I'm sure he actually did say their would be some in the game because he said not every race/gender combination would have the same amount of LI options.

Also, I highly doubt that Dorian or Sera will be race gated, given that they the first two gay companions in the series. An elf model and a human model strikes me less tricky to work with than, say, a dwarf or qunari model.

Ok, I'm just curious. Was race-gating confirmed as an actual thing or was it made up to give us anxiety??
It's 100% confirmed.

Some races will have fewer options than others.

I agree with this. I plan on rolling an elf for my first playthrough so I hope the race-gating is minimal. However, it does incentivize playing as different races- something I rarely did in DA:O. I'm pretty sure, to this day, I've never played a dwarf.

FFS I ran out of likes in the Solas thread.
Do you think Dorian would be race gated in any way? Like, from what we know of him... which is teensy bits... I don't see anything poking out as him not getting along with dwarves or somesuch.

If anything, Dorian might be race gated against Qunari because they and Tevinter don't get along, but your Inquisitor isn't of the Qun, so maybe it doesn't matter. I could see them only race gating the bi options to save on cutscenes.

Didn't Gaider mention IB and his relationship is interesting? I took that as a positive one.

I think it's more just a practical consideration, it seems weird to race-gate the gay and lesbian options.
(Because you'd have, like, a tiny fraction of your fans who would ever actually see that content.)
I wouldn't put it past them, but to me it will depend on how many more romances there are in the game - I actually expect quite a few smaller flirting arcs beyond the major companion and NPC LIs.
Dorian not being able to romance human males seems almost impossible, to me, given how many players only use humans.

The two Dwarf origins in DA:O are the best, imo. I strongly recommend playing them at least once. ![]()

it seemed like it was mostly done for practical reasons, not story reasons.

My favorite origin is actually dwarf noble, I love how you can choose whether or not to get involved in the underhanded politics. You can even have the whole thing as being your idea and Bhelen just offers to help and then screws you over. That's what my Dwarf Warden did and now she's a paragon Bhelen better not get to comfortable on that throne. ![]()
Hopefully there will be elements like that in Inquisition what with them talking about getting invovled in the grand game GOT/ASOIAF style.

You know it occurs to me that Solas and Dorian may actually be able to change my views on mages, as they seem to be fairly sane and well-adjusted individuals. And wow they could have great banter.
They certainly took the "why are all mages insane/blood-crazed?" feedback from DA2 to heart ![]()

Sure, but I imagine they'll back it up with a reason that makes sense in terms of the story when they can.

Ohh man I hope you are wrong? because thats exactly why I wanted to romance him with a Qunari Mage and not human
given the interesting premise (a tevinter mage and qunari mage together in love while both their people fight each other)

I agree. I certainly hope not too, since I'm looking forward to romancing them with every race.
To be honest, I feel like the quote in the Iron Bull interview was a hint that he could be a race-gated LI (or just a fling maybe). It would make the most sense too, considering his unique build.
