Can I ask where that gif is from?
Robin Hood Men in Tights, very funny movie if you haven't seen it and I thought it was appropriate since I keep comparing Dorian to Robin XD The "dashing" line kind of sealed it.

That's what I said about Cullen. lol
Dunno, we know if Cullen will be straight or bsex? Did I miss something? ![]()
Huh... I always thought the experiment was what turned his hair white. It never occurred to me it could be natural but now that I think on it, they never said his hair wasn't originally white.
I've always assumed it was the experiment, seeing as how his eyebrows are jet black, plus Bioware usually sticks to natural hair-colors for its elves, giving the relatively young Fenris white hair seemed like a deliberate contrast.
I'm not actually too fond of his transformation from likable moustached "rogue" to full blown hipster minus the ironic glasses...
**runs**
I wouldn't phrase it like that but I do agree the mustache gives him character. Plus is makes him look like one of my first crushes, so I get a bit of a nostalgic feeling from his appearance.
Looking at the pics with and without, I mostly find the moustache to be a non-factor in his overall attractiveness. His hair and general face structure I really like.
The mustache sells the character, makes him stand out, makes him more unique.
I would say he struck me as Greek also, maybe Turkish. But somewhere from around the Mediterranean.
Where I grew up there was a rather significant Greek population, port city so lots of European ethnicities other than just the Scandinavians and Germans.
Omg! I can totally see Turkish too! I never thought of that!
Dunno, we know if Cullen will be straight or bsex? Did I miss something?
lol, more like wishful thinking on my part though since he'd at least be straight, and I want to romance him with a male inquisitor. I've never liked both gay romances Bioware give, it's usually one or the other. If Cullen is Bi, then it would be one of those rare occurrences where I have both romances I like while playing through the game. At least if Cullen is straight, I wouldn't have to decide whether Dorian or Cullen would be my canon file.
I'm unsure why, but the darker skin tone gives him a more...exotic look, I guess? It's really grown on me, which is weird, because I'm normally more attracted to paler men.Looking at the pics with and without, I mostly find the moustache to be a non-factor in his overall attractiveness. I agree that Dorian looks give him a middle eastern vibe. He's attractive regardless of his ethnic motivation, though I do hope they refine his mustache a bit. Up close it kind of looks like a texture that hasn't loaded properly or something. He's way to suave to suffer a less than perfect stache.
Soooooo, at the risk of playing with some fire (note, this means I'll be returning to the thread to read up on responses.... choose your decisions to be disrespectful wisely), I don't have any huuuuuge issue over discussing Dorian's appearance.
Internally, Dorian used to be a very anglo-germanic appearance. Unambiguously white. As such, I likely have a bias to seeing him as non-white since I have that comparison. It was a temporary model, so I don't know if this was intentional and then changed for this reason, but I believe that it was. And I think that this version turned out better than the original version (there was other aspects that were different about his face, although they were often buggy and incomplete).
I'm someone that hasn't really received that much exposure to cultural diversity, by nature of living where I am and not traveling much during my life... so I'm a poor judge but I would have probably placed him as being probably from the middle east or maybe some of the neighbouring locales from there. Just my two cents on the topic anyways.
I was reading him as similiar to Oded Fher (that is who I was hearing in my head until the E3 demo for him at least), but since discovering that his VA is East Indian, that is all I can see now.

And here is the song that goes with gif
At the risk of sounding stubborn, this is why I said what I said before. Going nuts over such things, no matter how positive or negative they may be, how biased one can get, is kind of foolish. I don't get why people are making a big deal out of him regarding his race equally to the big deal regarding his sexuality, it should be a non-issue, but it apparently is.
Which I guess is fine, but that then depends on perception more than anything else, which is a whole other problem in of itself.

Look, i'm not sure if it's worth responding but I will try anyway. Why wouldn't people go nuts over positive things in a game they like and why is that oh so wrong and foolish?
Media reflects society and so when the media does not reflect you all that much, you kinda feel like you are not considered part of the society or at least not an accepted and equal part. So when the media does reflect you and it does it in a positive way it's gonna make you happy.
Whether or not race/sexuality should be an issue is irrelevant because it is an issue. Yes I know you dug up some gay characters that existed in other games and you could do the same for characters with various ethnic backgrounds. Instead of just doing that I would advise you to try and think about why these groups often feel that they are not well represented in games (and the media in general), rather than trying to prove them wrong.
By the way, congrats to all those who will be able to romance Dorian with their preferred gender!!
I already have my second male Inquisitor playthrough to romance him planned... in fact, I have a clearer picture of what I want for that playthrough than I do for my main.
Quick, someone help me decide between an elf or a human to romance Cullen with.

Classic human female mage sounds good. Oh, the days of Amell.

Well I planned a menage a trois for months this time ( finally I would say, in fact I always picked one big love for my main character, origins and 2 ), so if not Cullen/F!Inquisitor/Dorian, no problem at all, Sera seem pretty cool to me as well
for the next play throughs.. I'll think about it
Maferath, I also saw my Inquisitor as a "scruffy human," which I thought would be an interesting counterbalance to the dapper Dorian (assuming he's an LI). Maybe Mr. Schumacher could clarify that last point?
(Now reel him in...)

Ok, one, I am part of that society, so please stop separating me because that just pisses me off.
Two, and more importantly, the media no longer reflects the sterotype, which is mostly my point. But I was asked to not talk about this anymore. If you wish, we can discuss it further in a private message.

I get a Byzantine, Greek, Turkish, Persian, or Etruscan vibe from Dorian's face (not the facial hair obv lol though there were Romans even emperors who apparently had mustaches). Alexius looks like a Roman senator to me in contrast. If Dorian's family is very old and esteemed maybe they can trace themselves back to one of the tribes or kingdoms that was assimilated or became the empire. Too lazy to look them up but they're in WoT
Can't wait to have Dorian offer to do magic non-Tevinters consider distasteful. Oh the outrage, lovely.

What kind of magic would be distasteful? Spirit and healing?

If I can't play a female qunari due to race-gating, then I'm playing a female mage elf (who's anti-shemlen to boot). Although, a human mage could be fun if you had a female Amell as a Warden.
For Dorian, I am totally going with a plucky male dwarf (granted he actually is an LI).

I have always been somewhat baffled by the statement "it shouldn't be an issue, why are we still talking about this" because all someone has to do is look at the world and see it's needed. While it is 100% totally without-a-doubt the goal, it is by no means met. It's like people would rather sweep whatever troubles minorities face under the rug because they, personally, don't want to deal with it or it makes them uncomfortable.
I don't understand why someone would look at someone who is happy and tell them their happiness is unwarranted or pointless. Dorian looks like a badass with some serious power and I can't wait to see him side-by-side with my Inquisitor. Having a gay main character in these games has been a fantastic, singular, experience for me it's something that isn't possible anywhere else, at least not on this scale (that I know of).
Ok, one, I am part of that society, so please stop separating me because that just pisses me off.
I never claimed that you were not. I would have clarified that but it felt like too much text, I don't hold to the view that you can't have your own opinion about the group you are not in. Anyway, even though you are part of a minority, other people in that minority are telling you they do not feel well represented in media and you don't seem to be interested in why they feel that way. You just dismiss their opinions as foolish.

Um I am happy to discuss it in pm but really what I wanted to say is what I have already said.

His magic was briefly touched upon in the new interview but there's no "he does necromancy" mention. I'm still holding on to my hunch of what it is
"powerful elemental spells, as well as spells involving the control of spirit and the dead—things societies outside of Tevinter might turn up their noses at and claim “distasteful.”
In Origins at least that was Spirit school. I rolled out a Necromancer that way
I'm trying to decide what kind of man to romance Dorian with. A part of me wants to go with a similarly stylish and dashing man. The more I think about it though, the more I want to romance him with a very salt-of-the-earth, brawny warrior type. On the other hand, it would be cool to nerd out with him about magic too...

Thats fine. Thats more of a trigger for me because of marginalization within marginalized groups. It's not fun.
As to everything else, fair enough. I will keep my mouth shut at this point.

If possible, I'm going to romance with him my manly Qunari mage. You don't get more rebellious than that, I think.
