I am up for anything Tevinter-related in a DLC. GIMME ALLLL DAT. Who knows? We might meet some of the in-laws in the game.

I was thinking Dorian's mother may be a cold-hearted queen beyotch who neglects her kids or summin.

Dorian: I think that went rather well.

Inquisitor: I don't think that threatening to re-open the Breach over the Imperium would constitute "rather well".

Dorian: It was an excellent bluff, and the green glow was a nice touch.

Inquisitor: I'm glad it made you feel better.

Dorian: Better? I think my father needed to change his pants after that display. It was certainly one of the best family dinners I've had.

This is brill!

You guys, I ran out of likes. Such wit in this thread.

By my understanding, the Altus are like the Patricians of ancient Rome and the Magisters like Senators.

This is what I assumed, too.

I was under the impression that Dorian's parents are magisters by virtue of being part of an Altus bloodline and strictly adhering to Tevinter's social standards, and that Dorian was eligible to become a magister, but no one was willing to elect him to the Magisterium due to his rebelliousness. Unless I've seriously misunderstood Tevinter politics, have missed some sort of confirmation about Dorian and his family, and/or have taken my own headcanon as fact...

No, I think this is correct. DG clarified that although Dorian wasn't a magister, his status as Altus allows him eligibility to become one. In conjunction to the bolded part, it's been noted that the Pavus family is influential so magister or not, I expect Mama Pavus and/or Papa Pavus to likely play a role in the Tevinter political system.

Edit: Found the transcript here

Not necessarily. They can just be very, very influential Altus people without the magister status. That being said, I do believe one of both of his parents are magisters.

Why couldn't his parents be Altus, and be using their children to further their nobility? For all we Dorian could have a brother or sister holding the title of magister. Dorian could just be a fault in their plan to have their family sitting in a seat of power.

One aspect of Dorian initially strikes me as battered woman who says that "he" still loves "her".

Who cares what Tevinter "was" - look at what Tevinter "is"... Mr. Pariah.

Go make "a center of magical learning" somewhere else... I know, how about the Inquisition?  So long as he's good with no blood magic or spirit possession (outside of specialized groups devoted to their study) - Dorian and I will be just fine.

Patriotism  can be extremely strong, though, especially if Tevinter is the only home he's ever known. If your homeland is being undermined by its corruption, who wouldn't try to save it if they could? Walking away would imply that it's a lost cause, and I don't think he seems ready to accept that.

(I mean, sure, he seems a bit idealistic to be going up against thousands of years of tradition and all the magisters single-handedly, but to someone who sees romance in being quixotic that might even make it more inviting.)

From how Dorian talked about Alexius I wonder if he wasn't apprenticed as soon as his magical potential became apparent?

Based off of Feynriel's letter from Tevinter in DA2 apprentices are constantly at their master's side, so if Dorian was living and training with Alexius and his family for most of his life then I'd imagine it might have been hard to go back to life with the Pavus clan.

If that is the case, then perhaps Dorian has something to do with why Alexius and the Venatori are outside of the Imperium. Dorian's family must be pretty influential in Tevinter, so when their son comes back from his apprenticeship with "deficiencies" (in their eyes) who do you suppose they'd blame?

I think the next DA will take place in Tevinter. It seems like they are kind of charging up for some epic battle in Tevinter in the next game (elven rebellion, qanari etc)

I hope so. Tevinter sounds like such an enchanting place (ba-dum-pish!).

At least they have better accent in Tevinter.

I still don't know how I'm going to bear all that Orlesian accent.

You will get used to it. :) At least it sounds better than german-english or Scandinavian-english.

Yeah. I'm concerned as well. And I say that as someone who can speak French and likes it.

Actually the in-game accent is ridiculous. I've heard French people talking English and its no way close to that. They only have problem with R and that's it.

Yeah, I was trying to convey that my problem is with the in-game accent, not the language. I've only heard a couple of French people speak English in real life and it never bothered me. Now especially Leliana and Isolde...

Waiting for Dorian VA reveal/confirmation... it's so barren in this forum atm.

B-but Corinne Kempa (Leliana) is French/English... that's her natural accent.

I also shake my head at the using of several seperate accents for one nationality, Ughghghghhghgh.

Complete with interview, video footage, and some sample lines of in-game dialogue... preferably when he's being intimate with the Inquisitor.

Am I asking too much? Yeah, I might be asking too much...
