As a redeemer I hope to see him empathise with the Dalish and be apologetic (or willing to be educated if he doesn't understand), but at the same time, I don't think there's much he can say other than he's sorry brutality happened. I'd hope he'd be much more focused, however, on what's happening in his country in the here and now, seeing that's what he has experience with himself.

There's that, to be sure. I wonder if he'd be interested in pulling out of Arlathan...

Displacing his people for the sake of a nation that hasn't existed for two thousand years?

Yeah, I don't think he is on board with it.

Well, then, we may have an issue. Just because you receive stolen property you didn't steal doesn't make the property not stolen.

I can't speak for Dorian, of course, because we don't know his stance yet, but that might involve some more... debate/a compromise. I mean he's a young man, so what happened with the Dalish is far in the past to him, especially as his nation wasn't effected negatively, so while I could (and hope) he empathises, he might have trouble understanding how that land shouldn't belong to Tevinter, simply because that's how it's always been to him? There's also the issue of displacing the people of his country and where could they go from there?

I hope he won't be uncaring towards the Dalish, but there's more nuances with that particular issue, I think? Especially when the Dalish aren't his primary focus.

It's been two thousand years. Old men and young men in Tevinter are of a mind in this because it's been two thousand years.

Very true. And that amount of years makes it even more difficult to pull away from the idea that "but that land belongs to Tevinter? Where would the people there go if we just take that away?" :)

The Dalish can certainly bite back to that with a strong argument, mind. What with how they've been displaced for centuries.

Well, any elves in the area wouldn't have a problem unless they prefer being enslaved. Depending on what we learn about the Quickening, it's possible that humans could live there too... but more important than settlement by far is investigation. I want to find the original city.

It would certainly be an interesting discussion to have, though I'm not sure how much Dorian, himself, would know. Admittedly that might limit the conversations about the Dalish we have with him? Seeing Bioware also has to keep new players in mind that might not know all the nuances of the lore.

I do hope we get to explore that part of the lore/that area, though! Some of the Chantry lines that have been paired with images and screen shots from the DA twitter page have seemed to hint at it?

One hopes indeed...

Also, this conversation has inspired my new avatar, that might sum up the general thrust of my Inquisitor's feelings on the matter of Arlathan (provided the audience gets the reference).

One particular thing that I have been wondering about Dorian is at what point in his life did he leave his Tevinter lifestyle. Being that he has developed a notable dislike for some of what the place is known for (such as slavery) to leave, I would say he would at least have to be old enough to the point to where he understood it and not wanted to be a part of it though I am getting the feeling that it has only been recently when he abandoned that lifestyle he had there. Any thoughts on this?

I don't think he abandoned Tevinter as soon as he decided he didn't like what was going on. It sounds like something might have happened to finally spur his exile. What that something was, I have no idea, of course, but it's possible I imagine he was trying to help from within/at least rebel against the norm before whatever happened happened.

Either that, or he actually HAS been away from Tevinter for longer and the world going to hell is what made him decide to come forward, help, and make his case known.

I wonder how old Dorian is. I know all our companions are supposed to be 'older', but I get the impression he might be amongst the younger spectrum, though certainly not as young as Alistair was.

Yea I guess he does sound like the kind of person who would stay in his homeland and try to improve things from the inside. I do like the idea of him leaving not out of dislike, but out of the fact that some people from Tevinter such as the magisters are after him for something he did like freeing slaves.

If I had to guess his age from appearance I would say he is older than Sera or Cole, but younger than the rest. So, maybe early thirties?

Well, the DG interview mentioned that Dorian 'caught wind' of a particular act that his fellow mages were committing and that was the moment he decided to intervene. What that specific event was remains to be seen. From what I gathered, it appears that an amalgamation of the corruption and the stigmatization of his sexuality built up over time contributed to his departure from Tevinter. He's also described to be jaded and sarcastic about the whole concept of manipulation to advance oneself in Tevinter society, which to me, sounds like it's been occurring long enough for him to cultivate resentment towards his country.

antivanrogue:

josephine, leaning forward as if to advise the inquisitor in an important meeting, whispering in their ear: “i cannot stop thinking about the way you touched me last night”

iron bull, putting on a show of polishing his weapon, sliding his grip roughly down the handle and making the inquisitor’s mouth go dry

sera, tossing an apple to the inquisitor and biting into her own, moaning in exaggerated pleasure, eyelashes fluttering as she sucks on the flesh of the fruit

dorian, shooting tiny sparks up the inquisitor’s spine whenever he walks past, making the inquisitor stutter in his conversation and lose his train of thought as dorian snickers to himself

Found this at tumblr. I'm in full support of the LIs messing with the Inquisitor.
