Hello to you too! I have been wandering the forums for a while trying to see how I want to approach DAI and I've come to the conclusion that I will be a Human Male Rogue , strives to do good in the world , has a diplomatic/sarcastic/witty way about him and is going to romance the hell outta Dorian! lol :D

Hehe.

But I was personally more distracted by what Varric is doing with his tush. Pretty sure he is twerking Vivienne.

Actually I'm pretty sure that'd lead to him leaving the party/going bat sh*t crazy and turning into an abomination...

Hello everybody.

Ever since I learnt of the possibility of having a "magister from Tevinter as a companion I was intrigued, but when more was told about Dorian things got even better despite the fleeting disappointment when I found out said magister/altus was not the bald elf guy.

Now I really look forward to meet this character more so since I have two big questions about him: what do you think is Dorian's plan to redeem Tevinter? Does he even have one? How hard can my Inquisitor bang him?

Okay, three questions..... and an almost fanatical devotion to the mustache.

Now, calmly analyzing the facts.

From what I've gathered, and I might have completely misunderstood, Dorian left his homeland because he found out someone (the magisters?) was doing "something" (bad? focibly tonsuring nobles'chins like Ivan the Terrible?) and he wanted to stop them proving not all of Tevinter's mages are the same; still Gaider's interview also mentioned Dorian's disdain for some aspects of the society he lived in made him a pariah, thus while there is one specific cause behind his 'exile' (?) it is also true Dorian took issues with the Tevinter ways long before discovering the wicked, wicked Tevinter Plan.

We also know he could have gone far with his cunnings, his magical prowess, family and intelligence still he was enough of an idealist to choose to be true to himself instead of playing a charade. Still played he must have, at least for a while and to an extent, since Tevinter is a nation fighting a war (albeit a semi-cold war) against the Qunari and, almost periodically, is shaken by slaves rebellions (if the codex found in Kirkwall is anything to go by) so I do not see the Magisterium taking lightly to some high born mage "playing the hero" instead of "supporting his country" as he should. Besides what Alexius says during the demo: "...all I have betrayed.." leads me to think his pupil and him could have been part of some conspiracy to curb the corrupt magisters' power.

This is interesting since it could mean even the upper echelons of Tevinters harbor people willing to fight for a change in their society. Another kind of "mage underground" that could join forces with the slaves and force a change.

This last part is nothing but wild speculation, I know, but it seems plausible (to me, at least).

And now, for something completely different: I love how Bioware is having "important" homosexual companions in Inquisition not only whose defining trait is other than their sexuality (the redeemer, the wild card), but whose presence seems to be fundamental to the plot.

It is important to many (especially young) people.

Um, to me it seems like Dorian was trying to stop Alexius, actually. Since he did *something*, screwed all up and desperately was trying to fix everything but failed. And it seems that *something* has something to do with the holes in the sky.

Another possibility indeed, after all the whole phrase becomes ambiguous once we lack knowledge of the context.

Still, before the whole trying to fix the bad 'something' he did that made Leliana pay him a visit he could have betrayed the Imperium; after all Dorian calls him "a man I compared all others to" after the battle ends and he says: “How many times have I tried? The past cannot be undone. All that I fought for, all that I betrayed. What have I wrought? Ruin and death, that is nothing else.

He might be referring to a failed attempt to fix whatever he did in which case I don't know whom he betrayed (the Inquisition?) still I think he refers to something else.

I dunno, we still know close to nothing but it's just the way I see it. And Dorian said "once he was a man I compared all others to". For me it sounds like "not anymore - now f-ing look at him".

And all that he betrayed may mean all that he did, what he lost - he did for nothing, like the theory abouth the magisters that came to the "golden city" only to find out that it's not what they thought it would be (i.e. if we'll take Corypheus words for "it was already black and we (magisters) have nothing to do with it"). And "all the lies he told himself" sounds to me like he imagined he was making the world a better place, maybe? Or just imagined he knew what he was doing.

Ah, who knows.

Maybe he sacrificed a bunch of people or something like that - he said that the Inquisitor is his final failure,so that he didn't kill him/her? He can refer to that day when the protagonist survived and made out of the fade unharmed (mostly).

Dorian did mention that Alexius' amulet is similar to one the two of them built in Minrathous.

Perhaps the Inquisition mistakenly thought Alexius was the big bad, or that he was the brains behind the Venatori. He does reference a failed assassination attempt on the part of the Inquisition.

If we can send in various team members for the Castle Redcliffe mission I wonder what would happen if we sent Dorian instead of Leliana?

I think we can send only someone who's not playable, like Leliana.

I also hope we can choose not to send anyone, because what the hell.

True! The part about the amulet escaped my mind. In that case yes, it makes sense that the Inquisition would try to assassinate him if they thought him the mastermind behind the Veil tears.

Maybe such an amulet was made by Dorian and him to try and "fix" whatever the Tevinter Magisters did.

Anyway I doubt the advisors would let you send a mage, the trarget's pupil on top of that, as an assassin instead of a rogue.

I'm thinking the Venatori is some sort of cult that might be getting out of control, like worships the Old Gods or something to do with the Fade/Spirits and mixed up in the rifts plot somehow. Maybe the Tevinters are partially responsible for the rifts. Maybe some are even trying to close them as well (now I'm thinking too Elder Scrolls here - like everyone being affected by the Rifts). Maybe I missed the information on this. Oh well.

Right now I'm mostly wondering about little details. Like is the present Archon of the Imperium a Laetan or Altus, and the same question for Alexius. I mean, 1/3 of the Archons are Laetan. I'm probably most interested in learning more about the social structure and political environment and hearing about Byzantine powergames going on over there. Least interested in hearing about the inbreeding. If it ends up just like Purebloods in Harry Potter to a T, I'm going to get bored quickly.

I'd love to know more about the Venatori and Alexius especially, besides more about Dorian and his family. I think it's safe to say the biggest thing I'm looking forward to now is the lore update we'll hopefully get on Tevinter. Of course it might not be as much as I'd like, but I'm sure we'll learn more than we did in the previous two games, considering who Dorian is. I'll probably max out any stats with charm or persuasion in order to pump Alexius, Dorian, etc for as much info on the Imperium as possible during my first playthrough.

Since the party is apparently going to tease the LI romancing the Inquisitor I wonder how Vivienne will respond?

Vivienne: For Maker's sake, get a room Pavus.

Dorian: You disapprove?

Vivienne: I'm Orlesian, Darling. Your little eccentricity is nothing compared to the antics the nobility indulges in.

Dorian: Why my dear Vivienne, to think that there might be something akin to compassion in that cold iron lump you call a heart. It simply boggles the mind.

Vivienne: Please, if the Inquisitor's affections keep you from chattering away like a drunken scullery maid then I should consider myself lucky.
