Essuls eyes narrowed immediately as soon as he heard the exchange starting up, noticing the growing body tension of two fo the asari, and the growing worry of the two others. Silently he set down his desert and put a hand behind his back on instict, his free left hand staying near his torso in case he needed to block. He'd seen biotics on his own teams fight, and it wasn't an affair that stayed between two individuals for long, esepically when furniture and appliances started to fly.

His dark brown eyes scanned the area, looking for anyone else who may either be in danger, or could be of help, spotting one of the human females from earlier who was an associate of the asari. He couldn't act on his own paranoia, he needed to know the situation first. He slowly moved his hand away from his knife as he walked towards Irina, eyes still on the asari interacting with the odd looking human female.

As he approached, he made sure to study irina's body language carefully as he said his next word, "Do you know those asari?" Essul asked as he pointed with a small head jerk towards Mira and Jenus. "And can you handle restraining a biotic?"

Commander Selani started to walk over toward Jenus and Mira. Naleena put her arm out in front of her, and shook her head to let this play out. Naleena had a stasis ready and she mouthed "stasis, but on my order" to Selani just in case. Selani nodded. Naleena pointed she had Jenus, and Selani was to stasis Mira.

Irina stood back watching. She had Jenus' back if anyone piled on.

"I don't know who you are, Batarian, but keep your distance." Irina replied.

Jess looked between Mira and Jenus. Saw the tension. Saw Jenus's outstretched hand. She rose to grab hold of it and pumped it. "Jenus! Well how are you luv? Word to the wise, if you eveer fancy putting me into another bulkhead give me fair warning so I can get into my armor".

"Oh please, do give her warning"! Came Anika's voice from across the common's. "It's the only time she's likely to get into it"!

"Not helping....". Jess said between gritted teeth. ".... Anyway luv. I get why you did it. And as everyone keeps reminding me, it all worked out for the best....".

"The best". Jenus remarked. "If the best is losing face, failing your mission, getting caught red handed and having your people snatched out from under you..... And then getting rewarded for it all with a new ship.... And having one of you made a Spectre"!

"You know.... Naleena wasn't actually part of the.....".

"She was part of the team! And team's get punished AS team's. Or at least they did". Jenus went on. "Only these days it turns out that doing your duty and following order's net's you nothing but your leader's bending over to give a group of thieves, mercenaries, pirates and assassins a pat on the back while we get screwed. But it's okay. Because what the hell. I get it. We messed with your crew, and you were tied in close. So when we took Irina and Frank.... washisface, you put loyalty above all else. Fine. You didn't know Irina and us rode back in the day... I mean who does! But what I like.... is that you stood by them. Even if Irina thinks your a ****** for messing with her friends....".

Jess cast an amused glance over at Irina, but said nothing as Jenus went on.

".... But you just went and tried to help your people! Same way I would whether I knew the low down or not. I understand. We were on different sides then. But now"?

"You don't feel like you have support from above"? Jess interjected.

Jenus stopped mid sentence. "What"?

Jess slipped an arm around her back as she held her hand and guided her to where Tallis was sitting. "Luv.... I've been there. Back before I made captain". She slipped Jenus down next to Tallis and Jess took the time to look at her. "Really? That was you I shot"? Tallis nodded. "Your taking it well".

"Hardcore"! Tallis waved a hand in a fist in the air. Then winced. "Hard.... urgh..core".

"Well, sorry about that luv. Want another sundae"?

Tallis glared back at her.

"That's a no then".

"I'm not the one you should be worried about..." Essul said as he looked back to the group, noting irina's body language as he took a step back from her, hoping the show of giving ground to her might calm her a bit, "There are two asari there who are going to fight, and seeing as their biotics are in play, its pertinent the situation be handled before-" he stopped as the human captain made her move, getting the attention of the entire room and drawing it with her shout, and one of the asari apparently vent out her problems.

The body language however seemed to indicate the clear signs of a fight dissipating. He blinked in surprise, not having believed that two people could be negotiated into ceasing a fight the way he'd just witnessed. "Intriguing...." he said simply as he watched the group, seemingly ignoring irinas presence entierly as he was suddenly interested in where this would all go from here.

Jess sat down between the two and rested her arms along the back of the couch. "You know luv"? She said to Jenus. "Much as I know what it's like being just one of the snipes down in the bowel's of the ship, out of sight of the the decision maker's. Your wrong when it comes to no one looking out for you. Ships captain want's to throw whatever passes as a disciplinary charge at you. But seeing as I was the aggrieved party I'd rather we settle this somewhere where you could throw me around some.... But then your girl over there..."? She pointed at Mira. "Suggested something.... different. Still not entirely sure what she was talking about. You want to find out? We can go and see what kind of punishment she had in store that she'd be prepared to go up against the captain for you...".

Jenus scoffed. "Is that right.... Mira? You'd fight my corner? Because right now it looks like your in her's. See, Jess here get's it. She's loyal. She and Irina, who barely knew her. She fought for our friend when she thought we were the the one's putting her in danger".

"Well to be fair there was no gaurantee we could have caught the one's who got thrown off the roof". Iole interjected. "I mean, I never really thought about the back blast tearing the roof open and when it went off we were out. The other's were being carried away by the speed of the train. Let's see, yep! The only way we could have caught them is if they were thrown backwards from the train while anyone thrown forward of it....".

"That was me". Jess said, raising her hand.

"..... Would have been out of our ability to catch.... sooooo....".

Mira rubbed her eye's. "Iole.... I think we get it".

Tallis nodded. "Behind. Behind".

"Who else want's a sundae"? Jess asked suddenly as she got up and strode over the table, picking up two. "After all the work that you ladies put into this.....".

"The problem with putting this behind us, Mira.... is that what's behind us can affect us in the future".

".... I think you ladies deserve some thanks for.....".

"We're not blowing anyone else up Jenus".

"..... the shindig you put on....".

"What about having our back"! Jenus shot back. "You flare on me. Disappear in a meeting and don't tell us anything".

"..... For us"?

"I haven't had a chance to....".

"....Trust"! Jenus put the word out like a whip crack that got everyone's attention. "I messed up with her. I know that! But Your leaving me out on the line. I can stand that if it was just the Captain and the Spectre, but you...."? She shook her head. "They have it easy. The four of us? We have to face the fights with a gun, and a barrier on the ground. And we've always done it as a team! You may be the boss but you've never put yourself above the rest of us. Until now! Maybe you think ditching us and trying to curry favor with the new Spectre, on a new ship you can.....".

"ENOUGH"!!! Mira's voice rang out through the common's.

Dead silence reined as Mira's aura shimmered slightly as her fists balled, digging her nails into her palm's. "Captain Stone". She said through gritted teeth. "Consider your earlier request to fight Jenus granted. I will see you both down in the cargo bay in ten minutes. Jenus....". She said pointing a finger at her comrade. "....Don't you dare! Don't you dare pretend you, and Tallis and Iole.... Don't you dare pretend you three don't mean anything to me! I'm trying..... I'm trying to do my best and your..... your....". She struggled to find the words, but failed utterly. "...You've never been this bad.... We've never gone through something like the train either. you want to see how far I'll go for you"? She turned to Jess. "Captain Stone. I need you especially in the cargo bay. Please be there".

Jess stood with a melting Sundae in both hands looking puzzled. "Can I..... bring the ice creams"?

Irina was watching this and thought How in the bloody hell is this going to solve anything?

Jenus was on her feet and drifted back over to Irina.

"You really p*ssed her off this time." Irina said. "I thought this was settled between you and the b*tch. You know what the problem is, right? It's two bloody Spectres who aren't on this ship. Both sides had missions that were doomed to fail. It was a bloody pissing contest and neither one cared who got killed in the process."

"That's why you were negotiating?" Jenus asked.

"Yeah, and as soon as I heard your voice I thought about losing friends." Irina said.

"Would you have done it if it was another commando team?" she asked.

"Yeah, but I think the negotiations would have been more difficult, don't you?" Irina said.

"Yeah."

'Well now, isn't this a good old time...' Vayne thought as he kept sitting still and out of this whole mess. He wasn't about to get involved in someone elses fight.

Essuls eyes narrowed as he gave a slight "tch." he'd seen enough to know how conditions on this ship were going to be. While mira was trying to find her words essul slipped away from the party, heading for the door and was out of it while everyones attention was to her.

He walked with his hands in his pockets, heading back to his quarters.

Jess put down her bowls. "Look.... Mira..... This isn't going to work. I don't want to beat Jenus into a bloody....".

"You won't be fighting Jenus". Mira said from a place cold and dark inside of her. "You'll be fighting me".

Silence reined once more as Jess shook her head. "What"?

"You heard me. You said earlier you thought you could get her to blow off steam with a bout? Well... If you want her, you go through me". Mira looked Jess in the eye and seemed to be communicating something with that look that Jess picked up.

".......Alright fine". Jess said.

"WHAT"? Jenus called out from over where she stood by Irina. "Mira your not serious".

"I am serious. No biotics. I'll wear dampener's if I have to but you don't get to touch Jenus without my standing in your way".

Jess leaned back on the table. "So it's effectively two on one huh"?

"That's not....".

"Anika"!

Anika came over and loomed by Jess. "Captain".

"Fancy standing in for me for the first bout"?

Anika looked down at Mira with a pitying look. "Only if she doesn't wear the dampener's".

"I want it to be a fair fight". Mira stated.

"Then don't wear the dampener's". Was Anika's reply. "My huntress taught me to fight against Asari. Biotics and all. With your biotics.... you'd stand a slim chance".

Mira crossed her arms over her chest. "That's not the point".

"Miiiira". Jenus protested once more.

"I know luv....". Jess said, looking over at Jenus. "The point's her right? If we got physical, she could get hurt. So your stepping in to fill her shoes....".

Mira remained quiet and resolute in front of the two as Jess regarded her. Then swiveled her head around to Jenus and slowly walked over to her as she stopped in front of her. Her arm slipped across her lower back while the other slipped behind her head in a hug as she brought her mouth close to her ear. "Never doubt a friend luv. She's a keeper. At best she'd take a two on one to spare you. At worst.... She'd end up in medical. helpless to protect you in the attempt. What we're jumping into you'll need her". Jess stepped back and winked. "Crew luv. That's all of us now. I could use friends out of them to. A lot of mine died recently. So I know what kind of loss you went through thinking you were alone with no one to back you up. Hurts more when it's long time friends, doesn't it. I'll have your back when the call comes in luv". With that Jess stuck her hands in her pocket's. "If you don't mind.... I think that's enough excitement for one evening for me".

Jess turned and started towards the door when a figure darted off the couch and snagged her arm. "Stay! Stay"! Tallis insisted as she pulled. "Sundae! Sundae"!

Jess looked back at Tallis with a lip curled in amusement. "You just can't say no to taking punishment can you? Alright. Eat off. Me versus you. Waddya say"?

Tallis let go and clapped her hands. "Yes! Yes"!

As the two went back to the table Jenus felt a tear form in her eye's as she looked at them, then at Mira who stood where she had been giving her that, 'idiot' look.

"Irina....".

"What"?

"Never call that woman a b*tch again".

Stepping forward Jenus looked down at the ground at Mira's ankle's sheepishly. "Sorry".

"Damn right you are". Mira said enfolding her into a hug. "And I'm sorry if I gave you room for thought I wasn't there for you".

Jenus laughed into her shoulder. "It was probably just me again, right? Sometimes I wonder why you put up with me".

"Good friend"? Iole said stepping in. "Come on you two break it up. We're supposed to be tough as boot's commando's". She looked over to wear Jess and Tallis were poised over two bowl's of melted sundae as if waiting to begin a pistol duel. "At least us three can make that impression. Right"?

"Right". Jenus said removing her arms and herself from Mira's proximity. "Sorry sir. Won't happen again".

"If it does I'll go through fighting that bodyguard....".

"Anika". Iole supplied helpfully

"....Fighting Anika on your behalf".

"Textbrain, you wouldn't last five minutes. That girl's muscle's have muscles. And huntress trained"?

"Don't make me then. Deal"?

"Deal".

The Janiri approached Illium and was picked up by the Asari Naval Base outside of Nos Astra. Commander Selani sat in her chair on the bridge in the CIC.

“This is Nos Astra Base Alpha do you copy?”

“Affirmative, this is CSV Janiri requesting permission to land.” Commander Selani said.

“Request granted. Continue on your present approach vector.” The traffic controller said.

“Copy. Take us in Lieutenant.” Selani ordered.

“Aye aye, Ma’am,” Lt. Jorril said as his hands danced over the flight controls. “We’re in the pipe five by five. Entering atmosphere in 3…, 2…, 1…, hang on expecting some chop. Inertial dampers kicking in.”

Jorril guided the ship smoothly to the landing pad at the base where it touched down, being held in place by both mass effect fields and docking clamps. A spaceway moved and docked with the portside airlock.

Naleena exited the elevator from into the CIC. The com officer saw her. “You have unread messages at your private terminal. One of them is marked urgent.”

“Thank you.” Naleena walked to her private terminal and opened the messages.

Frank woke up in total darkness.  He ran a hand over his face, before sitting up, slamming his face against the lid of the crate.

"F*CK!"

He flung the lid open, and sat up, covering his eyes.

Ugh. Light. Need pills.

He climbed from the crate, and looked around.

What the hell am I doing in the shuttle bay?

Frank started back to the elevator, massaging his forehead the whole time.

"There he is." Septerax laughed as he walked by.

"Seen my other boot?"

"Nope."

Frank grumbled something before stepping onto the elevator. He brought up his omni-tool.

Morgan had been making small talk with Dahlia, doing his best to keep the conversation light, when the commotion over at the table with the commandos reached its peak.  The two watched what happened, as nearly everyone did.  It wasn’t that the breakout of a fight in the middle of a number of military personnel wouldn’t get shut down right away, it was that it would have been the worst ending for an event that was meant to make things better.

But then Jess took everyone through it.

Dahlia and Morgan looked at each other, silently impressed with how the conflict had gone.  Though the ultimate resolution was still coming, the party was beginning to break up calmly, in the way it was intended.  Neither Morgan or Dahlia moved until Jess and Tallis were well under way with their ice cream sundae race.

As Morgan and Dahlia came over, Tallis looked like she was a few scoops shy of the lead.  Mostly because the asari was doing three things that slowed her down:  Laughing, pausing to hold her own head from ‘brain freeze’, and putting plenty of ice cream on her own face in her rush, rather than in her mouth.  Jess finished first, but Tallis went to the end.  On her last scoop, she stood up, stomped around in a circle while holding tightly to her crest, and calling out, “Head cold!  Head cold!”  Eventually, Tallis actually swallowed the last of the ice cream in her mouth, and bent over at the waist, chortling loudly.

“New acquaintance?” Morgan asked Jess as she appeared to revel in her victory.

Iole saw her omni-tool message alert blink and read the message addressed ‘To: All’ from Frankl Eli.  She scowled.

Jenus, sobered from her conversation with Mira, passed by Iole while cleaning up.  “What happened to that human that you were dancing with?”

“Something came over him,” Iole said, doing her best to hide her disappointment.

“Well, I guess today isn’t going the way most of us expected.  Except for maybe Tallis.”

Mira was stacking some trays nearby.  Iole called out to her, “You covered for me during the party.  I’ve got your clean up.  Go get yourself down to the cargo bay and prepare.”

“You sure?”

“Yes,” Iole said.  Mira nodded a thanks and headed to the elevator.

“Textbrain is hardcore,” Jenus remarked in admiration.

Iole patted Jenus on the back.  “That goes for you, too.  I’ll be along but you should be there for Mira.  And you better be cheering her on the whole way.”

Jenus smiled in an uncharacteristically apologetic way.  “I will.”

~ ~ ~ ~

The Janiri’s cargo bay was busy as preparations were made for logistics coming from and going to the ship’s new port of call, however, with what had happened in the common room, some senior officer had ordered a section to be cleared and screened off.  When Mira appeared off the elevator, Quartermaster Praxia simply pointed her in that direction.

Mira came around the screen to see an ample practice combat mat had been laid down behind the screen.  In opposing corners of the mat, sheer practice outfits, arm guard, shin guards, helmets, and in one pile, a container with biotic dampers, had been provided.  Mira went to the pile with the dampers in the far corner, removed her uniform and put on her thin but durable practice outfit, which was white.  As she fastened the guards, she noted their human manufacture, and admired that they would protect well, though padding to mitigate pain was minimal.  Briefly, she examined the helmet, meant to protect from concussions but open faced, and of similarly decent design.

Nobody else was present within the mat area yet, but Mira could hear hushed banter from the other side of the screen.  There was no avoiding the onlookers; in a ship, particularly the size of the Janiri, it would be the talk of the week…at least.  Mira sat down in a lotus position after affixing the dampers, and leaving her helmet to the side.  She closed her eyes and meditated.

Jess held her head in agony. "What she said.... Ugggh". Jess winced as the spoon slipped from her finger's. "Urgh... Why did we agree to this"?

"Hardcore". Tallis chanted massaging her forehead with her open palm.

""Hardcore"". Jess repeated, along with Tallis, who in turn, looked up and laughed that ended with her squeezing her eye's shut and cradling her head in her hands.

Jess looked up at Morgan. "Oh hey luv's. Saw you there before but.... Had a thing to deal with". Jess shook her head slightly, then grimaced as the motion seemed to alight new pain receptor's behind her eye. "Gaah!.... Uggggh..... Anyway.... How looks like we're winding down or I'd take on my next challenger...... Ooooh, grud...... Like needles stabbing the back of my eye"!

Naleena hit the com button. "All team members. Gather in the conference room in one hour." She turned to Commander Selani, "You too. You need to know what is going on."

Selani nodded.

Naleena went back to her quarters for a while to get her materials together. About ten minutes before the meeting was to start she entered the conference room, and sat at the head of the table with Commander Selani at her right, and waited for the team to gather.

When all were in the room and seated she began. "I know we had a long trip, and we just landed. I wanted to say thank you for joining the team. This is only a short stop for some additional work on the ship. I have a meeting with the Synthetic Insights Representative in Nos Astra. The work on the ship should take approximately two days at most. I'm putting up everyone in the Nos Astra Ambassador Hotel in the Space Port. We have the entire 10th floor. The 10th floor also has a conference room. Frank, I'd like you to scan that for listening devices and cameras. If you find any, disable them," She handed out the credit cards, "Here are your credit cards for your expenses. Meals will be expensed on the standard Council per diem so keep your receipts - racial differences have been taken into account." she looked at Vayne. "Yes, I have to sign off on your expense reports before I submit them to the Council, and I hate paperwork. Anything over the per diem, is on you. Prior to my meeting with Synthetic Insights, I have another meeting. Morgan, I'd like you to accompany me to that one.

"We'll be given a shuttle to take to the Space Port. Any travel from there we'll use taxis. Are there any questions? Comments?"

May cause dizziness, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation...

"Hm. Doesn't say a thing about horrific hallucinations..." Frank set the bottle back on the table. "Thanks, doc.

I'll get some over-the-counter stuff at Nos Astra.

This wouldn't be Frank's first time visiting Illium, it was a frequent stop during his smuggling days.  Although it appeared safe and peaceful on the surface, Illium's criminal underworld rivaled that of Omega's. There was always a demand for high-end gear, and the illegal weapons trade thrived.  Unlike Omega, where most of the weapons were either homemade, or standard issue, Illium had a wide selection.   You could find anything, from the basic Avenger, to top-of-the-line prototypes, as long as you had credits, and knew where to look.

"All team members. Gather in the conference room in one hour."

Making small talk with the asari Valkara was brief and when Valkara seemed annoyed and left the room, Avan felt awkward.

Laying on his bed, he thought about the party and remembered not staying very long, only watching 2 asari doing an impressive freestyle dance, then leaving to have a few drinks. The rest seemed a bit blurry. Smiling, he took out his omni tool and turned on the music player app to play a song. Closing his eyes, he finally relaxed for a bit.

Later, a message came on the comm from Naleena asking everyone to gather in the conference room in one hour. Avan got excited. An actual mission, perhaps?

"We'll be given a shuttle to take to the Space Port. Any travel from there we'll use taxis. Are there any questions? Comments?"

"One question." Avan raised his hand.

Naleena nodded at him.

"When will we get to kill anyone?"

Frank looked at him with disapproval. "What kind of question is that?" He smirked.

"A fair one. Look Naleena, and ..Commander, I don't mean to pry on your personal affairs, or seem impatient about what exactly we can all do to accomplish the objectives of the mission overall. But after enough parties and get-togethers, one must wonder if we're planning something legitimate. What will we be doing when the 2 days pass?"

"Don't worry, I got a place here on Illium in case things go down. You ever need a place to use on here that ya can't have on the official books, let me know..." Vayne said as he took the credit card naleena handed out, "Gotta admit, getting set up in a fancy hotel does seem a bit pampered for what we gotta do, but I won't complain. Still going to need to take a taxi back to my flat though..." he said, letting naleena know about his plans while on planet, "Got some business I need to take care of."

"I have a personal matter I'll need to take care of as well..." essul said simply, giving a tilt head bow to naleena as he accepted the credit card. Unlike vayne who was still dressed in his red armor, essul had instead chosen to dress in his usual illium attire. His military formal uniform was close enough to a normal black colored business suit, minus the color and stripes running down the pants, and the 3 horizontal imperial purple bars on his left bicep, and made him look a lot more respectable then his party attire. In truth, he had a previous arrangement he'd made with a certain salarian, and wished to see if fullfilled undisturbed.

"Is there a time frame by which we will be expected to report to the hotel?" He asked, wondering if they had a cerfew for their stay here under naleenas command.

"Do people object to the accommodations?" Naleena asked, "As far as killing anyone goes, I've done my share and I hope that killing anyone on this stop is unnecessary. One of the messages was marked urgent, and I don't know what it was about. It was from someone in the files I was given by the Council. I will ask that you leave your coms open in case I need to gather the team.

"If there are no further questions, I'll adjourn the meeting."

Naleena walked out to the com officer. "Patch me through to Synthetic Insights, Camu Din."

A few moments passed and Din picked up. "Yes... what do you want?"

"This is Spectre T'sarius. Can we move our meeting up to 8:00 a.m.? Something has come up," Naleena said, "I want to get this done as quickly as possible."

"I suppose.... I can squeeze you in," Din said, "My schedule is quite full."

"I need to meet with you at 8:00. This is not for a quote." Naleena said.

"In that case there is no problem." Din said, "I'll see you right away."

Once the meeting was adjourned Eteon rolled her shoulders and opened up her omni-tool. Some free time on the planet would give her the window to run into whoever Deidrus thought was going to be in the same place. She hadn't had a chance to touch down on Illium the first time she'd been there, on the Audron. New experiences, and she didn't have a mission explicitly set yet. She could buy some clothes, look for the 'thing' she was looking for. Bladed, durable. Not a lot of the two which weren't omni-blades and without a nano-forge on her omni-tool, impossible.

Or maybe I'm looking for the wrong thing. Possible, she wasn't a weaponsmith and was only really versed in Turian standard weaponry and Cabal equipment. It could be she had no idea what she was looking for yet. All the more reason to window shop she thought.

Frank looked down at his armored legs.

I look ridiculous.

"You know what? I think I'm just going to wear all of it."

Septerax placed the top portion of Frank's armor on the counter. "Haven't seen the helmet."

"Yeah... it's still in one of those crates over there. I won't be needing it here anyways." He equipped the rest of his armor.

At least I'll be ready for a shootout this time.

Frank took a seat on a couple crates, and waited quietly for the shuttle.

Wonder if the brothers are still in business?

Valkara had not talked to Avan because she was having a little mental stability problem. Feeling a sudden pain at the back of her head, Valkara took a small yellow pill and swallowed it with a glass of water. The asari swayed her hips toward the bookshelf and started to read a short book called 'Asari Commandos: what goes on after the missions!' It wasn't the type of book Valkara read, she preferred human literature and especially ones from the 20th century.

Naleena saw Morgan and turned to him. "Morgan, would you be available to accompany me to these meetings?"

(Morgan time travels, knowing he'll have to go back to the cargo bay before everyone rides a shuttle to Illium :) )

"Sure.  Casual or armed?"
