Ahhh! He's gay! And fabulous! And has the relationship with Viv I was hoping for! Ahh!
First I'm like

Then I'm like

I have the feels. I am excited. 102 days and counting...

Well you could probably still bring them between missions and like to villages and stuff to try and get some banter. I'll be in the same situation as I always play a mage first and Viv and Dorian are my favorite characters so far.
Maybe if we make our quizy or one of them a KE we wont need a Warrior as much.
Knight Enchanter does sound appealing. I love mage and rogue. So the idea of being a stabby mage is like cake for me. I always like having a tank in my party, tho.
We'll see. We'll see.
Ooops. don't wanna derail the Dorian, tho.
I wonder how Dorian will view/react to Cole? Maybe he'll have sum insight to Cole?

Doesn't bother me in the least. I am glad that Bioware is including characters from diverse sexual backgrounds in their games. If only everyone was so inclusive.
Personally, I'm interested in Dorian's character for what he has to say about Tevinter politics, culture, religion, etc. I find that nation endlessly fascinating, and it hasn't really been explored that much.
THIS GIF IS MAKING A COME BACK!!!!!!!

I think they call that 'crunch time' at BioWare.
Oh I walked right into that one didn't I?
Well, that's disappointing. The character I'm most interested in for reasons unrelated to romance is restricted to the only type of romance I don't do. Drat. I guess it's fan fiction time again.
Male character I like is gay? That's already I'll just write fanfiction in which he's straight...
Hmmm... something's off about this... I've got this nagging feeling that that's not how things usually go...
YES. THE YMIRR PIC MARIA!!!!!!!!!!!
A female Qunari is shown at E3, and now 2 companions confirmed to be gay. Thank you Bioware.

It's pretty common in fanfiction for characters to not keep the same sexualities they have in canon.
I'd just like to point out that I didn't think Dorian was or is stereotypically gay. It's just that for weeks now people on here have been saying that he had to be gay based on some perception on how a gay guy would look, which is why I said the fact they turned out to be right was disappointing because I don't think his look or character is defined by his sexuality. He is just a guy who prefers guys to girls. The rest, the flamboyance, the sense of style, his passion for his cause, etc, would be there if he were straight. Or am I wrong about this?
I also notice there is a bit of an about turn about the attitude to homosexuality in Thedas. Previously we were told that people may think it a bit odd but there is no actual prejudice against gay people. Now there seems some hint that in addition to his views on the conduct of his fellow Magisters, the fact he was gay added to the alienation from his family (or did I read that wrong?) Funnily enough I raised this issue in a thread of my own only a week or so back, when I asked when it might be an issue in Thedas.
Anyway the latest news would also seem to confirm that sharp ears were correct and the son of Alexius, whose throat Lelianna cuts, was someone for whom Dorian previously cared, in other words was either once his lover or someone he would have liked to have been.
I think Dorian is great, but not because he's gay. I think it's a little ridiculous that Gaider makes such a big deal out of this. We already had Cortez, this isn't new.

Yes it is new.
A fully gay companion is completely different from a gay NPC.
now if Dorian's hair in game was as awesome as YMIRR's depiction.
*sigh*

Oh yes, I'm fully aware of this, I was making a joke about how most of the time it's straight guys that are getting turned gay in fanfiction, not the other way around
.
As someone (ie straight male) who wasn't going to be interested in a Dorian romance regardless of orientation, the interview really increased my interest in his character. It's one thing to be counter-culture of Tevinter wishing for a sort of cultural revival that washes away the corruption, but it's another to personalize "what's wrong with Tevinter" in such a way recognizable with our own lives. It's not difficult to imagine someone like Dorian becoming jaded and sarcastic after having to listen to all the arranged-marriage-perfect-mage-breeding crap throughout his life.
I'm looking forward to seeing a mage character coming from the upper echelons of society. I mean possessing real power, not cleverly tricking people into giving them some like Vivienne. I want his view on the Circle System, as an establishment that has never truly affected him.

I think Viv is quite possibly a KE but yeah lets not derail.
IDK, I assume he knows something of spirits but Solas is meant to be our fade expert so I would have guessed he would be more likely to know something.
Or am I wrong about this?

It's a problem in Tevinter because strong mages can make strong mage kids due to it being hereditary to a point.

I think Mr. Gaider meant that it is a big deal for him, because it is the first gay (not bisexual) character which he has personally written. He even says as much in the interview.
to be fair not all of thedas agrees on everything. And considering the lore about Tevinter the main problem people would have with his sexuality is that he doesn't just marry a Mage woman to have more magical children into an old family line, and have all the gay sex he wants with slaves.I'd just like to point out that I didn't think Dorian was or is stereotypically gay.
