I went back and read the first few pages of the thread to see some of the initial speculation about Dramatic Hands Moustache Guy:

 

I keep thinking that he's not a companion and is going to be a seneschal instead.  I see him as a counterpart to Scribe Girl.  I think that he's going to be the one to take care of the larger issues in the keep, including trade, emissaries, etc.  And I think that Scribe Girl is going to be the one take care of the personal issues for the Inquisitor (like Chambers and Traynor in the ME series), such as personal correspondences and arranging your meetings with important NPCs and companions. 

 

I know that he's got concept art that shows him with weapons, but we've never seen him in armor and his weaponry is a bit odd (a spear/halberd/staff thing and a sword).  His polearm could be an interesting way to add in some diversity in weaponry without having to worry about altering the game mechanics at all.  A seneschal could easily be combat trained, so that would make sense to me. 

 

This is all just speculation and guesswork though.

 

I'm pretty sure Gaider said the Dorian concept was scrapped. No I'm not hunting down a quote.

This guy's facial hair makes me think of Alexander Dumas books. Thus I think he is Orlesian. His behavior in the map room concept art makes me think he is in charge of that room. He doesn't like his maps being mistreated. I think he is an NPC.

I think the opposite. A magister and a qunari would generally hate each other, but since they're not your typical magister or qunari, their relationship will be different from the normal one.
Granted, there might be tension if they talk about the relationship between Tevinter and the Qun.

Yours sounds like the one I like so far and from the sound of how they are being presented, I find it is easily backed up.

I mean mustache guy has no real armor , he's sort of wrapped up in some white blanket ...
Maybe Mustache guy is Dorian the magister , he sure doesn't look like he belongs in Tevinter and he seems a bit "flamboyant" with the facial hair and everything?

My early guesses have been pretty good, I think. I'm proud.

 

-Dorian from the survey, still in party.

-Cole from the survey, still in party.

-Cullen as an NPC.

-Sera/Dorian as gay companions.

 

But now that I mentioned it, everything else I guess will be wrong from here on out. lol

To be honest , the first time I saw Dorian was the survey picture , and my first thought was ...wait, pornstache?Is this a mullet??...What the hell, is he wearing some white blanket?Looks like some barbarian backwater chevalier ...Good lord , I hope this character won't end up in the game .

Well, for about a month I was convinced that Solas was "Dorian from the survey", before we knew anything about him, so I'm not exactly trusting my predictions from now on.

 

(Once DHMG started appearing in more art and it seemed like he was a companion, though, I was pretty sure he was Dorian. Before that when I thought Solas was Dorian, I was starting to think DHMG was a chevalier.)

 

That said, some people were thinking DHMG was just Blackwall ("the Grey Warden") from a different angle, or Stroud.

It was from a song called Back Pages by the 60s group The Byrds.  I was just referencing that line in the chorus, because it randomly jumped to mind.

What really amazes me is how damn accurate the survey was in regards to all the characters.

 

Remember that DAI was originally due out last year, which was only about a year after that survey was leaked.

 

Given the lead times involved in creating or significantly changing companions, I'm not really surprised at all that it's been almost totally correct. We'd have to think that the decisions about companion characters were locked down years ago, at this point.

 

(For example, Mae couldn't make it into the game as a companion, and her character was created around the same time as the surveys, or even earlier.)

Anyone else think running a team with a dalish elf mage inquisitor, Dorian, Sera, and Solas would be hilarious? I think that may be my second run. 3 elves and a tevinter magister. Fenris would flip his ****.

The character descriptions were quite different for Iron Bull, Sera and Cole in the survey. They received a morality upgrade, especially Cole and Sera. Also, IB doesn't appear to be a Tal-Vashoth anymore.

Funnily enough, I was going to romance him with a dalish elf named Oberyn.

Looking at the pics with and without, I mostly find the moustache to be a non-factor in his overall attractiveness.  His hair and general face structure I really like.

 

Looking at him enough, the moustache grows on you.   I know, don't say it.

 

Actually the more I look at him, the more I like him. He's dapper! I'll definitely befriend him with my inquisitor and if possible, pursue a romance. He'll get along famously with my inq mage who will as sarcastic as possible at all times. I just hope I can join him and Viv when they tear into people. The unholy trinity

Must say that QA took me from uninterested in this character to the one I'm looking forward to most.  I won't be romancing him since I'm straight but everything else pretty much describes me.

 

Think my party so far is going to be Dorian, Varric, Iron Bull, and myself being a male Qunari Knight Enchanter mage for anything not heavily involving other characters in the plot.
