With Dorian's issues with his family, I'm wondering about Maevrais. Dave talked about how the upper levels of Tevinter society tend to frown upon anything "different" and Mae is pretty far outside of the norm of what most people would consider to be a prim and proper member of the Magisterium. Maybe Varric will mention her in his banter with Dorian?
It's unclear how many people know she is transgender, but it could also be that she is willing to keep up appearances and etiquitte, so that anything unexpected under the dress would not be of importance. It is unclear if there are established gender roles in Tevinter, as far as I know, but it is possible that there are none. If that is the case the exhibition of any gender despite original biology could be moot.

You guys are amazing. One minute y'all serious talk about slavery and magocracy and suddenly BOOM sensual baths, skimpy outfit, ropes, Dorian on his knees and what not.

I would assume its a matter of raw magical talent. In that interview Dave did mention that most of the upper echelon gives the impression of mage perfection but hide what they do in private.
Perhaps Dorian didn't want to hide who he is? Or perhaps given his his sharp tongue he said the wrong thing and got the Prince Zuko treatment?

I do wonder about Mae and would love to find out more-- maybe Dorian knows her? I mean not only is she transgender (is that the correct term in this context? Someone please correct me if it isn't
) but her husband was a dwarf. Seems very outside the box where it comes to what the Magisters would prefer. Unless she's just so powerful it doesn't matter? At least to her magister status. She's just off the table when it comes to being considered... uh... breeding stock, as it were.
(I could see those who are particularly against her calling her a male and the like, if they're aware of her being trans.
)

Yeah, she's transgender. And I think of it's more of her being a powerful magister, and people being smart enough to not p!ss her off.

Or he saw what was being done and was just, well, done with it? While I imagine he ran into plenty of personal injustices, I think, to be a 'redeemer' he doesn't have to have suffered an injustice to his own personal being. At least not before he started spitting on how their society works.
It could have started with him witnessing something he didn't like, and then it all clicked into place that 'this is wrong', 'this isn't how I want my country to be', 'I refuse to compromise myself for 'comfort'.'

"Those Halla horns would make a nice ornament"
"And your teeth would make a fine necklace. Also, if you have eaten halla horns before, it'd be a good idea for your redemption to include making it up to their families."

Nothing good. Dalish in Tevinter are no more than Marauders.

As a redeemer I hope to see him empathise with the Dalish and be apologetic (or willing to be educated if he doesn't understand), but at the same time, I don't think there's much he can say other than he's sorry brutality happened. I'd hope he'd be much more focused on what's happening in his country in the here and now, seeing that's what he has experience with himself and wants to change.
