Hmm… So contact Aelias for further details about the mission. Okay I will. Naleena thought, and she contacted the Communications Officer.
“Naleena, I assume this is about the mission?” Aelias asked.
“Androkan said you have the mission details. He’s been very sketchy on his last two missions. I want details on this one. Let’s have them,” Naleena said. “I know we’re robbing a train. I want more than that: opposition; who is leading it; where the train is heading; to whom the train belongs; the works.
“We can expect heavy opposition once aboard the train,” Aelias said.
“That’s not good enough,” Naleena said, “Who is the opposition?”
“You’re on a Spectre mission. Who it is doesn’t matter, “ Aelias said.
“Why so secretive about it? Why not just tell me it’s Asari military? Am I right?”
Aelias sounded nervous. Deidrus and the XO were nearby. “Yes. They’re from the military base. They’ll be guarding the train. The train is owned by an Asari corporation.”
Naleena took a deep breath. Her suspicions were right. “I know these trains, and I know the security. We should have a backup shuttle. I’ll take my shuttle along in case the Audron’s is not capable of picking up the team,” Naleena said, “VERA can pilot the shuttle and keep it hidden while we do what needs to be done. She can also provide covering fire if necessary.”
Aelias nodded. “Acknowledged.”
“Is there anything else you haven’t told me?” Naleena asked, “With whom did Androkan attempt negotiations?”
Aelias turned pale. “I…”
“With whom did Androkan attempt negotiations?”
She knew Naleena wouldn’t accept a run around. “There is another Spectre at the base. But that changes nothing. You do know the penalties for sabotaging a Spectre run operation, or even desertion during a Spectre run operation, am I right?”
“Let me guess. It involves bleeding profusely.” Naleena said. “Tell the Spectre he doesn’t have to worry about my sabotaging his operation, or desertion for that matter.”
“Will there be anything else?”
“No, that will be all,” Naleena said. She disconnected. Idiots!
“See, Dahlia? See what I told you?” Naleena threw her hands up. “And Anika decides to stay with Silver. Can’t anything go right today?”
Naleena had all of her weaponry laid out on the bed. Her Black Widow, Mattock, two Carnifexes, SIG 226, Kassa Locust, 2 Wakizashis, 2 Aikuchis, her Katana, a full load of thermal clips, and the Collector Particle Beam. She was about to start picking them up when the bell to her cabin rang.
“Yes, who is it?” Naleena asked.
“Anika.”
“Come in.” Naleena said.
Anika entered wrapped in nothing but a towel. Dahlia looked at Naleena and made a motion with her hands “I’ll just leave now.”
Naleena nodded. Dahlia left, and the door closed behind her leaving Naleena and Anika alone. And they both spoke exactly at the same time.
“Anika.”
“Naleena.”
Naleena motioned to the couch. She was practically in tears.
“What is it, Naleena?” Anika started to rub her shoulders.
“I snapped at you. I needed you right then. I don’t need people. I’m not used to that feeling,” Naleena said.
“Something’s wrong.” Anika continued to rub her shoulders.
“Very. And it’s complicated.” Naleena replied. She went into the mission details. “Androkan just put me in a position of committing treason against my own people. Yet, I cannot undermine a Spectre mission because that’s treason against the Council. Without Council sanction, a mission like this could mean that this Spectre has gone rogue. Yet until the Council declares that officially, no action can be taken.”
“So what are you going to do?” Anika asked.
“I’m going to surrender myself to Asari authorities on the train,” Naleena said, “It will provide a distraction. My reason is that I do not want to get caught in the dispute between two Council Spectres. I cannot ask you to do that, but if you want to join me, I wouldn’t mind the company.”
“I… don’t know.”
“They’ll evacuate the facility, and we’d be released. The Council won’t hold us for surrendering under those circumstances. Regardless of what you decide, Anika, I love you. If you choose to go with Jess, I will understand.” Naleena got a sad look on her face. “But I will find you again. See? Complicated.”
