I don't think he ever hid his sexuality, but I think his "I want to fix Tevinter" mindset is tied to what happened with the Venatori.

Going by the enemies trailer Dorian has some degree of knowledge regarding the Venatori.  I hope he does and is involvement with plot is intresting and personal. Dorian can wear as much or as little clothing and robes as he wants to.

he has to be plot central...Otherwise I'm really disappointed of Bioware. : ( We don't get Blackall and Solas, so I hope Dorian will be really great instead.

Well, if it's any comfort there are a lot of women who are super jealous of you.

But Cass and Dorian both seem heavily tied to the main plot.

I really hope you're right. I'm quite sure about Cass...but after all, Dorian is just a gay character, he's not available to the ladies as well. I don't know if Bioware will make him plot central. Of course I hope though.

PS: don't get me wrong. I think he's great. ^^

Well I don't think they're giving us a character with a major knowledge of an enemy faction just for their health.

David writing for him has me really hoping for a great bromance. I'm sure were all thinking of that chair, its even bigger deal than pokemon letting you sit on benches. I really hope he got good chemistry with my Dalish mage.

The Venatori seem like a pretty major enemy faction. If he's not one of the central companions, I still see him being one of the ones you have to recruit.

I don't know. There seem to be so many factions this time. But I hope you're right. I hope he's no sidekick character who don't need to be recruited.

I doubt he's unimportant. He has knowledge of the Venatori and their worship of the Elder One (big bad). There's also the overarching storyline with the mage/templar war that could possibly involve him and our other mage companions. Even if he wasn't integral to the central plot (again, doubtful), it shouldn't have to diminish his worth as a character. He can still be great and popular without plot armor.

I don't know about recruitment, but since every companion except one can leave or be fired, I'd say that they are all pretty equal in terms of importance to the story... except for that "one," whoever they may be.

Well I think Dorian is awesome, with or without plot armor and even with or without romance.

The "one" is probably Cassandra, who appears to be part of the very beginning of the Inquisition, or Solas, who seems to know a lot about the Fade in a Fade-centric game.

Guilty.

Let the political mutilations begin.

"I'm here to set things right. Also? To look dashing. That part's less difficult."

Wasn't Cole mentioned as being optional? That said its likely he will never leave party. Dorian would disapprove if someone gave him a razor. Lets be thankful Dorian is much cleaner than the last companion who was known for his facial hair. Oghren food shouldn't be in your beard.

They have said repeatedly that we can dismiss companions as we see fit. That being said, I believe Cass is the one and only exception.

If I had to class them, I'd say IB, Varric, Cole, and Sera are the "sidekicks." But really the most important thing is whether you like the character.

Now that you've said that, the Elder One is probably going to end up being the reincarnation of Koslun in the body of a young mage, coming by to rain destruction on the world because no one attended his Merchant Guild meetings about the plight of the elves.

I'm planning out playthroughs to keep sane ... or maybe it's driving me insane ... I'm not sure anymore.

Currently I'm thinking out a male qunari romancing Dorian and carting around Team Blow Up Everything - Vivienne, Solas and Dorian. Should he (the qunari) also be a mage for an all-mage party playthrough? Or should he be a warrior? As a warrior he could both tank stuff for me, and be all "Are you scared of me little mage?" "I could burn you to cinders." "You could try." d:

Just, looking for input. I've already planned to romance Dorian with an elven rogue and a human warrior.

This kind of question makes me wonder how in-depth the conversations are going to be and just how much of an effect our backgrounds will have on them... I mean, an unbound qunari mage sounds like he'd have so many things to talk about with a Tevinter mage it's not even funny.  But will the game address this?  Only time will tell.  I suggest qunari mage, since there is so much potential for both racial and class conversations.  It sounds like too good of an opportunity to pass up, especially if you are already going to romance him with a human warrior.

Thank you for helping me decide! (: Knight Enchanter he shall be.

I am doubtful the game will address it, but hopeful, and am satisfied to headcanon and interpret things how I will if necessary. d:

Well, if it's any comfort there are a lot of women who are super jealous of you.

And men who prefer to play female characters.... I prefer NPCs to have defined orientations, but it was less than pleasant to see a character I can relate to so much for reasons unrelated to romance be restricted to the only kind of romance I feel uncomfortable to play.

Well, I hope he's great as a "mere" friend. My qunari mage and he will certainly not run out of things to talk about any time soon, and he'll probably be in my parties more often than most others, so yeah, I, too, hope for plot relevance.

I don't prefer to play male usually. I am with DA:I on first playthrough.
