I wonder how their version of Chant looks, considering it's a rather Anti-slavery work. If the anti-slavery sentiments are still in there I would guess people will be anti-slavery, considering its being the MAIN religion in the country.  Plus, economic factors ought to be very important.

I think it's probably a cautionary tale about the abuse of magic.,

How Andraste's crusade to free the slave , wasn't such a big deal.

The main thing being Hessarian killing her with the sword of mercy , and getting an epiphany.

He saw the "light" and turned away from the Old Gods .Since at the time , Tevinter was recovering from the First Blight ...

I think Hessarian is probably more important than Andraste for them.

I mean the Divine , priest etc are all men .

So, yeah, even if slavery is considered a norm good people will still understand its evil. Greedy and selfish will try to save it, though and keep the country away from progressive development

Wasn't about whether it's normal or not, but that owning one is alone enough to label you "evil" regardless of anything else. Is a black and white view to have.

I noticed Dorian had a few mentions of the Maker in his demo dialogue - it's kinda easy to forget that Tevinter also has the Imperial Chantry, and that their version of the religion is actually different from the rest of Thedas.

(Also, not everyone is a dragon-worshipping cutist!)

The Chantry in Orlais and Ferelden contributes to the suppression of the elves though, even to the extent of discriminating against them in scripture, so it's not exactly the case that the church groups are liberal paradises either.

Some actions are gray. Some are black and white. Thinking that everything is shades of gray is as dumb as thinking everything is black and white.

Slavery is bad. You cannot own people and think that's ok to do and be a good person. Your example isn't good because even if you buy a few slaves to save from injury, 1, you're just increasing the demand for slaves in general with your money and encouraging more people to be kidnapped into slavery, 2, you should instead be using the power and money you obviously have if you can afford slaves to try end slavery so instead of a few people being saved it's all the slaves.

I don't know if I could ever convince you but honestly I think this is such a settled thing that arguing about it is dumb and I'm out of this argument. I don't care what you reply. Slavery is bad no matter how 'nice' you treat the people you dehumanize by owning.

Considering how economically dependant Tevinter is on slaves, I don't see it ending any time soon.

To be fair, the United States was even MORE economically dependent on slaves than Tevinter appears to be, and they survived abolition in one piece. Er, technically two pieces at the time of abolition. But you get what I mean.

And yes, slavery is a detestable practice no matter how nice you are about it. Owning another person is anathema to not only me, but many other people. And no, I don't have the stomach to roleplay as someone who supports it or is ambivalent towards it. But I DO understand that in a culture that practices that evil, the people themselves aren't all cartoonishly villainous as a result. There has to be a diverse moral spectrum, even among characters that own slaves. And honestly, if I were raised in a society where slavery was the norm, I'd probably be more likely to safely adhere to how I was raised than to question it openly and take that risk. (And in the real world, I'D have been on the slave side of things.)

But all that is kind of immediately secondary to the fact that I was only gone for a total of 24-ish hours and DORIAN WAS BOTH CONFIRMED AND SHOWN. AND HIS VOICE WAS A THING THAT COULD BE HEARD. OH MY GOD. EVERYTHING'S COMING UP PAVUS.

I am not sure we have enough info to compare the economy. And yeah, it's rather hard to imagine living in a drastically different society so I honestly don't know what kind of person I would be, were I raised in a wealthy mage family in a long standing magocracy.

In fact to make up for the talking over they decide to just show us him reciting random lines from previous DAO games just so we can hear his nice voice.

Is it just me or Dorian looks kinda tiny? If he's a gay option, I would feel kinda sorry for him since my first Inquisitor will be a Qunari.

Kinda hard to tell. We saw him standing next to two massive qunari and a tiny elf. It makes it hard to gauge size. We need to see him next to some humans.

I'm sure it's alright. I mean, I'm 80% positive he's going to be the M/M option and thus out of romantic reach for all my Inquisitor concepts, but Maker knows I'm fine with that. Dorian Pavus as a character concept is one of the most intriguing, and one of my most anticipated, things about this game, whether my Inquisitor gets to snog him or not.

There is no black and white, any morals you have are based on values you have, everyone has different values. I'm OK with eating cows, another think it's downright evil. Values. You can call me as dumb as you like, but values you have, and I have aren't written into the fabric of the universe. They are not right, but I'll still stand up for it. Just like you will, we are bound by our subjective perceptions of things, we are not objective beings. There is only gray, I don't like it, but I don't see myself as dumb because of it.
I am not OK with owning slaves, but I'm not OK with labelling anyone who has slaves in a world where you're raised to think it's quite normal as evil.
1. People cannot always perceive the long term outcome of their actions, that isn't a reason for me to consider someone evil. They wanted to do some good, that is to me important.

2. You assume everyone who has slaves, could afford that. In Rome you'd find slaves amongst the working classes as well.

I am a fan of smaller guy though. It would be kinda cute if he has a hot temper as well. If he's like that, then I would probably romance him in my first playthrough instead of Cullen. I was a bit cold toward him at first, but this is the first time we had a dark haired LI. I have always favored mages over templars anyway. Sorry, Cullen, you have to wait if Dorian is an M/M option.

He can always be a smaller guy if you play a qunari.

But honestly I don't think they have different body sizes in a single race/gender combo, do they? I assumed all human males had the same body model and all elf females have the same etc

I don't think so, but a shorter stature would fit him more since that's how I always imagine him. I don't think there would be a lot of different body sizes since Bioware stated that female dwarves weren't in DA2 because they see it as a waste of resource. I guess since I'm gonna be playing as a Qunari, it wouldn't matter. I'm in the fangirl mode right now, so I'll probably draw Dorian with a Qunari inquisitor fanart. lol

If Dorian is tiny, imagine what he would look like on the variety of mounts we'll have. The horse in the demo was pretty big, and that was stood next to a Qunari.

DORIAN RIDING ON A GIANT LIZARD!

Or maybe Iron Bull will be his trusty steed! (I want them to have an epic bromance).

Slavery is bad.  Owning another person is bad.  It doesn't matter how nicey nice sugarplumdrops you treat your slave, you are implicit in enabling an ongoing system of oppression and abuse.  Regardless of values and environment, that makes you not good.
