I think it's possible Dorian is a Knight Enchanter , because it sounds like Arcane warrior , and I'm not picturing Vivienne fighting like this.
Besides in the first concept art ,it looked like he had a sword on his back.

What if he's a battlemage and we learn the concept of Knight Enchanter from him? ![]()

You just want him to be a battlemage. I see right through you, Keith. ![]()

I just want companions to have personal specs, and yes I do want him to be a battlemage lol

I will say this, Battlemage in DAA had one of my favorite spells of all time, and it'd be nice to have a similar spec again.
I wonder if Dorian could be able to use that sword in actual gameplay...

Good thing there's no battlemage spec, I feel like I said I'd doubt there would be one but you two specifically tried to argue it.

Lol, I think Knight Enchanter might be a similar spec to battlemage in that it sounds more up close and personal, summoning magical armor and blades of ethereal force. As a matter of fact, the description reminds me a bit of the Dragon Armor shout from Skyrim, and the blades part reminds me of the Blades spell in Fable.

Definitely the spec I'm using for my first Mage

We were just trying to think of who/what could teach us the specializations
Dorian - Necromancer
Solas - Rift Mage
Viv - Knight Enchanter
Iron Bull - Reaver
Cass - Champion
Sera - Tempest
Cole - Assassin
Dagna - Artificer
Cullen - Templar
Did they say that's how we're learning them? If so, then I did miss something. ![]()

We seem to have a similar taste in men Lucy. Way, way back in the day (like, pre-Origins, still in high school back in the day) I seem to remember a bit of bonding over a shared love of all things Alistair and Atton Rand. And now Dorian. Remind me to pm you for your approval before agreeing to any future dates.

I remember your username! Your avatar is different, though.
I love my scoundrels :-D Too bad Atton was unfinished... that kind of made it a bit spesh in that way... *sigh*

I'm wary of doing the whole "let's pick apart dev statements word by word" thing, but let's pick apart dev statements word by word...
David's comment made me think the actor is English, with Indian heritage - for one thing, also, they have recording facilities in London and it makes sense to get a local actor.
To answer your question, David pretty much says here that we'll be able to hear something else in Dorian's "English" accent, but I don't think it necessarily means he'll have a particularly strong Indian inflection.
(To me a more interesting aspect of this lore-wise is what it says about the geographic spread of the Tevinter Imperium - does it include cultures and peoples who have natural Indian accents? Dorian seems culturally Tevinter with his surname, but perhaps the empire is multiracial.)
I find that mostly English accent with that GORGEOUS Indian lilt in some actors is just sooooo beautiful. Or even just that upper class Indian accent (Irrfan Khan) is so divine.
I have to say I could totally believe Dorian's VO being (as mentioned previously) Naveen Andrews...

I think that Dorian is Rift Mage as well i know that Solas is fade expert but for me Rift Mage isn't the same as a fade expert plus according to what we saw/read it seems that Dorian isn't typical Tevinter mage. Oh and yeah we also saw that locket portal thing on the demo so maybe he really is a Rift Mage. Personally i think that Vivienne could be Necromancer but maybe that's just me ![]()

Well watching the new trailer with her brand new pale evil eyes , I can totally see her going all "Oh by the way I like to play with dead people , muhahaha".
I have no idea what rift mage is supposed to be so I don't know what to think about that.

I'm also curious what Rift Mage is, maybe we will be able to manipulate rifts/creating portals, there are a lot of possibilities with the new engine but i hope we get official news about that soon because if i remember correctly on the dragonage site Rift Mage is a second to reveal.

Rift Mage sounds like it could be something Inquisitor specific- an extension of her glowy green hand power and something that only really makes sense with the Rift open. However, if the companions all get a basic spec, I could see Solas being the Rift Mage of the three, simply because it's Fade related and he's the Fade expert.
As for Dorian, he'd make more sense as a Necromancer than Vivienne would, but she also doesn't strike me as a Knight-Enchanter.

Knight-Enchanter sounds like Vivienne. Rift would be Solas, I reckon. I guess Dorian would be a necromancer, as Alexius has created a zombie out of his son and Dorian was taught by him.

Dorian is a Tevinter magister so it should make sense that he should know about something about rift magic since those kind of magisters apparently went to the Fade and to the Golden/Black City, so they should be really knowledgeable about fade rifts. Probably Dorian studied under those kind of magic also since that is the kind of magic Tevinter speicializes on. He could also be a necromage since again, that was how I think darkspawn were made, and what other place did that start from, is none other than in Tevinter.

Magisters are linked to necromancy in the lore already, though. Danarius is a good example.

I think it's worth noting that there seem to be a lot of things that Dorian could be shocked at seeing his master doing. He could just be shocked to see his former mentor has raised his own son as a zombie as opposed to shocked by necromancy itself. I'm personally liking the idea of him being a necromancer.
It kinda spoils the idea of Dorian being a sympathetic Tevinter character though, given that necromancy has always been portrayed in the series as A Bad Thing.
I just don't think it really works, thematically. Dagna isn't a companion and she might teach us the Artificer specialisation, what's to say we won't find another NPC necromancer somewhere else in the story?

Maybe Alexius taught Dorian about Necromancy, so he has knowledge of it but doesn't use it a lot or at all. Then you have to get on Dorian's good side to get him to teach you the specialization. ![]()

If they make the necromancer capable of reviving newly dead people in addition to raising corpses, then that would make it have a beneficial aspect to it and also account for how the companions in the demo actually manage to survive the events, since Dorian can bring them back. Alternatively using the residual life force from corpses to heal self and party members. The old spirit magic class could do this for self at least (I think it was that class). I'm not a great enthusiast for being a necromancer after our experiences with it in DA2, when its use was definitely associated with evil and madness, something that seems to have been carried through at least so far as Alexis is concerned. However, if Dorian was trained by him then it seems likely that he will have some of the necromancer's ability, even if he has some spells that are unique to him as a Tevinter mage. I certainly think that unless each of the characters have their own unique class abilities (as in DA2) , then Vivienne is likely to be a Knight Enchanter, Solas the Rift Mage, and Dorian the Necromancer.

I must say, out of the characters I've seen so far, I'm steering towards Dorian as the romance option for my heroine.
I sure hope he doesn't turn out being gay.

Seeing The Iron Bull with the reaver spec didn't make me happy. I wanted companions to have different ones to the PC
Me too and Iron bull doesn't strike me as a Reaver, does it mean that Cass/Blackwall is a templar? I'm sure they will change it in the future.
Seems like his master called him failure, maybe dorian Dorian is some kind of blood mage or necromage that uses magic to help his people instead of using it to hurt their enemies, similtar to Merrill but less naive (I hope...).
Whatever, I'm more interested in knowing how many friends he will have in our group, seems like Leliana doesn't like him very much (I read something like that, I don't know where...) and I don't see the Iron bull or Cullen getting along with him either.
