Okay I'm sorry but I need to say something here. You say you liked his voice but knowing who gave him such a wonderful voice is.. Annoying? A voice actor breathes life into the words on a page (or screen these days) and they work their butt off, sitting in one quiet and usually warm and stuffy room for HOURS, having to repeat lines over and over, having to keep their energy up all that time, having to keep the voice consistent in between sessions (good luck being sick cause you're screwed) and having celebrities who know **** all about voice acting taking a much, MUCH larger paycheck than yours home because they're famous... And yet you sound and are much more talented. This is a very hard job. It takes a lot of skill and goddamn if I don't look up to those guys.
Can you imagine how life would be if Dorian sounded like he was voiced by someone from a C grade English anime dub? What if he had a godawful English accent that didn't sound real at all? What if his romance lines were all pitchy and monotone? It'd ruin the wonderful words written by Gaider, it'd ruin the direction from Caroline... It'd make them look bad. It happens. Ruined potential because the voice actor and/or direction was crap. Soooo many games fall prey to it.
Please. Show some respect for that. You might not know what goes into voice acting, but there you are. It's a tough job and whoever Dorians voice actor is... I'm so impressed. I want to know who that bastard is and I want to give him a truckload of compliments and squees and whatever.
I wouldn't be able to keep a straight face when doing the grunts for when your character gets injured or are doing something strenuous. That's my line for if people are good at VA or not. If they can do that a thousand times without quitting, like, "I can't do this; I'm gonna crack up. Goodbye." then they're amazing in my book. XD I'm joking, but you know... whatever, lol.
I watched Her—it was amazing, even if I get super uncomfortable during the sex scenes because I was like 'Oh God, can anyone hear these noises? WHAT IF THEY THINK I'M WATCHING PORN?!'—and Scarlett Johansson did a commendable job with her role as the OS. It was amazing how much life she breathed into her character and how much she could work her voice. My comment was in jest because I love Voice Actors, especially those who can do a giant range of voices like Steve Blum. I was not joking about Freddie Prinze, Jr., though. I didn't like Vega, but he did a wonderful job. And god... he's really nice to look at.
And Jennifer Hale? Oh my lord, she is in everything. I was playing JK:JA the other day and rolled a twi'lek and was like... "Is... is that..? OH MY GOD IT IS!" she is in everything and you can understand why. Her voice is powerful and recognizable. She may not do things crazy like Blum, but whatever role she plays, she plays it amazingly and with such passion. Her performance in the Mass Effect series was phenomenal and gave me chills. I mean, everyone in that game (I almost called it a movie and it honestly can be called that because it pretty much is, quality wise and everything) was beyond amazing, no matter how small those parts were. The guy who played Mordin in ME3, I could tell was a different actor because Mordin was my favorite character (it was higher pitched a lot faster, more melodic, even), did a great job picking that role up after ME2 and giving just as much power as the original actor would have. If they'd butchered that VA, I wouldn't have cried when he died, but they picked the right guy and he just blew me away.
Anyways, I think that's too much off-topic. Dorian's voice is beautiful and we can owe that to the VA being exceptional, as well as Gaider's writing for being amazing, as always.
So, aside from his sarcasm and wit, what does everyone like about Dorian, or find attractive in him? Minus the 'stache. Because we all love his 'stache, his voice, and his wit! D:< Though, I think that knocks out the majority of choices that aren't just speculation... ._. if it does, then **** it. >_>
I personally love his eyes and his hair cut, as well as his idealism. I think Dorian's the type of person who always sees the good in people, no matter what. Though, that last bit is speculation, as well. I only derived that because Bioware has only ever showed us the bad in Tevinter and then they give us Dorian who loves his country for all that it is, but thinks it's not beyond saving (despite the bad qualities being so deeply rooted in their society that taking it out would be like taking out that one piece in Jenga, on the bottom, that's holding everything up). It might be more personal to him, though, since he's lived there all his life.
I also love the fanart. All this art is so well done and I applaud everyone for their sense of humor and their creativity and their skill.
Keep up the good work.
In other words: gimme gimme.
