First of all, YAY for Dorian information and new pictures.  He sounds amazing and is super hot.

Second, I am going to take an unpopular stance:  Moustache-less Dorian is just as hot as Moustacioed Dorian.

I also think that the "social outcast" thing is not interesting in the slightest.

You see, every time we saw someone from  Tevinter in the past,be it magisters or slavers,it felt to me like they knew they're supposed to be the "Evil Nation" in a fantasy-storyline and just revel in it,

Wouldnt it have been much more compelling if Dorian was a Tevinter magister who, while still being a good, sociable, and somewhat nice person who cares about the greater good enough to fight for the Inquisition, also honestly believes that the Tevinter society is actually doing the right thing?

So instead of stuff like:

Inquisitor:I think Tevinter is morally bancrupt.

Dorian :Yeah,tell me about it.

he would actually try to argue with you about it,not unlike Sten in Origins.

But thats just me,you guys seem to like it the way it is,so im content either way.^^

You already listed why alot of us are happy Dorian is not like that in your paragraph ;)

Just for you, Mr. House, I'll laugh if Dorian is a benevolent paternalist who thinks that the error of the Tevinter Magistrates is in not being benevolent mage overlords, rather than finding any issue in mage overlords in the first place.

I would be alright with Dorian just thinking mages should be benevolent overlords.

Maker no, I don't want him to be a complete idiotic idealist.

I actually would be ok with this as well.

I dont want perfect people with perfect ideologies. Thats boring. I like it when characters have a some teeth to them.

Not like Anders or Fenris, where their agenda is all that they are, but more like a Sten.

I'm thinking 'armchair socialist mage supremacist.'

Which is like being an armchair socialist and talking about the working class, only from the position that the mage class is going to be the Party.

Well,i mean look at the Qunari.A lot of people think their society is abhorrent and immoral(me included),but in contrast to Tevinter there are actually a lot of people who agree with them.
And i think thats because they're not rubbing it in your face. They actually try to convince you,and judging by a lot of forum discussions and Lets Plays,it actually works on a lot of people.

Im not saying that i agree with Tevinter, its quite the opposite actually, all i want is a Tevinter magister who is not all "Muhahaha",but still stands behind his/her country.
Maybe there is one in this game,i dont know,i just thought that having someone like that as a party member would have ben interesting.
Alas,maybe in the next game....^^

I'm going to be a little trite for the moment and say that wanting to reform one's country is not the same as refusing to stand behind it. I daresay that wanting Tevinter to improve, and become a better version of itself, shows how much Dorian actually cares about it. Otherwise, why not just jump ship and cut ties? Throw your hands up in the air and say "To hell with this entire country, to hell with these people, I hate you and everything you are", much like Fenris?
...
*burns her own soapbox*
That aside, I see your point in wanting a true Magister who isn't cartoonishly tying little elven children to railroad tracks, awaiting an incoming dragon and twirling a silent movie moustache, but just genuinely sees slavery and blood magic as wholly defensible. I'd probably hate their guts, true, but It'd be a compelling character nonetheless.
(I'm still looking at the possibility that Dorian might be in full support of the magocracy, only without all the icky blood magic, slavery, and mistreatment of the lower classes.)

I don't see it as any worse than those who aren't rallying to do away with the human nobility. Sure, democratic process would be great, but I don't really expect it in this sort of world. Everyone has their own ideals as to who should be calling the shots. As long as they think the rule should be benevolent, I can deal with it.

Yeah, id actually be ok with that. It would definitely be a new type of character.

And, i admit, it will make a fun conversation piece with my Mage characters.

So. Initial thoughts to Dorian.

Seems nice. Seems great, even. A well-intentioned Tevinter dissident who is opposed to Tevinter practices, wants to redeem it, and is charming and personable? No apparent flaws? Almost too good to be true.

Which, in the DA setting, means it probably is. He's going to have character development, and probably character flaws, that won't be apparent from this first impression.

Which leaves the question of... what will they be? Is his nice-guy act just an act for cunning and manipulative things? Doubt it. Insufferable arrogance? Probably not.

Not quite agreeing what the sins of Tevinter are that need fixing? Not apologizing or dissenting from the idea of mageocracy? Or paternalistic slavery? Or the old history with elves?

I doubt it would be all of these, but I certainly wouldn't be surprised if people find that Dorian isn't the antithesis of Tevinter that people will likely want him to be. What he considers right and wrong about it, and what the cast feels is right and wrong about it, can certainly be changed by his upbringing's perspective and privilege.

Well, if I were him, I would certainly wonder what makes mage overlords different from the blood-based overlords in every other nation.

Mostly because these guys don't drain their slaves dry and use that blood to create freaky ass experiments like  Tevinter overlords.

Dont they usually show the "interview" a day after they show the characters quote thingy?

I TRIED to photoshop Dorian face into Atlus armor somehow <_< and behind is main Tevinter city. I just noticed when pohotoshoping that there is some little skull on atlus armor. And skulls always reminds me on necromancy.

I think he'll be interesting in the least, and have a feeling his experiences with the Inquisition might actually impact his opinions, depending on your playthrough. Even proud types change their minds or amend their thinking.

He's not much of armchair anything if he actually accepted a pariah title and possibly wanted or expelled from places now in the Imperium. Oh, and joins the Inquisition.

In other news, I like the serpent? on Dorian's default gear.

Idealist is fine. I just don't want another Anders.

Anders wasn't an idealist, he was a terrorist.

It's the difference between believing the world could be better if everyone cared and that you have to blow up everything to make the world better.
