I keep thinking that he's not a companion and is going to be a seneschal instead.  I see him as a counterpart to Scribe Girl.  I think that he's going to be the one to take care of the larger issues in the keep, including trade, emissaries, etc.  And I think that Scribe Girl is going to be the one take care of the personal issues for the Inquisitor (like Chambers and Traynor in the ME series), such as personal correspondences and arranging your meetings with important NPCs and companions.

I know that he's got concept art that shows him with weapons, but we've never seen him in armor and his weaponry is a bit odd (a spear/halberd/staff thing and a sword).  His polearm could be an interesting way to add in some diversity in weaponry without having to worry about altering the game mechanics at all.  A seneschal could easily be combat trained, so that would make sense to me.

This is all just speculation and guesswork though.

I do see his use of a trident as, in a very round about way, linking him to the Dorian concept. I think tridents as a weapon, I think Roman gladiators; I think Roman in relation to dragon age, I think Tevinter.

We are just going on that one concept art, right? The War Room concept art? To me he looks very fruity and silly, certainly not a warrior and potential companion. I think if he is indeed in the game then he will be a counselor NPC type. He also looks like he will have an (cue Monty Python voice) outraaageous French accent! Not the kind of parody-type guy I want in my party :P

He's also in the leaked companion survey art.  But those are the only two pictures.

I don't think that's the same guy. I think that's a depiction of the Dorian character, who has perhaps been scrapped in favor of Solas or Vivienne.

Really?  That's interesting to me because I think they look really similar.  They are both dark haired men with thick moustaches and are wearing similar outfits.  It will be interesting to see if it's the same guy or not.

There's also another concept art piece that i remembered since my last post which has Moustachio leaning over someone's shoulder (the Inquisitor?) and looking at a map or book.  But a quick google search didn't turn it up.  Maybe someone could share that if they have it handy?

I am leaning towards a Seneschal as well, or a herald. Who would traditionally stand about in courts with large halberds/polearm/standard and announce people like a Major Domo would.

This one? (This image makes me think the Flaily is actually an NPC.)

He has no beard there, but I think that looks like him, too. He kind of looks like a villain there.

But yes definitely not a companion.

Yep.  That's the one.  And it definitely gives me an NPC adviser type of vibe.

He strikes me more as a distinquished british officer in that picture than a villain. The kind of guy who'll challenge you to fistacuffs after a spot of tea.

I was kind of hoping that he is the Dorian from the survey, I really liked the sound of his character.

I'm digging his outfit. It looks like an Assassin's creed type robe, which makes me think he'd be a rogue if he is a companion.

There is other concept art that looks like it could be him due to the robes, but they have hoods on so it's hard to tell.

I for one hope he is Dorian and that he is an actual Arcane Warrior. It's time we got an unconventional Mage and not just another stereotypical staff toting spell thrower, not that there's anything wrong with that, but variety is the spice of life and all that.

It would also be awesome to see pole arms, spears, tridents used in the game, but that's not likely, even if they were the bread and butter of all armies/soldiers throughout most of history.

I hope he's Dorian... or I should say, even if he's not, I hope we get Dorian as a companion.  And if he's not Dorian I'm not terribly interested in who he is right now, haha.

He could also be the bearded Grey Warden. Yes, I know he's not precisely similar, but it's only concept art.

The bearded Warden was actually in the same survey, and his appearance is pretty wildly different. Dramatic hands guy is a different character.

I was actually thinking this too.

And his clothing is almost reminiscent of what a stereotypical Roman (or Byzantine?) Senator would wear, and magisters are technically given that title because they're members of the Imperial Senate.

Edit: I use "actually" way too much, actually.

I'm pretty sure Gaider said the Dorian concept was scrapped. No I'm not hunting down a quote.

This guy's facial hair makes me think of Alexander Dumas books. Thus I think he is Orlesian. His behavior in the map room concept art makes me think he is in charge of that room. He doesn't like his maps being mistreated. I think he is an NPC.

Well, I'll be rather disappointed if it turns out the Dorian concept has been scrapped. While I've come around a bit towards Solas and Viveinne, the Dorian concept was far more interesting than either of them.

He said some of the survey characters had been changed significantly or removed entirely, but he never specified which ones. Given that literally every other thing in the survey has ended up being accurate, I'm not really going to be convinced that Dorian has been scrapped until we actually hear that he's not in the game.

The other day he also pointed out that Solas and Dorian weren't the same character, and they never had been - so it's not like the Dorian concept for a mage became Solas.

I really hope he's Rhys. They said that we'll get a character from Asunder as a companion, but contrary to popular belief, I really don't want Cole to be the one we get.

^ I think it was "significant character", not companion - but I'm not sure, because it was based on what someone overheard at a PAX event.

And yeah, moustache guy could certainly be Rhys.

Though actually, now that I think about it:

Dorian was an outcast magister, and we know that Tevinter has good relations with the dwarves. This shot is certainly underground, and that's a dwarf - what if that's where we find him, helping out with some magical problem they have?

A dwarven city/settlement was shown in one of the recent trailers, after all.

Sooo much awesome.  We could have a full warrior party in DAO, and a full rogue party in DA2, I'd love a mage party for once.

Moustache guy is mage or he's out!
