A curled mustache mage of high society who drinks tea with extended pinky, is super polite, enjoys all the finer things in life but is an evil as **** mother fucker who murders babies for blood magic.

As much as I want a Magister companion (or even just another mage companion at all), that would definitely put me off from including him in my party.

I'm weird like that.

No I like the description of him being a powerful magister but not being a corrupted one.

Yeah, same here.  I'd also prefer a nice Tevinter magister (like Mae) over yet another Tevinter "Blood Mage Rah!" stereotype that we've seen in the game repeatedly.

If he's Dorian, DHMG could be the "surprise meatballs" companion food!  They outwardly look like every other meatball, but they're made with something special.

Dorian Pavus is a Tevinter magister. The title conjures fear of arcane master who once enslaved nations. Dorian may wield the power of the magisters, but he delights in not being what you would expect. Brazen and clever, this outcast is on a crusade to rid his homeland of its corruption."

Maybe our Inquisitor/party assumes he's as power hungry and ruthless as the magisters in Minrathous, but he has a surprising ingredient that makes him different from the rest (compassion, a desire to reform Tevinter, strong moral compass, what have you).

As I recall the "surprise meatballs" explanation from the devs was that the meatballs were in a potluck and they were put with the desserts.  So, everyone who ate the meatballs was expecting dessert and not meatballs.

That said, surprise meatballs might fit for exactly that reason.  Tevinter Magister.  You expect him to be a horrible, corrupt person.  He actually turns out to be more wholesome and have more to him than that.

I do think he is most likely "Dorian," and that he's also probably an arcane warrior--or perhaps the sword is only there to decorate his armor, or be used in cut scenes.

Since when it was accepted by a general view that a mage can't have some sort of swordarm at hand?

@Brass_Buckles I didn't know that about the meatballs!  Pretty funny, thanks for sharing :)  I've only seen the whole list out of context

David Gaider also said just today that the reason Maevaris Tilani, a Tevinter magister from the comics, won't be in Inquisition is because when the comics were written it was too late for her character concept to make it into the game.

I'm going to be boring here.  For the longest time, he's looked like Stroud only with a different weapon.  As far as why he's not wearing traditional Grey Warden armor, there might be some good reasons.  As David Gaider pointed out, not all the people we see in the concept art are companions.  Besides, when it comes to the dramatic hands, Stroud is Orleasian after all.

A picture comparison:

270px-Stroud.jpg

The War Room and other concept art looks like this to me, only with the stubble cleaned up.  That's just my two cents.

I'll keep reading the ideas you guys come up with.   I'm done being dull.   :P

in another thread about him, i thought maybe on him too.

my other theory (if he is an established character) is

I wish I was kidding.  I got to that (it's ~level 25-30 or so) and rolled a guy.  Stripped her stuff and deleted the character.  I liked Kira more anyway.

It could have been scrapped, but I really hope not.  The thought of meeting a nice Tevinter magister in the games would be welcome, especially since Mae couldn't be included at this time.  Too late in development for them to add her.  However, just like with a Templar viewpoint, a Tevinter companion that isn't Fenris might be able to give us more of an idea of what that society is really like.  Not just from more of an outside view like Fenris or Fenyriel but a real window into that culture.

mmmm kira

WHY DO YOU TOY WITH MY EMOTIONS?

For some reason, I thought he had done voice work, but the last time I looked him up was like five years ago so that impression/memory is probably wrong.

Yeah, it's disappointing. And I was really surprised that it was too late to put Mae in when she was first designed, given that it was way back in mid-2012 or whatever.

"Maevaris came into being too far into DAI’s development process to be a party member for that game (ironically, by the time fans know nearly anything about a game the time for “big” suggestions is over). Like I mentioned before, however, I’m not done with her just yet. And that’s as much as I’ll say."

He did say, though:

"That doesn’t stop us, however, from using her in the future, if we care to, or from having other Tevinter (or, yes, even transgender) characters you simply don’t know anything about yet."

Hm, that does look like him.

But wouldn't Alte be really old now though? Dawn of the Seeker was 20 or so years before Inquisition.

i couldn't care about the character being transgendered, things like that escape me, i just loved the relationship she had with Varric, plus how she'd have a grudge against other mages at this point.

I don't know if his name will be Dorian, but I have a very strong suspicion that Dramatic Hands is Tevinter in origin.  Heroes of Dragon Age has a Tevinter Battlemage character you can get, and his outfit looks pretty similar to Dramatic Hands' outfit.

That does not mean he won't turn out to be Orlesian anyway.

That's actually why I'm mostly hoping he's at least a Battlemage

I do hope that DHMG is a Tevinter Magister, maybe even an Atlus Mage,

Maevaris deserves to be in her Element if she's a companion. removing her from Tevinter is probably a bad idea.
