I would go with the human rogue too.

I like the idea that a human from a noble background (especially a Trevelyan) will have some inkling of what it means to be pressured into things by their family. Also archers are cool.

THIS! This is a big part of the reason I'll be doing a human rogue not too long after my human mage. I think it'll be a nice connection and understanding between the two of them on that front.

(But for my mage, I'm headcanoning something a little different. Doubt there'll be any lines in game to play it this way, but I think it would be interesting to have a mage that, before their magic manifested, actually agreed with their family. Maybe even wanted to be a templar before they ended up in the Circle and saw how some abused their power.)

2 things I'd love to see from Dorian:

-either belief in the Imperial Chantry (or at least he could give us more info on their practices)

-speaking Tevene, cause I really like the way that the language sounds

Well, both sides venerate Andraste and the Maker. It's just that the Imperials don't think she was divine, just a mere prophet.

Huh, I didn't know that...

Might bring Dorian into some conflict with devout Andrastrians from the south then, I guess.

I never heard of that, but, of course, the Chantry doesn't believe Andraste is divine either and talk about how "excessive" Andraste worship is wrong.

Like Catholicism and the Virgin Mary.

But I agree with the Black Divine on some things.

Magic is a gift from the Maker.

I am curious whether we'll meet someone else from the Pavus family. I kind of doubt it, but I really wish we could meet someone like that actually.

The E3 demo implied that we'll also find out Dorian is hardly alone in his views.

Alexius appears to have been his lover.

Alexius appears to have been his lover.

The devs have talked about him more as a mentor or idol, I think.

As for meeting other Pavuses, I guess it depends on whether we really do go to Tevinter.

I do think human non-mage and Dorian might get each other in a way other backgrounds won't.

Though I go back and forth on where Dorian should be on my priority list.

The Imperial Chantry is far more focused on Hessarian then Andraste tho. It's why men can be priests, etc.

My original plan was to romance Dorian with an elf rogue but I'm seriously debating on romancing him with a qunari. Class not decided but seeing as D-dog has an interesting relationship with IB, then what would a romance between a Tevinter mage and a Tal-Vashoth be like?! Or maybe Dorian's opinions on qunari are completely different to his countrymen.

WEH, I'm so indecisive. If I can't decide I'll just go with a human but I always prefer to play non-humans. :/

I dunno, the Cult of Kolgrim in Haven is a descendant of the original Andrastrians and they had male priests too.

I think it's very likely the White Divine just came up with some very bizarre rules no one else did.

The earliest split in Christianity was between the followers of Peter and the followers of Paul.

Kolgrim and company are like the disciples of Mathew.

Mage can just as easily. He's still a failure in their families eyes, something they'd rather forget, hide and bury very deep.

I'd say mage is even better, mundane person can agree or disagree with their family, but still. Not even close.

I'm actually mulling qunari now too--I just used one of the phrases the survey leak used to describe Dorian for my qunari warrior. Said warrior was originally conceived as a Josephine-romancing *woman* so I'm going to have to think about this. I'm not really feeling Trevelyan. I can come up with characters, but I'm just kind of meh about actually playing them.

I was going to go Human for my first playthrough with Dorian, but I think it will be an elf now....I blame Ymirr and his gorgeous art lol

How fun is it that we have 8 LI's and 8 permutations of race & gender  :)

Um, according to WoT:

"While the Chantry of Orlais believes that Andraste was divine, and was taken up to stand beside the Maker when she died, the Imperial Chantry maintains she was just a mortal prophet with considerable magical talent, even if she is a symbol of hope. While the Imperial Chantry still respects and honors Andraste considerably, they forbid the worship of her that is practiced in the Orlesian Chantry and instead focus only on worshiping the Maker."

Yep. Tevinter is making much more sense here.

One thing I wish was clearer in about the Imperials is the men becoming priests thing. Does that mean women aren't allowed to become a part of the Imperial Chantry, or does it mean that both sexes are allowed to become priests? I think it's the latter, but I'm very unsure.

I think the implication is old structures got preserved so I wonder if it's because Dumat worshipers had priests.

I really do like the Andraste as a mage theory. In fact, I think she was probably Somniari to boot.

I think it is said that most Divines have been and most clergy is men, but not all of them.

Hopefully this is one of the topics we can bring up with Dorian when we talk to him at Skyhold.  Tevinter is a fascinating place and it will be nice to have first hand knowledge from someone a bit less biased that Fenris... I mean I trust Fenris and all, and I appreciate what he told us about Seheron and the Qunari, but outside of that, he was far too focused on the mageocracy.  I want to hear about other aspects of Tevinter culture for a change...
