Well, for the first time my first player-character will be male. Usually I don't get around to it until the 3rd playthrough or so, but Dorian is already my favorite and I want to romance him first. Now should I be a human or an elf? Hmm...

 

Congrats, btw! It's always nice to see society change in a good direction. Having openly gay main characters in a videogame is a major milestone, and I'm happy that it's finally happening.

Finally! This is what I've been waiting for! A fully gay companion that isn't a bisexual who has only had meaningful relationships with women in his past and pretty much states that his job is the main factor that makes him sleep with men and constantly has to check with a male character whether or not they're cool with him liking men, a clearly straight character that has his sexuality changed for the sake of diversity and only if you play as a male character, otherwise he's still pretty much a straight character, or a character that is claimed to be a bisexual, yet only canonically engages in consensual sex with a female as long as a male character doesn't hit on him! Finally, we have a real gay character that isn't hidden away or has their sexuality downplayed and I am excited as all hell for this!

Complexity can come in many forms. Bill and Ellie from the Last of Us, Sander Cohen from Bioshock, Arcade Gannon and Veronica from Fallout New Vegas, (both playable too, technically) Tommy from Indigo Prophecy,  Kanji Tatsumi and Naoto Shiragame from Persona 4, the gay couple in The Walking Dead.

 

Need I go on?

 

You don't need to romance anyone to make it complex. That is just a bonus, if anything. 

 

Hell, Zevran and Leliana also count in this, if were keeping track. And yea, bisexuals count too. Just saying. 

 

But it's clearly not such a given.  He's the first gay male companion in a Bioware game.  The first.  

 

And how about other games?  How many gay men can you name in video games who were not either demonized, offensively stereotypical, or killed maliciously?

I.... did not know or expect Dorian was gay, to bad, i liked the look of him for my first female playthrough... but i see my self playing through this a bunch of times, so i guess i now like the look of him for my first homosexual character... 

 

Unless something changes, i was planning on playing DA2 as a straight character and ended up falling for Anders.... then killing him at the end :/
