I'm definitely imagining something like Aveline and Isabela - they start off a bit wary of each other with genuine vitriol in their snarking. Then they come to respect and like each other, and then the snarking has that positive undertone to it.
I actually really like that idea. I adored Aveline and Isabela's relationship, if not between Vivi and Dorian I hope we get something similar to that between other companions.

This type of relationship is what I'm putting my money on. I am incredibly, unwisely invested in a snarky, acerbic, somewhat catty Vivi&Dorian duo that goes from terrifying to heartwarming over time. (Although most people that've seen my previous posts already know that, haha.)

Dorian (or even Blackwall) turns out to the be the gay companion but he's not romanceable. It'll be representation without the romance.

Well, they did say that all orientations would be represented... but I wouldn't worry. They could theoretically include a lesbian-only romance without including a gay-only romance, but it doesn't seem likely. They've been really super about inclusivity.
And they've been super about giving us heartache! The only two members of our entourage I don't want to romance are Cole and Leliana. All the rest, I want. They can't all be romance options, so disappointment is certain. Still, I suppose it is better to want someone you can't have than it is to have someone you don't want.

I think it's a little unlikely that we'd have an F/F but no M/M romance, but BioWare delights in shocking our delicate sensibilities every now and again. Keeps us on our toes, and providing their much needed fuel of fan tears and gnashing of teeth.
But if that is the case, that's exactly what my fannish writing skills are for! I have trained for years for this moment.
