Great news.
Not that I ever doubted it. If Sera was the female version, Dorian had to be the male version.

I definitely welcome Dorian being gay. I know it disappoints others for not having their 'ideal LI' available (believe me, I ventured having a FemQunari Inquisitor/Dorian pairing early on myself), but at the same time its nice to have companions that aren't 'playersexual' just to fit in a romantic arc need, but rather have their own preferences, which reflect real life. And as someone who is gay and male IRL, its nice to have a companion whose backstory, from what I'm reading, sort of mirrors what many gay men so through IRL (having to put on a facade, being raised in families with high religious/cultural expectations, trust me, I know). It's more than just a romance option but having a character that is relatable in some way.
*Bonus points for his frenemy-ship with Vivienne. ![]()
I am someone hoping for Varric. I mean, I am very doubtful of it but as a female player (Who LOVED Isabela's romance more than any other in DA) I'm open for Sera, and look forward to seeing how that is and hope it's as good.
Also, I love playing characters not effected by Romance so...I may do my first PT like yours, except female.
Varric always hit the bro zone hard for me. And with restricted romances I have the feeling he'd be restricted to dwarves and maybe elves both races I have zero interest in playing.
Though yeah those tend to be my most DGAF playthroughs and the most fun.
I think female gamers are used to playing as men, so they don't have a problem with rolling an m!Quizzie.
Just a speculation.
EDIT - personally, I just find it hot anyways, so bonus.
Serious Lucy time.
!! If I have the choice I play as a female but... I thought I'd be like, ",awwwww but yay" but like as soon as I read the interview this pride and absolute emotional response went through me because... This is a massive deal and the fact that a game company I love and one of my all time favourite game series is the one to do so not only is my response excitement because finally gay men get a proper LI and someone (who appears to be) quite okay with it and open as a companion and a big player in the game BUT also because ITS FINALLY HAPPENED and I'd love nothing more than to see the dev team I love finally embrace all these people openly by not being afraid or dictated to change it to suit the, "mainstream."
I'm like so emotional right now it's 5am I stayed up for this and I couldn't ask for better news. I'm so happy for everyone. Just... Oh, god. GROUP HUG PLZ.
:,) so happy.
I hear you, girl!

So they confirm both gay options before confirming one straight or bi option
This was what you said, hence I responded to it because that is wrong. What you are saying now has NOTHING to do with why I responded to that post.
Do you know something about it? Because I also got impression that the only known for sure sexual orientation for our companions is for gay characters - Sara and Dorian. Did I missed a big announcement about others?
Also, do I read too much in to this statement?
Dorian's relationship with the Iron Bull is interesting. The Qunari have been at war with the Tevinter Imperium for centuries, after all, and the fact that neither Dorian nor Iron Bull are typical of their people makes for an intriguing arc.
Sounds to me as if there is a romance between 2 companions should you not romance either.
Do we know those characters are straight or bi, or can they possibly be another gay option? I've stopped assuming things since every time I do I get stung.
So Cullen only flirting with females in DAO/DA2 never happens?
I'm sorry to the women that wanted to romance Dorian, as some have said. I am extremely happy that he might be available to me, so sorry if it seems like gloating. And it's awesome how well everyone here that wanted to romance him as a female has been taking it. So much better than the Sera situation. You guys are awesome.
He's gay which is awesome. Now, I can quit playing devil's advocate. Now the question is do I play as a stander male, or do I go though with my plan for Billie the transvestite elf. I'm not sad (give me fifteen minutes) because it is just a game and....
Because it's not as simple as "Swap A for B". I had those characters planned for more than "I want them to bang *insert character here*". But I've said my piece. Any further 'whining' is me responding to people.
I never complained about DA2's system. I've always thought it was a great system.
i'm mentioning no names, just a general point of view with this and the Sera thread.

Happy day indeed ![]()
At least for a lot of us ^^
Yeah, it's impossible for me to be disappointed by a character who means so much, not only to his creator, but to players who aren't used to seeing themselves represented in mass media. DAI is really impressing me in that respect. They're not perfect, by any means, but given the hostile climate surrounding gender and sexuality in the larger gaming community right now, BW's commitment to being proudly inclusive is pretty ****** awesome.
I'm still disappointed that the "stereotypically gay" idea turned out to be true.
Avoiding stereotypes is as bad as incorporating them. We still don't know enough about his character to say he's 'stereotypical' for a gay man. As long as he's a fascinating character, I don't care if has some stereotypically homosexual mannerisms. As a gay man, I often get told about how surprising it is, how I don't "act gay". To me that's just as offensive. I both subvert and display gay stereotypes; my identity is not defined by my sexuality. I'm sure it will be the same for Dorian.
It's great to find out more about him! He keeps sounding more and more awesome. ![]()
I'm disappointed I won't be able to romance him as a female, but I'm not going to suddenly dislike him because he's gay. A person's worth isn't determined by who they fall in love with or like to have sex with.
As a female, I sometimes have a harder time sticking with a playthrough with a male character (when being a female is an option), but if I get around to it with DA:I, I definitely know who I'm gonna romance!
He definitely seems like the Master of Sass, but I don't THINK he's actually going to be one of those rude people with a superiority complex that thinks he's better than everyone else. I mean...obviously he's gorgeous and a fashion god, but I'm thinking he's going to be more confident rather than arrogant. Nevertheless, I'm sure he's going to be an entertaining person to have around. ![]()
But anywaayyyy, Dorian's character is very interesting, and I know he and my Femquisitor are going to be BFFs! ![]()

I was not suprised that Dorian was gay because well you know, it was pretty much expected ![]()
At first I wondered if I would like him... BUT after the interview I know I will love hearing him smack talk other people with Vivienne !
(Now the last left is Solas OMM)
Edit: I also felt like he will so be a BFF with my Mage F!Quizzy.
Them feels when i read how David Gaider really wanted to write this character it just.. Made me so happy for him

That is a pretty long bow to draw from one ambiguous line in an interview.

We shall get our hetero romances, and probably more options than gay/lesbian gamers besides (as is usually the case, wrong or not). The game is still 3+ months out, ffs, the hyperbole is ridiculous. Happiness for all!

I know, but since I am one the 'whiners' I thought I should point that out.
I can't romance him, but hopefully I can at least tell him what a fantastic moustache he has.

I know, I loved that little snippet. I've envisioned a Dorian and Vivienne sass off since Vivienne was revealed, I'm so happy to have it confirmed. I might just have to bring an all mage party along with me sometime to see how horribly things go for Solas (I'm sorry Solas, I'll make it up to you later, maybe let you run a couples tests on Cole, I'm sure he won't mind).
Varric always hit the bro zone hard for me. And with restricted romances I have the feeling he'd be restricted to dwarves and maybe elves both races I have zero interest in playing.
Though yeah those tend to be my most DGAF playthroughs and the most fun.
My most favorite Dragon Age : Origins play through had been Commoner Dwarf. Casteless Brosca is my favorite (Close by Dalish Mahariel) so I do have an affinity for the dwarves and was honestly so excited they were brought back as playable as well as the other races. : ) If it's dwarven exclusive romance, it's fine with me. I planned a dwarf play through anyway.
Usually my play throughs like that is with a psycho blood mage, which I loved doing in both games but since Blood Magic is gone...Necromancy? Haha
With the news of Vivienne-Dorian love/hate relationship and my love for Solas I just keep my fingers crossed that the easiest difficulty level is designed for pro noobs(like me) so that my "all mages in da house" playthrough won't turn into a wipe fest

yeah I can't do dwarves height complex I have.
SAME. Sociopathic, charming necro is my first playthrough now. He's gonna lead the world to it's bitter end~
I do hope Dorian can romance dwarves though. That comic was so cute :3

This, the fact that it meant such a lot to David to write him makes it extra special, I feel all sniffy..
I'm still disappointed that the "stereotypically gay" idea turned out to be true.
From what I know of gay stereotypes, raising dead bodies for a hobby is a big no no.
Being dead is bad for the skin, they smell bad and while some are buried in enviable fashion, mud and dirt tend to ruin even the most fashionable set of clothes.
They would never be caught dead with one.
From my perspective, the interview supported the opposite from what you gathered though. Maybe I'm missing out on some stereotypes, which is just as well I suppose.
Dorian is a DA character that I've wanted to see for a long time. A non-evil Tevinter Mage.
