Man I wish I had a very masculine muscle man that didn't also have horns to long for.  They were on the right track with Blackwall, but I wouldn't mind if they kicked it up a notch.

That said, from what we know of Dorian's personality, he seems like he's poised to be a good normal kind of guy.  As of right now I don't get the sense that he's going to be a caricature of some personality trait or clique or something, and that's really nice to me.  Sometimes I like a character that is there as a representation of a character type, but I'm glad they don't seem to be going that way with Dorian, particularly since he's going to be a first as an unambiguously gay man.

I just hope he's not TOO normal. I like characters with a mind of their own.

For the record, I liked Steve particularly because he didn't have a  predominant character trait.  To me he felt like a pretty normal, grounded character and his romance arc felt pretty natural to me.  He was a regular guy and that was kind of nice since LIs often come with an overwhelming neurosis or two.

I mostly meant that he's not there as a physical manifestation of some ideal or character trait.  For example, in my opinion Anders in DA2 sometimes suffered from being an avatar for the radical mage freedom movement instead of a character.  It's fine for a character to hold those beliefs, but there should be more to them than that.

Edit:  I'm rather sad by the lack of info when it comes to Blackwall's opinion of the other companions.  Oh well.  There's still time.

ok, that's something I agree with, but I don't want one-dimensional characters who are just standing there and have nothing important to say. I like intelligent and smart characters who sometimes overestimate themselves and still makes mistakes. but who are also important, a little sarcastic and still very friendly. or who are cold to other people but vulnerable inside. Anders was a bit to one-dimensional. I liked him, but he was too extreme in his belief.

David Gaider talks Dorian and PoC over on his Tumblr:

I hadn't really given the subject much thought ... nor drawn any fanart.

I hadn't seen this in this thread for the past two pages so figured I'd share.

As for Dorian's changing concept, racial connotations aside, I'm really happy they settled on this design for Dorian over the version in the war table shot. Like, really, REALLY happy. I think he looks absolutely amazing.

Personally I don't mind having Freddie Mercury in Dragon Age so long as it's done right. If he starts being something like Anders was DA2 and has only one trait define him then I won't like him. I doubt that's gonna happen, I think Dorian has to the potential to be much like Cortez for ME3 with a bit more charm but we'll have to see when the game comes out.

Those IGN comments,  I know I shouldn't have looked but I had to look once I read about them. One of them actually made me throw up in my mouth a little bit.

Anyway I wanna forget about them and talk about something else so i'll chime in on the "stereotypically gay" thing.

I think it's easier to find steriotypes if you look for them. I could think of many things about myself that are stereotypically gay traits but nobody has ever assumed I was gay or guessed that I was. Trying to change yourself so that you don't conform to stereotypes is silly and I think writing a character to be as unstereotypical as possible would also be kinda silly.

If they made Solas gay then that's just making the elf LGBT again so it's a stereotype, IB's promiscuity is already considered a bioware stereotype for bisexuals (if he actually is bi), I guess we could call a gay Blackwall a bear and even Cullen could be called stereotypical seeing as he is all well groomed and pretty. Dorian seems fine as far as representation goes in my opinion.

Both IGN and gamespot have made videos and articles discussing Dorian being gay. They are click baiting and fishing for all the comments that they obviously attract. You didn't see them making a deal about any of the other characters Bioware has been revealing. Things like that ****** me off.

Uh, I don't know why that word is censored, I didn't know it was considered a bad one o.O

Promiscuous bisexuals go way beyond Bioware. That's a general media trope, unfortunately.

I am having a hard time not getting really mad at the internet right now, if I am honest. Allot of people are now criticizing bioware for advertising Dorian as gay (now they have dropped the "fully gay" thing) as though they had some press release saying "this is our new gay character".

Yeah I know but bioware had zev and isabela which they got flack for and allot of people seem to see IB as a continuation of this stereotype because of them.

Honestly Dorian being gay shouldn't be all that shocking to people...or cause controversy for that matter. You would think people would be beyond getting up in arms and filled with vile a character being gay...sadly we're not.

Exactly. It was only mentioned in the writer interview, and they are solely focusing on it as if that was the point of his character. Like always, it looks like the haters are making this a bigger deal than the fans themselves. Ridiculous.

I can't really say I fully understand the annoyance about sites writing articles about Dorian's sexuality.  I've only actually read the IGN article, but it was essentially just a recap of Gaider's portion of the interview.  Sure, it focused on the gay part, but then again so did this thread when we were all discussing how important and groundbreaking it is to have an open and unambiguously gay love interest for the first time.

I don't know.  I just don't get it.

It's different because while we are legitimately celebrating the first ever gay Dragon Age character, they are just taking advantage of this to make articles and videos that will get a lot of traffic and focus on Dorian being gay so they attract the usual people that instantly hate on stuff like that.

Anyone fearing race restrictions with Dorian? I'm really hopeful he'll be open to all races. I'd love to romance him as an elf or as a dwarf and I'll be really disappointed if that's impossible. .-.

I'm so angry by the some of the stupidity I've seen posted over the internet over Dorian's sexuality. Nobody seemed to care when Sera was announced as a lesbian, but Dorian being gay kicks up a fuss.

I have a feeling that he and Sera (and whoever is straight) will not be race-gated because they are already gender gated.  It seems excessive.  Although, I've been wrong before (and will be again, I'm sure).

Yeah, Maker hear your words. I'm not too happy about gender locking, but then there's race locking. If there's class locking, I swear. -.- At least he's locked to the gender I wanted to romance him as hee hee but I'm still a supporter of playersexuality.

What were you wrong about? :o
