Frank lifted his hat a little.  "Yeah, just trying not to scare people." he chuckled.  "I see you got your armor back in order."

"Leggo"! Anika shouted over the screech of the drill.

"Never"! Jess cried back as the bit took the last bolt out of her torso armour.

Both were on the decking and Jess had managed to get up and over her, using her own torso as weight to keep Anika down while hooking one of her arms behind her back. Using her elbow and knee to immobilise her head and stop her from thrashing to much she quickly set to work. The weight was to much for her to lift them both with one arm, but sooner or later she'd wiggle free.... Had to get as much done as....

Her comm going off distracted her and Anika took the opportunity to roll her up and over herself to land Jess on her head, upside down against the bed. "Jess! I need to be in armor"!

"IT'S A PARTY"!!! Jess drowned her out.

Anika huffed and reached for the bolts Jess had in her hand when Jess pulled the last resort. "Get out of that armour and come to the party and have some fun! And that's an order"!

Anika glared. "Damn you". She mumbled before getting up and moving over to her bags to change.

Jess took the time to roll upright and brought up her messages. She saw one from Eteon. Read it..... Began typing a response.

Eteon.

I think she's got something you can use. Swing by soon.

Jess winced as she felt a muscle protest at trying to hold Anika down for so long.

Bring an icepack.

((Jesus.))

Vayne smiled a bit, giving a nod as he flexed his fingers a bit, "Yup. I finally got it fixed up, now I'm just breaking it back in, getting ride of any sort of bugs that might crop up..." he said as he rubbed his hands together, "Better here then in a battle. Plus its normal party attire for my kind..." he said as he looked between the four mercs.

"Probably didn't get off to a good start the first time we meet..." Vayne said, remembering only breif flashes and intense rage from when he landed in the canyon, "My names Kavadar Vayne, pleasure to meet you." he said as he gave a polite nod to the 4 of them.

Morgan answered Essul after thinking a bit, “It really hasn’t been that long.  Something over a week, less than two?  It feels like a lot longer than that, though.  The mission, well, under Spectre Androkan, before we got here, it was to go after the Collectors, and find out what they are doing making human colonies disappear.  At this point, I feel it’s a lot more complicated than that.  And there are a few problems we picked up along the way.”

Like Iyana.  And Jess’ ship being seized.

“I started on this after running into Androkan, and out of an interest in what was happening to the colonies.  It also helped getting me out from under my previous…employer.  Mind if I ask how you came about working for Spectre T’Sarius?”

“Hello. Hello,” Tallis came forward first. She bowed her head slightly towards Frank and Vayne. With a smile, she offered Frank what was apparently a very appetizing array of small hot dogs in mini buns on toothpicks. Then, with a cautious look up at Vayne she pointed towards his armor with her free hand.

“Very impressive.” Tallis paused, trying very badly not to repeat herself for once, then looking like she was about to burst, she said again, “Very impressive.”

A bit embarrassed, Tallis pointed towards Vayne and then towards Jenus. “Yum, yum?”

“I’ve got something for krogan here,” Jenus said with a slight eyeroll at Tallis. Jenus raised her plate a bit in Vayne’s direction. "Nice to meet you Kavadar Vayne. Thank you for coming. I'm Jenus. The asari who says things twice is Tallis. This is Iole, and...this is Mira."

The two asari who hadn't spoken bowed their heads slightly. Mira gave a sidelong glance at Jenus.

"An ice pack." Eteon repeated to herself as she took the pieces of her tunic she was using and stuffed them into the long sleeves, tying them off on her arm before pulling the white undershirt over her head. It was slit on the side since Turian bodies were rarely accommodating to form-fitting clothing on the body. "Med bay is the next stop then."

Once she was sure she had everything she needed was on her she left the room and walked towards the medical center. Seeing that there was nobody there she slipped into the basic medical supplies cabinet and took out a self-cooling packet for Jess. These are a credit for dozens... She pondered whether or not it mattered or if she should leave a note... Then decided against it. Nobody will miss one packet.

Walking out she scanned her provided map for the location of Jess' and her bodyguard. Arriving on their doorstep she rapped the door with her knuckles. Borrowing clothes from aliens... It's better human than Elcor.

Franks. Ha. If they have baked beans I'm going to lose it.

Frank spun the toothpick between his fingers as he checked out the rest of the common area.  He popped another tiny wiener into his mouth.

"I remember Spectre T'sarius mentioning the collectors in her mission...quite coincidental." Essul stated as he looked ahead, head held high and arms behind his back as if he were standing at attention. Hearing morgans next question made him sigh a bit.

"I was assigned to investigate strange disappearances of human colonies in the terminus, as well as a rash of disappearances of batarians in our own space..." essul explained as he stood facing ahead, rather then looking to morgan directly, "The missing citizenry is much less then those of the humans, and was able to be kept quite more. The hegemony believes someone is attempting to provoke a war between the alliance and hegemony by using the disappearances to stir up racial tension..." he said as he closed his eyes, shaking his head slowly.

"Only with the recent tragedy involving the drowned aspire, It seems the culprit of my investigations is now conformable. I found proof in my investigation of their involvement, but now it seems almost irrelevant..." there was a hint of bitterness in his voice as he spoke, along with a sense of anger and if one listened close enough, remorse.

=======================================================================================

Vayne stared at tallis blankly, blinking a couple times in confusion. "Ummm.....thank you?" He said, taking her strange speech as a compliment as he took the plate offered. He nodded as each of the commandos gave their name, eye glancing about the interior as he blinked a bit, his vision a bit wonky from the lights and pictures as he looked to the tiny food on his plate.

"You put a lot of effort into this..." he commented, not sure how close he was to the truth but figuring a compliment would work better here. He didn't much care for the small portion food that often plagued these events, finding most were usually over garnished and under whelming.

Still, it wasn't too bad. He was impressed at least they weren't just in a bare bones bulkhead with a small little omnitool radio for music.

Jenus’ smile faded slightly.  The other three commandos serving were on the edge momentarily.  Jenus’ look became somewhat hard as Vayne looked at the plate.  She read his disappointment.

“Okay, big guy,” Jenus said with a bit of edge in her voice, “I got it, you want something else.  Come over here.”  Jenus lowered her plate and walked towards the long table with food on it.  When she saw Vayne didn’t follow immediately, she insisted, “Come here.”

Mira was about to say something when Jenus stood by the table in perfect posture, waving over a section of it with one arm.  She turned her head sideways to speak to Vayne directly.

“The cook on board is a krogan named Aknot Grag.  Before we even came along, he took the trouble of making sure everyone had something they would really like for their first meal aboard the Janiri.
That especially includes you, Kavadar Vayne.  Grag made effort of having live Kodagu1 brought aboard which he skinned, gutted, cleaned and served as you can see here raw.  However, he made it a point to leaving the bones in, as he emphasized that most krogan do not prefer they be removed.  The Kodagu you see on the plate were freshly killed before served, and so they are still warm Vayne.  And there is plenty here to satisfy you for a meal.”

Jenus did her best to maintain her composure, though for a moment, there was a flash where it might be apparent she was secretly hoping for approval behind the pride she so cherished.  She waited quietly for Vayne’s response.

1Kodagu:  Let's just say this is, indeed, a favored dish of the krogan.  The Kodagu would be an oversized Iguana like lizard that naturally inhabits Tuchanka and has to fend off predators of all kind, including the voracious varren.  Krogan love catching them in the wild and eating them immediately.  Although often eaten whole, they are preferred gutted and skinned.  Most notably, the krogan prefer the bones in, as they like to crunch on them for the marrow.  So it is a fairly big deal that Grag would prepare these and the asari would serve them at the party.

Irina got ready for the meet and greet.

"The showers," she said, "Zenon, you have to take a shower. I haven't had a decent shower in weeks. Just enough to keep the stink at bay. But these... these are wonderful." She brushed out her hair and got herself dressed.

"You take a shower, and get back into the same smelly leathers you were wearing," Zenon said, "What's the purpose in that?"

"They're all I own."

"Here, the ship has some casual clothing in the drawer," Zenon said, "Put it on. You'll look nice."

"But, that's a... dress." Irina said. "You really don't want me to wear a dress. I haven't worn one since I was your age. You wear it. You'll look nice."

"Then wear these." Zenon pulled out the pants and shirt.

"Well, I suppose I could wear them.... or..." she dug deeper in the drawer and found a pair of coveralls. "I could wear these. They're even form fitting. And there's a pair of boots that are... what do you know, my size. You're right. This looks a little more casual, and I must say I look pretty good, too." She put on the black coveralls, and black boots.

Zenon put on the Asari dress, "How does this look?"

"You look really nice. So there was a young woman under all that dirt after all." Irina said. "Come on, we'll miss the party."

The two of them walked down to the common room.

Frank stopped at one of the extranet terminals in the common area.  He sent some messages.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Recipient: Officer Dolf Träger

Subject: Sorry

Träger,

I'm sorry for knocking you out and stealing your pants.  I did what I believed necessary at the time, it was nothing personal.  Next time I'm on the Citadel, I'll make it up to you. There's a new gentlemen's club on Tayseri ward, I hear it's pretty wild. Drinks and dances are on me.  Send my regards to Lt. Torres, hope I didn't bust any of his teeth out with that chair.

-- Detective Francis Elias

*message sent*

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Recipient: Adir'Razt vas Vepr

Subject: Still alive.

Adir, I'm sure you have seen the news.  I'm not in any trouble.  Aboard another ship, even nicer than the last.  It's an asari vessel this time.  The commandos from the train job are here too. Crazy, huh?  Haven't met the rest of the crew yet, and I'm still exploring the ship.  When I find out more I'll tell you all about it.  Hope to see you again soon.

-- Frank Eli nar Vepr

*message sent*

-----------------------------------------------------------

Frank logged out and stepped away from the terminal.  He pulled the bottle of pills from his pocket, and groaned.

I'm going to need a drink for these.

He returned to the commandos.  "Would one of you be so kind as to show me whats safe to drink?" Frank scratched his head.  "I've drank dextro stuff before, and I'd rather not do it again."

The beauty of the inside of the ship, and the sounds of the crew's casual talking and steps gave a faint echo. Getting paid a small fortune to mostly sit on a ship and read books, while occasionally following his passion of killing, and now a party? For such a dangerous mission, it sure did seem exciting and a lot of fun.

Avan sat up from the bed and left the book on the mattress. The cover read 'The Hungry Tired Krogan: Now a major motion picture!'

The crew quarters had a seperate section for Grag the cook. "Hello."

"Mm? Hi." Grag looked busy and uninterested in talk.

"Um...the ship is lovely. Are you enjoying yourself?"

"Eh. Just making food. A job's a job. And I want this done good for the party."

"Oh, so you're the cook. I mean, obviously you are, otherwise you wouldn't be...making the food. I mean, nothing wrong with being a Krogan. I'm not trying to offend."

"Eh, you're ok. Cooking's a passion of mine. If you're krogan and you enjoy passing the time by doing something besides killing, it's strongly encouraged to do so. I once knew a Krogan who was teaching dancing lessons. Now he's won several awards from all over the systems and is living in a mansion."

"Wow...that's amazing."

"The funny thing is, he's still teaching dancing. Might for another 600 years, hahaha! You have a passion that much, best you stick with it." Grag continued to chuckle looking down and cutting Kodagu.

"Kodagu!" Avan exclaimed.

"You know about Kodagu?" Grag was surprised.

"Yes. It's delightful. If only you didn't have to pull the bones out of them."

"Or if you can just crunch them up like me. They add flavor. When cooking I always have to remind myself that your kind and others have teeth like tiny ice cubes. Huh huh huh!"

"Well, at least we can compliment our lovers' necks without absolutely killing them."

"Where did you do your research on that? We can do plenty of things to pleasure females. Krogan are very veratile."

"Versatile"

"Ver-satile. Ugh, **** it." Grag grunted.

“Uh, here,” Iole said to Frank before clearing her throat and moving next to him.  The move also got her out of the line between Jenus and Vayne.  “At the table, anything in a red container is dextro based, so stick to the blue containers.  And don’t eat the skewered meat on ice; that’s for the turians.  It’s raw and, well, it’ll kill you.”

Iole saw a skeptical look in Frank’s glance.

“Right,” Iole admitted, “Of course it won’t kill you.  But you’ll probably get sick and yarf it out later.  Apparently the Kogadu is edible, but…let’s just call it an acquired taste if you aren’t a krogan.”

The bandages on Frank’s face stood out, and Iole couldn’t help but spot them.  The golden flecks on her forehead shifted as she furrowed her brows.  “Those, ah, those didn’t come from falling off the bridge, did they?”

"Huh?" The question caught Frank off guard. "Oh Yeah!" He ran a finger over the bridge of his nose. "I mean, no. These didn't come from the bridge incident."

"These did, though." Frank lifted up one side of his shirt, showing the bruising along his ribs. "But I'm pretty sure that was mostly from the first time I fell off the bridge."

He poked and one of the devices that Elara had attached. "These keep my ribs from puncturing my organs. Pretty cool, huh?"

Jess was finishing tying the red neckerchief around her neck at a lopsided angle as Anika, out of her armour, pulled on one of the elegant party dresses Jess kept buying for her. Conforming, with a plunging backline, and white with shining silver threads that twinkled in the light, the skirt dropped down to her ankle before riding up her hips and ending with a tapering neckline that ended in a choker. She'd quickly washed and dried herself beforehand and her hair was now neatly combed and tucked in, strand perfect.

Jess looked down at her casual slacks and jacket she'd thrown over her bodysuit and tugged at the neckerchief that gave her the 'going native', look. Then she looked back at Anika who rose gracefully, revealing the fact she was still wearing those whole regulation army boot's......

So unfair. Jess thought. She couldn't look that good, or do that with her hair on her best day.

The door chimed. "C'mon in". Jess called out, sweeping alot of the spare parts they'd been using to add to the computer and display section's they'd thrown up against a wall.

Iole looked down at Frank’s injuries and back up at him with a guilty expression.  “Sorry about that.  You know, in hindsight I kind of wish things had gone differently.

“But, ah, that protector is kind of cool,” Iole couldn’t help but stare at the device. Then she got a guilty look on her face again.  “I know I’m not supposed to stare.  I sort of am a techno-geek so I like looking at anything that beeps or has a light, or…well you get the idea.  Besides, I did break two good ribs in training a few years ago.  They still didn’t quite have whatever it is you’re wearing though.

“You should pull your shirt down, though,” Iole said self-consciously, but with a smirk. “Only because everybody will want one if they see you wearing it.”

~ ~ ~ ~

The elevator doors opened into one end of the common room, and Morgan stepped out with Essul.  Taking in the scene, Morgan said, “I guess we’re early?”

“No, right on time.”  One of the commandos seemed eager to distract herself from an interaction between Vayne and another of her teammates.  She had clear bluish eyes, no facial markings, and wore a pristine, white and turquoise green commando suit that stood out from the others.  “I’m Mira.  Come on in, relax and have something to eat.”

(I don't know why this is gone bold and I can't undo it... sorry!)

"Declare me unfit? Oh of all the things that would fall against me I never once contemplated that your ignorance would be one of them. How about you think this one through miss lieutenant commander. The lizard thinks I'm a genius; The lizard that is a doctor. Someone in a profession fuelled by narcissism and from a species which superiority complexes are a second nature has admitted that I am a genius. So you can take it for granted that I am goddamn good at what I do. Of course you've never been in the situation to see how good I am because all you do is sit behind your bloody tidy little desk pushing pencils and barking orders. So taking into consideration the well being of the crew, as yourself, which would you rather put up with? A mess or a missing doctor?" The question was of course rhetoric. Jaimie didn't wait for a answer, she just abruptly rose from her seat and exited, keeping eye contact with her superior officer the entire walk.

Irina entered the common room where everyone was gathering. She saw Vayne there enjoying a Krogan delicacy served to him by Jenus, and she decided to wander over.

"Don't you go stealin' my friends on me, Jenus," Irina said. "How's the Kodagu, Vayne?"

"Good, but you wouldn't like it. It's full of bones," Vayne said.

"But I could stick my finger in here and take a taste..." Irina said, "Quite delicious. Reminds me of some of the vermin I killed on Duellos."

"Ha!"

"So Jenus, how's things?" Irina asked.

"Between us? We're good," Jenus replied, "I think Vayne's a good guy. You know where you stand with him. Good thing we didn't have to kill each other back on Duellos."

"Yeah, I'd have missed all this fun. Who could pass up living on an Asari ship with a Krogan cook?" Vayne longed for a rougher environment but remained polite.

"Yeah, that's what I like about Krogan. No games." Irina said detecting his hint of sarcasm.

"Oh yeah, they'd be all the rage.  Just break a few ribs, and BAM, you got a pair."

Ha. Pair.

He smoothed out his shirt. "Anyways, thank's for the help, I--" He stopped as the doors to the common room opened. The batarian from C-SEC had just arrived with Morgan. "Hey buddy!" Frank made his way towards him.

Essul tilted his head to the left in a bow of respect, tilting forward slightly in proper manners as he stepped through into the common area. It was...different to say the least. He wasn't used to seeing so many bi-ocular faces in the room, and it made himself feel a bit uneasy as he looked around and spotted a familiar face.

"You..." Essul said in surprise, a look of mild shock on his face as he saw the damage to franks face, and saw he recognized him, "You...you really do work for a spectre..." was the first thought out of his mouth, caught off guard at seeing this human here, now, alive.

Vayne looked towards the door as the spotted morgan and a familiar face step through. He almost coughed on the delicious kodagu, which he had to admit reminded him of a home he hadn't been to in quite some time, as he saw the batarain.

"Guess my hunch was right then..." he said as he used a small napkin to dab a few drops of the juices before he took another bite out of his meal, bone and all. The batarian was more then just some tourist, but if he was here, vayne had to assume he was at least on their side.

"So good...." he muttered out to himself, a blissful smile on his face as the delicious comfort food washed away all his stress and problems.

It was the little moments that made life great.

Irina took note of the Batarian and turned to Jenus and spoke quietly. "For f*ck's sake! I thought we'd left them on Duellos. I've alreadyt got to deal with that b*tch, and now this ugly bastard."

Jenus knew she didn't like Batarians, and she knew about Elysium so she didn't have to ask. Irina had told her the stories, and she'd seen it in their meld. "Just... try to control yourself. We're in enough trouble, and I can't bail out your ass this time. The CO will throw us in the brig. This is a friendly meet and greet."

Irina understood and nodded.

"By the way, you look great. You cleaned up." Jenus said.

"Yeah, the showers on this ship are fantastic," Irina said, "And get a load of Zenon. She's gonna grow up into quite a looker."

Zenon wandered over to see Vayne.

"That she is," Jenus said and then laughed, "But don't worry. I'll keep my hands to myself."

"Well, since this is a meet and greet, I'd better go and make nice to some of the others," Irina said, "See ya later."

****

Dahlia walked in wearing a full length blue dress with a red front panel and gold piping. She saw Morgan and the Batarian, and she headed straight for them.

"Hi, Morgan," she said, and she turned to the Batarian, "I don't believe we've met. I'm Dahlia T'aniri."

******

Naleena finally arrived, exiting the elevator with a half-smile on her face and her hands behind her back. It was easy to tell something was bothering her, but she wasn't going to discuss it here. This was a friendly meet and greet. She walked to the food line and was greeted immediately by Mira.

"Spectre T'sarius, welcome," Mira said, "What can I get you? The sauteed Thessian Amonite is very good, and it is quite spicy."

"That sounds good to me. I'll have a small bowl over the Serricienne Rice." Naleena said. She took her bowl, introduced herself to the other commandos, and found a more central spot to stand.

As Vayne enjoyed himself, the corner of Jenus’ mouth curled upward slightly.  Quickly, she shut it down and before Irina went off, she asked.  “Was there anything I could get you, redhead?  Something to eat?  Something to drink?  A pair of cuffs?”  She snickered silently in her mind.

Iole set her plate down, brought up her omni-tool display, and ever so slightly lifted the background music playing.  She then followed Frank to where Essul, Morgan, Dahlia and he were, asking the four guests if they’d like anything.

Another team of commandos arrived off the elevator.  Tallis went to greet them, while Mira fetched Naleena’s dish.

"Any kind of drink would be appreciated," Morgan answered Iole.  "Juice if you have it."

Morgan then complimented Dahlia, "You look good.  This, is Essul.  He and I had the pleasure of being shot through the ship's doctor's presence at the speed of light."  He was surprised to find Frank familiar with the Batarian.  "You two know each other?"

Essul looked to dahlia as he gave a polite head tilt, "Essul Ran'perah. A pleasure to meet you..." he said in a pleasant a polite tone, it was one he used often during honorary ceremonies for the higher up officials. He smiled politely as he offered a hand to shake, remembering hearing it was something of a common gesture of friendliness in some galactic communities.

"Frank Eli was present during an altercation I ended up with c-sec. He surprised me by helping some wounded during a engagement with blue suns members...and he tried to liberate me from incarceration..." he said as his expression darkened, "I thank you for that, eli. Though for both our sakes, I wished we'd not tried to escape. It was...not a good experience." he said, clearly not wanting to discuss things further.

Vayne looked from his plate as he spotted zenon, giving a smile as he looked to the human. "You're looking well, zenon..." he said as he set down his plate politely, feeling a bit overdressed in his heavy armor, though regretting nothing. "How have you been holding up?" he asked softly, giving a small and pleasant smile as he asked.
