Necromancer. If Solas is a rift mage then Dorian has to be the necromancer, unless  that is Vivienne's big secret.

Aside from Dorian being the student of a necromancer, David heavily implies it in Dorian's character interview.

"He comes from a society where mages are trained to use it rather than hide it. This includes powerful elemental spells, as well as spells involving the control of spirit and the dead—things societies outside of Tevinter might turn up their noses at and claim 'distasteful.'"

Yep, Dorian is a necromancer. 

 

(Though not, supposedly, one that stays too far into "evil" territory. He was pretty shocked by Alexius actually raising Felix from the dead, Quentin-style.)

 

Broadly "necromancers" deal with spirits and the dead, which the southern countries might find icky or dangerous, but it doesn't necessarily imply that it's evil or twisted magic.

Dorian will probably be our designated summoner. As long as he can freeze enemies and cast barrier, we're good. But I expect to be using him a good bit for story reasons.

Liking Solas in the cape but that aside. I'm really curious about Dorian's stance on matters given his own experiences with his homeland. I'm also sure I'll enjoy him  without his shirt on, and his sarcasm. Both Dorian and Bull are not typical  examples of their people. Both of them will undoubtly have to some extent deal with prejudice and how they choose to handle should be interesting.
