Romance is the only reason I ever picked up a Bioware game in the first place.

I can understand that. I think people take it too beyond "optional content in CRPGs" at times though.

I've always seen it as a potential bonus.

"Hey I can totally troll this character and then go on to rule the Galaxy! Huzzah!"

Or

"Awwww yeah snarky banter with mah Drow Waifu! Godhood be damned!"

When its good it's actually relatively fun, when it's bad it gets cringe worthy fast.

I prefer the option of "player sexual" an that reason is the meta game, when i play a bioware game without doubt you will be talking anything between 50 - 100 play throughs if not more an only after say 2 -3 play throughs of them will i know which companions i like an which i dont, with all them play throughs and now with the race choice DA:I has combined with playing as both genders without doubt just like in the mass effect series and just like DAO and DA2 i will have a preferred LI, unlike DAO though i wont be stuck on a specific gender to RP my game in and for me that is a huge plus

Well that sucks.

I was thinking more along these lines:

...but that works too.

But how good is the combat in those dating sims?

I thought we were in agreement, but I have to confess this question puzzles me as mostly being a non sequitur

I understand that different people like to play different ways -- I only play female characters, and I'll play heterosexual or female romances available to female player characters, but if a love interest isn't my type, like Merrill, or if I don't feel it fits in my RP style, like pursuing any romance option in ME2, I'll abstain.  I understand that I'm picky, and I don't feel like I lose out by not playing male characters, or playing out romances when it doesn't feel right...that's just me.

Even if I don't get my own selfish wishes for romance options, I just want as much choice available to players as possible, because I know how it feels to be left out, and the times that I've been included mean something to me.

Have to admit, I've never had a LI I wasn't interested in checking out for one reason or another.  I definitely play more female characters than men, but if I need to play a guy to romance someone I'll try it.  And usually find something about the character that makes me like them even more, at least in Jack's case that's what happened,   Miranda not so much, ended up liking her as a friend more than LI.

Agree, I also just want as many choices available as possible, well, not everyone in the game, but 6 would be nice.  I wonder if this will still be open in the morning.  It was nice.

In my own personal life experience, I've had a group of teenage boys shoot me in the back from a car with paintballs at close range while I was standing at a bus stop with my girlfriend.  I've experienced having a man follow me and a lesbian friend down a street, late at night, threatening us with corrective rape because we had short hair and looked "butch."  I've had a girlfriend disavow our relationship and claim that I was obsessed with her, because she was afraid of being outed.  And those are just the things I'm willing to talk about on a mostly anonymous public forum.

So no, I don't feel like I have a "right" to sexual intercourse with any given bunch of polygons.  I am well aware that there are far more important issues when it comes to the LGBT community.  But I do feel that, as a gamer, I have the right to express my desire for more inclusion of LGBT content in games, whether the devs listen to me or not.  And I feel that I have the right to want the same level of escape and wish fulfillment that most straight (and mostly male) gamers take for granted.

This thread is in the suggestions forum.  Nobody, as far as I know, is demanding anything.  But as long as people are allowed to make suggestions, and talk about what they'd want in Bioware games, I'm going to chime in, and I really don't care if someone thinks I'm a pathetic, basement dwelling virgin demanding the perfect video game waifu.  I know who I am and what I've been through, and I also know that, as a consumer, it doesn't hurt to ask for what you want out of a product.  I may not get it, at least this time around, but if there's even a slim chance of influencing development of future games, then I'll keep posting.

I missed this...

To be fair, it was mostly in jest. Do many dating sims even have substantial combat?

Well that sucks.

I dunno why you even care, but if you want to feel sorry for me, that's your prerogative. I'm perfectly happy. I play a wide variety of games for a wide variety of reasons. I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything.

Bioware is not a unicorn, okay? I can boot up any one of the literally dozens of other games that are in my house right now to satisfy any desires that aren't related to making out with imaginary men.

Understatement

Indeed. It is assured that other games, perhaps maybe those dating sims, do romances better than BioWare.

I don't want to play dating sims. I don't like romance stories. I like action/adventure stories.

I want to be Conan the Barbarian. I want to be James Bond. I want to be Batman.

And while I am being those characters, I want to suck ****.

Bioware delivers that. I buy their games. Everybody wins except insufferable twats who can't mind their own damn business.

The love scenes between Arwen and Aragorn in LOTR probably made up only around 5% of the content of all three movies, (and that I admit is just a really rough estimate.)

Because of that, should they have just removed all those scenes from the movie, anyway? After all, people just want to see Aragorn slaying bad guys, not him dreaming about Arwen or almost getting into a love triangle with Eowyn.

Or do they?

Is combat the only focus of a CRPG? Again, forget romance. If that's true, I repeat, why is there any dialogue in CRPGs at all?

After all, dialogue takes away from the main focus of combat (which you seem to be positing is the central aspect of the game.)

You can't have it both ways.  If you don't want to metagame, then you can't use the fact that they are LI's in other playthroughs as your evidence.  Therefore, if you only played as a female, then Anders and Fenris are straight, Isabela is bisexual, and Merrill is gay.  They're not playersexual, so your argument is moot.

If you do want to include the fact that if you play as a male, their sexuality appears different, then you also have to include that data to support that Anders is bisexual, so your argument about him is also moot.  You can't double dip and try to selectively choose what evidence you want to use.

If I don't want to metagame and I don't choose to actively flirt with everyone I don't know their orientation outside of Isabella, those only come out if you flirt with them actively.

This must be cumulative among all available companions, because no single one has that much time devoted to that.

Yup, you just confirmed that you are Plantiff. Have your yaoi games run out of steam that you must now buy every single product with a romance option when romance is not even a main focus and has little work put into them?

I don't play "yaoi games" and I never did. Prior to Saints Row IV, which I purchased without knowing about it's same-sex romance feature, Bioware games were the only titles I played that offered such an option.

Since you apparently can't read, I'll dumb it down for you as much as I can:

Same-sex romance is the cherry on top that prompts me to choose Bioware titles over otherwise very similar games. At no point did I ever say that all I look for in gaming is dating sims. This is a strawman you built to try and discredit me. Because you don't actually have any legitimate points, and all you're actually interested in doing is bullying anyone out of the forums who plays differently from you..

I missed this...

My point in posting my real life experiences with *real* issues I faced due to being openly lesbian (I now identify as bisexual, but not at the time of those incidents) was that I am well aware that there are much more serious issues facing the LGBT community, but I still care about having fun when I play a video game, which is why I continue to post in suggestion threads like this one.

Serious question, why are you trying to get this thread locked?  If you don't care about this issue, why is shutting down discussion important to you?
