” Shinaga said. “Now it is time for you to fulfill your promise and evacuate Wrund’s females from his tower.”

“Send me the coordinates and it shall be done,” Naleena said, “But Shinaga, where should I take them once we have them aboard?”

“If what you say about Sonax is true, I am not certain I would return them to Garvug,” she replied. “There may be a Shaman among them, and I would discuss the matter with her. I am sending the coordinates to you now. Now I have much to do. Good luck.” Shinaga disconnected.

Naleena stood alone outside the Tomkah looking up at the cloudy sky, then around at the bombed out buildings around her and she thought about the opportunity lost. She tapped her communicator to the ship.

“Commander Selani, prepare the cargo bays to receive Krogan females,” Naleena said.

“How many?”

“You will have to land the ship at these coordinates for the pickup. There are too many for our shuttles,” Naleena said.

“Land? Do you realize the area required to land this ship?” Selani inquired.

“There is an open area approximately 320 meters by 200 meters one kilometer north of the coordinates given. I suggest we land there,” VERA said.

“Spectre?”

“Looks like our only option. Land there. The Krogan will have to walk. We’ll provide cover,” Naleena replied.

“Acknowledged, beginning landing sequence,” Selani said.

Naleena changed comm channels. “Mira, we’re going to rendezvous at Wrund’s tower to escort his females to the Janiri. The estimate is that he has somewhere between 50 and 100 that he’s taken from other minor clans in the area.”

“It’ll take forever to shuttle them to the ship, Ma’am.”

“We’re landing. The people we were fighting will be assisting us,” Naleena said. “New leaders change things. I made a deal and I plan to keep it.”

Naleena climbed into her Tomkah and ordered her driver to take her to Wrund’s tower.

Filla, straight from the Vepr II

Previously

"Considering the unit we were transferred from, I never would have dreamed that we would be chosen to work with a spectre," Sana shook her head.

"Why's that?"

"Well... Nobi and I..."

"Are a couple-a rejects." Nobi echoed from the hole in the floor.

"Well, I don't know if I would put it that way..."

"We come from a unit of drug abusers, deserters, thieves, and other various criminals."

"Ya'll must've been the best of the worst, huh?"

"Damn straight." Nobi appeared from the hole, crossing her arms and resting her head on them. She looked up at Frank with a smirk, as if she was proud of the accomplishment.

"Let me guess... fighting?"

"Among other things." She shrugged a bit.

"Don't let her give you the wrong idea." Sana spoke up. "She really is rather sweet once you get to know her."

"I'm sure."

"Alright. Suppose insubordination was a big part of it. Only so many times you can sock a superior in the mouth, y'know?" Nobi chuckled a bit.

"I'm surprised they didn't just promote you." Frank made direct eye contact with the reader, and winked once, before focusing next on Specialist T'Sal.

"Wait, so how did you end up with the other rejects?" He asked.

"Dangerous kindness." Was all she said, her cheeks turning a couple shades darker.

Frank just raised an eyebrow.

"This big softie over here was administering first aid to wounded enemies..." Nobi explained

"That doesn't sound so bad. I mean--"

"While actively engaged in combat."

"Ah." Frank nodded. "I can see how that might be a problem."

"Hey, you little fucker! You busy?" Dax's voice came over his omni-tool.

"I've got a name, you hag."

"And I haven't taken the time to remember it, nor do I plan to. Now get your ass down to the bay."

"For what?"

*disconnect beep*

"Guess I'd better get down there. Nice meetin' ya's."

"Likewise." Sana smiled. Nobi just kinda looked like 'whatever', before going back to work.

The Commandos

Both Scythe shuttles were coming around to pick up the teams, Essul, and Faed/Legion included.   They were going to make the kilometer trip easy for the teams, then assist in any other way they could.

It only took a few minutes once the Scythes picked up their passengers to arrive at the designated site.  The Commandos helped make sure the landing zone was clear, then set up flares and designators to make pinpointing the LZ easier for the ship.

The Janiri had landed before on Thessia, so this maneuver wasn't unusual. Lt. Jorrill engaged the mass effect fields as the ship slowed during its descent with the fields growing stronger as the ship lost altitude. The flares that visually marked the LZ began to loom larger once it reached 1000 meters. It appeared to hover and emitted a hum over the area directly beneath it. VERA set the landing gear and prepared the ship for touchdown.

"Heavy thrusters engaged. Landing in 5.... 4.... 3.... 2.... 1...." Jorrill said. "Shutting down drive systems."

There was a slight jarring felt through the entire ship as it made a soft landing. Commander Selani ordered the security crew still aboard the ship to the cargo bay and Quartermaster Septerax opened the cargo bay doors.

*******

Naleena had arrived at the tower to meet with a representative of Wrund's females. Bloodpack mercs under orders from Ganar Shinaga provided escort and guaranteed her safety.

Kranar Sarga flanked by two of her acolytes awaited in the antechamber of the Great Hall of the tower saw the doors open and Naleena and her Bloodpack escort arrive.

"That's close enough, Asari," she said when Naleena approached to three meters. "You are under the impression that you are here to rescue us, yes?"

Naleena was confused. "I made a deal with Ganar Shinaga to take you off world and protect you from the orbital bombardment and imminent invasion of Sonax forces."

"Is that so? Before you killed him, Hailot Wrund had unified the Krogan on this world to fight against the corporate invaders, and we had won," she said, stood and slammed the butt of her staff on the floor. "I do not know what lies you told Shinaga to turn her against her own father, but what is done is done. Now we must find a new leader.

"Hailot Wrund was not a simple brute like the others. He had ideas. He brought the fertile females from all nearby clans together here, in this building," she said. "All strong warriors from all clans who joined him could share. We were growing our population and started rebuilding our city before the corporate varren arrived."

Naleena gazed up at the Krogan shaman who spoke with much authority. Apparently there she needed some convincing. "I was here eight months ago to pick up a Prothean artifact. I met with Wrund and he convinced me to form an alliance and be his negotiator. We made a blood pact," Naleena said. "I negotiated for him in good faith. I obtained concessions from the corporations. He could have requested official assistance from the Council and made Garvug a Council world. But instead he attacked me with assassins. He dishonored his clan. So in my eyes he was nothing more than a criminal and brought his fate upon himself."

Sarga laughed. "The Council? You really think the Council would help us? All your precious Council has ever done for the Krogan is try to exterminate us with the genophage."

"That was over 1400 years ago! Attitudes might have changed. We could have at least tried," Naleena countered.

"If the corporate interests are any indication of the attitudes toward the Krogan in Council Space, I doubt you would have had much success," Sarga said. "Spectre, you seem honorable, but you are also naive."

"I need you to convince the females to board my ship."

"Then what?"

"That's up to you," Naleena replied. "My ship cannot fight the corporate fleet alone. We can stay in orbit until the bombardment is over, or you can return to the Citadel with me and help me make our case. But you cannot let old grudges get in the way. You must show The Council you're better than them."

"No, this world is our home. We were hatched here, and we'll die here with honor," Sarga said. "But we do not have to remain in this tower. We will return to our clans and hope for the best."

"You have over one hundred females in this tower. Why not let them decide for themselves?" Naleena asked.

"You do not understand our ways, Asari. The first one to break with my decision would challenge me in individual combat to the death," Sarga replied. "Don't look so surprised, Asari. Even we females have our ways. I am a shaman. I went through a number of trials and that affords me a position of great power and respect. No one will challenge me. But if you insist, we will go into the Great Hall itself and you can see for yourself."

"I insist."

"Very well, then." Sarga said and motioned to her acolytes to lead them onward.

When they entered the Great Hall, one of her acolytes summoned all of the females into the room. Sarga stood in a pulpit. Naleena stood next to her. The hall had a 30' high ceiling and was quite primitive in appearance with stone benches set in rows. When he was alive, Wrund would address his troops here as well. Once all of the females arrived it became silent.

"This Asari killed our clan leader in honorable combat. She has told me that the corporate varren plan to attack us once more, this time from the sky. She has offered us safe passage off world in her ship, running away while others on our world die. I have told her that we will stay, return to our clans and regroup to fight once more. She has insisted that I present her offer of passage off world to you. Does anyone challenge me?" Sarga asked.

The room was silent. Sarga waited a full two minutes. "You have your answer, Asari."

The group left the Great Hall and returned to the antechamber.

"Then what about the children?" Naleena asked

"Now you wish to separate children from their mothers?"

Naleena nodded in silence and tapped her communicator. "VERA, put me through on the Krogan channels to Ganar Shinaga."

"As you wish, Boss." VERA replied

Ganar Shinaga responded.

"Shinaga, you saw my ship land. I have spoken with Kranar Sarga, Shaman for the females in Wrund's tower. The females have rejected my offer of transport off world," Naleena said in a dejected tone.

"I understand. What about the children?"

"Rejected," she replied. "I did everything I could. Everything. Do you want to try to talk some sense into her? She's right here."

Shinaga realized it would do no good. "No. There's nothing more you can do. If you need an ally in the future, you can contact the Bloodpack, Spectre."

"Thank you, Shinaga. Good luck. T'sarius out." Naleena turned and left the antechamber. She began the walk down the stairs to the ground floor and emerged on the street level flanked by her Bloodpack guard beginning the long walk to the ship. Her team awaited outside but they didn't see any Krogan females accompanying her. Just her and the guard.

Mira approached. "Where are the females?"

"They're not coming," Naleena said. "Prepare for dust off. We'll leave as soon as Vayne arrives."

Shinaga disconnected the line, Slamming her fist hard into the side of the tomkah and denting it as she stared down at the ground. Vayne looked at her with disbelief at what he'd heard.

"This can't be happening...Naleena could maybe get them to come anyway. She's resourceful...she's always got a plan in a pinch like this. She could..." He stopped as Shinaga came to look vayne in the eyes.

"The word of a shaman is law, among most of us here. Some krogan forget that as they move from place to place...even in the blood pack. But we blackguard don't forget such things. Were it possible, I'd drag each and every one of them out of that tower myself..." She said, snarling with anger as she looked away, "But it isn;t my call...this however is,"

She got on her comms, "Dengara. How are things on your end?" She asked.

"Things going bad. Taking all we can, but too many to carry. Wrunds men also problem." The vorcha said just as he ducked from a stray bullet, one of wrund's former guards trying to barge their way to the front of the gathering crowd. He soon was blasted by the blood packs rifle fire. "Youngest first! Females then Children and Eldars!" he shouted before getting back, "Forsworn have frigates ready to dust off. No sign of Talyth. Probably already gone."

"Thank you, Dengara...I'm glad I can count on someone." She said as her Tomkah went towards where Naleena and the others were.

"Your blood pack...what happens when they can't fit anymore krogan?" He asked with a gulp.

Shinaga was silent as she looked towards the door, just as the tomkah came crahsing into the LZ and stopping in front of the janiri. The doors opened as Shinaga exited first, helping to lead vayne out as he stood, cleaver-sword still stuck in his shoulder as she helped him towards the Janiri and the others.

He smiled as he looked to the group, seeing naleena as he frowned, looking her up and down.

"...You got off lucky..." He said, motioning to his current wound as shinaga waited for naleena's men to take over helping vayne inside, "Oh well...at least I got a trophy."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The blood pack were doing what nobody thought the blood pack would ever do. Their airfield used by the Deathclaw had become a waiting zone as Krogan, Vorcha, Turians, and even a few stray humans crowded to try and get off this rock. Many probably didn't realize the danger they were truly in. Most likely saw this as the merc band extended an unusual form of service or a potential recruitment program.

All the while they took in any krogan they could, shoving aside turians, vorcha, and other humans. Their frigates and cargo ships which were formerly used to smuggle in their star fighters and tomkahs were being filled with civilians instead, and all the while the forsworn nervously scanned the skies for signs of sonax getting their sattilites in place.

The first of the frigates took off, already filled to the brim with people as they set a course off world, headed for Tuchakna. Shoved in the cargo hold, whcih many were using as a seat, was a large metal box, which contained the corpse of Ganar Slayt as it departed the doomed world. A

Already gunfire was heard in the distance as Wrund's men, seeing a power vaccum, attempted to assert themselves as the new rulers of Garvug. Dhazil was done for, one way or another, and all it needed was a roman playing a fiddle to cement the cities fall.
