Thats fine. Thats more of a trigger for me because of marginalization within marginalized groups. It's not fun.

As to everything else, fair enough. I will keep my mouth shut at this point.

I get where you are coming from and don't think I am saying you are wrong. I just think you could do with looking into why people feel this way a little more. I am happy to hear opinions that I do not agree with but anyway I will drop it now so as not to derail this thread.

I'm unsure why, but the darker skin tone gives him a more...exotic look, I guess? It's really grown on me, which is weird, because I'm normally more attracted to paler men.

:)

And to me, personally, his darker skin makes him feel more familiar to me. Because I'm more used to that.

From some angles (especially from far away, like when we first saw his in-game model) his model looks like my half-brother... and that is pretty much a buzz kill. Up close he looks pretty different. I just have to focus on the angles where he doesn't look anything like any of my family members.... and convince myself it's not weird

I think this whole "is Dorian white or not?" thing also shows how subjective how we read race is.

Yep , I mean where I'm from people from mediterranean origin can be seen as white or people of color depending if they're from Southern Europe or Northern Africa.

And skin colors has little to do about it , or even overall features.

It's mostly cultural.

If Dorian is an LI, I'm going to go with a human mage to romance him. I feel like his story will impact me more if the character I've paired with him is also a mage.

I want to do an elven bow rogue for a second playthrough. I'd like to romance someone else the second time, honestly, but I'll just have to see if anyone else I like is available. If not, he might end up with both. lol

What kind of magic would be distasteful? Spirit and healing?

Nah, the necromancy part.

Edit: Whoops repost. Oh well, it's super cute, lol.

Why does Dorian have Joseph's Coat of Many Colors?

Nah, the necromancy part.

Makes sense in Tevinter though. I don't think they see it as distasteful, unless Necromancy is considered the weak version of Blood Magic.

It could be, in fact thats a nice way to go with it. Well see, I guess.

Anyone looking forward to seeing how Dorian defends his magic if there's a party debate about it? I always play a necromancer sort so I'm ready for this and cackling mad to see this sort of interaction. Not that my mages will care. Maybe I'll have my rogue express fear or something.

From the sound of it the spirit/necromancy magic is the norm and fine in Tevinter, but treated with suspicion outside.

I thought Nevarra did Necromancy too though.

I think that original poster misspoke and was referring to the White Thedas Circles seeing Necromancy as distasteful.

Yeah, but the Mortalitasi aren't affiliated with the Circles in any way. They are a mage order that is an exception to the norm, cause they have the protection of the Nevarran throne, whom Orlais can't afford to cross.

I'm kinda worried DA:I will have those confrontations, or something like it, similar to ME2 with all these conflicting opinions within the group and we'll have to pick sides.

"non-Tevinters consider distasteful." anyone not from the Imperium.

Well, the Mortalitasi are still feared outside of Nevarra and were founded by a Tevinter mage in the first place. I guess they're not connected anymore, but yeah, I'm aware of those two nations having the shady magic to the rest if the nations.

Well, hopefully they have the third option that appeases everyone.

I can't wait to hear from Dorian's perspective how magic is taught in the Imperium!

Spoiler

I took a long nap from work and woke up to this too late. Ah, well, it doesn't dampen my excitement at the prospect of meeting our first openly gay companion. This definitely means a lot to not only me, but most importantly, to David and to others who have echoed the same sentiment.

As for Dorian himself?

Sorta randomly given the current conversation:

I personally hope Dorian doesn't have slaves-- and I'll post the amusing reason rather than the moral reason as everyone knows that: I like guys that can do stuff for themselves. And it would let me imagine he can cook. I like a man who can cook.

But...

How mindblowing would it be for every other Tevinter magister if Dorian didn't keep slaves but servants. If he paid them? And paid them as well as he was able before his exile.

That piece of fanart is seriously making me consider rolling a Dalish rogue rather than the scruffy human I had in mind. But that'll mostly depend on the character creator.

NO.

SCRUFFY HUMAN MASTER RACE!!!111!!
