The important question is...is there room for two?

You mean a love seat.

I'm getting on this train a little late, but I just want to say that I am disappointed about 3 straight men in DA:I, but you all have to think about how amazing that is for all the gal gamers out there that have to be exposed to the enormous ENORMOUS amounts of objectification they get in video games. Do you know how many years and sequels it took them before they finally deobjectified Lara Croft? She's like a teenager and when you think about her now it's not about her breasts, but about how badass she really is and how well crafted her personality is now. I think it's about time that women get more options than straight male white pale gamers.

I am still disappointed that I can no longer shag either Blackwall or Cullen, but that is balanced out by this lovely hunk of a man we're all talkin' 'bout, as well as that other large hunk of a man with the horns and the sexiness.

Are we forgetting about all those lovely Varric-mancers, though? :( Two games and they have no chance of being able to romance their lovely dwarf man.

Bah, the talk around here has never been above pg 13....some of the images though...well those are only linked at least. and usually under spoilers as well.  I'm always shocked that so many people playing a rated M game are so scared of the slightest mention of gay sex.   -_-

Hun, you have no idea how long it took me to find the actual naughty image of Iron Bull that was linked. I had to go through like five tumblrs just to find it and a google search. Q_Q

I like talkin about naughty times with Dorian, though, and hearing some more risque fantasies that people have. But, I am one of those people who will understand if someone wants to change the topic or disappear for a few pages because they don't like talking about sex or anything more sexual than sex. Whatever that is.

When two Galaxies Collide? When a black hole meets another black hole and they eat each other to create an even bigger black hole? Is that sexual?

Oh baby spaghettify me for what seems like an eternity before you crush me into an atom sized ball of mass. Getting to third base past that even horizon.

What am I even...

This isn't even on topic anymore.

Someone, please escort me out so I can have some time to recollect my thoughts on Dorian and his amazing bubble butt. Er, mustache.

I am okay with the three straight male romances in the game. I think it is great for the women that play DAI, but I think there is more to it than that. When, DA brought back races to the game there hand to be an incentive to play them. In a role playing game we like to be a fictional personification of yourselves. But, as fictional as we make ourselves we will always have our main character that is just about the same in any play through. A role playing game is built on choices, and in a game where you get to pick your race and gender there has to be complications to that choice. There, also needs to be a reason to make you role play your character outside your safe zone. I see the sexual orientations and race gates (I hate that word we really need to change that) as a way to help push people to play as a character that they would not normally play. I see it as adding a great amount of replay-ability to DAI that DAO and DA2 did not have.

If I can give this comment more likes, I would. For once, the straight women come out on top so that's not something I can be disappointed about. It means much more to me that major characters like Dorian and Sera exist and will hopefully continue to exist in future DA installments rather than worrying about options available to me. It's interesting how 3 years ago, we were told that there will never be exclusively gay companions. Now, here we are with two ground-breaking characters that I'm absolutely ecstatic to meet and interact with.

Debating the sexual preferences of fictional characters like they're actual people just weirds me out a lot, I guess. If this is meant to be the thread where people come to discuss Dorian as a character, his friendship arc, his romance, his role in the story, etc, does it really need back-and-forth arguing about the details of sex? I think that might scare away the majority of people who might be interested in Dorian in DA:I but aren't planning on romancing him.

That guy who analysed Tali's sweat was (correctly) said to be pretty damn creepy, for me there's something unsettling about earnestly discussing what Dorian would want to do in bed. Nobody finds that a bit too involved?

(Never mind that a bunch of the discussion is wrapped up in stupid stereotypes.)

Lol comparing people having a cheeky discussion about characters sexual preferences to some guy talking about Tali's sweat is a bit much, Elite. I'm like you - it does make me a uncomfortable mainly because I feel like it's a personal thing for that character that can feel intrusive on their own person and somewhat exploitative but... I mean, it's something that a lot of people enjoy having fun with. It's all entirely harmless and I am okay to be like, "eeehhhh guys" and leave them to it because it moves on pretty quickly. If it makes people uncomfortable and they can't come in here and confront it or change the topic then that's is a bit sad but nothing we can do.

giphy.gif

Fans get like this and it's never gotten past PG13 level (not counting those three incredibly NSFW pics... those were over the line imo) with the discussions. People can deal with it and steer the discussion elsewhere, like they always do, anyway. It's practically a staple of fandoms to have the cheeky sexy discussions here and there.

Seriously, most other threads do this, too. I am not as petty (as some people and it's a big issue with me) as to name them and shame them and b****, but I have seen quite a few discussing at length and in detail how that character would bang their PC. It still makes me a bit squirmy and I have also steered the discussion elsewhere in those threads. If people can't deal with confronting a bit of cheeky talk then I am sorry for them.

The usual commenters on here are incredibly laid back and welcoming, and we have never become an exclusive club or anything so I have NO issues with this at all. Just get all y'all cheeky buggers back on PG track, thank yews.

Dorian has a huge leather-backed chair in Skyhold where he hangs out:

Is that the chair in that screenshot? I want a chair like that for my Inquisitor. Is he classy like Fenris with his Aggregio? Perhaps not the smashing the bottles and becoming an alcoholic part.

It seems more like Leliana... or they use stock paintings. If this is his quarters then ahhh I love it LOOK AT THAT BED IT'S SO GORGEOUS. IT'S LIKE A CHAISE.

Do ya'll think Dorian reads a lot? Cuz it's really not fair to the other characters if he keeps compounding all the awesome into his person.

EDIT: Btw is it "creepy" to discuss Dorian like he's a person or is it just the sex part that's creepy? He's fictional either way and currently we don't know much about his role in the story so we're left either cogitating on what might be, extrapolating on his personality based on what we know and yes that will spill over into other fields but I don't really find that "creepy." And drawing the line at sex [if you don't find the idea of imbuing fictional being with a hint of life inherently creepy that is] just seems prudish to me. Excessiveness is one thing, and going off topic WHEN WE KNOW MORE is also one thing, but currently it doesn't seem all that misplaced.

I'm uncomfortable with the intensity that people seem to approach the character, and the fixation on fantasies about fictional relationships between two people in a videogame. There's a difference between talking about their role in the story, and going beyond that to imagine elaborate and explicit details about their sex life. It has the potential to look a bit obsessive. To be honest, it's kind of embarrassing, and I have no idea how I'd react to this if I were a Bioware writer.

I know this sort of waifu/husubando thing is really common for many Bioware fans, but at the same time I don't think it helps shake perceptions of this fanbase as being over-invested in the romances, and especially imagining the sexual side of the romances. I don't think that makes me prudish, I just don't understand some of the hard-core fans that hang out on the BSN.

Finally, I think it'd be really off-putting for someone who wanted to discuss Dorian as a character (or the Venatori storyline, or Tevinter) if they opened this thread and saw that for a page or so it was an echo chamber about anal sex.

I think we just haven't had anything new to discuss in quite a while, so it's mostly fan art and some joking. The raunchier comments happen in most character threads (I go to most) but they're a lot more active these days so it moves on fast. And then happens again. Rinse and repeat.

Anyway.

Allan's subjective description of Dorian in the pinned Romance thread pushed a lot of my buttons: charming, witty, intelligent and intriguing.

Look, Elite. I completely agree with how you feel. It makes me uncomfortable but I deal with it because that is the nature of fandom to get a bit cheeky. Some people have fun discussing characters sexual preferences or perving on them with others. Hello TUMBLR. I'm sure the BW writers find it uncomfortable too, but they see it a lot. I remember Thane fans tweeting Keythe Farley a picture of a naked Thane with chocolate all over him or something and they found it hysterical. I thought it went over a line but no one was hurt and he never responded... plus he still is in contact with Thane fans so I don't think much harm was done.

This is in no way specific to BSN. At all. It's the nature of fandom and yes, like you, I get squirmish but I accept that, that is how it is. Just bloody say something if you think it's going in a territory that you find off-putting (as I know you do) and ask people to steer it to a less uncomfortable place. They do most of the time, lol.

The way you've worded this argument, however, comes off as insulting to fellow people in the thread. I have bolded specific comments that come off as especially hurtful. I get that you are a blunt person, but please re-think some of these.

Again, this is a facet of fandom. It's always going to be here and it will come up from time to time and it is one's prerogative. Now, if it gets into fanart of IB/Dorian penis? I do draw that line and say that stuff should stay on 18+ tumblr. That's happened like twice, so.

Hmm, from all my lurking in threads the Dorian forum is pretty tame compared to others even when sex is brought up....

Pretty much. Like I said above, I see some lengthy discussions in spoiler tags about how they think a character will bang their PC or how their peen looks. Some people find it funny to share with others and we are all mature people here and we all have the right to say if it's going past a point which makes someone uncomfortable. Usually, people respect that and take it elsewhere. If we aren't, THEY HAVE SOME 'SPLAININ TO DOOOOOOO~

Personally if I had to chose between the cheeky sex talk here and the constant cycling of "She's so ugly/manly, I hate that straight guys don't have better options" that seems to be happening every time I peek into the Cassandra thread, I'd rather have the former.

The bulk of your objection seems to stem from fear/concern of external observation/judgement which is not something I can get behind at all. Who cares how other people see Bioware fans? What internet strangers think of your chosen fandom has absolutely NO impact on your life whatsoever, unless of course you allow it to impact you. Objectively there's nothing wrong with coming across as being a 'bit obsessive' it's other people who are uncomfortable with the fact, as long as the individual hasn't created an effigy of Dorian in their cupboard which they pray to every night and now call their SO Dorian [yah know, actual measurable unhealthy pathology & obsession] the problem of societal judgement is just one of close-mindedness.

You might kiiiiiinda have a point with the last one but you're being hyperbolic, there is substance if you shovel some of the smut out of the way and people certainly seem willing to contribute to more 'meaningful' discussion about the character when these points are actually raised. Again, if you're gonna let some talk about positioning chase you out of a thread without even trying to communicate that's your problem.

It's great for everybody who likes straight romances. Not all of us identify ourselves with the protagonist, especially with the advent of voiced protagonists in this game.

So no. The romances aren't just for ''gal gamers'', thank you very much.

That was likely my flailing.  I haven't played with him much (phrasing...) but in the early going of having him in my group he appears to be a good mix of charming, witty, intelligent, and intriguing.

Yessums, I agree. I swear like once every few days you get this random who goes, "UMG X IS UGLY WTF BIOWARE NO HOT GIRLS/GUYS FOR MY PC" and it's gotten to the point where everyone just rolls their eyes and goes on with the discussion.

I think we do get a few, "Dorian looks like a flaming gay man" every now and then. Which I disagree with. It's a shame.

And I vehemently disagree too. It makes me wonder if people initially perceived Anders to be gay when they met him in Awakening since him and Dorian seem pretty similar in terms of looks and personality. From all the footage we've seen so far, nothing suggests that Dorian is going to be a screaming stereotype. It's like people are very adamant to portray him as such despite the lack of evidence and it vexes me to no end.

Guys, I have a general game news question: I know we'll have 3 different tones again but has it been confirmed that the dialogue options will pile up into a personality again? I think that added replayability - it was interesting to approach situations and characters with different tones.

My first Inquisitor will probably be a clever (the new sarcastic) rogue elf. Hopefully Dorian will be into that xD

But yes, I forsee my bromance with Dorian going well.

A deeply pro-freedom, pro-mage reformer. I see my Inquisitor and Dorian getting along splendidly.

I wonder if he's a worshiper of the Black Divine or irreligious.

Because if they weren't so damn evil, I'd be all about the Tevinter Chantry.

I remember a post ages ago by David that said they weren't doing a persistent personality this time.
