Okay... but Dorian was named after the writers had a discussion where the old Hercules cartoon came up.
In other words, it's reaching a bit to suggest that sharing a name with an LGBT character is evidence of anything.

(Now I need to go re-watch the Hercules cartoon, so thanks for that.)

HA! Take that, EP!
Reading that, my mind played the lines of Sebastian "Yes luv, rein it in." Tsk, best not be wrong near you, or I'll gain third degree burns. Eheh.
Didn't like the dandy image I assume?
Edit: OOPS, misread your post. No, I think it's indicative of a previous relationship with Felix, not Alexius. Alexius is like 100 years old and already has way too many creepy Danarius vibes.
A previous relationship often seems to be how the developers signpost that a character is lesbian or gay. It's an extremely unambiguous way of telling that information to the player, in a way that in this case also leads to more pathos.
Dorian must have previously mentioed that he cared for Felix, since the Inquistor's line indicates she already knew that fact - this seems to be a pretty significant development. They can't be talking about Alexius, because it was Felix that died a long time ago.
Felix would be a little more amenable, and could make more sense with the "Maker's breath, what have you done?" in seeing somebody that you used to care for being violated for some cheap imitation of life at a terrible cost. When I read the initial description I interpreted it as having cared for Alexius, and that "he died a long time ago" related to him losing his humanity or some such, perhaps when whatever is up with Felix goes down. Also, I'm not sure I've seen anyone else bring this up, but in the demo when Alexius is hovered over it looks to me like one of the effects is 'Tainted'. So, there's that possibility as well.
I understand the simplicity in having a previous homosexual relationship to convey sexuality to the player, but I'm kind of over that trope. Not that I feel like all LIs should be virgins and never been attracted to or in love with anyone before your inquisitor, but I'd prefer their sexuality (whether it be straight, bi, gay or otherwise) to be defined through their interactions with the Inquisitor, and not always 'I need your help with a friend of mine. We also banged *raise eyebrow expectantly*'. Combine that with tragic ex-love and just... I don't know.
Seems like Leliana and Dorian have a bit of a rocky relationship, but people have also mentioned that Leliana might be there by circumstance and not plot necessity, so I wonder if they chafe in general, or if in a different playthrough they'll be the best of chums. I'm very curious to see how all of these different actions you choose to do affects not just the story but the characters and their beliefs/relationships now.
It's ok at least it was a sensible theory. Beats those that say he's gay because of his mustache. i get the Freddie Mercury reference but its rather silly lol.My mistake

Yeah, this trope is quite unfortunate, hope we will move beyond it.

With Gaider implying there's race restrictions in DAI's romances, who do you think Dorian would be into? I'm really hoping he likes elves, because I want to romance him as one.

Hmmm, I seem to have missed it, can I get the link please ?
Prayer circle for elves, tbh. But man, I'd really like it if there was no restrictions when it comes to the Qunari.
Thank you. It's an interesting decision, if they went there, that is. I foresee forum-wide rage though, DA community tends to value romance plots a lot.

One possible "upside" to that kind of equal-opportunity Carth Syndrome is that it doesn't just convey sexuality to the player, it also ups the number of same-sex relationships that "exist" in this universe.
Not that we're counting, or that it's especially crucial, I suppose, but in the course of revealing that some LIs are gay or lesbian there was a point made that they'd possibly bring up their sexuality regardless of whether you romanced them - in the same way that Bioware's straight characters have done for years. Ordinary people do mention past relationships, and I think it matters slightly more in this case, if the son of the person holding a friend captive is someone with whom you once had a relationship.
If Dorian did have something with Felix (it doesn't even need to be an actual relationship - unrequited admiration might work just as well), and it comes up in conversation with the player regardless of whether they're romancing our favourite moustachioed magister, that could be interpreted as A Good Thing in terms of LGBT visibility in the franchise.
(Unless he actually did mean a relationship with Alexius, in which case
)
Interesting. I wonder if this means the Varric fans will be getting what they want. I kind of hope it doesn't, purely because I want a happy ending for Varric & Bianca and I feel that would never happen if he were an option for the PC. As long as Dorian isn't only romanceable by dwarves though, I'd be good to go still. Though I'm still hoping that Dorian is bi in case I decide to do a female playthrough first.

The obvious one would be a restriction on qunari, I guess. But maybe that's too obvious?
Depends on Dorian's view of the qunari in general, maybe, and we have absolutely no idea about that yet.

Without seeing the demo for ourselves (pleasepleaseplease!) we can't be sure on what the person saw that led them to believe Dorian was a male romance option. Until I read that part I assumed they were talking about caring for Alexius (being a former mentor). But even they couldn't clarify what it was that gave them this feeling, so it's probably nothing. Dorian and Qunquis could be talking about Felix, Alexius as mentor, Alexius as old flame, we'll just have to wait and see for ourselves.
If they had a relationship then it's kinda weird that Dorian is so calm about Lelianna slaying his ex-lover
Undead ex-lover, but still...
Can I just say, seeing all of our companions in the war room is glorious. It emphasizes their role as leaders, too. I don't think we've sat around and discussed strategy with all of our companions since ME1.

The only thing I can think of is that it's still a mystery why Felix was (originally) dead. He seems like a significant character and we don't really see what prompted Alexius to raise his son from the dead, or what happened in the Alexius/Dorian/Felix backstory to make them fall out.
(Then again, "I know you cared for him" could be a totally innocent comment about Dorian being sad for his former master's death. I associated it with Felix because of Dorian's supposed reply that whoever it was had been dead a long time.)
It just seems neater that he means Felix, I guess.
