As a gay guy myself, I think Gaider said it to make sure that there would be no ambiguity on the subject whatsoever. I am glad he made it perfectly clear, and I highly doubt he meant it as a slight on bisexuality.

 

He might not have meant it, but it's hard to separate intent when it's something that gets casually tossed off a lot in an effort to distance monosexuality (good) from bisexuality/pansexuality (????).  

 

Like I said, I don't think he's a biphobic jerk, I just wish he would have chosen another way to put it because it kind of ruined the whole "yay, BW!" buzz I had going.

 

(For whomever asked- I would have said "Dorian is gay, and while I have written bisexual characters and characters with no defined sexuality who romanced men and women, I have never had the opportunity to write a gay character before." There. The differentiation is made between Dorian's sexuality, Zevran's sexuality, and Fenris' sexuality with no harm done to any of them.)

Again, I highly highly doubt he meant it to be offensive, so I'm sorry that it killed your buzz. But I believe he only meant it to leave no doubt whatsoever that Dorian is gay, not bisexual or playersexual.

Dorian: *clenches fists* How can you say something like that, mother?! Leto wasn't a rug! I can't just replace  him!

DM: *clicks tongue sympathetically and smooths back Dorian's hair* Oh, my darling, you are so young. You will learn not to become so attached to them with time. You'll understand when you have your own household to run.

Dorian: *draws back* I... I'm going to my room. I have... I have reading to do. *leaves quickly*

DM: *calls after him* Alright, darling! Don't forget we're having Alexius and his son over for supper tonight! I know how you lose track of time when you're studying!

Name me 5 games with prominent, openly male gay characters who play a big part in the story and who aren't resigned to cardboard cutout stereotypes or were used as amusement.

Better yet, name 3, not including Persona.

 

I'm a pansexual woman and I'll be the first to say that I've gotten a lot more good representation from BioWare.  While my feelings on Zevran are a little mixed, I thought Leliana was an excellent character.  Isabela started off shaky with me, but her friendship with Hawke and with Aveline really fleshed out the character.  On the ME side, Liara was a pretty good pansexual character in my opinion.  

 

I can even fire up a game outside of BW with a bisexual woman and have at least a chance that they aren't overly sexualized.  

 

Outside of Persona, there is very very few games that even have gay men as characters.  Most of those games that do feature gay men have them either as villains (Resident Evil: Code Veronica), as jokes (GTA 5,) or kind of as both at once (Chrono Trigger with the character Flea or Birdo from Super Mario Bros 2/Doki Doki Panic.) I'm very happy that finally we have something different.  

 

Part of the reason why I'm all about representation of LGBTQ characters and PoC is because of the choices it offers me as a player.  I just get sick and tired of having games offer me the same thing over and over again, either as the PC or in my party.   I get tired of the same old cliches and stereotypes with my traveling partners.

Well I've been feeling also strangely emotional about the news too.

Just this morning I was joking around with some dude , we were making some painting and had paint all over our hands and he was like it would be fun to make handprint on someone's buttocks.

The closest person next to us was a guy who was bend over writing something, so I'm like "yeah go ahead."

You know just being silly.He went all "eewww I'm not gay".

 

I'm living in a small town so sadly those kind of thing happens quite often.Even my 18 years old nephew doesn't like gay people.

It upset me a great deal , because he's young and I think being well kind of ignorant and a bit hateful is really sad.

I know lots of it has to do with the culture he grew up with ...

 

So having openly gay characters in a medium like video games just makes me hopeful maybe some misguided kid can get a clue , there's nothing bad about homosexuality .Or bisexuality or transexual etc...

 As a female gamer who actually usually plays as a male character, I can safely say I'm pretty darn happy about today's events. However, I'm really mostly happy for those who are members of the LGBTQ community. I know many of you have been waiting for this type of representation in video games for a very long time, and I'm ridiculously happy for you all. It's truly a really fantastic day for gaming I think.

 

 As for the character of Dorian, I'm really looking forward to having a Tevinter companion who kind of goes against everything we've come to hear about Tevinter. It should add a really interesting dynamic to not only the Inquisition, but to the whole world of Thedas and how we see it.

Finally! This is what I've been waiting for! A fully gay companion that isn't a bisexual who has only had meaningful relationships with women in his past and pretty much states that his job is the main factor that makes him sleep with men and constantly has to check with a male character whether or not they're cool with him liking men, a clearly straight character that has his sexuality changed for the sake of diversity and only if you play as a male character, otherwise he's still pretty much a straight character, or a character that is claimed to be a bisexual, yet only canonically engages in consensual sex with a female as long as a male character doesn't hit on him! Finally, we have a real gay character that isn't hidden away or has their sexuality downplayed and I am excited as all hell for this!
