Just got a chance to read the interview, he sounds like the perfect LI for my elfquizy. ![]()

As much as I would love to have Viv and Dorian in my party at the same time, chances are great that I will be mage myself. Sooo, that's gonna be too many mages in one party. I'm gonna be missing out on that banter.
And even if I play rogue, I rarely have more than one mage in my party design.

Okay, I just reread the interview, and technically DG only announced Dorian is gay, not that he is an LI (although I'm sure he is). So we're in an Iron Bull situation here (he'll bed anything he won't break, not exactly confirmation).
Yeah... I mean that's true... at the same time... I've taken at least 3 different poles since DA:I was announced and he's been at the top of the list for romance options each time. This is definitely a character well designed to appeal to a large audience, it just kinda feels weird that he wouldn't be an LI.
I think there's also a degree of "lets not let this turn out as poorly as the other thread did" (i.e. people learning from the other thread and not wanting to repeat the same issues.
There could be other reasons, but in general I appreciate that it's more "happy for you guys" types of stuff and not really any sort of vitriol.
It think it's that the thread was kinda prepared for it you know? I mean people have been kind of making the assumption for awhile now (and not necessarily based on stereotypes, there have been some pretty sensible deductions based on companion makeup that supported the theory as well). Expectations weren't so high as they were for Sera, which helped to keep things calmer, I think.

Mages are a pretty flexible class I think you might be able to bend their skills enough to make a workable party. And there could always be less combat heavy missions that could use a little magic sass as well. I mean we know there will be balls, there could be other diplomatic events for the Inquisitor to attend as well. And people might not even try to assassinate you more than once at these things.

I think Allan is right when he said a lot of the maturity here is because everyone saw how bad the Sera situation got so would rather not repeat it. If Dorian was announced before Sera, I see the same thing that happened with her happening with him.
I don't think it's the only reason (in my own, personal experiences, the women I know are more comfortable with LGBT. That may not be accurate to reality, but if it is it could be influenced by that). Some that are disappointed are still mostly happy because they are empathizing with the idea that it's an exclusively gay companion which doesn't really happen all that much.

I'm glad that DA is becoming even more inclusive, with two confirmed gay companions. I'm also happy for David Gaider's sake; the interview made it seem like writing Dorian was very important to him and that makes me want to get to know the character even more. If Dorian is an LI, I'm sure that my Dalish Inquisitor will get along with him well. Fingers crossed!

Well, that's disappointing. The character I'm most interested in for reasons unrelated to romance is restricted to the only type of romance I don't do. Drat. I guess it's fan fiction time again.

As I added in a later post, another reason was people were not expecting the only non-human female to not be available to male characters. When she was confirmed as female-only, a lot of the rage I noticed was "We're stuck with only humans"(Some were more insulting than that about the characters but that's what it boiled down to.).

Also a valid point that I hadn't considered.
I may have overlooked it since I knew for some time.

Yes that was always funny. "Killer." "how...original."
I hope so
Also picking the worst outfit for the ball and watching Dorian freak out. I can not wait to do this. Those meltdowns will be so hilarious
Ahh, I'm looking forward to a BFF/Bromance with one fem inquisitor and Dorian. My FQuizzy will probably be a scrubby as all hell dwarf who's life will be in rags [literal trashy clothing] ;P
Yes, I hope so too! -hopeful-

I'm just sad because I've been interested in Dorian as a LI pretty much since the leaked survey...
But oh well ![]()
While you're here Allan, is the other romance for the ladies aside from Cullen as awesome as Dorian? ![]()

Well you could probably still bring them between missions and like to villages and stuff to try and get some banter. I'll be in the same situation as I always play a mage first and Viv and Dorian are my favorite characters so far. ![]()
Maybe if we make our quizy or one of them a KE we wont need a Warrior as much.

I decided a few weeks ago that I wasn't entirely sure I could RP a Dalish elf comfortable romancing a Magister, regardless of how "different" from the rest he seemed. However, since elves are the only race I like to play as male, **** that **** I'm all in.
Same here, I've throwing my male Dalish straight at him. It sure would be interesting bringing him back to meet the clan. ![]()
A Vashoth could also be interesting. Hmm.

I have to admit that I was afraid of even lurking in this thread after I read the news because I feared negativity, but now I only have feelings of happiness.

Hmm I wonder if Dorian will now top Shale as character "most like Dave Gaider that Dave Gaider's written" I mean it sounds like he's got all of Shale's snark and general desire to screw with people's expectations, but he has the added bonus of having a background a little bit closer to Gaider's own (unless there was a time when Gaider was trapped inside a cave for several hundred years that we haven't heard about). Resisting the pressures of a society of ruthless blood mages doesn't sound all that different from paying a visit to the BSN.

Women are better people, semi-confirmed rumor.
EDIT - dear gawd, my trolling gif was giving me a seizure so I removed it. Just picture a gigantic TROLL FACE here.
I tend to pick my party & stick with them through the majority of the game, but that means my first playthrough will likely be Dorian-lite as I want IB, Cole & Varric with my mageQuizzie. I KNOW I need to learn to mix it up but its so hard cuz I don't want to miss anything with each companion.

lol! let's hope, right?
I'm just trying to figure how I'm gonna juggle all this. Cuz I'm kinda particular abt what I consider a balanced party.....Ack, I'll figure it out. *taps chin*

Well, I've been following the romance discussion really closely, I was active in the first thread to get locked in Scuttlebutt and I made the second one and was an active poster there, and honestly there were a lot of people guessing Sera would be a lesbian. I had her listed as a lesbian in all of my guess lists and a lot of other people were also doing so. A lot of people guessed Dorian as gay, but if people were following that to not be shocked when it came out, a lot of people must have seen guesses that Sera would be a lesbian, too. It was a bit more disputed, but honestly, it didn't exactly come out of nowhere.

I think they call that 'crunch time' at BioWare.
Throw some Tim tams in there every month to keep them fed and leave them to it. It seems to work.

D: my post vanished but yes agreed. My Quizzy will be a fashion disaster and proud of it. Though i'll have to choose between him and Vivi because with my mage PCs I want IB and Varric in the party XD

unless there was a time when Gaider was trapped inside a cave for several hundred years that we haven't heard about
We haven't got the whole origin story yet, maybe next season.
As for Dorian, I think it's maybe a bit too far to think every character will naturally be a reflection of the writer - part of their skill has to be in writing characters that are nothing like them. But I do think David likes writing snark, so it's exciting to see what he'll do with a magister.
(Aside from the relationship implications or even Dorian's personality, I'm just really overjoyed to have a powerful magister on the team.)
