Dorian is going to be an incredible character, and this is made clear by Gaider's interview.

He is a talented writer in general, but it is obvious that he is excited and passionate about this character, and that's how you know Dorian is going to be very well-written and wonderful. It warmed my heart to see how happy he was about doing this.  <3

It's a fact that if a person loves their job, they're going to do it well and with enthusiasm. If a person loves their character, they are going to spend more time on them and do their best to flesh them out.

The Dragon Age team is seriously THE BEST team EVER. It is so clear that they care about the game, the story and characters, each other, and all of the fans. They all seem like such beautiful and kind people, and I (and many others) really appreciate them. So congratulations to David for having this opportunity and getting to write a character he loves. It makes me really happy to see so much love and support on this thread.  :)

I think Dorian is great, but not because he's gay. I think it's a little ridiculous that Gaider makes such a big deal out of this. We already had Cortez, this isn't new.

A fully gay companion is not the same as a NPC so yes it is new and it means alot to people. It's also a new experience for Gaider so of course he's happy about it.

I expect maximum proficiency of sarcasm when it comes to Dorian :)  him also being against the things Tevinter is infamous for is a plus. It will be interesting to see how he plans to change peoples' opinions of Tevinter. What do all of you think?

I'm kind of hoping he anti-abuse but pro-slavery and when confronted with it, his retort is "Because your peasants are so free? So equal?"

Things like closing a tear into the Veil that another Magister hopened.

Of course, I'd like the opportunity to question whether he really believes that will make any difference and use examples like Garahel against him.

I wouldn't mind that. I kinda liked how Maevaris was so awesome, but even she had slaves.

Yes, well you see I haven't read World of Thedas, although each time someone quotes from it, it seems to change something that I have previously thought was lore.   However, DG wasn't quoting directly from WoT.   He used the word "shameful" rather than "selfish".    Sure it could be seen as selfish not to keep the family line going.   It also seems odd that it is okay with slaves but not with nobles, with the underlying implication than it doesn't have to be consensual.   Allowing for the fact that a gay man might find it difficult to get aroused enough to "do his duty" with a woman, so long as you were perpetuating the line, why was it "shameful" and "deviant" to have an affair with another noble? (hence my Ancient Greece analogy).

It does seem as though somewhere over the last 4-5 years we have moved from sexuality not being as big issue in Thedas, to sexuality being a big issue in Tevinter.   Now I begin to understand why everyone seemed so convinced that the rebel Tevinter Magister was going to be gay.

So he's most likely a necromancer then?

This is very unlikely because, since he is most likely an LI, players are meant to like but what if Dorian is actually in favor of most of what Tevinter does? Maybe he fully believes mages are the betters of normal people and thus, more fit to rule and what he really stands against is things like imperialism and Magisters interfering in the affairs of other nations like the one in the demo.

I was actually wondering about this very thing. We don't know exactly what it is about Tevinter he objects to and I'm rather curious to find out because he may be against a lot of things that players find reprehensible about Tevinter but not others. A Tevinter Magister, even an outcast one, still does seem like a viable candidate for whoever the "How dare he say these things!" companion is.

i hear he even lets his elves wear shoes

"He ordered one of his slaves Antivan leather boots! Not even one of his personal retinue, he was just one of the kitchen  staff!" "My word! Did he tell you why?" "He said he got them for the slave's Birth Day. What goes on in that Pavus boy's head, I will never  know..."

A female Qunari is shown at E3, and now 2 companions confirmed to be gay. Thank you Bioware.

Don't forget 2 women of color as companions, as well. Bioware is heads above other gaming companies. They understand that representation matters and that makes me happy in ways I can't express.

This will make a potential romance interesting since many of my Inquisitors will be wary of such things. I don't think I'd full on rival him - if that's even possible any more- but Dorian being a necromancer may cause some interesting romance drama.

I keep imagining Dorian being that guy who treated his slaves like friends, or like family? Like that alone could be a source of ridicule from other Magisters. "I heard that he lets them eat at the same table as him." "Oh, how disgusting! Doesn't he know elves could carry horrible diseases?" "Can you believe that the Pavus boy walks to market with his slave? He was carrying her basket  the last time!" "I know! I asked him what he thought he was doing, and he just told me that her arms were getting tired. Like it was the most normal thing in the world!" "Something is wrong with that young man..."

I have a small little...totally bad fanfiction level headcanon that Fenris/Leto used to belong to Dorian's parents, and that Dorian grew up playing with him (and maybe even developed a small crush on him) before Fenris was transferred to Denaerius and/or Dorian went away for a little while to study magic.

I'm not sure about slavery because I think a lot of people won't be able to look past that.(and it's fair enough)

I'd rather they go with him being pro magocracy.

I think there's more chance to have an interesting debate about this , we never had a companion who was like "Mages should rule and it's fine."

Not just freedom but mages are above the rest of "mortals" and ruling is their birthright.

And let Dorian be an idealist about all the rest , meaning "using magic for the greater good " and no slavery , no sacrifices...

He could justify himself saying if mages are not in power ,mages are going to be forced to do other's people bidding anyway.Because power attrack people no matter what.

Think of Hawke father who was forced to work with the Grey Wardens , they threatened Leandra if he didn't use his magic the way they wanted.

Or how the Chantry kept mages alive to use them during wars.

Having more closely read the interview, I am concerned by one thing (well, more than one, but I'm not sure how to word the other, so I will abstain):
