20 minutes of hunting through all the fanart in this enormous thread.
Thanks, Elu.
I'm pretty set on romancing Dorian in my first playthrough, but if I get around to doing a female playthrough, then I will do everything possible to make Dorian my BFF.
Eh. The character threads seem to be 80% about romances at this point (maybe because we don't know much else about them yet) and I'm not surprised that the m/m option is just numerically not as popular as someone like Cullen, Solas or even Josephine. At the end of the day the threads aren't really a popularity contest, and I'm sure after release there'll be more people who are interested in other aspects of Dorian's character than the romance arc.
Some did stop posting after he was confirmed as gay, but I assume that's because a reasonably large proportion of people who are posting in this subforum are doing so because they're imagining or planning future romances, or something. If they only focus on the romances in Bioware's games, that's their decision I guess, and from that perspective I understand the mindset of ignoring a gay character if your overwhelming interest is in female Inquisitors romancing males.
(Some of the reactions to Solas or Cullen are pretty bewildering to me regardless, so I've just come to accept that Bioware's games and Dragon Age in particular attract all sorts of fans, and that's fine. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
So from the interviews discussing Dorian, they've made it pretty clear that a lot of the reason for Dorian's label as a pariah comes partially by choice. You know, because while he could choose to stay quiet about the corruption in Tevinter, he doesn't. And as far as being gay, it doesn't seem like the problem is likeing guys, it's the fact that he's not willing to go find a woman as well in order to continue the family line.
So I was just wondering, would you guys agree that, based on that, Dorian would probably be the type to not be willing to hide his relationship with the Inquisitor from the rest of the group? No right or wrong answer, obviously, I was just thinking about ways the different romances might differ, and I started thinking about this because I could see certain LIs possibly wanting to keep things quiet, but Dorian... Personally, I can't see Dorian having any interest in that.
So what do you guys think?
I like the idea of him being blunt about his attraction. Though I know from past experience in bi/gay romances they have to be like, "Are you okay with me liking guys" or something similar.
From what we've read, I don't think he'd hide it.
Some role playing and a lot of time in character creator they can. Just remember your an elf girl who is a very heavy smoker.

Ugh, I HOPE we don't get Dorian tentatively asking permission to flirt with us. :/ It already felt super out of character for Zevran-- I can't see how, with what we know of Dorian, that it'd be any more in character for him. If they can't have the LIs make the first move anymore (because of gay-panicked dudebros), then hopefully when the Inquisitor makes the first move, Dorian accepts that at face value and doesn't tiptoe around his interest for you. ("Are you SURE you're interested in me, Inquisitor? You DO know I'm a dude and you're a dude and that means we'd do dude-on-dude things together. Maybe you just accidentally hit that glowing heart icon? Here's some more dialogue to give you the chance to back out now, just in case.") *CROSSES FINGERS*
In your opinion which two companions are best to accompany Dorian and male mage Inquisitor? I know its early to decide but for example Cassandra might become a thorn on your side if she has problems with Dorian and his way of thinking and there is big chance she does. I do like her but I doubt taking her with this party would be fun unless of course we actually want to see conflict.
Also since I always like to play on higher difficulties I probably have to take a rogue and warrior. Sorry Vivi and Solas, you won't accompany the inquisitor on my first playthrough as there is no room for a 3rd mage on harder difficulties.

Apparently team YOLO is awesome: Sera, Iron Bull and Dorian. I think I wanna travel with them.
It didn't work because there were still people complaining that Anders and Zevran ninjamanced them. It's unfortunate but I guess we are still in a time where you have to be a bit careful... IDK. I hope it won't be like:
Dorian: "Inquisitor-sama... I... I..."
"I like men!! Is... is that okay with you..." [shifts around nervously]
"...Is what I WOULD say if this were a different story! *winks* But you clearly don't mind since you spoke of touching my manly mustache while I slept. *raises brow* Darling, you needn't wait until I slumber before indulging such understandable urges."

I have to admit, my first reaction is "(gasp!) how dare that fanartist make one of the few homosexual characters in video games straight!".
But, I can empathise with not being able to romance a character in game whose sexuality is incompatible with yours. For those who're set on only playing female inquisitors, well, sorry that Dorian's unavailable unless it's through a mod. Otherwise, nothing's stopping you from trying your luck, anyway, if there's the option to at least flirt- he'll probably just turn you down- gently, hopefully.

Well, the Bioware panel at GaymerX2 did practically say "nuts to 'dudebro' sensibilities! If this is what's in character for this character, tough luck if you don't like it." I'm quite ready to sucker-punch any ignorami who whinges about it still.

I'm so much about balance that the fact that I'm intent on playing as a mage on my first playthrough and keeping Dorian as a near-constant companion on my quests means that Vivienne and Solas would be sitting out for a good chunk of the time, unless there's a quest specific for them.
So that leaves warriors and rogues. Iron Bull is shaping up to be a favourite of mine and Sera to complete the four spots would make for team #YOLO Patrick Weekes was talking about (was it Patrick Weekes who coined it?). However, I have such a soft-spot for Cole that I want my Inquisitor to take him under his wing and be like a guardian or parental figure of sorts.

I'd say Varric and the Bull with Dorian...
They have stuff in common.
Varric is also some kind of pariah (surface dwarf) his family were nobles , and he probably isn't really fond of the hypocrisy of the Merchant Guild/Dwarven caste System.Although he just deals with it , somehow.
Dwarves are also best bud with the Tevinter Empirium.+ funny nickname FTW.
And the Bull , because him and Dorian just can't go back to their country right now.
Dorian made a choice about this , and wants his country to change.
The Bull just doesn't fit the Qun anymore , and I don't feel like he wants the Qun to change.
And the Qunari and Tevinter are at war with each others for some time now...so.
And of course I'm going to have Vivi and Dorian at one point together , FOR SCIENCE.It has to be done.
Edit: oh and there's team YOLO .Switch Sera and Varric from time to time , for extra fun.

It might be because people have become accustomed to the idea, but the amount of whining about the gay and lesbian characters seems to have dropped a lot this time around.

Believe me If I had good option for FPC I woldn't hurt me so. But It seems Blackwall isn't LI, Iron Bull and Solas are ugly, so I will cry my eyes that handsome Dorian for MPC only.

I do have a luxuryproblem. I am 100 % sure I am gonna play elf. And I prefer being mage. But I am really really excited about Dorian and Solas, both mages. So I guess I have to play warrior or rogue coz three mage parties are to much.
So prob gonna be a lot of Solas, Dorian, maleElfWarrior and Varric. And Im keeping an eye for Blackwall and Cole as well. They look interesting. In general the males are more interesting than females this time around. Sera, and particulary Cassandra and Viv are just "meh" for me.
I'm hoping there might be a trigger with the romances? Like, if we click that big ol' gold heart, that triggers flirting? I mean, I know they make the companions passive so the player can initiate the romances, but I sure hope they step up and become active in the romance once the Inquisitor flirts with them.
...It's really hard to rp shy characters when they have to do the outrageous flirts.
Or even better, there be something we can do to trigger the romance. Like... In ME3, when giving Kaidan the bottle of whiskey makes him actually make comments about being interested before male Shepard ever really has any dialogue on the matter. Maybe make it more obvious so people don't complain, but I think it'd be cool if they did set it up so that there was an option to do something that doesn't necessarily constitute making the first move to act as a trigger for Dorian's interest/flirting.
I wonder if there would be options for Shy characters to romance. Or if the only way to activate one is through being assertive and flirtatious.
There has to be some leeway into some characters making the first move on your player-character in a same sex relationship.
Like, I don't know, Dorian sizing you up, and then offhandedly comments that he didn't hear what you said because he's "distracted" by a certain servant in the kitchens. And then the options are like
And that should trigger this sequence of dialogue which hopefully would involve Dorian making the first move on your Inquisitor.
...But this is just speculation and me making this up on the fly.

- (direct) Well, stop and start paying attention because I'm not gonna repeat myself.
- (humorous) You're not going to be this ditzy in heat of a battle, are you?
- (diplomatic) It's been a long day, so I understand.
- (♥♥♥ BIG RED FLASHING ALL-THE-H0MO OPTION LOL DON'T CLICK IF CANNOT HANDLE THE GAAAAAAAAAY!! ♥♥♥) Oh really? Where?

Goddamn it, Dorian. You could at least have the decency to be distracted by my Inquisitor's choice arse!

I really hope there is some options for shy characters. I have nothing against playing flirtatious characters, but... you know, it's fun to mix it up? And with characters like Dorian and Iron Bull, who both seem assertive and flirtatious, it would be fun to play a character who isn't so assertive off of either of them.
I think if he could, he would probably even try to introduce the Inquisitor to the in-laws back in Tevinter, regardless of their evident disapproval.
A part of me wonders if Dorian's family would, in fact, approve of him being with the Inquisitor. Especially a mage Inquisitor since he's, also, talented in the arcane arts and has the power that most Tevinter magisters seem to vie for. Dorian and the Inquisitor wouldn't be able to make magical superbabies without the use of a turkey baster and a surrogate mother, but I could see the Pavus family viewing the Inquisitor as an incredible asset.

I understand that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but in my opinion, gay guys got the luck of the draw in Inquisition with both Dorian and Iron Bull. If we happen to get Varric, too, my testes will explode from the sheer amount of masculinity offered to us. Make it happen, Bioware!

That's a really interesting point, actually.
I'm not sure whether raw power calculations would overcome their desire for heterosexually-produced Pavus babies, though, based on what we know about the major families' obsession with ancestry and legacies. There's also the issue of whether a Dorian-Inquisitor relationship would actually receive recognition or respect in Tevinter, or if it'd be a source of shame or embarrassment for his family. That one could go either way, I think.
(World of Thedas seems to imply that ~any~ kind of open or public same-sex relationship is a matter of scandal in Ferelden and Tevinter, if not perhaps Orlais, but that seems to be limited to nobles or other kinds of famous individuals.)
Part of me is also uncomfortable with that rather Machiavellian approach to love and romance, regardless, and I think Dorian might be even more bitter about his family if it turns out the only way they'll accept his sexuality is if his partner is the commander of the most powerful authority in Thedas.
At this point, I think he's realized that nothing he does will ever be quite good enough for his family, which is pretty sad in all honesty. Really makes me feel for the guy. That's a really interesting point, actually.

Obviously, that would also be a response option. That, or having the Inquisitor make a comment along the lines of "Really? Personally, I find you far more distracting than they are."
Oh God. My ideas of my Inquisitor flirting are all so bad. This is why I would love to have Dorian make the first move.

GURL, don't let that stop you! I'm gonna go with a male elf and romance the sh*t out of that fine piece of Tevinter ass! ![]()
Still, I can understand your POV. That pic is glorious!
