Haven't they said the levels for demos and things are pretty messed up just to show the parts they want to?

Yep.

I don't think we'll be confronting Alexius at level 4, for example.

You know, I was thinking that we'd meet Dorian during our first encounter with the Venetori, but that would depend on just how involved they are in the early events of the game.  If this faction is part of the reason why Dorian left Tevinter in the first place, then he might show up at our base asking for help with them or to warn us of their impending plans.  On the other hand, we might meet the Venetori first and he might be in some kind of conflict with them during that initial encounter... which leads to us working together and him joining the team.  Those are my best guesses, at least... he has to be related to them in some way, however.  I just don't know when, how, or why...

That is hilarious. xD I'm so jealous of your dream game-time. And all I can think of is the Wardens in The Calling saying "All dreams mean something." And Maric rolling his eyes.

I've actually been addicted to mind-numbing games to the point of having Bejeweled-like dreams in the past @_@ ... yours sounds much more entertaining.

But be still, my darling! Dorian yet awaits your manquisitor. (;

Yeah I don't get many game dreams. The female human PC was frustrating!!! I will be making a damn man-quisitor and IT WILL BE...

ROFL... that's one heck of a dream!  Were you sipping on sizzurp before you went to bed or what?

No! I was reading a book entirely unrelated to DA:I. Idek. I don't dream about games a lot but if I play a game a lot my mind get stuck in the mechanics of it which confuses real life a bit. I think everyone gets that.

Wait, they didn't say that every companion is missable, though... did they? He looks like he walks straight up to your door or something from that. Or maybe investigating the Venatori is a side quest???

No, I'm pretty sure we have mandatory companions. I just thought Dorian isn't going to be one of the easily missable ones seeing as his knowledge of the Venatori appears to be connected to one of the major story-related quests.

Haven't they said the levels for demos and things are pretty messed up just to show the parts they want to?

If they did, then my mistake. IIRC, they pulled this up at no specific point in the combat video. I'm thinking the level 4 is not necessarily during the battle with Alexius, but shortly after Dorian's introduction (which occurs earlier in the game?).

The Venatori are one of the major factions along with the Red Templars and demons, so I expect we'd have to run into them very early if the MP campaign is going to make sense story-wise.

Remember in the latest trailer that Dorian seems to be the first character who tells us about The Elder One - he says the Venatori are in service to him/it. I don't think they'd leave that reveal too far into the game.

Don't worry, I trust you.  :police:  But yeah, I've had crazy video game dreams too, some fun, some annoying.  Civilization dreams are mainly annoying.  All night working on cities and fighting wars... and then you wake up and realize that you actually made no progress in the game and have to do all that over IRL.  <_<

Speaking of building things, I hope they release the spell trees soon.  I'm not sure what element(s) I want Dorian to use, and of course there is his spec to consider... All I know for sure is that I plan to use him offensively.  Anybody have other ideas in mind?  Support mage perhaps?  Info is kind of limited but still, it's something to consider.  I've already decided on the weapon styles for non-mage other chars...

That's an excellent point.  I hadn't considered MP, but you are right, that seems to indicate we will encounter them early in the game.  Solas is almost guaranteed to show up early since he's the team's Fade guru... and since Vivienne is supposed to invite us to a dinner party, I get the feeling she's actually the third mage we meet, in spite of appearing in so many demos.

I don't know if he'll be mandatory, but it seems like he's pretty early on and giving info about it all quite freely. Perhaps he asks to join you and you can reject or you have to ask him.

Possibly. So far we know for sure we can reject Cole, and Bull was heavily hinted as such.
I'm pretty sure that other then Cass, Varric and Solas will be forced at first.

I suspect we'll have a good bit of freedom about when Dorian shows up, sort of like Wynne, Oghren, or the DA2 cast.

We usually have less freedom when its the first rogue, warrior and Mage. They do that so you get a complete party asap. For example Anders, Aveline and Varric don't give much space, they have to be recruited fast. Others can be delayed for quite a while and recruited in any order.

I think it'll be the same her with Cass (obviously), Varric and Solas.

Call this wishful thinking, but I feel like (and hope) Dorian would be one of those characters you'd have to recruit before you progress any further into the game...

You mean like Anders and Merrill rather than Fenris and Isabela?  I'm pretty sure that they said it's very difficult to miss characters this time, so it should be obvious when we can recruit him... it may even be like Mass Effect 2, where we have recruitment missions, but that's just a wild guess.

I prefer a loose structure once we can build a balanced party. Sometimes I'll want Cole first, sometimes Blackwall, sometimes Dorian.

I can't wait to face everything with a level 30 Inquisitor :P

I love the fact that there is no level-scaling <3

I haven't played Mass Effect that far yet (I know, I'm one of them), so I'm only guessing just how that would work. But yeah, I kind of hope gathering companions up is intertwined into the story itself and that Dorian shows up soon- granted, not so early on, but whatever feels natural and paced out.

Yes, it's basically the way you describe it.  Either way, my guess is that he's the second mage we meet... I don't think he'll be in some remote location that you can only access after hours of fighting...  *cough*Oghren*cough*  If you've played ME1, then maybe it's more like the initial recruitment drive on the Citadel that happens as the main plot unfolds.  You wind up meeting (or being able to meet) all but one potential team member before you even become... uh... you did play this right?  Well, just in case:

Spoiler

How anyone can think to do such a thing is beyond my comprehension. He doesn't even have to use his Tevinter charms of persuasion or good looks. When he asks to join, you automatically say yes.

Prejudice against mages maybe?  I dunno... he seems to be the least suspicious party member by my estimation.  I'd probably need to go out of my way to come up with a character who wouldn't want to recruit him.

So, you know how in DA2, when you romanced one of the LIs, they got a little token that they wore throughout the game? Do you guys think that will be making a comeback? If so, what sort of token do you think we'll be able to give Dorian?

(Or even better, they give us one! Like a ring or necklace we can equip! I'd wear it, even if it's stats weren't the best!)

I'd love for him to maybe give us something important to him. Maybe a ring or some kind of earring (I loved when Zev gave us his earring). And maybe we can give him a special Inquisition necklace, or something that is added to his robes, to show that he's ours.

A ring would be awesome. One of the things I liked about Skyrim was having your character and his or her spouse equip their matrimony rings. You get this constant reminder of your marriage, regardless of the distance between you two. Of course, it won't be marriage for Dorian and the Inquisitor, but I think it's a great way to show the closeness and love that they have for each other.

Another thing I wouldn't mind coming back is wearing an article of clothing with your or your LI's family crest on it. As an example, Dorian can give the Inquisitor a Pavus family heirloom (if he still cares about that part of his life) and, if the inquisitor is Trevelyan, he can exchange Trevelyan heirlooms with Dorian.

There's always those one or two weirdos who pop up in the forums and spout on about how they killed X party member every playthrough for some reason or another. I remember that some people HATED Zevran. Then there was that guy who thought Zev genuinely wanted to give him a plain massage. Ugh.

All I'm saying is, prepare yourselves for a bit of that. Don't get too upset, just shake your head. Some people are frickin' stupid.

Oh yeah I've got Grim Fandango, NWN2 and Zoo Tycoon to play before then!

I vote for couples clothing:
