He's entirely too robe-y and staff-y to be a chevalier.

Could be casual wear :P

and his staff kinda looks more like a spear like weapon

As for his being a chevalier... I don't think he is.  No yellow feather.

Which is more likely - that DHMG is a chevalier dressing up as a mage and lacking the order's traditional weapons, amour and insignia, or that DHMG is exactly what he appears to be? You keep posting reasons why he could be a chevalier that boil down to "if a chevalier went mad and took off all their armour and started wearing robes for some reason, they could look like this character".

Don't you think that if he were a chevalier that he'd be dressed like one? Every other character is what they appear to be. Cassandra is wearing Seeker gear, Solas has mage robes and not plate armour. Varric is in clothing.

Really? He has spear and sword.

Michel's apperiance wasn't described. Why do you think it could be unless PW descibed even capitan of the guard?

So every guy with a blade and pointy stick is a chevalier???  Do you know who else uses swords?

Arcane Warriors.

I think it's a fair assumption that he could be either Michel from TME as a Chevalier or a Battle Mage who's name may or may not be Dorian

I wonder if they'll tell us if there will be anyone in game from Masked Empire. I think someone said at some point that there would be a character in game in some capacity from Asunder? I always see that said, but I've never seen the source, so I honestly can't substantiate.

The two or three chevaliers we saw in Masked Empire wore plate armour, and fought with swords and shields.

DHMG is wearing robes, he has scrolls attached to those robes, and in one piece of concept art he's holding a staff.

It comes from the excellent Lady Insanity, who seems to go to every Bioware panel at every convention, ever.

(I think it's Cole)

To my knowledge the only time we've encountered "looks like a mage, dreses like a mage, is a warrior" was with Fenris, and the artists have since expressed that his appearance was a result of deadlines and other challenges, and that they would have designed him differently had they been able to.

Thanks! I'm leaning towards Cole still being in the mix, also.

I just wondered if they would tell us the situation with Masked Empire and possible inclusions. It would at least clear up if Michel had any shot at being DHMG if they hadn't intended any major appearances from the book. It doesn't seem too out of left field for them to comment on it, since they said a character from Asunder would be in, but Maevaris came too late.

I don't really think DHMG is Michel, personally, though. I'm still mostly thinking he's probably Dorian.

Someone could ask Patrick Weekes on Twitter if Michel will make an appearance in Inquisition.

I think there's something puzzling, though, in leaping to assume any character we don't know must be [character X from book Y] just because someone read about them two days ago.

(Even more so if getting to that conclusion means imagining Bioware would draw a chevalier without armour.)

I honestly don't understand why anyone thinks he is a Chevalier, everything we have on him points to him being a mage/arcane warrior.

I'm not sure they'll specifically tell us about Michel. They might if he's not in, but they'll probably be vague if he is, or anyone from the book is. Like how they told us Maevaris wouldn't be in, but they've left the Asunder inclusion open.

I do agree that Michel is probably a long shot, though. I don't really see DHMG as a warrior class of any kind, unless you count arcane warrior, maybe.

I think that was a unique circumstance, but I won't get into it since it's pretty off topic.

What is on topic is what David also said in that post about Mae:

That doesn’t stop us, however, from using her in the future, if we care to, or from having other Tevinter (or, yes, even transgender) characters you simply don’t know anything about yet.

This is ideal.  Strange that Dorian only exists to us in a couple lines of text but I still managed to completely fall in love with the idea of him.  Damn it.  Dat 'stache.

Well, his apparent lack of armor does, but he could be wearing a cloak over leathers or chainmail.  I do believe he's a mage, but we also read about pikemen/spearmen who would wield a spear or pike plus a short sword.  Dramatic Hands has a trident and a short sword.  That doesn't mean he's a chevalier; he might just be a commoner solder, for all we know.

Or, he could be a mage, which I think he appears to be.

I think he's a mage, but I'm not making assumptions.  I do not believe he will turn out to be Michel.  I'd like to think Michel is in the game, but maybe not as a companion.

I would just like to get a hint regarding whether he is in the game in some sort of capacity or not. I would love to have DHMG as a companion, but I would also not say no to him being an advisor. Maybe for coordinating the mages in the Inquisition?

Somebody gotta organize them, and judging from his scrolls, he could be the one. His staff/sword combination might be used in an epic cutscene, just to show you how awesome he is, and afterwards he will be your most loyal and most critical person-you-should-listen-to-but-never-actually-will.

I have a feeling that DHMG might be a npc, someone like Traynor or Cortez in ME 3. Maybe I'm wrong though.

They said before that the keeps have specialties; espionage, military and trade. I would guess the major NPCs would be heads over those three specialties and then the other people at the keep will most likely be goods sellers and such, like Bodhan and Sandal, Dagna, maybe Wade and Herren. That's just my offhanded guess, though.

He's showed up in the party (or has been identified as such) in several concept arts.  Of course, he may never have been designed, but his visibility makes me think he's more likely to be a companion than Cole.  Not that I'd object to Cole at all:  I'd love to have him in my party, but I honestly think he got scrapped.

I am so tempted to keep him in my party along with Solas and Vivienne... But I guess I'll wait and see who I actually like in-game first.

Have we ever seen a Dragon Age character with such meticulously perfect facial hair???

Add a bit of humorous wit and good-natured sarcasm and I think I will love this dude.
