No way. I don't think they'd Zevran us again.

I'm still resolutely convinced that he will be one of our earliest and, at the very least, most difficult-to-ignore companions. His role in the story seems far too substantial to be easily brushed aside. I'm not entirely sure why we're doubting him now, but I tell myself that we only have a month and a few days left until we can unravel (or rather, ravish) him to our hearts' content. Stay strong guys.

I think all this speculation is just making us antsy (and on my end, rather irritable, because I'll probably end up thinking the worst if this doesn't stop). But here's what we got so far...

  • Dorian's relationship with the Inquisitor (in particular, his romance with the Inquisitor, I guess) is perhaps the most "powerful" in the game, as stated by one of the developers... forgotten who. Whether they mean that literally or not remains to be seen.

It was Patrick Weekes. Though I admit, DG's recent comments had me thinking that we're going to be cruelly subject to emotional torture at some point while exploring Dorian's romance arc. He's his writer after all.

I vaguely remember one of the developers saying somewhere that they wanted to make sure that it was going to be pretty hard to miss the recruitment of any of the companions/pretty obvious when a mission would result in a companion.

Wait wait. Recent comments? Like, on Twitter? I rarely check my twitter account, so what exactly did David Gaider say?

It's uber vague and open to a lot of interpretation but the only 'recent' one I can think of that might indicate that David is wringing his hands together waiting to sup on fan tears is this one.

Okay, after seeing Dorian in all that gold I now want to see Dorian as the Persian King from the 300.

Nothing specific about Dorian's romance (or Cassandra's). More like merciless teasing.

So basically, prepare for the worst or be thoroughly surprised by any semblance of happiness.

I didn't take those tweets to be "warning: drama ahead" but just about how detailed some people's romance plans are and how they will inevitably not match the game content. Me, my plan for the Dorian romance is let's get ready to be blasted by his Dorian-ness while hoping for fun interactions. Seems realistic xD

I didn't know people were going down the rabbit hole. I need to start going to more threads.

I'm guessing it will be easy to figure out... I mean, we know the name of the primary faction that he's opposed to.  We'll likely encounter him on one of the first missions involving the Venatori.  That's my guess anyway...

Yep.

Thing is, the Venatori themselves might be something that comes up in the middle of the main story arc.

The only thing I can think of that indicates we get him earlier is a quote from the trailer, where Dorian mentions the Elder One. From the dialogue, it sounds like neither he nor the Inquisitor knows who/what the Elder One is, and I reckon that's pretty early in the story where they're still setting up all of the villains and major plots.

From memory I think he was referring to the Solas thread at that point.

I take it that some of these guys are just indulging in wishful thinking- I know the artists I follow tend to hope for one thing or another. But it's pretty much a given never to expect anything. I mean, look where we went with the romance options when they were being unveiled. Off the mark!

So, I really don't know what to expect from Dorian, other than the fact that he's... well, something.

My hope in regard to all recruitments is that as soon as we finish the first "main" quest to protect the Sister or whatever the Advisors simply give us information having to do with possible people that will join our ranks. From there we go and do the quest for the main people we want accordingly because I can tell you right now, I am gonna take my sweet time with this game and considering how massive the maps are it might take me 10 hours just to completely reveal the map of the first area.

The only companion I can see this being an issue with is Vivienne since I assume we get the invitation to the ball after we have everyone or when the Inquisition itself is more known to the people of Thedas.

Yeeeah, I'm really afraid that's going to end badly. But I'd honestly rather that relationship failed than have the first gay only romance end tragically.

David's tweet wasn't about sad endings though, I don't think we should take that at all from what he said...

To me, it was more bemusement at how much fans are willing to assume about a romance arc, to the point of thinking something is cliched even though they know absolutely nothing about it.

Not "I laugh" as in "here comes the fan tears", but more like "these people have thoroughly convinced themselves of something that just won't turn out to be true".

That's true, it could just be that the relationship will be very rocky. It wouldn't surprise me. Especially with Solas being somewhat Anti social.

That's the reason why I think we will meet Dorian relatively early. The main antagonist won't be introduced too late in the story, and Dorian seems to be the one to do that for us. Also why we will probably meet him during a part of the main plot.

I vaguely remember one of the developers saying somewhere that they wanted to make sure that it was going to be pretty hard to miss the recruitment of any of the companions/pretty obvious when a mission would result in a companion.

Yeah, Fenris was pretty bad in DA2. His recruitment quest was disguised as a minor sidequest and could easily be rejected for RP reason.

Isabela was also easy to miss if you did Anders' mission last in the first Act, and recruiting her last was problematic in terms of getting enough approval for the end of Act 2.

Honestly I'm not sure when the game will let us get Dorian now  . Between the youtube gameplay and Twitch vids it could be at anytime really . In the youtube vids when/if they went to the "Pick your Party" screen they had only Solas , Varric , and Cass available . However in the recent PC twitch stream they went for the same mission but had Sera and IB with them too and I pictured getting them almost last . Next to Viv who apparently only throws a party for us once we make a name for ourselves lol . So its all up in the air I guess ! Geez I'm glad I got the game guide so I can go for Dorian ASAP after the Prologue :)

I think it'll be like this. After Cass, Solus and Varric

1)Iron bull

2)Dorian

3)Cole

4)Sera

5)Vivienne

I almost expect Vivienne to be a last recruit but between Iron bull and Dorian those two will most likely be our two first recruits after the original 3.

Something has been bugging me since...I think it was the Enemy of Thedas trailer...everyone assumes that Solas is somehow instrumental in teaching the Inquisitor how to use his newfound ability, because of the scene where he grabs the Quizzy's hand and thrusts it towards the breach.  From what I saw, that was less like he was showing him what to do, and more like the Inquisitor appeared dazed or exhausted, and Solas doing it *for* him more than showing him what to do.  I realize that Solas is our fade expert, but I don't know how that would give him some special knowledge about how to use an ability that is - at least to my knowledge - unheard of before the calamity at Haven.

I know this is the Dorian thread, but I assure you this is relevant in that 1) I can't imagine that anyone is more important than Dorian in the story, and 2) I don't feel safe on any other threads when it comes to avoiding spoilers lol   (But, mostly 1)

I think Dorian will be important. Not as much as Blackwall, but intimately tied to a major enemy faction.
