So, for a while now I've had this little "project"...
Today was the first time that I looked into the mirror post-shaving and post-trimming and realized I may be close to achieving critical twirling mass.
I figured the Dorian thread would probably be the most likely to appreciate this.
Now I just need a monocle and/or one of those old timey barbells.
(disregard the horrible camera)

I want to * grabby hands * , but no i will be an upstanding member of this thread i won't follow my basic instincts. But that is a good one dear sir , i would just touch it with my figer tips and ........ the creep is back on . By the Fade , no more sexy stuff for today , more tea and cheese and heavy breathing.
New video up!
*video snip*
There's some Dorian "stuff" in there
Bloody hell man XD I made the mistake of watching that with the volume up loud and nearly fell off my chair at DEMONS XD
Dorian is incredibly stereotypical for a gay, look at his flamboyant character, could they not make him any more obvious that he is gay?

Oh Maker`s breath! Why are beards and moustaches so sexy *melts*
I'll disagree with that.Dorian is incredibly stereotypical for a gay, look at his flamboyant character, could they not make him any more obvious that he is gay?

I'll disagree with that.
Sorry but it's like 6am I cba to give my argument. Suffice it to say he does not have the stereotypes of a flamboyant gay to be a stereotypical flamboyant gay person, IMHO.
A quick google search on the words, "flamboyant gay" comes up (lol) with lots of pictures of Brüno. Lol.
^Pretty much this post.
If anything, he's the stereotypical male version of Morrigan, without the ultra-cynicism. Maybe not. I actually see him as a tad Morrigan, with sprinklings of a mage Han Solo or a medieval Tony Stark. Man, Dorian would totally work just as well as a rogue as he does a mage. Ugh, someone draw me rogue!Dorian or smuggler!Dorian in sexy leather. Everyone knows Rogues do it from behind, so why not lump Dorian in that mess?!
@Naughty Bear: Why are you just placing him in one individual archetype, anyways? It's obvious there is more to Dorian than his sexuality, regardless of whether he's open about it or not. And I think you're mixing up what is stereotypical of a flamboyantly gay person and the hard definition of flamboyant. Both Vivienne and Dorian are flamboyant characters, in that they stay true to the defintion; they both seem to be uber confident individuals, to the point of being cocky, and have a great flair for fashion and that all of it is to draw forth attention. Dorian doesn't seem the type to be going around belting out showtunes, snapping his finger after every sassy quip, doesn't look like he just wants a piece of dat ass, isn't going overboard with his wardrobe, doesn't have an audible lisp, and hasn't made a habit of yelling a lot.
MIND YOU I DO NOT MEAN TO OFFEND ANYONE. There is nothing wrong with being flamboyantly gay or adhering to stereotypes, I'm just pointing out certain stereotypes that are associated with flamboyant men. Hell, I like belting out showtunes and I'm pretty sure everyone here is just as thirsty as the next guy or gal for that Dorian ass. There's nothing wrong with stereotypes unless they are being used in ignorance or are being abused as a means to insult a person or a community.
I actually think it's a lot worse to just put one label on a character and call it a day. It doesn't matter if Dorian is flamboyantly gay or not, but it does matter if that's all you're seeing about his character and personality. That's not okay, as there is obviously more to Dorian than his sexuality, otherwise it would probably be an offense to writing if that were true and what Bioware stands for or is known for. Romance isn't the only thing in a Dragon Age game and there is more to a story and a character than romance and sex. Dorian has layers, as, I'm sure, Gaider intended for him. I mean, it's in his description and flavor text and no where in there does it say that he's just gay; in fact, no where in there does it say that he's gay. From what we're given, there's definitely more layers to Dorian than his sexuality.
Dorian is far from being a stereotype, even if he does show some blatant stereotypes. There's nothing wrong with that, though, because I'm pretty sure a lot of us have fallen into certain stereotypes before. The question is: why do stereotypes even matter? A lot of stereotypes are meant as derogatory terms when they shouldn't be; I don't see anything wrong with liking Lady Gaga or Showtunes or anything else stereotypical of a gay man. Just because they show a few stereotypical tendencies doesn't mean they are less of a person, or in terms of fictional characters, indicative of bad writing.
You should understand that Bioware takes a lot of time and effort into making their characters realistic and believable and they have more in mind than just, "Is this person gay/straight/bisexual/lesbian/transexual/etc?" I'm pretty sure they make an effort to create the character first and then determine if they would fit as an LI or if a certain sexuality makes sense for that person or not. If you took away that Dorian and Sera are gay or that Cullen and Cassandra are straight, they'd have plenty of traits and flaws in there to keep them believable and just as good a character as they were when their sexuality was evident.

NOW.
I DEMAND MORE ALTUS ASS! OUR THIRST CANNOT BE SATIATED!
Sixsmith - now I feel badly for objectifying Dorian with all my lustful thoughts...I never considered whether he was stereotypically gay or not, unless it impacts those eyes, dat ass, or the 'stache, it hasn't really crossed my mind.
Well, except for the section in Part 2 of the demo, where Dorian haz a sad...I would hold and comfort him until he felt up to being my plaything again, I mean, what?
Dorian is incredibly stereotypical for a gay, look at his flamboyant character, could they not make him any more obvious that he is gay?

For starters the only thing we've seen of Dorian is the demo footage and he does nothing I would describe as flamboyant in it. Secondly... no that's pretty much it, this topic is stupid.

Totally agree! No signs of any stereotypes rearing their ugly, yet finally put together, heads yet!
Cortez wasn't flamboyant and non of the Bi males were either so why can't Dorian be? He is a noble after all.

There's no reason he can't be! I don't see anything wrong with it, but I just don't think I see it from what we were given in the demo and what Gaider described.
Mind you, this is coming from a guy who is very into more masculine dudes and features. It's merely preference and opinion, so it doesn't matter, in retrospect. If I don't like Dorian, I'll have Iron Bull, but from what I'm seeing, I will definitely like Dorian.
@Freedheart: Also, there is absolutely nothing wrong with being uber lustful over Dorian's... let's face it, everything. But, especially dat voice and dat 'stache.

I wouldn't call him flamboyant either, just a bit metrosexual from what we have been shown. I guess there will always be some who insist that he is an offensive stereotype though just because he isn't like Blackwall. ![]()
Then again maybe Blackwall is flamboyant. ![]()
*fans self*It's not called "The Staff of Violation" for nothing.

Flamboyant!Blackwall is now my headcanon. Lol. Who knows, he might be the team's raging Bear and there are just as many stereotypes associated with burly gay men as there is flamboyantly gay men.
I guess, to a gay man who abhors femininity, it's more okay to be a stereotypical bear than a flamboyant gay man. *Le Shrug* It doesn't affect my every day life, so why should I worry about how people act or who people are?
But, yeah, I agree that there will always be that person who just has to exaggerate one thing and make it the entire character because it doesn't adhere to their personal preference or taste.
I think it's wrong to do that because it completely defeats the purpose of a multi-faceted character that a writer/author has slaved over so long to create. Gaider has a tough shell, as seen from a lot of his interviews, but I still think it kinda hurts when someone takes your character and degrades them to one quality, ignoring everything else that makes them who they are, regardless of whether or not the quality is good or bad. I just don't like inflating just one little thing and ignoring everything else.
But, I think that (what I just described) is a lot different than, you know... wanting Dorian as a romance so badly. I mean that is one thing we focus on, but it's obvious, from this thread alone, that people are just as interested in sexy!Dorian as they are Dorian himself and what he will bring to the story and his personality, instead of just, "What will he do for the inquisitor in a romance/in bed/etc?"
Everybody wants a taste of dat magister staff...

I still feel sorry for him about the backlash he got over Dorians reveal. The fully gay comment was an unfortunate mistake and he was obviously just saying that for the benefit of fans who wanted to romance him. Also a bunch of news sites put Dorian's sexuality as headline news and then Bioware and Gaider got backlash for that as though they had posted a press release announcing him as the gay character.
I am sure he is used to it though and over it by now.
