Vayne tossed concussion grenades at the mutants and they went down with the assistance of fire from Irina and Eteon.

"Avan! Frank! Get your bloody arses down here!" Irina shouted. "Move up to the next barricade!"

Avan and Frank descended the ladder and followed Irina's group to the forward barrier.

"Avan, I need you to use your drone and sabotage to neutralize any serious opposition we're facing," Irina said, "Frank, do you have any offensive tech skills?"

"All the good ones." Frank's omni-tool glowed, as he flexed his hand. "What do you need me to do?"

Irina cocked her head slightly, as if to say 'really?'

"Right. Got it." He nodded.

Unlike the other areas, Engineering was fairly well lit. The mercs were hunkered down in highly defensible positions in Engineering, and had a kill zone set up. Frags were out of the question because they could damage the equipment. The mutants were the most vulnerable because of their size, but they were the least dangerous of the lot.

Irina and the rest of the team had moved to the forward barricade between the walls the mercs had set up. It was a squeeze point that allowed the mercs to spread out on the opposite side and forced Irina’s team to bunch up. This was bad and time was running out.

“I have some smoke grenades,” Avan said, “They’re our only hope. Where do you want them?”

“Toss one left, and you and Frank hit two tangos in the center with whatever tech power you’ve got like incinerate or freeze or something. We’ll lay down suppressing fire on the right.” Irina said, “On my mark, 3 – 2 – 1 – now!”

Avan tossed his smoke. It blocked out the four mercs that were on the left… for a moment until they switched to thermal vision, but that bought enough time for Frank and Avan to get their tech attacks done. Two mutants went down and another was frozen. Avan fired a shot from his pistol and shattered it. That left two mutants and one merc on the right.

“Nice!” Irina said, “We still can’t advance. I’ve got another idea. We’ll smoke the tangos on the right, and Avan, if you’ve got another flashbang, toss that at the tangos on the left. They went thermal and it’ll really blind them. Then give ‘em the same treatment. Just remember to look away, Frank.”

Avan nodded, and handed Irina the smoke grenade. “On my mark. 3 – 2 – 1 – Now!” Irina ordered, and they threw the grenades out. Then Frank and Avan hit two of the mercs with an incineration, killing both. Being better armored than the mutants, there was no splash kill.

This left five. Two mercs on the left, and one mutant and one merc on the right. All at floor height.

Hermes' Spite, Noveria

Previously

The receptionist for EK composites had one of the most tense expressions ever worn by a human when the heavily armored Spectre walked up to the counter and laid his armored hands on the counter.

Why... Is this bird here?

"How may I help you sir?" Asked the young man, his smile was less than genuine and that was obvious even to a species without pliant lips. He looked off to the side at a man on his omni-tool out of direct line of sight before returning his eyes to Deidrus. It was obvious that of all the places to meet a Spectre this was far and away the last place they expected him.

"I'm here on behalf of the Council to inspect your composites research facility for military grading." Deidrus said, lifting his arm and displaying his Spectre ID. "As you are part of Noveria's Development Portfolio you need to be brought to heel on Council Regulatory standards so that the entire portfolio can be expedited."

"Sir," The Receptionist's smile faded. "I do believe there has been a mistake, Eidolen-Kawamura has not submitted itself to be part of the yearly shares ro-."

"You are now." The Turian Sentinel provided a datapad with a recently updated list of the Noveria Development Group extensions. "As you know Noveria like Illium holds a certain amount of freedom in its corporate activities despite both being within Council space. For the sale of the more controversial materials Noverian officials submit a portfolio for close analysis."

"I know this." The Receptionist almost spat but restrained himself. Looking to the side again the man with the omni-tool nodded. "Fine. You will be allowed to view the facility though be sure that a complaint will be filled with Noveria Development for the abrupt nature of your arrival. Some amount of notice beforehand would have been much appreciated."

"Your concerns will be taken to the Noveria board." Callum replied, still standing staggered behind Deidrus. The lack of direct response from the Spectre obviously irritated the Cerberus front-man but he held his tongue.

"There will be a transport to our facility on Loghain ridge in the next fifteen minutes, sir." The human motioned with his arm to an exit to the Turians' left. "It will be an armored personnel carrier designation C89. Please do have an enjoyable journey."

Frank's heart raced.  He'd been in similar situations before, but none in which he had actually had to fight back.  The attack on the Batarian embassy was the only time he had picked up a weapon with intent to kill someone.

"3-2-1- Now!"

He waited for the 'bang', before rising from cover. His omni-tool glowed, as he launched an incineration charge directly into the merc's chestplate. He dropped behind the barricade with his back against it, while the merc burned alive.  Frank closed his eyes tight, placed his hands on his helmet in attempt to drown out the muffled screams.

"Hey! You alright?"

Frank didn't respond, not bothering to notice who had even asked him.

"FRANK!" They placed a hand on his shoulder, and shook him a little.

"No..." He whispered inaudibly, while nodding 'yes', keeping his eyes to the floor.  He returned to a crouch position, and gave a trembling thumbs up.

He checked his omni-tool. "Not much time left." His voice cracked, as he did his best to avoid filling his helmet with vomit.

Amatheniet ducked as stray bullets ricocheted off the heavy machinery above her head.  With her Tempest sub-machine gun, she fired a burst in the direction of the shot, spraying back the enemy temporarily with her burst.  Using the control console as cover, she blurted, “I don’t want to die!”  Reaching up around the top of the console, she started typing commands she knew could alter the course of the Medusa.  Others would need to help to completely change the ship’s course, but with a few keystrokes, she could buy enough time.  These attackers were going to win.  She could surrender.

Before her keystrokes could do anything substantial, two clawed hands grabbed Amatheniet’s shoulders and threw her out into the field of fire.  Rounds pierced her shield and passed through her abdomen.  She fell to the deck, at Golt’s feet, where he was taking cover and preparing himself.  Amatheniet rolled her head to the side to see who had grabbed her, and saw rat man taking cover in the place she had been, staring at her.

“What are you doing?” Golt demanded to rat man.

“She was trying to move the ship out of orbit.”

Golt, towering in his armor, grabbed the front of Amatheniet’s Scorpion armor and crushed the collar plate as he lifted her with one hand.

“No!”  Amatheniet fought back, wounded, feeble against the krogan’s strength.  “The ship can’t survive, we need their help!”

The green glow of light from Golt’s Berserker armor made it look like Amatheniet was staring at a colossal demon.  He lifted her, holding her up above his two and a quarter meter, nearly thousand-kilogram frame.

“You want to switch sides?” Gold rumbled.  “Let me help.”

Golt crushed the collar plate, causing Amatheniet to begin to choke.  A second later, he whipped her like a rag doll while still holding her against a piece of machinery nearby.  Her lower spine snapped, killing her instantly.  But Golt didn’t stop.  He pulled her dead body up, palmed her helmet with his massive, free hand, and crushed it inward until her skull popped.  Then, as Golt’s blood rage overcame him, he roared.

The sound of Golt’s fury was so loud it was near deafening, and seemed to come from all directions.  Golt threw Amatheniet’s dead body towards his enemies, and it didn’t come to rest until it smacked against a bulkhead behind them.  By then, Golt had ripped out the piece of machinery he had broken Amatheniet’s spine against, lifted its astounding weight like a titan, and charged forward with it.

There was no clear shot through the ripped out machinery acting like a shield.  A number of well-aimed rounds bypassed the makeshift shield and grazed Golt, but had no effect.  As he came within range of his assailants, Golt heaved the machinery at them, making most of them dodge out of the way.  By then, Golt was ramming into the one enemy he wanted to kill most, while screaming his name.

“Kavadar Vayne!”

When Golt hit Vayne, the deck shook under everyone’s feet.  It was as if two dreadnoughts collided.  The two krogan went in the direction of Golt’s charge, straight into and through an interior wall behind Vayne.  The debris from the impact and dust cloud obscured the krogan from view.

Eteon watched the two Krogan go flying through the back wall of engineering and swore aloud. That Krogan... Was the literal definition of a 'Juggernaut', something massive, with an inertia which made it unmovable, and a momentum which made it unstoppable. What the Krogan had just done to the human was proof enough that attacking the thing as anything less than an Elcor or Krogan was suicide.

Pulling herself back up from the deck where she had launched herself instinctively to avoid the charging Krogan she focused her biotics to bolster her barrier before putting her back to a wall. She looked to the rest of her team and shook her head. "Either we space that, fire it with the main battery, or we let Vayne kill it. That thing is not a normal Krogan, by far."

Irina had seen what he did to one of his own and shuddered from her position behind Eteon. "That... is the biggest Krogan I've ever seen, but we can't leave Vayne to take him out alone. He'll be crushed, and those  other mercs are going to shoot at Vayne. Vayne can hold out while we take them out.

"First we take out the remaining mercs and whoever that is back there. Once we have the mercs cleared, I say we make a run for the controls, get Avan and Frank on them and stop this ship from going down. Eteon, you and I help out Vayne while they're doing that. Once they're done, Avan and Frank can pile on with their tech attacks. We've got to kill this thing."

Vayne knew as soon as he heard the roar, that the monster of a krogan was going to come at them. The ragdolled comrade of his made for an unexpected diversion, and his improvished shield had done the trick of absorbing vaynes eagle pistol fire. Golt, one of the earliest members of his crew, a freakishly powerful brute even hundreds of years ago, had if possible gotten bigger, badder, and stronger since vayne last saw him. The veteren krogan tried to jump out of the way, stepping towards the side only to fell the full weight of his ex-crewman slam into him. The breif seconds after were a blur, say for the heavy omph that escaped his mouth as he slammed his hump had against something.

The old krogan snarled as he quickly holstered his pistol, rearing his arm back while in the titans grasp as his gloved hand was covered in a glowing holographic covering, the enforcement gauntlets he installed inside helping him as he aimed a punch for the raging brutes arm. He struck the back of golt's elbow, the massive kinetically enhanced blow cracking like thunder as he went stumbling backwards out of golts grasp. He knew the punch hadn't done much damage, a bruise maybe through his armor, maybe a cracked bone. Nothing he knew golt couldn't shake off.

Still, now he had some breathing room.

"So this is where you were hiding, you son of a ******." Vayne said as he got back to some solid footing, tossing the bakara shotgun into his right hand, as his left hand brought up his omnitool, setting up his ballistic blade launcher, "Skulking in the dark, taking orders from a human woman. How the mighty have fallen." He said, every word dripping with condescension and sarcasm. Vayne had lost an eye to golt the last time they fought, lost a crew in the mutiny he helped see through, and had been one of the few of his old crew he hadn't been able to track down when he'd started his new name, his new lie on the side of the law.

Some industrial equipment flung through the air caused the team to dive for cover. Frank remained in position, as the debris flew  overhead and crashed into the wall he was facing. The large krogan followed, pinning Vayne.  He looked to the rest of his team, who had ended up on the other side of the fighting krogan.  He shrugged, before scrambling in their direction.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu-

“You always made me laugh, Vayne,” Golt shouted.  There was another, even louder crack as Golt and Vayne head butted each other, their incredible bulks shifting from the collision.  Both had to stagger clear for a moment from the force, but both came at each other again.  “Telling me I’m answering to a human woman when who you got is this ship’s old captain dragging you into her fight!”

Golt didn’t give Vayne enough time to get a weapon free, grappling him and using his strength to drive him down.  But Vayne’s armor allowed him to adjust its mass, and suddenly Vayne was twice his own weight.  He only hoped the floor could hold out.  The engineering section of the Medusa, fortunately, was reinforced, and so Vayne held.

“You’ve still got some tricks, one-eye,” Golt snarled, and then doubled down with his force.  At first, Vayne did not move, but when Golt groaned with his exertion, he started pushing his enemy back. The deck complained loudly beneath their feet, as two long tons of struggle put boot dents in its surface.  It was incredible; nothing had ever overcome Vayne’s armor before in a battle strictly of strength once he had increased the suit’s mass.  Vayne wasn’t as maximum capacity, but any further increase might literally put the two through the floor.

With all eyes glued on Golt and Vayne, Irina saw her opening. With her shotgun in her left hand, she pulled a concussion grenade from her belt, pulled the pin with her teeth, and sprinted and rolled past the hulking brawlers, making an erratic path toward the two mercs on her left. Bullets flew past her. She released the fuse and let the grenade fly, sliding to the floor and rolling after she did. She lay in a crumpled mess. The grenade detonated killing the two mercs.

"Sh*****! Irina's down! Now what?" Frank shouted.

"Avan, cover me." Eteon said, and she got ready to make her move.

The distraction worked. Irina had been watching the mutants on the other side. Now they were totally engrossed with the brawl, and she rolled and climbed over the barricade, and began firing at them.

"Eteon, stay with Avan and Frank! I've got this." Irina drew her Mattock and began using single shot at the two remaining mutants and merc.

Eteon was in position to hit them from her spot in cover.

"Well at least some things don't change..." Vayne said through gritted teeth as golt bore down on him, feeling like someone had parked a mako on top of him as he worked to push back against golts assault. His armors added mass was suppose to help him shrug off damage, make it more durable and harder to penetrate. But golt was pressing him down, and judging by the growing of the ground, he was succeeding. "Here you are, helping to run another ship into the ground!" He said as he didn't try to go for one of his weapons.

While he couldn't aim at golts body, he could aim for the krogans heavy set legs helping to give him leverage. He activated his flamer as he shot the torrent of fire straight down to golts feet, using golts body position and his own inability to move his arms properly to keep the jet steady as golts shields began to flicker, his armor starting to discolor as the flames began to char his armors less vital areas. However, the flames were just to hopefully weaken golts shields, cut down on the kinetic damage, as vayne reared his head back and slammed it hard into the side of golts face.

The momentum wasn't much, but his armors added mass meant it didn't need to be, inertia was enough to slam hard into the krogans faceplate. Vayne reared back as he slammed his head again, feeling himself get a little bit more out of golts grasp as he reached out with his teeth and bite down hard on one of the tubes feeding into golts helmet. He bite down and pulled back, and tore it out of its socket, hoping it would do something as he quickly spat it out and reared back to slam once more into his former comrades face.

Mercs. The focus was hard to grab when two Krogan, one of them of insane strength, were going to begin duking it out not too far but Eteon managed to get her wits about her. She holstered her carnifex and reached behind her back to pull out her Daedalus shotgun. It was a short, bulky thing meant to be carried with one or two hands, the twin barrels and bladed ridges along top and bottom attested to that. The Cabal carried it in her right hand, left hand free in case she needed to grab something, or more likely, someone. Irina looked suspect since she had just done something most would consider insane.

"Lady thinks she's a Krogan." Eteon growled to herself as she leveled her shotgun with the torso of a merc who was sidestepping swiftly to another piece of cover, looking to pull the pin on his own grenade. As she pulled the trigger the ends of the shotgun shifted and the full rounds collided with the merc width-wise causing him to stagger into cover. Not before one of Irina's rounds clipped his shoulder and made him an easy target for the second blast from Eteon. She called out towards the human; "Watch out for the human that was sneaking around!"

The repeated damage was causing fine fissure lines in both Vayne’s and Golt’s helmets.  The torn tube didn’t do much but cause some life support air loss.  But the distraction did give Vayne the chance to shove Golt back with his last shot.

Golt’s felt the heat of the flamer getting through and he shifted the position of his feet.  Unable to clear Vayne’s weapon, however, Golt went for another tactic.  Vayne’s form became hazy as the surface molecules of his armor began to shift and shred under the effects of a biotic warp.  Vayne was well aware of how bad a warp could be for armor.

The two krogan were lit by the flames, monsters from hell that fought in the smoke, rending metal walls and fabrications around them as they clashed.

Frank, feeling utterly useless, chucked a large spanner over his shoulder.  Maybe it would find a target.  He took another moment to study the Medusa's schematics, before inching closer to his destination.

Irina saw the human Eteon mentioned. Steady... steady... He readied the grenade and she fired, hitting him in his right shoulder. He dropped the grenade next to himself. It exploded on impact.

The last mutant looked helpless and began to panic. He rose from his cover and ran. Irina hit him with a shot in his shoulder. Eteon saw him running and fired two rounds from her shotgun and put him down.

"Okay! Let's go!" Eteon said, and she, Avan and Frank ran past the two brawling Krogan, staying as close to the wall as possible up to the Engineering Control Panels.

The one called Rat-Man was waiting for them.

The last approach to the bridge from the starboard side was a long hallway, meant to assist as part of the last lines of defense to the critical center of operation.  It was one of the few places that had not been redesigned by Iyana, and the only two snipers of her merc team were aiming down it, ready and waiting.

Both were crackshots, veterans of war, highly trained and regularly practiced.  Both used tactical cloaks, with extended battery life and were hidden anyway when visible to all but the most highly observant.  Both were armed with semi-automatic M-97 Vipers, weapons with enough firepower to knock anyone on their back, and then follow up with a finishing shot.  Extremely forgiving weapons that allowed six shots before overheating, and held enough ammunition to keep an enemy suppressed.

It wasn’t any sound that put the snipers on alert, nor sight, nor practical sense.  It was as if their training let them know something was amiss, and in the instant-death, do-or-die world they lived in, they knew not to ignore that feeling.  The salarian sniper aimed, fired and cloaked, while the human woman sniper watched with careful eyes.

The shot hit no target directly, but it did its job in that it caused something to move far down the hall.  It was red in color, a flash of cloth.  The woman sniper snapped a shot off and cloaked as well.

~ ~ ~ ~

Far down the hall, Naleena had already cloaked and was moving forward.  Essul, too, had moved up, ready to cloak but having no need with his skills in movement and use of cover.  Jess and Dahlia were behind them, on opposite sides of the hall, hiding as best they could, and Morgan was last, making sure no one came at them from behind.

The snipers’ first shot cause a flinch from Dahlia.  She was under cover, using the corner of an intersecting hall, but a fold in her robe slid out.  The second shot came and cracked against the corner right next to the asari maiden.  Dahila would have been saved, or perhaps caught only fragments and shrapnel broken from the impact.  But the rounds were inferno rounds, and after the reinforced projectile head broke into the surface it hit, the liquid within spread out and hit Dahlia.

Like all inferno rounds, the liquid was designed to melt through virtually all known substances.  With the velocity, Dahlia’s defenses were penetrated and her ribs were scored deeply.

Eteon entered the room first since her shields and barriers had taken little beating from the firefight in the entrance-way, keeping her shotgun leveled at the twitching, scrawny-looking man standing right in front of the controls. He was grinning, his elongated nose flared as he bared his angular teeth at the Turian. He had been watching the fighters deal with the rest of the trash. He knew that it would take time to fix the course of the ship. Once Golt was done with the other Krogan the rest would be crushed like ants.

Eteon was blocking most of the doorway as she glared at the man. She was conscious of the fact time was of the essence but... He was different. She could feel it.

"You can't shoot." The man hissed, spittle working its way between his mismatched teeth as he rolled his shoulders. "No more grenades, no more guns, no more knives..."

Eteon knew, just as the rat did that he was too thin for any form of munitions to not simply pierce his body and damage the equipment behind him. He held himself low, making it obvious he was a slippery bastard. Grenades would be useful but they had burned all of them on approach, and no form of high explosive would do anything but cripple the ship's systems.

Then it's hand-to-hand. She dashed forwards and was about to grab the man when he leaped up into the ceiling, a hole in the patchwork above giving him an avenue for escape. Before he seemed to be fully up in the air he dropped down again and pulled an arm back to swipe at Irina, his movements so fast that Eteon had to, using audio-sense, warp behind both. She pulled the man off and flung the two of them through a wall, the moment passing as if almost nothing had happened.

She kicked Rat-man off, or tried to though the man scurried away faster than she could connect her blow. Pulling herself up she found herself in a pitch-black room, and while she was trying to catch her bearings only the defense drone at her back shocking the mutant saved her from having his claws pierce the pliant material at her neck.

As the engine team had gone down towards the heart of the ship, Jess had gone the other way and begun climbing towards it's brain.

Not that she'd intended just showing up and asking for the ship back.

First she'd taken a moment a gone to the ship's elevator that connected the bridge to the other level's. Checking around she'd made sure that the camera's and any other camera were gone. After that, she'd pulled out several of her flashbangs from under her robes and set them at the door. Waiting a moment to key in the lift's destination and then crossing a few wires to illicit a delay in the time it would take the lift to ascend, she set the grenades to motion detection, then backed up as the lift door's closed.

Confident everything was set at her end she began to move towards the manual access ladder that led up when she suddenly thought of those of her group who might come up from behind. Looking around she spotted the maintenance tool hatch further down and jogging over she opened it. Found what she needed, then jogged back and, happy that everything would be okay, hurried over to the ladder and began the long climb through the tight space.

The sign, "Out of Order" hung on the elevator control panel.

Frank wasted no time getting to the controls.  He had a pretty good idea of what he needed to do, kinda sorta.

...pull the red lever and start an uncontrollable reaction surge that will blow the back half of the ship to smithereens...

...next to the blue lever... it shuts the whole engine down...

...the black handled ones... it's all in the notes...

"A big f*cking help those are."

How old are these?

Frank closed his omni-tool.

"Okay... "

He pushed six of the black-handled levers on the right side of the board to their 'off' position.  The Medusa's course corrected.

"Well, that was easy. enough." He dusted off his hands.  "We should probably check on Vay--."  He was interrupted by a metallic clank.  The levers had returned to their position.

"Hmph." He reached up to pull them once more, but they were now locked in place.

"Well f*ck me." He opened the schematics back up.

The bridge still has control.

"I'll fix that. Keeping his eyes on schematic, he walked to the other side of the control panel, and reached for what should have been an orange lever.  His hand touched an empty hole.  The switch had been relocated.

Frank quickly removed his helmet, and dropped it to the ground.  He slid his goggles on, and scanned.

He followed the lines up the beam that the controls were mounted on, eventually stopping high above him.

There.

Frank checked his omni-tool, and sighed.  There wasn't enough time to cut into the beam to sever the connection.  The only option was to climb.

"Rezal! Rezal, come here!"

Frank waved Avan over.

"Yank on these like a madman." He touched at the six black-handled levers.  "I have to go up."

It was done.

Sweat poured off Anika's brow as she slowly pulled her hands away from the bomb lest her sudden withdrawal somehow set it off. In time she'd recognise how silly the idea was. But after carefully cutting and replacing parts out of it, her nerves were frayed enough that she figured she could avoid the overly cautious approach.

In the end, thankfully, the bomb had been simple and straightforward. It would have been good to have known that before she started so that she hadn't had to waste so much time looking it over. As it stood, she was late. Late to get in on the action. Who knew if Jess and the other's had made it in okay?

Ah the hell with it. Getting up she moved past the bomb and magwalked with more agnosing slowess towards the command section. As long as the welder's stayed dormant during the Medusa's movement she could get past them and access one of the command sections airlocks. Maybe not the smartest plan, but then again, the ship was going to dive into the planet below. There wasn't much left to lose at this point in time.

As her boot's clunked against the hull she turned her head this way and that. The rig's hadn't been acting normally she remembered seeing. She wanted to see if they'd been up to anything they shouldn't have

"F*cking son-of-a-b*tch!" Dahlia screamed, ripping the burning cloak off of herself, and ducking behind the nearest cover. Incendiary rounds contain a bit of white phophorus that ignites on impact when exposed to air. It had burn a hole in her armor and through her skin. The cloak burned up away from her, and she broke open a vial of medigel and slathered her wound with it. The medigel would keep it sealed until it healed. Fortunately there was no bleeding because the heat cauterized the wound. She saw the white phosphorus burning in the floor behind her.

"Thank the Goddess." Dahlia was worried the doctor would have to perform surgery.

***

Naleena cloaked and silent was on the side creeping up to the sniper that had fired. He was cloaked. The sniper fired another round, this time at Jess and the round hit the wall as Jess was moving erratically. Dahlia saw the muzzle flash and his momentary decloak and slapped a stasis field on him. Naleena heard the biotic field hit, and moved quickly to his vantage point where she waited patiently for him to come out of the field. When the field released, she put a hand on his forehead and the back of his head and snapped his neck in a quick, violent motion. One sniper down.

***

Irina had turned her fire to assist Vayne whenever Golt was exposed, peppering him with armor piercing rounds from her Mattock. She was thinking about doing something completely crazy. It could get her killed, but if she was quick, she could get out of his way, and that would be to use her shotgun and move in close. She would have to be very careful not to hit Vayne. Perhaps concentrate on some part that doesn't have redundant organs, like one of Golt's legs. Her Mattock seemed to be having little effect.

The salarian merc sniper was slain by Naleena’s neck snap, but the Spectre missed spotting the woman sniper across the hall and under cloak.

The woman saw how adept her asari enemy was and made a decision to slip away.  With a deft hand, she tossed a cryo grenade and slipped back into the shadows.  Naleena heard the movement, knew the threat immediately, and dove to avoid the blast.  The outer fringe of the cryo explosion caught her, and she was momentarily slowed, though her armor protected her from any of the much worse effects of the grenade.

Closer towards the bridge, the midnight blue tattooed lady saw the cryo effect, and it cued her to act. She rolled out into the apex of the hallway with a Revenant and let forth a narrow stream of bullets where the explosion had come from.  Naleena and the others in the hall were able to take cover and protect themselves, but the suppressing fire gave the sniper a chance to fall back, disappear again, and line up for another shot.

Running to the levers, Avan began to pull them with as much strength as he could. Frank quickly climbed up the to get to orange lever.

"Do you, by chance, know what you're doing?!" Avan yelled as Frank was pulling the orange lever. "Yeah, this is what disables the bridge's controls of the ship! Are you pulling on those!" Frank yelled back.

"Yes, so what's happening n-" Avan noticed through the windows that the Medusa was beginning to change it's direction. He smiled at the notion that they weren't all 2 seconds from death anymore. "Good work, Frank!"
