I would caution against reading too much into random developer statements.

Perhaps it's some touching scene, or perhaps the friendly-fire controls finally started working and Dorian keeps nuking his whole party.

Or maybe he discovered a ninjamance bug (Leliana, you trickster!) and Dorian unexpectedly started getting all gooey on him.

These tweets seem genuine to me. Even before the last two romances were revealed, PW made a similar comment regarding Dorian's romance. If they feel that strongly about it, then I'm inclined to trust them.

The context there isn't really clear.

I'm not saying that you should doubt the content (he's being written by David, after all, which should be all the indication anyone needs IMO), but not every message portends great things. (I simply don't want people to get all excited and then have Allan come in and explain how he was really just talking about something boring.)

I feel it's safer not to get my hopes up. It's just led to disappointment, so far. Zevran and Fenris were the least involved characters in their games and straight characters have historically been the more important, more developed ones. I feel safer in keeping that in mind and expecting it to happen again. If it's not true, I'll be surprised in a good way. I just don't want another let down.

Inquisitor: The great Dorian Pavus reduced to putty in my hands. I'd never thought I'd see the day.

Dorian: I know! I'd have thought that it would have been the other way around, what with my dashing good looks, impeccable wit, and excellent sense of humor.

Inquisitor: (Rolls eyes) I believe that you left out your incredible modesty, dear.

I feel like the Dorian romance is going to be "important". Well as important as romances goes , you get the same story content with friendship , romance just add little touch here and there.

We know he's trying to keep his countrymen from helping the Big Bad.That's main story material.

Dorian...

I hope to see you front and center stage in this character line-up.

Like, we're talking Beyoncé levels of being a centrepiece in the game (along with some other characters just to be fair).

Y'all saw this, I assume?

Allan Schumacher @AllanSchumacher

To be clear to #DAI fans, I just think Dorian is awesome :)

I saw a bug in the DAI database just simply titled, "dorian kiss scene". I didn't think it had anything to do with Allan, but now I can't be sure.

Well Zev apparently doesn't even deserve a cameo in Inquisition. Never mind the fact the other LIs from Origins have incredibly huge roles, not only in Inquisition but in the books and comics as well. He gets a horribly bugged cameo in DAII and apparently we're supposed to be satisfied with that. (I'll never not be pissed about this)

I don't think it's a bad thing that he didn't have a place in Inquisition.

It would be nice if he did, I agree, and it sucks that his plot flags were so screwed up in Origins (so that he could never be imported correctly into DA2), but I don't think every past character needs to get dragged along to every subsequent installment, especially if it's just going to be a vanity cameo that doesn't really give you any new information about them (other than that they're still alive, which we already know Zevran is).

We know some major past romance options are returning, but we don't know if all of them will (or what will happen to those who do), and some of the characters who also showed up in DA2 have been positively apathetic about their past romances (does Leliana even mention it?).

As for the books and comics... you can't fit every character into every story (except Shale; she makes her own room). I think they've been used appropriately to tell the stories that David wanted to tell, and they've been completely separated from anything the player may have been involved in (including potential romance).

Maybe we'll see Zevran again some day; I certainly wouldn't bet against it. We know he's still active in Thedas, and perhaps we'll learn more of the fate of the Warden in Inquisition.

To be honest, I'm very optimistic about David writing Dorian.

I can recount all my favorite characters, and the majority of them were written by him. Deekin. Valen. Alistair. Zevran. Morrigan. Shale. Finn. Shale. Fenris. Shale.

All David's. All favorites.

You can just add Dorian and Cassandra to the list now, if you want. ;)

I'm not sure Zevran and Fenris' plot relevance impacts their characters to any significant degree, however. Fenris was just as well developed as any of the other characters, and I actually found his story to be deeply impactful (if poorly paced). Zevran also received significant development (you can see as you start to pierce his facade and witness the feelings he develops for you) despite being one of the less integral members of the Origins plot.

What is it that you think is lacking if the romance option for gay or lesbian players isn't one of the foundational companions? Does it just affect your perception of the significance of the content (if it wasn't the gay character, it would be more important to the overarching plot), or do you notice actual differences between the romance content created for Zevran (for instance) and for Alistair or Morrigan?

Well, it mostly just depends on how important the Venatori really are. We've seen multiple factions helping the "big bad". We fight the red templars (Cullen) and the grey wardens (Blackwall). We know Solas is a rift expert and rifts are a pretty big deal in the game. The only one that I can't see much "main story" content for is Iron Bull. It's possible that Dorian and the Venatori are very important and main story stuff, but we could also maybe just never activate the Venatori plot and only suffer some agents and resources lost, for all we know. Right now, we just don't know enough about the role of all the factions to say.

Maybe I'm being pessimistic, but I feel like they're mostly just talking about Dorian to distract us from the three straight guy announcement.

To be fair though, the "men have nothing to complain about cause they get Dorian" does sound somewhat dismissive.
Granted, I think her enthusiasm for Dorian is entirely genuine, but the wording does leave a bit desired.

The only conceivable reason all the devs could love the same romance is if it's incredibly meaningful and then someone dies. Dorian dies guys. Gird your tear ducts.

If I were the devs I'd be pretty dismissive by this point too.

People are being entirely unreasonable about this. Everyone still has two options, and most of them look like fantastic characters.

But yes, I'm not interested in his romance but interested in the idea of the Teviner Reformer. The idea that not all Tevinter are happy with being evil and he's trying to change his society for the better is a really cool idea.

I hope he's successful.

I played a similar character in Knights of the Old Republic with my Light Side Sith Lords.
