Dance lighting dance, I do like the idea of schools of magic pertaining to the character that wield them. Dorian does seem the most spontaneous out of all the mages so lighting does make sense for him. Hoping for a mustache party buff.

Nice!

This. This is the only valid reply to such a question!

I had to pop back in to get caught up on all the glorious Dorian fan art! ![]()
I always love it when I haven't been in a thread for a while and come back to a bunch of art. Nice work, ladies and gents!
he might have gotten along with act 1 anders.... but he clearly would have beat the crap out of act 3 anders.... (as any sane individual would do)
So Dorian is really into the idea of mage freedom then? I heard him compared to Anders earlier today but didn't think twice about it until just now... I was kind of assuming he was more interested in changing Tevinter than the rest of Thedas, but I'm not so sure now... It would make sense for there to be at least one mage companion who favored freedom since Vivienne is pro-Circle, but I thought that would be limited to Solas. Dorian seemed like he could have been a neutral party since he's not really from this part of the continent, but I guess it would also make sense if both he and Solas were anti-Circle...

Why would a mage who has been free his entire life embrace a system in which he would be locked up? I don't get the idea that he's against mages having power, but rather with specific abuses of power that have become compulsory among the magisters in Tevinter.

No, I didn't think he'd embrace it, I thought he'd be neutral since he's not really from this part of the world...
No, you're right. He seems more interested in focusing his efforts to reform Tevinter (how he plans to succeed, we know not) rather than concerning himself with mage rights, as far as I know. I was just noting some comparisons between them, namely their desire to improve society and ruminating on theoretical scenarios that will unfortunately never happen.
I wish I could remember where I saw this, but earlier today somebody said that he was the DA:I version of Anders... hm... I guess that person was just speculating. I thought I had missed some info...
edit: Ah, here it is... http://forum.bioware...2#entry17371715
And this was the quote...
"Dorian seems to be a nice guy. As a tevinter mage he wants to free mages from the oppresion of the chantry. He seems to be the Anders of Inquisition but not so emotionally emo and obsessed with the problem."
It's probably speculation...

Maybe that person meant Awakening Anders? I can certainly relate Dorian to DAA Anders, fun, easy-going but eager to help and focus on task at hand.
Well, they did call Anders "emo," and "obsessed," so they probably meant the DA2 version (uh... I don't think that btw... I'm just quoting that person)...
Anyway, this all makes me wonder just what Dorian's politics will be and what his plans are now that he's out of Tevinter. He can't really change anything unless he goes back, but... I kind of figured he'd be sticking around long term. I wonder how his storyline will go...
Tbh I'm kind of hoping he's fairly neutral on certain issues concerning southern Thedas so that most of my Inquisitors will get along with him. I realize that's probably wishful thinking, but still... he seems a lot nicer than Vivienne and I have no idea what to expect from Solas, so I'm hoping there aren't too many political obstacles to overcome. If there are, I'm sure that at least a few of the Inquisitors I've come up with will get along with him... I tend to roleplay a wide range of characters, after all.

That's why I'm excited for Dorian's story arc. It may or may not have the potential to affect storylines tied to Tevinter in future DA installments (and we know there will be more DA titles post Inquisition).
Yes, I'm looking forward to picking his brain and learning all I can about Tevinter, and finding out what his specific objections to the culture are and how he plans to change things... if we ever have a game set in Tevinter, I'm willing to bet that whatever happens in Dorian's story arc is reflected in that game. He might even be a returning character, since Bioware loves to incorporate those in DA... but maybe I'm getting ahead of myself. xD Let's see what happens in DA:I before thinking about future cameos...
