Haha, I like how we all got back on track after what ElitePinecone said! Proof that every thread ever needs more EP!

I like it when people use B) instead of b )

Anyway, I hope they're talking about Dorian in that statement.  Vivienne and Dorian both strike me as exhibiting some amount of pompousness, and I like imagining how any arguments or competitions between them would play out.

LoL, force of habit I guess!

There's also the whole Orlais vs. Tevinter aspect to it.

Actually what intrigues me most about Dorian is the fact that he is a Tevinter Magister but apparently a sane reasonable one, who you can talk to and doesn't sound so creepy it makes your skin crawl.   I had originally hoped that we might get to travel to Tevinter this time round but apparently not.   So it's great that a citizen of Tevinter is coming to us and wants to set the record straight about mages from his country.    I'm hoping that because magical research is not restricted there as it has been in the Circles, that he will be able to give us some new insights into magic.   I'm pretty sure he is going to specialise in Necromancy, so presume he is going to convince me that Necromancy isn't all bad.

I'm anticipating that he may not see eye to eye with Vivienne and unless Solas turns out to be really open minded, there may a bit of a clash with him as well.   Still, that is not likely to be a problem for me when we're out and about because I usually play a mage, so I don't need more than one in my companions.      At present I'm not anticipating getting on that well with Vivienne myself, so it will be a toss up between Dorian and Solas who I take around.       Definitely looking forward to down time back at the Keep though.   Do you suppose he has any party tricks?

I don't know, he could be a Knight Enchanter or a Rift Mage too... Wasn't he holding a sword in the leaked survey art? Or he could be a Rift Mage, because he apparently knew what to do with that vortex/spell thingie. He was also apparently surprised* at what had happened to Felix (though he might just have been surprised that Alexius did that whole necromancy thing with his own son).

* That's second-hand information though. I haven't seen the full demo.

It's possible Vivienne and Dorian are going to get along ...

I'm not sure Dorian will feel too involved about the whole war between mages and templars , because well...Tevinter doesn't have this problem.

Besides they were both powerful mages .

I can imagine they will talk in a pretty friendly and polite manner , and just throw some snark at each others from time to time.

Again, there's the whole Orlais vs. Tevinter thing to consider. Vivienne seems to be pretty big on politics.

Yep ...but I'm thinking she was a court mage , he was a magister.

I think even if they dislike each others , they are going to be polite about it.

The one I can see hating Dorian is Sera , because well slavery in Tevinter + Dorian was powerful in his country.

Solas could also be hater, hating a playa for his look and swag.

I have just been reading up on Tevinter society.   Do you suppose Dorian is an Altus, descended from the Magisters of old, or a Laetans from a non-magical family?   Most of the Magisters are Altus but not all.    That would put a whole different perspective on his outlook if instead of coming from a privileged family that had always had magic and saw it as a birthright, he was someone from a humble background who just had talent.   Sera might not be so antagonistic to the latter.

Let's not forget Iron Bull. Dorian is a Tevinter magister, Iron Bull is a Qunari. There has to be tension there.

It's probably a we-actually-sort-of-like-each-other-even-if-we-bicker-a-lot type of relationship with them.

I also wonder how things will go between him and Iron Bull. Not so great, I imagine.

A very good point, actually. (Though, they sort of had Fenris as the underprivileged-guy-from-Tevinter.. Not that these two are the same thing!)

Also guys, I don't know why but I lol'ed at this thing while I was making it:

Now, if any of our talented artists here on the thread would like to maybe paint Dorian (and Blackwall) in fancy Victorian garbs... Pretty please...?!!

So I caught an episode of Face Off from Season 2, and all I could think about was how striking similar this guy is to Dorian in terms of appearance.  He isn't swarthy enough, and his face is more boyish, but the facial hair and hair on his head is pretty spot on.

Which engine is the Order game using? It looks a lot more details and realistic than Dragon Age Inquisition.

They use their own, made for next gen. Called RAD 4.0, apparently similar to Unreal Engine 4.

OMG imsonervous! None in particular, but I like the stuff Prince Albert wears in The Young Victoria.

It's their own new engine, I believe. Also, it's a completely next-gen game while DAI is cross-gen.

Hmm off topic but... a long long time ago, before there was any information on the companions at all, I kept thinking how interesting it would be if we had a Tevinter companion with a little... well, twist. He would be the eldest child in a family of strong mages whom traced their lineage back to before Andraste to some ancient Archon. Except, as luck would have for him, he would not have even the slightest bit of magic in him. So he sort of gets pushed aside for his younger sibling who is a competent mage. Of course, said companion would do his best to master the art of swords (or daggers), and he'd make a fierce warrior. Still, however, it would be hard for him to survive in a nation where magic is everything for the nobility. So his dad (who seems cold and emotionless on the outside, but whom actually likes this magic-less boy of his for his bravado and fierce dedication) sends him away from Tevinter to some mission that would eventually have him join our hero.

Anyways, back to topic, I think I'll prefer it if he's an Altus. Don't know why.

Also, I hope the Flame of the Inquisition weapons aren't restricted to the inquisitor only. I want Dorian to be able to wield that staff. It's just so fitting!

He does strike me as proud of his talents, but that does not really indicate neither Atlus or Laetan. He could be from a moderate Atlus family that does not necessarily see magic as a birthright. I mean, Tevinter is pretty big, there got to be different types of magisters all around. The evil ones, the very evil ones, the slightly evil, the kinda-normal-but-still-evil ones, the actually normal ones and nice ones. And maybe even good ones that hate bloodmagic.

Danarius was apparently from  around Minrathous (judging from his in-game letter to Hawke) and Tevinter is bigger than that. There have to be different various ideologies within the Magisters, judging from Danarius and Mae (who are the two that stuck in my head).

I don't really care what Dorian is. Being an Atlus would add some romanticism to him, while Leatan would add to his "f- the magisters"-attitude. If Alexius was his mentor, could that mean that Alexius also doesn't like the other Magisters? They could dislike them for differing reasons.

Just curious if this song has been brought up regarding Dorian yet.  I literally can't look at him without it playing in my head.

I was actually going to post something like this the other day, Dorian reminds me of Nix Hererra from the 2nd season of Face-Off.  :)

With Iron Bull pretty much being confirmed as a bi LI and Cullen definitely being confirmed as a LI in general, I think Dorian is almost certainly going to be the m/m romance. If they chose Blackwall or Solas at this point instead I'd be honestly surprised.

EDIT: Nevermind. The devs are playing coy now. Iron Bull might not be a romance.

Well, a lot of romances in BW games have been quite tragic or difficult. Let's see:

  • Alistair was pretty sad because not only can he not have children (well... probably not) but he has a short time limit on his life as well as the fact that unless you are a human noble, you can't marry him and will be relegated to be his mistress for the rest of your life.

Wait can't you end up with him if you don't make him king? Go be gray wardens together as happy as you can lead that life? Don't make him do a job he doesn't want and take your trip down to the deep roads together when it finally comes?

To me, Karin's tweet about 'trying' to romance Iron Bull sounded more like he could be race gated. I mean, it could go either way. At this point, we have: Cullen (not gay), Varric (not gay), Iron Bull (not gay), and Cole (out of the equation).

This would leave us with Blackwall, Solas, or Dorian as m/m only. After the reveal about Sera, I would find it difficult to believe that we don't have an exclusive same-sex romanceable male companion.

Also, from Vivienne's profile:

[DA]: Does her personality conflict with her fellow companions, or does she fit right in with the Inquisition?

[MK]: She takes great pride in her work, and her interactions with a certain unnamed Inquisition mage can be a little… explosive. In a good way. Mostly.

Folks have speculated the "certain unnamed Inquisition mage" is Dorian (since Solas had been officially named for quite a while before then). It's the "she takes great pride in her work" part that makes me rise an eyebrow. Two things we know is that a) Viv is trying to put the circle back together and B) she's an adviser/something in the imperial court. So, what do you guys think?!

There was an interview with Cameron a few days ago that seemed to strongly suggest that this quote was talking about Morrigan, actually. He basically confirmed that Morrigan joins the Inquisition, and that her personality clashes with Vivienne because they're polar opposites.
