I'm going to now reveal that I did think his original moustache was slightly excessive. Even before Allan drew that picture with half the Amazon sprouting from DHMG's face.
The thinner moustache suits him better anyway, I think.

Yep, it's slightly hidden in the shadows, like an assassin made of facial hair.
It's easier to see in the screenshots that have been lightened, it runs along his chin.
