Do you think Dorian's prior involvement with Alexius makes him the more probable option as the party's Necromancer? Or his apparent shock and horror at undead!Felix make him the less probable option?

His reaction makes me think he's not, although I'm not clear on why people think companions will be a set specialty? Did I miss something?

We were just trying to think of who/what could teach us the specializations

Dorian - Necromancer

Solas - Rift Mage

Viv - Knight Enchanter

Iron Bull - Reaver

Cass - Champion

Sera - Tempest

Cole - Assassin

Dagna - Artificer

Cullen - Templar

Possibly. If anything, his shock and horror proved that he doesn't exactly support the art of necromancy. Further, Alexius calls him his "final failure". Perhaps he chose to turn Alexius's teachings toward something more positive, like healing. We discussed yesterday the possibility of Dorian choosing to focus on healing instead of necromancy.

True. And, the fact we have no idea who are healer gives this theory more weight. Plus, necromancy and fade magic sound like they are both summoning powers. Why would there be two trees for summoning spirits and the dead.

In a video of the demo for a Dwarven warrior Inquisitor (it's since been taken down), they took a quick look at the inventory and talent trees, and one of the talent trees for Iron Bull was Reaver, which has led some to believe that each companion will have one of three specializations available to the PC. Certainly not confirmed though, was merely speculating based on the possibility.

I'd switch Dorian and Solas, Cass to me seems the most 'Templar' of the Warrior companions (assuming every spec is represented by 1 companion), and Blackbeard... I mean Blackwall just screams Champion (based on his character description, protector of the weak, etc). Rogues seem spot on to me.

Solas is more than likely the healer

I'd rather they have unique specs like in DA2 tbh

I think it's worth noting that there seem to be a lot of things that Dorian could be shocked at seeing his master doing.  He could just be shocked to see his former mentor has raised his own son as a zombie as opposed to shocked by necromancy itself.  I'm personally liking the idea of him being a necromancer.

Fair point. Cass could easily teach Templar talents as well...and you're probably right about Blackwall too.

And wait, didn't Dorian do something with the portal in the E3 demo? Maybe that's "Rift Mage" stuff.

That's actually what I was wondering, if Rift Mage indeed has something to do with the fade tears and such, Alexius certainly seemed to have some modicum of control over them, and Dorian could of apprenticed under him in that regard.

Templar, Reaver, and Champion

People checked the names of the icons on the class page a while back to get these specs. Sadly Bioware caught on and changed the names of the icons now, so while they aren't confirmed, they are about as confirmed as DHMG being Dorian before E3.

Rogue got Tempest, which I believe we saw in the trailer as well. Also, they got Artificer.

Cass is from a family dragon slayers she could be a mix of Templar and reaver. I get the feeling that companions will have more of a mixed specialization.

That would have been interesting. I have no clue what it'd entail though.

Seems they are heavily focusing on expanding the mage repertoire.

Very true.

I would too, but given that Warrior and Rogue companions are no longer restricted to one weapon type, this would be too much effort for too little gain. Or so I feel, anyway. I will miss the unique specs if this is direction they are going with for Inquisition.

I personally am hoping that Dorian is not the Necromancer (though I think he will be), purely because it is the specialization I am least interested in and Dorian is looking more and more to being a mainstay in my party.

I wanted to see that Juggernaut spec that was apparently gonna be in DA2

I could see that as a mix between anti-mage and a big single target focus. Seek out an enemy and destroy them!

I'm all for Mage expansions  :wizard:

As for a Seeker build, neither do I, but it could've been cool. At least something new rather than the same three again.

That's probably the reason, though they probably could find a way around it since the companion specs in DA2 (minus Bethany/Carver) were kind of a combination of two specializations
