Iunno, kind of? From my end, Alistair was a very eager (albeit with no experience) beaver where as Cullen? Him even trying to mention a word associated with sexual things and he can barely get it out. I think his severe sexual repression could make things preeeetttyyy intense.

EDIT: I did not hear any sort of accent... the voice was soft enough but I didn't hear anything. Why are we certain that he has an East Indian accent?

Gaider popped in earlier to say Dorian's VA is East Indian. Check the Bioware posts from today in this thread.

Wasn't on this thread. Someone ( I think Pinecone) quoted it to this thread.

Well, I guess we'll have to wait and see...

Still prefer Dorian though, his looks as well

I really really hope it's an indication of him being bisexual instead of gay. Because I'm apparently the only straight woman on the planent who doesn't want Cullen. And Dorian is well, smart rebel magister and a snappy dresser.

Nah, I'm in the same boat... I don't care much for Cullen, and the magi origin was my first/canon runthrough on Origins. He doesn't do much for me.

Fair speculation. I still see some hints of a deeper relationship.

what exactly does deeper mean? like do you assume they were close or do you consider romantic/sexual relationships to be  idk ~more~?

also,if you don't mind me asking; what are you basing that on? (I don't want to invalidate your interpretation or anything, just curious :) )

Edit: btw I hope you didn't confuse Wissenschaft with me

I immediately checked to see if the Indian hottie from Heroes was British/East Indian but alas, he was born in Illinois.  -_-

And shortly thereafter, the horde stormed the doors, having clearly killed Sera.

I still think she was knocked unconscious.

However it would be interesting if your choice of companions can get them killed, like ME2's final mission.

That would be obnoxious. I like having a certain party(like a lot of people) I don't want to have the possibility for them to die and me to be punished just for bringing along characters that I like.

It would be I agree. I only would accept it if it was REALLY telegraphed like ME2's suicide mission (hello? it's in the name lol) where you had to pick the right person for the right job.

If you're careless, then sometimes paying the price makes for a more interesting story. Again, it has to be very obvious.

Yeah I don't think Sera was dead in that Demo, why would they show a demo where the companion they are currently advertising is killed. It's a massive spoiler for one thing.

Yeah it was an odd spot to end it there... it's either a really big spoiler or a terrible red herring like a dream sequence (they're close to the fade right?)

I'm thinking it's probably similar to ME where you have to be friendly with people or they die

... and usually they'd heavily telegraph that anyway, like on Virmire or with some of the fatal combats in DA:O. Random companion deaths out of the blue are satisfying to pretty much nobody.

^Dunno, the Suicide Mission had some random behind-the-scenes numbers deaths depending upon who you took with you on the final push.  Damn Mordin kept dying because I took "high numbered" characters like Garrus & Wrex and thus the Hold The Line score was too low...something they never broadcast in the game.  UGGGGH.

A demon throwing her though the door is a good possibility. I don't like the idea of going into knowing Sere and Iron Bull are going to die. I know characters will die, but I would like to learn that as I play.

We seem to have a similar taste in men Lucy. Way, way back in the day (like, pre-Origins, still in high school back in the day) I seem to remember a bit of bonding over a shared love of all things Alistair and Atton Rand. And now Dorian. Remind me to pm you for your approval before agreeing to any future dates.

Well I'm basing my assumptions on the same context that others are: the summary of the demo video.

But if you insist I'll break down my reasoning:

What I read was that Dorian seemed very angry and conflicted throughout the demo.

Dorian was quite taken aback by Felix and questioned Alexius for what he has done.

Given that Felix looked like dead Kristoff in DA with pale skin and sunken cheeks, it is fair to assume that he was dead and reanimated, presumably through necromancy.

Leliana did not hesitate to kill Felix. One of the dialogue options of the inquisitor was to give Felix a merciful death. This implies that something was wrong with Felix, most likely that he was truly reincarnated.  Although it is in character for her to kill her captors after torture, I would assume she would feel even more entitled to killing her captor if she thought he was an abomination to the Maker: IE undead. The fact that everyone, even Dorian, seem unfazed by it does not imply that they didn't care. They just thought that he wasn't supposed to be alive to begin with.

This is further reinforced after the fight with Alexius. The inquisitor approaches a conflicted Dorian to comfort him, saying that she knew that he meant a lot to him. Dorian replies by saying that "he was dead a long time ago".

This is where opinions can diverge.

You can either take it as the inquisitor comforting Dorian for his mentor's death, to which Dorian replies that his mentor "was dead to him" as in no longer a friend.

OR

You can take it as the inquisitor comforting Dorian for Felix's death to which Dorian replies that has already made peace with it in the past since it has already happened a long time ago.

Furthermore, the relationship with Alexius OR Felix could be construed as either a platonic or romantic one.

---

So all in all, all four combinations are possible. What your gut tells you is yours alone.

Since I am biased towards wanting Dorian as an s/s romance, it's natural for me to be more inclined towards the romantic option.

That's all really. I didn't mean to make an issue out of it.

I really don't see companions dying just for being brought with you. Not without proper forewarning.

It has been stated that Sera was more likely unconscious. If she were to die, it wouldn't be offscreen like that. Even Kaidan/Ashley had one last stand.

I wonder if the VA's East Idian accent will show through in Dorian's voice.

I'm wary of doing the whole "let's pick apart dev statements word by word" thing, but let's pick apart dev statements word by word...

Dorian's accent is definitely English, but his voice actor is (I believe) also East Indian, so you will hear a bit of that in it, as well.

David's comment made me think the actor is English, with Indian heritage - for one thing, also, they have recording facilities in London and it makes sense to get a local actor.

To answer your question, David pretty much says here that we'll be able to hear something else in Dorian's "English" accent, but I don't think it necessarily means he'll have a particularly strong Indian inflection.

(To me a more interesting aspect of this lore-wise is what it says about the geographic spread of the Tevinter Imperium - does it include cultures and peoples who have natural Indian accents? Dorian seems culturally Tevinter with his surname, but perhaps the empire is multiracial.)

Language-country-accent relationships are quite inconsistent in this setting. I am not sure as to why all Orlesians speak with an accent, while most Tevinter we've heard do not.

I think the difference there was that the game pretty much warned you (at multiple points) that lack of preparation and poor choices could mean bad consequences. It's a bit different to "apparently" killing Sera off-screen and dumping her body with no reaction from anybody.

(and honestly that whole Suicide Mission was handled so wonderfully and intelligently that I don't even care if it tricks me, the effect it creates is like magic)

How would it be multiracial? We already know that Tevinter was formed from several "barbarian tribes" including the dominant Tevinter tribe. Perhaps Dorian is simply from a different ancestral tribe than the others?

Although that wouldn't account for his voice inflections. It's all simply a happy accident :)

...

Do you think they darkened Dorian's skin to account for that slight inflection? Would be rather funny if they did, not that I don't appreciate having a companion with an olive-brown skin like me in a DA game :)
